12500, 00000, "TNS:listener failed to start a dedicated server process"
// *Cause: The process of starting up a dedicated server process failed.
// The executable could not be found or the environment may be set up
// incorrectly.
// *Action: Turn on tracing at the ADMIN level and reexecute the operation.
// Verify that the ORACLE Server executable is present and has execute
// permissions enabled. Ensure that the ORACLE environment is specified
// correctly in LISTENER.ORA. The Oracle Protocol Adapter that is being
// called may not be installed on the local hard drive. Please check that
// the correct Protocol Adapter are successfully linked.
// If error persists, contact Oracle Customer Support.The listener only starts a dedicated server process when servicing a client request. So I fail to see how your SQL ("with simple inner joins") will somehow reconnect to the listener. Unless you are use loopback database links?
Also, do not confuse symptoms as all relating to the same problem.
Exactly what are the sequence of events that results in the error? What client are you using? How does it connect (TCP or IPC)? If TCP, does it use a dedicated or shared server? Are there any related errors in the alert log? Is there a trace file created for your session? What is the exact o/s and Oracle versions you are using?

I run out of memory when trying to run a query
I need help with a query. I am trying to extract Total Qty Sold ( and eventually get this data by month), but when I would run the query asking for QTY I get "System Out Of Memory". I removed that party of the query asking for Qty and posted what I came up with below. Any Help is greatly appreciated.
SELECT T0.[ItemCode], T0.[ItemName], T1.[FirmName], T0.[CardCode], T0.[SuppCatNum], T2.[ItmsGrpNam], T0.[U_U_CMG_PROGRAM], T0.[U_U_CMG_CATEG], T0.[U_CMG_STATUS], T0.[U_CMG_STORES], T0.[U_CMG_COLOR], T0.[U_CMG_LOCAT], T0.[MinLevel], T0.[MinOrdrQty]
FROM OITM T0 INNER JOIN OMRC T1 ON T0.FirmCode = T1.FirmCode INNER JOIN OITB T2 ON T0.ItmsGrpCod = T2.ItmsGrpCodHi,
Welcome you post on the forum.
Try this fist:
SELECT T0.ItemCode, T0.ItemName, T1.FirmName, T0.CardCode, T0.SuppCatNum, T2.ItmsGrpNam, T0.MinLevel, T0.MinOrdrQty
FROM OITM T0
INNER JOIN OMRC T1 ON T0.FirmCode = T1.FirmCode
INNER JOIN OITB T2 ON T0.ItmsGrpCod = T2.ItmsGrpCod
WHERE T0.ItemCode Like '[%0\]%'

Oracle service wont stop properly via net stop
Hi all,
A bit of advice required please!
We have 2 Oracle instances running on the same server, and every night the services are meant to shut down via a scheduled task from a batch file using net stop.
Most of the time, one of the services fails to stop. The command line says oracle service could not be stopped. Sometimes, this seems to crash the service, ie: it appears started but doesn't work and needs re starting.
To combat this, i am in early every morning to restart the services before people arrive! if someone could point me in the right direction as to what co6uld be causing this i would be gratefull!
Thanks in advance.
Edited by: user10873866 on 30-Jan-2009 00:06Well, for me the best way seems to contact with third party who installed everything and ask for their help.
If You don't have knowledge regarding what is running and how it's running, then probably don't touch it.
And by the way explanation for net stop failure could be this:
When you do a "net stop" windows tries to stop the service. The default behaviour is to shutdown the related instance in immediate mode. But, there's a timeout defined by the ORA_SID_SHUTDOWN_TIMEOUT registry value. Till 9i it was 30 seconds. On 10g it's 90sec default. This means that when Windows tries to shutdown the service, in mode immediate, if in 30/90sec the instance isn't stopped it'll be shutdown abort.
And fo rproduction database shutdown abort is probably not the best what You can perform each night.
In alert.log You could see what exactly happens during net stop. alert.log is under bdump directory, if You can do sqlplus "/as sysdba" to the database and execute
show parameter background
then You will see there bdump is located on Your system.

Playback Stops when Audition in background (new query on this!)
Before the 3.01 upgrade, if I was playing back a file using EMU Patchmix DSP software with and EMU 1820 M and with the Audio Driver set as E-MU ASIO, I was able to make volume setting adjustments in the EMU Patchmix DSP software while Audition 3.0 was playing back. The key was the checkmark in the "Release ASIO Drive in Background" check box. I believe that 'unchecked' was the condition in that box to allow access to other programs while Audition was playing back. Now, it doesn't matter whether the box is checked or not, Audition stops playing back whenever one clicks on a window outside the Audition window.
Please help with a response to this problem.
James BrodyI've just been editing a photo in photoshop while playing back in Audition 3.0.1 - in other words, you seem to be experiencing a local difficulty - maybe it's to do with the Patchmix software? Does playback stop when Audition simply loses focus, never mind what else you then do (which is what you seem to be saying)?
Does the problem continue if you set the tickbox correctly, exit, and run the program again? -

Anybody has faced a similair situation, what should i do now as i cannot connect online also as the server is down, should i delete the 'Web Catalog Group Assignment' & 'Site_Map_Key' initialization variables and upload the rpd again.
Thanks,
AmitHey Amit,
I've encountered that problem in the past before with Oracle REL 5. If I remember correctly it's a bug and required a patch to be applied. Definitely search metalink 3. I'll do the same and see what I can turn up.

DHCP service randomly stopping, when restarted scopes disappear
I have DHCP and DNS running on two OS X 10.5.7 servers; one is a G5 dual 1.8 Ghz PPC and the other is a 2.8 Ghz quad-core Intel Xserve. This summer I've added VLAN scopes (staff and student wired & wireless) with half the available addresses in each subnet on one server and the other half on the other. An odd thing has happened several times now. The DHCP service will randomly shut down and when I restart it, the new scopes have all disappeared and the old scope is back as the only choice on the list, but not enabled. When I go to check the other server I find the same thing. I thought it was just a fluke the first time it happened and just imported the DHCP settings back in from a backup. It has happened two more times since then, about once a week. If anyone can shed some light on this I'd appreciate it.
I too am having this issue.
DHCP service will crash (after investigation I found that it was servermgrd that crashes) all the scopes are still there, then when I restart the service it wipes out all my scopes except the default one that is in there when you initially configure the service.
Everything goes haywire, DNS seems to go down halfway, then I put the scopes back in, and at least DHCP rights itself.
This is a serious issue, I have 5 scopes in this server. I also have one other server that only has one scope, but does not have this issue.
All running 10.5.6 Server on Intel Xserves.
Here is part of my crash log:

Microsoft Shadow Copy Service disables itself when trying to run backups.
I am running Vista Business SP2 and Symantec System Recovery 2013 on my Dell Optiplex GX620 Work Station and my Latitude D830 Laptop. My automatic backups constantly fail due to the fact that the Microsoft Shadow Copy Service continually disables itself.
When I go in and manually reset the service to "Manual" where it belongs, the backups work fine. My problem is I can't find out why the Shadow Copy Service continually disables itself. I have found through trial that it has nothing to do with the
antivirus/antimalware program I am running which is Webroot "Secure Anywhere". I have spent many hours with Norton Enterprise Technical Support and they cannot locate the issue within their product. They are certain it is a Microsoft issue. Same
whith the Webroot people. I have not been successful in getting any answers out of Microsoft. I have talked to techs who either want too much money to handle my problem or there are techs who have given me solutions that do not work. I have all but given up
on Microsoft for assistance with this issue. I have read everything I can find in the Knowledge Base, and what has been written here. I still am in a quandry as to what is causing the shadow service to disable. At present I have no automatic backup system.
I am forced to run it manually because of this issue. I consider this a sad senario in this technical climate in which we live. If anyone out there has the slightest idea as to what could be causing my problem please help! I am open to any solution at this
point. Thanks All! Paul J. Wiekierak ([email protected])Hi pwiekier,
Can you find any warnings or errors related to this ?
I suspect this is a third party service conflict issue.I recommend you to perform a clean boot to have a troubleshoot.
Please follow these steps to perform a troubleshoot:
1.Search "Msconfig.exe" from the start menu
2.Choose "Services" item
3.Choose "Hide all Microsoft services " and choose"Disable all"
4.Click "OK" and Restart
And then check this service ,if the issue disappeared, it is a third party service conflict issue.
We can make a further analysis by enabling the third party service with dichotomy to find out the culprit.

"SYSTEM_FAILURE" error message when running BEX query
Hello,
I often encounter this error when I run BEX queries (take note that I encounter this error after I have already entered the query values). But when I run the same query in a later time, the query becomes successful, which makes the problem intermittent. I only encounter this when running BEX but I don't encounter such error when I'm running the query in RSRT and displaying it in SAP instead of in Excel. I hope you have any idea about this. Thank you.Hi Lee,
Check transaction ST22 or SM21 after you get that message.
Hope this helps.

I am upgrading/patching my test 10g database. While upgrading it ask you stop all oracle services in order to continue the upgrade. I did that but it is still asking to stop all oracle services. Now what do I do, anybody have experience with that.
First, make sure you don't have any thing automatically started, and don't use even sqlplus, as a client it will load several dll's and when the upgrade process starts it will mark several dll's as being used.
I've been working with win2003 several upgrade processes, I don't know exactly why, but several dll's are still marked as being used, even if the host was restarted with the service set to manual start. The exact list of dlls that are in this situation correspond to those used by an oracle client.
The workaround I found for my specific case was to rename the dll's and let OUI to write the new version. -
Is "shutdown" = "stop Oracle services"?
When I perform a "shutdown" command from sydba:
Is this the same as if I do no shutdown but stop all the Oracle services e.g. (for XE):
XETNSListener
and
XEService
If it is more: What more?
PeterNo it is not the same. The listener and other Oracle processes like the agent are controlled differently than the database service. Please see your documentation.
Sorry forgot the link

The CrashIDs are what is needed. Do not attempt to attach or paste the reports.

So you are saying it works ok as long as you avoid certain pages such as this Forum. That makes me wonder if it could be malware that is blocking access to assistance.Run malwarescans with multipe and up-to-date tools.
Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:
* [http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/default.aspx Microsoft Safety Scanner]
* [http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/ MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware]
* [http://support.kaspersky.com/faq/?qid=208283363 TDSSKiller - AntiRootkit Utility]
* [http://www.surfright.nl/en/hitmanpro/ Hitman Pro]
* [http://www.eset.com/us/online-scanner/ ESET Online Scanner]
[http://windows.microsoft.com/MSE Microsoft Security Essentials] is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

How to stop Oracle services?
I'm new to Oracle. I have installed Oracle 10g and I'm trying to apply patch 10.2.0.5. I'm getting the error that ORASLAX10.DLL is being used by another process. I have found out that SNMP is using that dll. I have restarted SNMP but it will use the dll right away.
This is exactly what I have done before I start installing the patch:
Installed Oracle 10g 10.2.0.4
Restarted the server
I think that I probably need to shutdown Oracle services and/or database. I have checked the Services in Administrative Tools and I don't see any services with name starting with Oracle. I have ran lsnrctl status and there is no listener. What other commands should I run to check/stop any Oracles services/database?Thanks for all the helps.
Even though the Universal Installer windows was not responding at 100%, the patch installation seems to be completed successfully according to the log file.
Where can I find a list of non-Oracle services used by Oracle? I still have not figured out which product of Oracle I installed is using the SNMP service.
