Reinstall xcode to get unix development tools

I am running 10.6.8 (snow leopard) and do not wish to upgrade.
I have xcode installed, ver. 3.2.6, but it seems it was installed without the unix development tools which I now need to install MacPorts. Since 3.2.6 is the last version that is compatible with snow leopard, it would seem I can't just upgrade, but must reinstall.
My questions are:
a. Must I uninstall then reinstall, or can I install over?
b. Must I use the original cds, or can I use the downloaded version dmg to install the UDTs...I vaguely remember reading that the two are different, but don't remember how.
Thanks

Uninstall the current version of Xcode. Download Xcode 3.2.6 from Apple's Developer Connection (you may need to setup a free account). Then do a custom install.

  • How do I completely uninstall Xcode and Developer Tools?

**Sorry if this isn't the place to ask this, but I really didn't find a section dedicated to this, so I'm asking it here.**
I installed Xcode and the Mac developer tools from Apple's developer site page and I'm not going to use it (for the time being anyway). I dragged and dropped all of the files from the download into the trash and emptied it. Then, I went to Terminal, and typed in the following:
    sudo /Developer/Library/uninstall-devtools –mode=all
It gave me a prompt to enter my password before continuing, entered my password, and then that was it! Question is, though, is this really it? Did I really get rid of Xcode and all of the developer stuff that came in the Mac Developer Tools download?

The only thing that I could find in utilities that started with "X" was something called "X11". Also, I had Xcode 3.1.2 installed, and at first I tried typing this command in Terminal:
    $ sudo <Xcode>/Library/uninstall-devtools --mode=all
I got this from the "About Xcode 3.1.2" document from Apple's developer site, but it wouldn't work. Then I tried the code that I posted in my first post, and I guess it worked. I actually entered the code
    sudo /Developer/Library/uninstall-devtools –mode=all
a few times (for closure) and the same thing happened every time: password to continue and, that's it! So I guess it worked. I actually got that code from a blog after googling "how to uninstall xcode 3.1.2 and developer tools"!

  • Where can I download complete Xcode Developer Tools for OS-X 10.6?

I have OS-X version 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard, I think). I do not have Xcode installed. I do not have the original MAC DVD.
I figured out I needed Xcode 3.2. When I download "Xcode 3.2" it from Apple, during install it says it failed "to locate package at ~/Packages/DeveloperTools.pkg".
Downloading "Xcode 3.2.1 Developer Tools" (there is no "Xcode 3.2 Developer Tools"), installing it results in the same error message. (The contents of this DMG is "XcodeTools.mpkg".)
Maybe I should download "Xcode 3.2.6 and iOS SDK 4.3 for Snow Leopard"? (But that is 4.14GB and I can't download that right now.)
Or am I stuck because I do not have the original DVD which I may need to get "DeveloperTools.pkg"?
(Also, why do you think the DMG binaries are so huge? The "Xcode 3.2" DMG for example, is 1GB, but the inside "Xcode.mpkg" is only 541KB!)

Any of the Xcode 3.2.x download packages will work with Snow Leopard. You don't need the Snow Leopard DVD to install Xcode, but if you had the DVD things would be easier for you because you could install Xcode from the DVD and not have to download it. If you don't need to develop for iOS, Xcode 3.2.2 is 744.71 MB, which is a much smaller download than Xcode 3.2.6.
The Xcode binaries are huge because you're downloading and installing more than just Xcode. There are other GUI apps, such as Interface Builder, Instruments, Dashcode, and Quartz Composer. There are also command-line tools. And there may also be developer documentation included with the Xcode binaries. All that adds up.

  • Developer tools for 10.3 (or help compiling for 10.3)

I want to use the 'date' command to adjust the date but the -v (adjust) flag isn't available on the 10.3.9 server where the script needs to run.
So i'm trying to install 'yest' (a date manipulation tool) on the same 10.3 server. (maybe someone has a better idea?)
I've downloaded the latest xcode 3.1 dev tools but it won't install on this 10.3 server. Installer opens but never gets to the main installation window.
i've installed 'yest' on another ppc computer (10.5) and copied the binary to this 10.3 server but it gives errors when running... ("stderrp expected to be defined in /usr/lib/libSystem.B.dylib")
so i'm thinking that i need to compile 'yest' on a 10.3 computer but i can't get the developer tools to install on one. i can't find any older versions of the developer tools online either... and can't find one on an installer cd/dvd.
does anyone know where i can get a 10.3 compatible developer tools installer?
or is there a flag i can use when compiling 'yest' on a 10.5 computer so that it'll work on a 10.3 computer? (i'm compiling using "gcc -o /usr/bin/yest yest-2.7.0.4.c")
    any other ideas?
    thanks!

per this url, i copied 4 files from a different 10.3 system to the one i'm trying to compile on. it then worked. i copied the 'yest' binary to the 10.3 server where i want the script to run and now 'yest' works on my 10.3 ppc server.
i think i'll be able to move on now...

  • Where can I get application development kit for iPad?

    Hi apple world,
Where can I get application development tool for iPad?
I am new apple user, and fascinated with iPad. Having computer science background at college, I am interested in developing simple game application to get started. Hopefully, I would like to put some games in app store in the future.
My iTune is in windows XP, and it may be the platform for development.

Actually, it is free to register at http://developer.apple.com/programs/register/ as a developer and download the SDK. The $99 fee only applies if you want to install your Apps on a real iOS device (instead of the simulator) or submit them for distribution on the AppStore.

  • I downloaded the web developer tool bar and after using it my images are gone. I use google and a home page and the big google is gone. I uninstalled firefox and reinstalled it but I still don't have any images. How can I get them back?

Two days ago I downloaded the web developer tool bar (aus2.mozilla.com). I tried to use it but gave up. I deleted the tool bar.
I don't have any images anymore. I use Google.com as my home page (default) and the large GOOGLE isn't there anymore. I've also noticed some of the sites I use don't have the continue or next or enter keys anymore. It seems the only thing I have now is the text.

Are you sure you are looking at the Google page?? In Firefox 4.0 the default homepage / Start Page in Firefox was changed to '''about:home''' which looks a lot like the former www.google.com/firefox homepage.

  • I want to use Xcode to create an app and i need developer tools. so i need to join the devoper program only problem is I'm not 18

i want to use Xcode to create an app and i need developer tools. so i need to join the devoper program only problem is I'm not 18

You can get Xcode without joining the developer program. Just go to the App Store and download it (it's free).
You'd only need to join the Developer program if you want to put your app into the App Store, this is for OS X.
You will need to join the Developer program if you want to develop for IOS. In that case you will need a parent or guardian.

  • XCode App Store download and developer tools packages

So I have been installing the Developer tools since Mac OS X Tiger. They were always on the DVD and then once I became a member I could download the entire dmg from the developer website.
Now XCode is distributed from the AppStore. I had XCode 4.2 installed and once the update to XCode 4.3 was available I went to the AppStore to update it and everything seemed to be different. The XCode app is now just dumped into the Applications folder and it asked me to remove all instances of XCode 4.2.
    So here is my question:
When I buy a new machine and want to install the Developer Tools (as I did with the previous versions) where can I get all the Developer tools? They don't seem to be installed with a developer dmg anymore. I can't get them in total from the AppStore? Can I get the same packaged tools as was on the older OS X DVD or the Developer site for the new XCode 4.3+ ?
How are the developer tools going to be distributed to us from now on? I know I must have missed something along the way, some email or notification.
    Any explaination would be great.
    Thanks,
    Jamie

All that 'stuf' is now either part of one bundle/app or available via prefs...or gone.
    From Apple:
This is the complete Xcode developer toolset for Mac, iPhone, and iPad. It includes the Xcode IDE, iOS Simulator, and all required tools and frameworks for building OS X and iOS apps.

  • Do I need xCode and developer tools?

    Hi,
Do I need Xcode and the developer tools? I'm not a software developer and don't see a time when I will be. I did a quick check and the Developer file on my HD is taking up roughly 6 GB of space. If I don't need them, I'd love to free up that space for other things (i.e. movies, music, photos, etc.). If I don't need them, what is the best way of going about getting rid of them?
    Thanks

You dont need them at all if you're not a developer or do not use any of the utilities for troubleshooting or any other purpose. To uninstall the developer tools, open the Terminal and enter the following command:
    sudo /Developer/Library/uninstall-devtools -mode=all
Supply your password, and you should be all set once the script is done running.

  • Help! How do I get rid of firefox developer tools.

I am a computer dummy. Firefox is installed in our Windows 8 computer as our browser. Whenever we use it, a very annoying thing called Default Fire Fox Developer tools comes up at the bottom and takes up half our screen. Sometime it lets me hit esc. to close it but then it just pops back up. We use our computer for the net, e mail and social media alongside learning sites for our kids. How can I get rid of this thing? Please help me and explain it like I am 6 .

If it happens again then please make a screenshot and attach it to a reply to make sure that we understand correctly what is happening.

  • Trouble installing xcode developement tools....

I downloaded the iphone SDK package to develop iphone apps. In that package there are approximately 20 packages that i am assuming you download to have full functionality to create apps. When I try to download the development tools package I get a message that reads "You have selected a custom install location that exist but not empty. Please make sure that the specified directory is empty or choose another location and retry your install." Have anyone experienced this?

alas, after contemplating the error for 3 more seconds (as i should have before posting), it seems it requires a totally empty folder... my assumption was that it would make a new folder in the root of my external... it seems it does not, and requires you to make an empty folder. perhaps this is a safeguard to prevent wannabe's like myself from installing professional developer tools.
    cheers!

  • Xcode/developer tools uninstall

Please excuse this simple first time post, but I was wondering whether uninstalling the developer tools has any effect on the rest of os x i.e. is it ok to do it to free up some space?
I know how to do it, but just wanted to check it didn't make things unstable first.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Uninstalling developer tools will mainly remove the tools you installed with the Xcode/WebO installer....
If you are curious, open the script uninstall-devtools.pl (located at /Developer/Tools ) in your favorite text editor and change the line 34 to "$do_nothing = 1;" (without the quotes!).
With this setting the script will do nothing but print the list of files that would be uninstalled if you did NOT change this setting
If you are more from the techie side, below is the explanation from inside the script:
    # 1. The package receipts for Dec2001DevToolsExtra,
    # Apr2002DevToolsExtra, Aug2002DevTools10.2Update, Oct2002nibtool,
    # Dec2002DevToolsExtras, June2003DevToolsExtras, 2005-06XcodeExtras.
    # 2. The version.plist files in vmutils.framework,
    # AppleScriptKit.framework from Apr2002DevToolsExtra and
    # Graphite.framework from the June2003DevToolsExtras.
    # 3. All files and receipts for all other Dev* packages.
    # 4. A few odds and ends that aren't explicitly listed in
    # the BOMs (post-install symlinks, help index files,
    # gdb cached symfiles).
    Cheers,
    Walter
