Relocate SMTP queue storage

Hey all,
I've been using an xserve raid for imap storage for all my user's data for quite a while now, as originally I grew large enough that the sheer amount of data was bringing my mail server to it's knees when running it from the OS drive. Mailbfr's literally went from around 30 minutes to 45 seconds - huge improvement.
As of recently, I've become very busy with mailing lists and have noticed the exact same thing from excessive mail queue holding and sending from SMTP, and was wondering if there's something similar that can be done to relocate that from
the current directory: /var/spool/postfix/hold/
to the raid: /Volumes/Willet/Mail/something.../
I was considering sym-link but figured there may be a proper configuration file to use instead...
Here's a grep to show how I'm accomplishing imap right now:
xserve4:/Volumes/Willet/Mail/spool ageis$ sudo grep -R Willet /etc/*
/etc/cyrus.conf:# UNIX sockets start with a slash and are put into /Volumes/Willet/Mail/imap/socket
/etc/cyrus.conf: lmtpunix cmd="lmtpd" listen="/Volumes/Willet/Mail/imap/socket/lmtp" prefork=0
/etc/cyrus.conf:# notify cmd="notifyd" listen="/Volumes/Willet/Mail/imap/socket/notify" proto="udp" prefork=1
/etc/imapd.conf:configdirectory: /Volumes/Willet/Mail/imap
/etc/imapd.conf:partition-default: /Volumes/Willet/Mail/spool/imap
/etc/postfix/main.cf:virtual_transport = lmtp:unix:/Volumes/Willet/Mail/imap/socket/lmtp
This is an xserveg5 running 10.4.11 server.
Figured I'd post here as well if it gets more traffic, and the issue sounds independent of OS.

Thanks for the reply!
Made the change and ran
rsync -avh --progress /private/var/spool/postfix/ /Volumes/Willet/Mail/spool/postfix/
Permissions are identical, and I have /Volumes/Willet/Mail/spool/imap/ for imap share, and that's working so the root directory permissions seem to be fine.
But ran into this problem:
Changed main.cf:
queue_directory = /Volumes/Willet/Mail/spool/postfix/
#queue_directory = /private/var/spool/postfix
Ran: sudo postfix reload
postfix/postfix-script: fatal: the Postfix mail system is not running
In system.log:
Sep 15 15:57:04 xserve4 postfix/smtpd[3539]: warning: connect #1 to subsystem private/proxymap: Connection refused
Sep 15 15:57:05 xserve4 postfix/postfix-script: fatal: the Postfix mail system is not running

  • Clear the smtp queue in postfix

I've been trying to find a way to clear the smtp queue from postfix in Lion Mail Server.  Got hit by a bad account penetration sending spam and want to clear it to see what is new.  TIA

Sorry for the delay in getting back.  Thanks.  That's exactly what I was looking for.  Another one of those tidbits to tuck away.

  • Automatic replies stuck in Outbound SMTP queue - 451 4.4.0 and 451 5.7.3 errors

We have a pair of Exchange 2010 SP3 servers (A and B) with a few DAGs set up on them, plus a third hub transport & client access server (C) which routes in and outbound emails through a mail filtering service.
Normal emails sent from Outlook or OWA are being delivered in and out just fine, but any system generated replies such as OOF or automatic replies set on our Servicedesk mailbox are failing to arrive.
When I look at the queue viewer on A which is the normal active copy of the DAG I can see 100 or more emails sat in a queue called "Exchange2010 Outbound" which is our Send Connector - it's sent to route mail through two smart hosts owned by our
mail filtering provider. The last Error is showing as "451 4.4.0 Primary target IP address responded with: "451 5.7.3 Cannot achieve Exchange server authentication" Attempted failover to alternate host, but that did not succeed. Either there
are no alternate hosts or delivery failed to all alternate hosts"
The only references to that error I can find seem to involve a complete inability to send emails, and are caused by an unticked box on the receive connector for "exchange server authentication", but that *is* enabled on all of our receive connectors
and anyway this is concerned with emails leaving the organisation.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi Vespa,
Agree with Andy. I would like to verify if you are sending outgoing messages through a SmartHost. Because many SMTP Gateways drops "Automatic Replies" by default since they have the Return-Path empty.

  • How to relocate media cache folder?

For User with SSD "C" drives the cache file quickly fill the drive; therefore, it would be advantageous to relocate the cache storage to a Data drive.  I have yet to find a way to manage this task.

    DrTompkins
Please check out Edit Menu/Preferences/Scratch Disks and the Media Cache category in particular. In the preference you can point the Media Cache (Conformed Audio Files) to hard drive save location of your choice. Note - in preferences you will see the current location of the Media Cache Files Folder as well as the amount of free hard drive space at that location.
While you are in the preferences, check out the other categories, location and free hard drive space at that location. See specially Video Previews. At its hard drive location, you will find the preview files that are automatically generated each time you render Timeline content...for SD, dv.avi and for HD, MPEG2.mpg (same formats whether the preview is from video or still source...they can pile up significantly).
There is also Edit Menu/Preferences/Media and its Media Cache Database area. Best use the Clean button there for maintenance purposes. This relates to the Media Cache Files Folder in the location Users\Owner\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Common and in the Common Folder is the Media Cache Files Folder that contains the conformed video files (mcdb).
This Media Cache Files Folder seems to return/regenerate anew to its default location no matter how hard you try to redirect it.
Any questions or need clarification on any of the above, please do not hesitate to ask.
    Thank you.

  • Iis SMTP relay Content-encoding

I am using IIS 6 SMTP Virtual Server to relay messages from our internal network to Exchange Online. This is working correctly except for one minor problem.
When using Task Scheduler to send an email with attachment (using the built in send email function), the attachment cannot be opened. When attempting to open an excel file (.xlsx, or .xlsm) sent by a scheduled task, Excel states "The file is corrupted
and cannot be opened", or "Excel found unreadable content in <filename.xlsm>".
By monitoring the SMTP queue folder, I can see the Content-Transfer-Encoding is set to base64 for emails with attachments sent by our other automated systems. However, excel files sent by Task Scheduler are
incorrectly set to 8 bit instead. This only seems to happen with Excel files. Files with .pdf or .docx extensions can be opened after being emailed
    by Task Scheduler.
My best guess is that this is a failing of the SMTP relay. Is there some way this can be configured to encode Excel attachments as base 64?

I would recommend asking them here: http://forums.iis.net/

  • Unexplained Evening Storage Activity

I just recently opened up a trial account and have been playing around with Azure websites and storage.  When I got in this morning, I took a look at my Azure portal and it showed my storage activity suddenly jump at 5pm from zero to ~1K request/hr
in table storage and ~300/hr in both blob and queue storage.  This continued for 7 hours straight and then everything dropped back down to zero at 1am.
My first instinct is to assume this is the Azure service performing routine backups/maintenance, which is fine, and it doesn't appear to be a terribly expensive amount of activity, but a couple things bother me.
I never created any queues or tables, and my storage containers are empty, so there is nothing to back up, so what were they doing for 7 hours?
When I first saw this activity, I feared somebody had hijacked my account.  How am I supposed to tell the difference between my activity and Azure backend maintenance activity?

    Hi,
Please enable Logging in monitoring service of Azure storage account in your management portal.
The diagnostics logs are saved in a blob container named $logs in your storage account. Please refer the following articles for types of entries that can be logged by enabling logging feature:

  • Exchange 2013 Multi Site Not SR/HA

This is the first time we have deployed a multi site Exchange organization.  Here is the scenario and I am wondering if it is the correct one or if I should have done it a different way.
We have a VPN setup between our corporate location and a satellite campus.  The satellite campus has it's own namespace and is a tree in our forest.  We have Exchange 2013 SP1 setup at the corp location.  We installed two Exchange 2013 SP1 servers
at the satellite location in that domain in the same Exchange organization.  I was able to create a few linked users mailboxes (newly acquired and in process of user migration into our forest) and mail delivers between the two without issue.  But
lately every new user will not receive email and they will be in the queue.  Does not matter if the email is from a corp user or a local user on the same mailbox server.
We decided to do this because we want them to have all of their Exchange resources, email, CAS services and UM local to them, but they are still part of our system.  I am having a hard time finding why this is happening.  I also noticed that the emails
sent from one satellite user to another is actually going through the corp hub transport server and not their local.  Sites and Services is setup with the correct subnets for each site.  I have verified the send and receive connectors.
Is this scenario the best way to configure our organization or should we simply have created a second organization of their own and tried to share calendars, etc between the two?  All of our other services are centrally located so it only made sense that
this should also work but before going live I wanted to see if this was the optimal way.  This is not a high availability or site resiliency plan.  No DAGs are used.  We are just one company with two separate very remote disjoint locations and
even though we have a small VPN for services we would like to keep as much as possible local to that site.
I have not been able to find information on this scenario.  Everything seems to point to SR/HA scenarios.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You can't create a second organization when the domain is in the same forest, so you shouldn't have done that.
You're saying that SMTP messages are stuck in the queue?  That can be caused by any number of problems, but my experience is that it is most likely one of the following.  Look at the SMTP queue and see if any error code is listed, and post that
    here.
    1. In the main site, the site to which the messages are being sent, someone has modified the Default receive connector(s) in a way that the Exchange server can't connect.  The most likely issues would be modifying the PermissionGroups or RemoteIPRanges
properties.  Best practice is to not modify the Default receive connector (except maybe to add AnonymousUsers to the PermissionGroups to allow inbound mail), and instead create a new connector for the special purpose with the connection limitations supplied.
    2. You have a firewall or relay device between the servers that's "helping" your SMTP connections (Cisco PIX firewalls are notorious for this, disable "SMTP Fixup") or breaking authentication.  The servers must be able to connect on port 25 without
    any molestation of the transactions.

  • Can not receive emails from any accounts rather than Rogers(my ISP)

    Hi all,
I have OCS10g installed on RHEL_AS4. Currently I got problem to receive and send emails both inbound and outbound.
When I send e-mail by either Oracle Web Access Client or Oracle Mail. It went smooth through the sending page. Unfortunately I can not get the e-mails neither from inbound or outbound domains, except [email protected]. Rogers is my current ISP and I am using the TZO dynamicIP service for the OCS server.
The configuration for smtp_inbound_server are as following. Has anyone known the solution of my problem?

  • 550 5.7.1 Unable to relay for [probably bogus Email address]

    Hello,
My Exchange Server has been reporting numerous instances of the following message (or very similar messages) most days for a couple of weeks or so now:
This is an SMTP protocol log for virtual server ID 1, connection #3. The client at "118.161.64.59" sent a "rcpt" command, and the SMTP server responded with "550 5.7.1 Unable to relay for [email protected] ". The
full command sent was "rcpt TO: <[email protected]>". This will probably cause the connection to fail. For more information, click http://www.microsoft.com/contentredirect .asp
The Email address is unknown, and probably bogus.
What really concerns me is that the messages from yesterday (Sunday!) contained a now defunct Email account from someone who used to work in our London head office, but left about a couple of years ago. To me, this implies that there has been unauthorised
access to the company IT infrastructure - possibly at both sites - and that someone is trying to get our Exchange Server to relay unsolicited / mailicious Emails. The above message suggests that the attempted relaying has not been successful to date, and I
can't find anything out of the ordinary in the SMTP queues or the Exchange logs - but the persistence does concern me.
So, am I reading this correctly? If so, what can I do about it? Or if not, what does it really mean?
Thankyou very much for your help.
    Kind regards,
    Keith

If your Exchange server is accessible from the Internet, as it would be to allow you to receive SMTP mail unless you have a relay server like an Exchange Edge server, then Spammers will attempt to use it to relay.  Your server is correctly rejecting
that, so I don't see a problem.  If you're worried about this, then you could contract with a third-party cloud-based message hygiene service like Exchange Online Protection, and the restrict the IP address that can talk to your Exchange server to those
    of the hygiene service.

  • Mail App Long References Header

I have problems replying to some messages in Mail App. It happens when there are a few recipients on the conversation and the references header has got quite large.
When I view the raw source of the message in my inbox I can see that the references header is quite big, with each reference separated by a line break. My reply to this message is sent okay but gets stuck in our mail server's outgoing SMTP queue. Viewing the sent message's raw source reveals that Mail App has removed all the line breaks in the reference header and sent it all as a single line of well over 1000 characters in length. I believe that this behaviour is not RFC compliant.
Is there a way to stop Mail App from doing this?

Create a new mail flow policy as follows:
    - Go to 'Mail Policies -> HAT overview' link in GUI.
    - Select the Mail Flow Policies link, beneath the HAT Overview.
    - Click the Add Policy button.
    - Name the policy.
    - Set connection Behavior set to RELAY.
    - In the Security Features, turn on Virus Protection and disable Spam Protection.
    - Submit and commit changes.
Create a new sendergroup as follows:
    - Go to 'Mail Policies -> HAT overview' link in GUI.
    - Add a new Sender Group and set the order # to 1. Associate the new
mail flow policy(created above) to this sendergroup.
    - Submit and commit changes.
Now click on the new sendergroup and add the ip address of the exchange server to this sendergroup. Once again, submit and commit changes.

In the example below, it looks like From: going To: was accepted and processed successfully by the IronPort appliance as an inbound traffic.
The reason why you can tell it's inbound (Internet into your network) is because of this entry in the provided logs:
Tue Aug 19 17:45:06 2008 Info: MID 143332 matched all recipients for per-recipient policy DEFAULT in the inbound table
The IronPort scanned it okay and delivered it to the mailserver(which I assume is an Exchange server). The lines below tell us that it got delivered successfully. Is your mailserver 10.1.255.30? The IronPort appears to have the IP of 10.1.255.48.

EDIT: Where can I find my account_name and account_key from my storage account or what does it look like?  Thanks.

I simply try to create a queue with the python sdk in python3.4 but with this code:

The thing is that I'm trying to create a linux auto-scaling farm of ubuntu VMs with a single queue. when this queue contains more than x message, the farm scales up and instead of using 1 VM, it uses 2 or 3.
I already have my VMs , I configured the availability set, the load-balancing but I'm stopped on queues.
It somebody could help, it would be great!
    Thanks

    hi sir,
    Thanks for your posting!
Would you try to follow this official document to create queue:
    http://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/articles/storage-python-how-to-use-queue-storage/#create-queue
    If not, please try it.

  • How to use file system replacing optical archive?

We do not have IXOS (OT) yet.
However I have configured everything for printlist archiving and early archiving for IXOS (on the R3 side ONLY!)
May I modify the procedure a bit so that the archive will be stored in the file system instead of the
optical device since we do not have IXOS yet.
    Please help. Thanks!

    hi,
    Create Queues
In this customizing activity you create queues and specify the queue administrator. This process should become part of the installation routine of the storage system, because not activating a queue can lead to irreparable errors (and may mean having to repeat print list creation and storage).
    Example
CARA Queue: Queue in which the spool writes the storage requests.
    Activities
You can create queues for the following functions:
    Asynchronous storage (CARA-Queue)
    Error in asynchronous storage (CARA_E-Queue)
    Storage confirmation (CFBC-Queue)
    Error in storage confirmation (CFBC_E-Queue)
    Asynchronous retrieval (CFBA-Queue)
    Error in asynchronous retrieval (CFBA_E-Queue)
You can also define a queue administrator.
Also u can check in archivelinking.
    Edit Links
In this customizing activity, you link a document type to an object type, a content repository, and a link table. This has the following effect on documents of this document type:
The documents can only be linked to instances of the specified business object type.
The link entry is entered in the specified link table.
The documents are always stored in the specified content repository.
    Activities
    Enter the following data:
    Object type:
Business object type that exists in the business object repository (transaction SWO3).
One object type can be used with more than one document type.
    Document type
Name of a document type specified in the customizing activity Document types .
    Status
X: The storage system is active.
Empty: The storage system is not active.
    Content repository ID
Two-digit identification number that you have entered in the customizing activity Maintain Content Repositories .
    Link table
Name of the table, in which ArchiveLink enters the link entries between stored documents and the corresponding application documents.
SAP supplies the following link tables:
    TOA01, TOA02, TOA03 (general link tables),
TOAHR (only for documents from the SAP HR application component),
    and
    TOADL (only for print lists).
Alternatively, you can define your own link tables. To do this, enter the customizing activity Maintain available link tables. Here you can also find a description of the link tables supplied by SAP.
    Retention period
Number of months the entry for the stored document remains in the link table before it is deleted.

  • Alerting in CEN - Solutionmanager

    Hi All
We have set up Solution Manager as CEN.Gone through the SAP Note 176492 and done the following steps
    1.Set up a Admin user in 000 client.Sender parameter in SALO_IN_CASE_EMAIL
2.Set up SCOT settings in 000
3.SET up CCMS ALERT METHOD in RZ21 of working client with parameter settings
4.Assign CENTRAL AUTO REACTIONS to MTE Classes in working client
5.Activate Central System Dispatching in working client
Is there anything else to be done and in which client?
Is a RFC from 000 to Working client of CEN required?
what if the SCOT settings are in the working client ?
The Mails are not triggered, dont know how to proceed from here.
    Thanks
    Gnana

We are having the exact same problem.  I have walked through all the configs a dozen times and nothing is jumping out at me.  I can generate e-mail through SCOT just fine manually, but the AutoReaction Methods that send e-mail don't seem to be triggered.  No e-mails are even getting to the SCOT SMTP queue.
If anyone has figured this one out, we all would much appreciate it.
