Relationship btwn FM link and output folder

I'm a Word/FM/WWP user evaluating the TCS trial - FM 9 and RH
8. Lots of good stuff in it, but some that I'm having a hard time
wrapping my head around. For example:
-- I create Project A.
-- RH saves Project A; the various !xxx! folders; and an
FMBook folder with a topic folder for each FM file.
-- From RH, I do a Link to FMBook.
-- RH now saves Project A; the !xxx! folders; FMBook and
files; FMBook2 and files.
Subsequent changes are applied to the topic files for FMBook2
but on View Display, RH shows me the material from FMBook. Can
someone explain why it's creating FMBook2 and how I can avoid this?
Thanks,
Steve

Here is a more elaborate explanation about the creation and
details of various folders involved.
# New project created by the user
# RH creates the Project Folder. (NoFMBook or !SSL! folder
generated)
# FMBook is linked to RH project and updated by the user
# RH creates a FMBook folder(say FolderA) in the project
folder with subfolder for each FM chapter in FMBook.
# SSL generated from RH by the user
# !SSL! folder with the corresponding output subfolder
generated. The output folder has FMBook folder(say FolderB) and
chapter subfolders.
Any modification needed should be done in the topic present
in the original folder(FolderA) and again the SSL should be
generated to reflect it in the ouput to be viewed by the end user.

  • Please explain the relationship between sequence setting and output

I am looking for an explanation of the sequence setting and the output settings (Mac Quad core, 10.7.4 - CS6 Production Premium, PR)  I am primarily working in AVC-I 100 and XDCam. I've found that I can drop in AVC-I into a Seq and it will set the Seq to that codec. Many times I'll need to send the in-progress and final edits to my clients as an WMV (HD) video file. In FCP, I would export the self contained seq and use Episode to transcode to wmv. I'm having trouble understanding the best way to do this in PR (CS6).  I've found that if I leave the Seq setting to the AVC-I, the render and the file output is a 50% quality mpeg-I. Is it best to set up a custom sequence w/ ProRes as the render codec? I'm having a hard time finding or getting an explanation of best practices for this type of operation. Any guidance would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    jim

Remember I said you could force Pr to use your rendered preview files instead of the source media for export?  Selecting Match Sequence Settings in the Export Media dialog is how you force it.  Don't do that.  And don't shoot the messenger -- I've lobbied against that label for that control for 2 versions now.
Some Export formats, like H.264 Blu-ray and MPEG2-DVD, have an available Preset called "Match Source Attributes".  If you choose that Preset, you get something like this:

  • How to set "Output folder" and "Outputfolder URL" in Flasbuilder 4b1 for combined Java/Flex project with WTP?

    Hi,
how can I set the "Output folder" and "Output folder URL" in Flasbuilder 4b1?
In Flexbuilder 3 I can do this under Project Properties/"Flex Build Path"
Under "Flex Build Path" in F4b1 I can see the settings, but they are not editable.
A message says "The output folder settings for server projects are on the Flex Server Property Page" but under "Flex Server" there is nothing (yet) I can change/set?!
    Is there a workaround?
    Thanks for any pointers!
    Martin Zach

Yes I'm using Flash Builder b1, build 235740. But your settings panel looks different to mine (see attached).
Just a thought. When you created the Flex project, did you choose a server technology at that point already? I just remember from Flex Builder 3 that if you didn't choose a server technology when you created the Flex project then it was a pain in the ** to add it later. It involved editing the .flexProperties file manually if I remember correctly.

  • Webhelp Output Folder Structure

This is more of a question than an issue.
When I generate webhelp from a FrameMaker-integrated RoboHelp
project, RoboHelp always adds a folder to the output to match the
name of the FrameMaker book in the Project Manager/Project Files
    folder.
    Example:
My FM book is called apiusersguide.book. After bringing the
content into RoboHelp, the parent folder (to match the book name)
is apiusersguide. When I generate the webhelp, I want the output to
be in a folder structure that looks like this:
    apiguide\
    apiguide.htm (webhelp startup file)
    chapter1\topics.htm
    chapter2\topics.htm
and so on. The output I want is apiguide\chapter\topic.htm.
However, RH ALWAYS adds the book name to the top level, even
if I omit it in the Webhelp Output Folder field when I generate. So
the folder structure ends up looking like this:
apiusersguide\ (name of the FM book and top level RH folder)
    apiguide.htm (webhelp startup file)
    apiguide\
    chapter1\topics.htm
    chapter2\topics.htm
and so on. The output I GET is
    apiusersguide\apiguide\chapter\topic.htm.
I've experimented with a variety of different FM book names
and output folder names and RH ALWAYS inserts that top level folder
automatically. Is there any way to NOT generate the extra top level
    folder in the output?

I am sorry Michael, I am unable to understand the exact
problem. Have you created the TOC using the Auto-create TOC option?
That could be the only reason for it to display the same names of
book in the output. Have you tried to name the books and the topics
as you have specified in the TOC? If not, do that first and I am
sure you can get the desired results.
Again, as I mentioned, if I have not understood you
correctly, please let me know the real issue and I'll try
    resolvingit for you.

  • Output folder URL not sticking

In the Flex Build Path setting for my Flex project, I set the

The attribute name in .actionScriptProperties is "rootURL",

I am trying to organize a zip file with a bunch of links and files. But when I drag an image file to a folder, it always "Snaps to grid" instead of just landing where I put it. All of the files are going into the same zip file but I want them visually in the space that I put them and not at the bottom of the snap to grid folder location they are looking like.  I am trying to  drag and drop files in groups so that I can group them for now, but image files always do their own "sort by" when I drag them from my web pages. Links don't do it though.  I tried resetting the folder, and deleting the DS files. No luck.

  • Script to search all files in specified folder for multiple string text values listed in a source file and output each match to one single results txt file

I have been searching high and low for this one.  I have a vbscript that can successfully perform the function if one file is listed.  It does a Wscript.echo on the results and if I run this via command using cscript, I can output to a text file
that way.  However, I cannot seem to get it to work properly if I want it to search ALL the files in the folder.  At one point, I was able to have it create the output file and appear as if it worked, but it never showed any results when the script
was executed and folder was scanned.  So I am going back to the drawing board and starting from the beginning.
I also have a txt file that contains the list of string text entries I would like it to search for.  Just for testing, I placed 4 lines of sample text and one single matching text in various target files and nothing comes back.  The current script
I use for each file has been executed with a few hundred string text lines I want it to search against to well over one thousand.  It might take awhile, but it works every time. The purpose is to let this run against various log files in a folder and
let it search.  There is no deleting, moving, changing of either the target folder/files to run against, nor of the file that contains the strings to search for.  It is a search (read) only function, going thru the entire contents of the folder and
when done, performs the loop function and onto the next file to repeat the process until all files are searched.  When completed, instead of running a cscript to execute the script and outputting the results to text, I am trying to create that as part
of the overall script.  Saving yet another step for me to do.
My current script is set to append to the same results file and will echo [name of file I am searching]:  No errors found.  Otherwise, the
output shows the filename and the string text that matched.  Because the results append to it, I can only run the script against each file separately or create individual output names.  I would rather not do that if I could include it all in one.
This would also free me from babysitting it and running each file script separately upon the other's completion.  I can continue with my job and come back later and view the completed report all in one.  So
if I could perform this on an entire folder, then I would want the entries to include the filename, the line number that the match occurred on in that file and the string text that was matched (each occurrence).  I don't want the entire line to be listed
where the error was, just the match itself.
Example:  (In the event this doesn't display correctly below, each match, it's corresponding filename and line number all go together on the same line.  It somehow posted the example jumbled when I listed it)
    File1.txt Line 54
    Job terminated unexpectedly
File1.txt Line 58 Process not completed
    File1.txt
Line 101 User input not provided
    File1.txt
    Line 105  Process not completed
    File2.txt
    No errors found
    File3.txt
Line 35 No tape media found
    File3.txt
    Line 156 Bad surface media
    File3.txt Line 188
    Process terminated
Those are just random fake examples for this post.
This allows me to perform analysis on a set of files for various projects I am doing.  Later on, when the entire search is completed, I can go back to the results file and look and see what files had items I wish to follow up on.  Therefore, the
line number that each match was found on will allow me to see the big picture of what was going on when the entry was logged.
I actually import the results file into a spreadsheet, where further information is stored regarding each individual text string I am using.  Very useful.
If you know how I can successfully achieve this in one script, please share.  I have seen plenty of posts out there where people have requested all different aspects of it, but I have yet to see it all put together in one and work successfully.
    Thanks for helping.

I'm sorry.  I was so consumed in locating the issue that I completely overlooked posting what exactly I was needing  help with.   I did have one created, but I came across one that seemed more organized than what I originally created.  Later
on I would learn that I had an error in log location on my original script and therefore thought it wasn't working properly.  Now that I am thinking that I am pretty close to achieving what I want with this one, I am just going to stick with it.
However, I could still use help on it.  I am not sure what I did not set correctly or perhaps overlooking as a typing error that my very last line of this throws an "Expected Statement" error.  If I end with End, then it still gives same
    results.
So to give credit where I located this:
    http://vbscriptwmi.uw.hu/ch12lev1sec7.html
I then adjusted it for what I was doing.
What this does does is it searches thru log files in a directory you specify when prompted.  It looks for words that are contained in another file; objFile2, and outputs the results of all matching words in each of those log files to another file:  errors.log
Once all files are scanned to the end, the objects are closed and then a message is echoed letting you know (whether there errors found or not), so you know the script has been completed.
What I had hoped to achieve was an output to the errors.log (when matches were found) the file name, the line number that match was located on in that file and what was the actual string text (not the whole line) that matched.  That way, I can go directly
to each instance for particular events if further analysis is needed later on.
So I could use help on what statement should I be closing this with.  What event, events or error did I overlook that I keep getting prompted for that.  Any help would be appreciated.

  • Printing or Converting to PDF and outputting in current folder?

    Hi all,
I've got a bunch of Word docs in a bunch of different folders and I'm looking for an easy way to convert them to PDF without much intervention.  I can go into my Adobe PDF printing preferences and specify each folder before I select all the Word docs and print them, but then I have to change the output folder each time.  I'm looking for a way to specify it to just output the PDF to the current folder by default and not bring up a dialog box to rename the file.
Is there an easy way to do this?  I have docs separated into about 50-100 different folders.  I'd like to just point it to the root folder and click print or convert, but if I have to go into each folder individually, select all and print/convert then that would be more acceptable than the way we have to do it currently.
    Thanks for your time!

  • FrameMaker 9 - URL's not linked and/or not updated in .pdf output

I'm editing (or trying to) a .book that someone else (former tech writer at work) created.  I can find the URL references (markers) and have updated them and/or updated the commands in them as best I can tell.  (As best I can tell meaning that I see them saying that they are linked to the right address.  We now require https: where we previously support http: access to a certain site, so I'm having to update all of the links that would go to that site that are included in the document that I'm trying to update)
The problem is multiple, as in I'm working on 2 different documents.  In one of them it would appear that most of the links are just gone.  Where I edited the marker to go to the right site there is no longer a link to the site at all.. just the text that shows the site name that was there as a hotlink before :-(
In the second document I'm having a similar issue, the hotlink that should be going to the site I want to reference is just gone.  The text that should be a hotlink to the site is there, it's underlined as it was before, but the hotlink is gone... just the text remains with no hotlink in the .pdf file that is created when I print the book to .pdf
The other issue is that I updated the markers in the headers/footers to go to the https: address and yet the links that are there in the headers/footers are showing http: and that is where the hotlinks are trying to get to.
I'd appreciate any help anyone can offer on what I may be doing wrong or how to correct the issue.
    Thanks!

    Barry,
It could be that whomever was creating the documents before simply relied on Acrobat's ability to convert URLs to active links dynamically, instead of inserting the actual hypertext markers on the FM end of things. In that case, you will have to add the markers manually.
There also may be a conflict between what Acrobat is automatically trying to interpret as a link and what you have defined by the marker to be the link. FM uses the formatting range that the marker is inserted into to delimit the "hot" zone for the link. So if the marker is inserted outside of a formatting change (i.e. not blue and underlined), then you may end up with two links in Acrobat.

  • SCRIPT TO IMPORT MULTIPLE PLACED IMAGES..AND OUTPUT MULTIPLE IMAGES TO SINGLE PDF.

Anyone got a script to import multiple placed images into CS4? or is this possible in CS5?
and can we output multiple layers into a single PDF in illustrator?  Or multiple layers into single JPEGS from illustrator with one command instead of individually saving out each page... would be a huge time saver for me.
Currently I output each completed layer individually and then right click those outputted jpegs in their output folder and choose "combine supported files into acrobat..." to make a single acrobat file..
I`d also like to be able to CTRL click multiple layers and go save as... only those layers get saved out...
And so adding something in the Save for PDF output dialogue box to save layers to multiple pages would be a helpful time saver..

In CS 4 and CS 5 you can drag and drop fro m the finder or the Bridge, and I guess any other similar type viewer, multiple number of image files to a document. You can configure the bridge in such a way as to allow you to see the Bridge and your document at the same time for this very purpose.
If you just drag and drop the files are linked if you drag while holding the shift key then the files will be embedded.
ID and PS CS 5 have a minibridge which works the sam way but is an actually panel and will stay in the front.
I separate the images but they import one on top of another.

  • RoboHelp 9 Publish to SharePoint - why not just change output folder?

    Hello,
For publishing my help to SharePoint, I was not able to get the video publishing to SharePoint to play, but tried to follow what written instructions I could find. and they didn't work. However, I was able to publish directly to SharePoint by simply changing the "Output folder and Start page" on the "General"  WebHelp single source layout settings page. I just made the files go directly to the SharePoint document library - into an empty folder I placed there.  Here is the path I used: \\sharepoint\HR\HCMHRResources\OnlineHelp\HRSpace\index.htm    It seems to work fine. Is there any reason I should not do it this way?

Oops... my bad My Bad MY BAD!
That will teach me to reply without fully comprehending the thread. I was thinking you were referring to typing the UNC address into the publish destination field. But after looking at it again it seems you are talking about where WebHelp is generated.
Actually you DO NOT want to work that way. Here's why.
If you are placing content on a shared medium, odds are that users are accessing it from there, no? The first steps in the generation process involve removing the content from the folder in preparation for receiving a new round of content. And as you may imagine, if users are looking at the information and suddenly it's deleted, it's going to cause issues.
You always want to generate to your local hard drive. Then copy that content from your generated location to the server. And that's what Publish (which is what I thought you were doing) accomplishes.

  • Can you retrieve document from the output folder?

OK, this was a stupid thing to do, I know.  But I'm hoping there is a solution.
I spent the past two days editing a 600+ page document that I produced using the Printed Documentation SSL.  Unfortunately, I didn't copy it out of the output folder.  This morning, I inadvertently started to run the same SSL, but cancelled before it had a chance to generate.  Too late.  The "Clearing Output Folder" line already appeared in the log.
Is there a way to retrieve the file once RoboHelp "clears" it?  At the moment, there is no file with that name in the output folder.

Hi, I am no longer able to link to a Folder View of a PDF Portfolio:

This used to work for me - very important feature that no longer works. Please advise a workaround.
    Steps:
    1. Start a PDF Portfolio that contains files and folders
    2. Open a PDF in the Portfolio
    3. in the opened PDF click Add or Edit Link
    4. Define a link area and set it to Go To A Page Vies
    5. In the past i have been able to target a Folder View in the Portfolio - ie. direct a user not to a file, but instead to a folder view that contains relevant files. I would do this by setting the Target Page View to my desired folder view
    6. This used to work in bringing a user to the folder view i specify. Now it does nothing. If i go back to the PDF and EDIT the Link i see this. File: Parent Document Page 1. This in fact does nothing.
