Reminders in iOS 5 not working

I have iOS 5 on my iPad2 and am using it via the cloud with my MacBookPro and Lion... Events that are created in iCal on both devices show up on the other and on iCloud. However nothing shows up on Reminders. I am correct in understanding that alerts generated by iCal should appear in Reminders? I followed Apple's instructions for resetting Reminders and Calender settings (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4000) not that it did any good - plus all of a sudden all of my calender entries were duplicated!
Has anyone else had any success with Reminders? How is it supposed to work? So far everything else Cloud related seems to be functioning properly.

Well, after a lot of fiddling around, I have sorted things out. I now understand how Reminders works and it's inter-relationship with Calenders. A drop down Help menu would have been nice though! FWIW, it's a glorified ToDo list that then posts itself onto iCal wherever it appears: on the iPad, the cloud or the desktop. I also deleated the various calendars I had created within iCal and now have just one, and that seems to have made it easier for iCloud to synch back and forth without creating multiple copies of things. Somewhere in all this, I started seeing my Mail program start sending me copies of my outgoing mail too! Sheesh! Finally got that fixed to. This has been a rather lumpy bumpy start for a new iOS. Oh, and I finally stumbled upon the Notifications drop down window too. I guess I was standing behind the door when THAT was explained somewhere. or were we to just intuitively to know to start pulling things down? Guess I needed a Cheat Sheet this time!

Update contacts feature in Facebook iOS 6 not working properly

Hi!
I've been using the Update All Contacts feature in syncing my phonebook with Facebook. The feature worked for a time but it stopped and I'm not able to update my facebook friends in my Facebook. I tried manually syncing them by adding their @facebook.com emails or their contact numbers (whichever is visible in thier profile) but this has not solve the problem. I also tried resetting the feature by deleting the account on the Facebook integration feature and logging on again but it's still not working.
Any work arounds you can suggest? Thank you!

I'm convinced that this is a Facebook App problem. I'm using an iPhone 5 with iOS 6.1 and the latest version of the FB app. This happens on different WiFi networks and when I turn WiFi off and access FB via LTE. When I access my Timeline the last post I see is from January 24; soon afterwards I get the message "Network Error".
I have removed and reinstalled the app twice and removed my FB profile information from my phone. Each time I do this I reboot (not just power cycle) my phone. The same errors occur with each attempt.
I tried accessing FB using both Safari and Google Chrome on the iPhone 5; there are no errors reported and I can see my entire timeline. I'm losing the ability to "pull down to refresh" but I can get around that with one or two screen taps, so it's no great loss.
Also, as long as I have the FB app installed the iPhone intergration work fine - I just don't use the app.

IOS 7 not working on ipad 2

I bought an iPad 2 new in April of 2011 which was working perfectly (flawlessly even) until updating to IOS 7. Now it has become a $600 paperweight - too bad because I had previously planned to start transitioning my entire office (consulting business) to Mac/Apple devices (may still) and was getting excited as my cell phone, mp3 player, and laptop are all less than a year from replacement and the iPad died while getting a new client which makes adding an employee real soon much more likely. (I hope updating while on the road in West Virginia when I live in Charlotte, NC was not the issue!?!)
Unfortunately, I have big issues and even the Genius Bar people ended up saying go ahead and wait for IOS 8 to see if that fixes the problem.
We can't get IOS 7 to finish installing. Swipes and typed data are extremely sluggish and unresponsive and the unit seems to bog down the further into set-up you go and then eventually freezes. I let it sit several times for many hours with and without power, re-loaded software, restored the unit from itunes, then the Genius Bar guy did the same things. He also followed that with a bluetooth keyboard for entry, but entries were reading only sometimes and sluggish just the same. The set-up after download never finishes. Whether restoring or starting over as a new ipad. The software is just too much for the device for whatever reason.
Interestingly, it is a wifi only unit and has never had harsh treatment, accidents, or not even heavy or hard use. I did recently add a used iphone 4s someone gave me which is synced to itunes and the ipad, but that is really just being used as a "ipod" right now and has no phone service on it.
Does anybody see what might be wrong and what I need to do to fix this? I wish I could just go back to the previous IOS as that worked great all the time.
Is there any chance that removing linkage with hotmail or yahoo email contacts corrupted a file? Is there a way to rebuild the operating system from where it was to IOS 7 in steps to allow me/us to identify where the problem might be?

How far does the update go?
Does it show a blank screen, or a message that says something like: 2 minutes remaining?
Have you tried holding down the Power + Home button together (until screen changes)

Ios 8 not working with chevy link

I upgraded my ipad 3 and iPhone 4S to IOS 8. After the upgrade neither device works correctly in my Chevrolet vehicle via Chevy Link. Both devices worked perfectly with Chevy Link when I was using IOS7.
When I plug in my ipad or Iphone it will connect and play songs but as soon as I select a playlist it displays an error message in my vehicle information screen. When you click "OK" to clear the message the device is immediately disconnected from Chevy link and the radio goes back to XM.
Any suggestions how to remedy the situation? As I said before, all of my Apple devices worked perfectly under IOS7.

After having the same problem with my 2013 Chevy Equinox, I did a factory reset of my iPhone 5s and re-installed IOS 8 from scratch.
I used my iTunes backup to restore my apps, contacts, photo ..etc
Since I did that, I was able to connect my phone via bluetooth to my Chevy Equinox, make phone calls, listen to music ..etc
So far so good. I made about 10 calls, stopped the car, restarted the car and reconnected the phone and it worked.
I wonder if the upgrade from IOS 7 to IOS 8 is not working properly and causing problems with Bluetooth. It seems that a full install after a factory reset fixed my problem.
Hopefully, it is the end of the nightmare. Good luck.

Streaming .ogg file on ios device not working.

I build up a very simple .ogg streaming app for ios and everything goes well in Flash Builder simulator. However when deployed to device the streaming part does not work at all!
This is in ios only, the very same app deployed on BB Playbook works fine after I allow access to internet. But I cannot setup any permissions on ios. I am using AIR 2.7.
Any kind of feedback is greatly apreciated!

When I select a word on my iPhone the "define" Option does not show.

IOS 8 not working with bluetooth controls in BMW

Just upgraded to IOS 8 and now most of the interface functions with BMW iDrive stopped working. I am able to manually make and receive calls via the car and manually play bluetooth audio, but no other controls work. I cannot dial the phone, select playlists, access contacts. I have already reset all system settings on the phone, re-paired the phone with the car in every conceivable combination, etc. and still no luck. Do I have to revert back to IOS 7 which worked fine and wait for Apple to fix this problem? I called BMW and they said it is was an Apple problem. This is the response I expected from them but I believe they are correct because IOS 8 seems to be causing similar problems in other vehicles as well (I have seen Audi and Ford and a few others). Anyone found a solution to this. Apple, are you listening??

I confirm the issue, in my case I cannot make and receive calls thru the idrive since I've upgraded to IOS, I had hopes in the newest upgrade IOS 8.0.2 but the problem remains. Really disappointing. Please Apple take action soonest.

Copy and paste PDF attachment iOS 6 not working.

I cannot copy a PDF dcoument attachment in iOS 6 for iPhone 5 mail.app and then paste it into another email (or other application for that matter).
When you touch the Copy button it doesn't do anything. Is this a bug or a worthless feature?
Copy and Paste does work for images, video, etc. But not PDF documents.
Anybody else have this issue?

Today summary in iOS 8 not working correctly

I have some problems with my iOS 8 Notifications center widgets.
First of all I don't get any weather summary shown. Location Services are on and the weather option is also on. Background refresh for weather is also on. I tried several restarts and still nothing shows up. Of corse I also ran the weather app.
Furthermore birthdays don't show up in NC. I have them added to my contacts (so no manually created events). They show in calendar app and the "birthdays" calendar is activated.
Moreover the "Tomorrow" widget does not show me tomorrow's events.
Another thing is, the calendar widget shows four empty rows when there is no event. On a friends iPhone it just shows "no events" without the rows.
I tried disabling widgets, disabling location services, etc.
This problem just occurs on my iPhone. On my iPad everything works fine.
I am currently using iPhone 6 but this started with my iPhone 5 on iOS 8.0. It worked in the beginning but then it disappeard.
Anyone got some clues how to fix this?

I kind of found a workaround which is not that nice and comes with some uncomfortable side-effects but at least it works:
I deleted my settings on my iPhone using Settings > General > Reset > Erase Settings. Files (photos, music) and Apps remain but all settings like chosen background, chosen ringtone, location services settings, wifi passwords are gone. Furthermore today I read that it also deletes files from iCloud drive (which did not affect me since I do not use it yet).
It also seems for me that it deletes iCloud keychain. After erasing settings all my Wifi passwords were gone from all my iOS and OS X devices. This is really annoying.
But the problems from above (except the big empty calendar widget) were gone. So it seems to originate from some messed up settings.

Airdrop between Mac and iOS does not work

I am using a MBP (early 2011) OS X 10.10 and a iPhone 5s iOS 8.0.2 and I cant get a airdrop connection between them. Same WiFi and Bluetooth is on.
I bet my MBP is too old and does not support some kind of Bluetooth standard....correct? Thanks in advance for your help.

Just wanted to put my 2 cents in and say that using my iPhone 5S and MacbookPro Early 2011 I was able to use both the SMS relay feature and the Phone call receive feature. So I'm not sure where the line is drawn for certain continuity features. I haven't had any handoff features work yet which I don't expect to happen since seamlessly moving something like a Pages files to different devices to continue working on would suggest the need for efficient Bluetooth 4.0 capabilities.
I'm really surprised that they limited the Airdrop from iOS to OS X to the 2012 or older mac models. I mean the bluetooth hardware in the iPhone should be backwards compatible so I see no reason why it couldn't be done between older macs that supported the mac-to-mac feature but didn't have Bluetooth 4.0. just means ill be using the instashare app to take its place... hopefully hey update with some iOS 8 extensibility features, that would make it a perfect solution.

Nope. You can go to iCloud.com from your computer. iCloud is built in to iOS 5 and I think Mac OS.There is a download for Windows users that allows users to sync Mail, Contacts, Calendars, bookmarks, and Photo Stream. But it's not necessary for Apps, music, and ibooks.

Why my music application in iphone 4 with IOS 5 not working properly??

I have Updated mine to IOS 5 and my songs are not playing pproperly from the new Music App. They are syncing properly but not playing some songs,skipping some songs and showing one song but playing another.. Its annoying..Please help me.. Thanks

Possible fix:
Had this annoying issue, or similar. Songs on my iphone 4 would skip untilit found a song it could play, but often left up on the screen a different song to the one playing. It appeared songs hadnt been transferred or were missing causingthe phone to skip the songs.
I heard that if you get a 'weird' beep noise this is the 'shake to shuffle' feature which can be turned off via Settings>Music.
If you have a similar issue to mine, I read converting to AAC (right click song in Itunes and choose 'convert to AAC) could work, and did for me, but is time consuming and duplicates the song.
What worked for me? Turning off 'convert higher bit rate songs to 128 kbps AAC' on the Devices>Your Iphone main menu (device summary page). This reloads all songs to the iphone and appears to fix the issue. I have checked a few songs I knew had issues and they now work, and I can get through 10+ shuffle songs (thats as many as I checked) without a skip.

Calender reminders / alerts to email not working with Mountain Lion

I installed Mountain Lion 10.8.5 on my macbook. Then all my calendar reminders which are set to email me at set times of the day / week / month / year failed to work. I've tried all the advice in all the forums but nothing can make my calendar send me an email to alert me to do what I've set in my calendar.
I've tried everything over a 3 week period and nothing gives me back the functionality I had with the previous version of Calendar sending me emails to remind me to do things.
Even the geniuses at Genius Bar at Apple were not able to make it work.
Can any geniuses out there help me?

Since I have no way of knowing what you've already done, I have to assume you've done nothing.
From the Calendar menu bar, select
Calendar ▹ Preferences ▹ Alerts
and uncheck the box marked
Turn off shared calendar messages in Notification Center
if it's checked.

Manually sorting Reminders in iCal does not work

On my Mac, within iCal, I can not sort Reminders manually. I've deleted iCal Prefs and started over, but still cannot sort manually. Any ideas? Thanks!

The newest Version 5.0.1 (1547.4) of iCal, for Mac OSX Lion (Version 10.7.2), has the Sort Manually option for Reminders. As stated in the preceding reply, however, this option is not available in the iCloud Calendar. Therein lies the problem, apparently.
Yesterday, I was on the phone with Apple Support for an nearly two hours, trying to get to the bottom of this issue. Not knowing the answer, the first person I talked to referred me to someone in the iApps department. The person in the iApps department could not resolve the problem either. So, I was referred to a senior technician in that department. After a lengthy diagnosis, this person confirmed that this is a system-wide problem in which the function is missing. The case was forwarded to the engineers, and I will be notified when they have a response.
Once, I get the response, I will update this discussion thread.
