Remove shared review

How can I remove shared review from an Acrobat X PDF? Everytime I open this PDF a message appears "Please connect to join the shared review..." I want to remove that altogether. In Acrobat 9 it could be removed by choosing File > Save a Copy, but I don't see that option in Acrobat X.

The Save a Copy menu item is still there in Acrobat X, but it only shows if the open document is part of a Shared Review.
If the SR has been ended by the initiator (using Tracker) then the document message bar will also show a button to save an archive copy, which does the same thing.

  • Can no longer access Acrobat shared review server

Hello. We are using Acrobat 8, and yesterday I discovered that I can recreate a lost shared-review PDF by generating a new PDF, and then copying the comment-repository XML files from the original review PDF to the folder belonging to the new review PDF.  That was great, but I wanted other staff members to not fiddle with the XML files, so I set that folder (named "meta") to read-only.  It was previously shared and set to full-access for everybody.
Today, I found that nobody had access to their shared reviews anymore, so I hastily reset the access to the "meta" folder back to full-access, and I re-shared the "meta" folder for everybody.  It isn't helping.  No-one can access their shared reviews.
Note: immediately after I recreated that lost PDF, one of the reviewers added several comments and uploaded them to the server, so I know everything was working fine then.  I set the "meta" folder to read-only sometime later, and I think that's what caused the problem.
    Any ideas?
I've just now tried posting a new shared-review PDF, but this time I created a new shared-review folder location, pointing to the exact same actual network folder.  The only thing different between the two connections is the descriptive names attached to the connections, which appear in the drop-down list of locations.  The original connection's descriptive name is "Acrobat Server" (named by one of my colleagues) and the new one I left unchanged from the default descriptive name "My Network Folder".  This new shared-review PDF works fine, so I know that access to the "meta" folder is fine, but how can I fix the older review PDFs?
A workaround for my problem is therefore to re-post all the currently active shared-review PDFs, using the "My Network Folder" connection, and then copy the XML files to the new PDF.  I just tried it, and it works, but that's only a practical workaround to fix the 10 to 15 recently posted review PDFs, and it'll only work if people still have the original PDFs they posted.  All the older review PDFs will still be read-only.
Also, does anyone know how to remove a folder location so that only the one that works appears in the drop-down list?
    Updates:
    1) The above workaround only works for me.  Other reviewers still cannot access the new PDF.    So I don't have a valid workaround after all.
    2) One more thing: if I try to post a new PDF using the old location "Acrobat Server", it fails at the step where it tries to create the XML file and folder.
    3) Earlier, I also tried creating a new shared-review folder location in another directory, and I noticed that the metadata folder was not shared.  So maybe I don't need to share the "meta" folder after all, and maybe something changed in our corporate network overnight?

    Thank you for your answer.
I have narrowed my problem down to a connectivity problem with the comment server.  We have Acrobat 8 installed on a machine named "acrobat".  On the acrobat machine, the shared-review PDFs are stored in a folder named "documents".  Each member of our team has a subfolder within the documents folder.  i.e. this structure:
    documents
         john
         jane
         david
         amy
The comment server XML files are stored in a folder named "meta", at the same level as the above name folders:
    documents
         john
         jane
         david
         amy
         meta
When we send documentation out for review, we send reviewers a link something like "\\acrobat\john\123_review.pdf".  Reviewers are able to open the PDF, but they get an error message saying "Adobe Reader cannot connect to the Review Server: acrobat".
I believe that the message means that Reader is not able to find the comment server in the "meta" folder.  But the meta folder is definitely there, and is write-accessible for everyone.  Any user on our network is able to manually open the meta folder, create a new file inside the folder, edit and save that file, delete the file, etc.
These pdfs that no longer work, always used to work.  I had changed permissions on the meta folder, but after people reported connectivity problems, I changed the permissions back to full control for all users, and even added more users with full control, but people still can't connect.  What I need is to find out where these PDFs are looking for the comment server.  It looks like they're looking in the correct place: the acrobat machine, but maybe inside the PDFs, the comment server location is stored in a certain way.
Another thing: when anybody tries to initiate a shared review, the process fails at the point where Acrobat 8 tries to create a comment server folder.  The person who set up Acrobat 8 for us also defined the shared-review location for us (a drop-down box containing all locations appears in the first or second screen of the dialog box when you initiate a shared review.  Only one location appears for us: the location defined by that person, and it's named "acrobat server").  But I don't know how to find out what that shared-review location is. Acrobat 8 lets you remove a location, but doesn't let you edit it.  If I could see what the location is, I could see if the path is somehow defined irregularly.  e.g. without the fully qualified domain name or something like that.
I subsequently added another location, "my network folder", and pointed it to the same meta folder.  The "my network folder" location works for me.  I can post a shared review, and it connects to the comment server properly.  But this works only for me: when other users open that same shared review pdf, they get the "cannot connect" error message above.  Again, if I could see explicitly how "my network folder" is saved in Acrobat, and also see how the PDF file has stored that location, I could see if there's a mismatch.

  • Shared Reviews on SharePoint 2010 Won't Open on 11.0.09

Does anyone else run shared reviews on SharePoint 2010?  Since the 11.0.09 update shared reviews will not open in IE 10 or 11 causing a fault in it's Data Execution Prevention.  Our marketing team is up in arms at this point as our help desk has to consistently go and remove Acrobat and reinstall it back to some prior version.  Inevitable though, someone will take the update again and bring things to a crashing halt.
Our network team is unwilling to disable DEP so I've found some articles on how to have them disable Acrobat updates through group policy.  Adobe just seems to be ignoring this so I'm not sure I have any alternative but thought I'd ask first, if anyone else is having this issue and been able to find another way around it?
Otherwise disabling updates seems to be our only option but that means locking them down to the original purchased version.  Not ideal but it's essentially where we are today anyway.
    Thanks.

  • Shared Review problem for remote review SME

One of my SMEs works offsite via a VPN connection. When she tries to participate in the shared review process from the PDF location on the network drive, she has display problems (all the text is highlighted in black) and she can't "connect" to see other's comments. The PDF displays fine if she downloads it to her hard drive she can see shared comments but of course is then unable interact with the shared process.
She's developed an elaborate and time consuming work around, but I need a solution for her problem. She's using the current version of Reader and I'm generating PDFs using Acrobat 9 Pro Extended.
This is not an issue for any of my other offsite SMEs.
    Thoughts?

What are the instructions for Acrobat Pro v11.0.10?
There is no option to save as "Archive copy" only "PDF-X/A" but that returns an error that it can't be saved.
All instances of Shared Review sessions have been removed from the the "Tracker..." dialog, but I am still getting server pings. By all rights, there should be no more pings to any server. When I am actually in my network where the server is visible, Adobe is connecting without my permission.
How can I get the server pings to completely stop in Acrobat Pro v11.0.10?

  • Shared Review: Synchronization issues... Help!

    Hi!
    Context:
We make extensive use of Adobe Acrobat for shared reviews using email attachments and links.
A couple of writers in the team have upgraded to use Adobe Acrobat XI Pro with others using Pro 9.
Our shared email reviews make use of an internal web server folder
    Problems:
During a recent trial using PDFs sent as links, we have encountered a significant number of cases where comments were:
    a) Not visible to all reviewers/initiator.
    b) Visible to the reviewer adding the comment, but not visible to others.
    c) Lost to all users.
Note, that we experienced the same issues when using PDF sent as email attachments.
In most instances, we have been able to access the internal web server folder and see the review PDF with associated XML review files, using Windows Explorer or a Web browser. However at times we have also lost review comments, where the XML files were not created.
We have a number of reviewers that work from various locations and connect using VPN and the local network. In all situations, the Web server folder can be accessed and updated by the user.
Whilst different connections may cause problems for Adobe Acrobat, we have experienced situations where:
    The Publish button was clicked
The PDF was closed and no warning was given that review feedback was not saved in the Web server folder.
    Related Issue from 2010:
In my search for answers, I came across the following entry from 2010, that refers to Adobe Acrobat Pro 9:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/3325019#3325019
Today, I opened a review file with review XML files visible in the Web server folder, however Adobe Acrobat XI PRO did not display any comments.
However, after removing the contents of the \AppData\LocalLow\Adobe\Acrobat\11.0\Synchronizer\resources folder,  Adobe Acrobat displayed all comments as expected.
    Solution ?
I cannot expect all initiators and reviewers to clear down the \synchronizer\resources folder on a regular basis to clear out issues with the files created by Adobe Acrobat.
Similarly, I cannot expect reviewers to restrict working on shared reviews to when they are directly connected to the office network rather than via VPN.
The "solution" presented in the above entry suggests a temporary workaround, however, given that the entry was reported 3 years ago with Adobe Acrobat Pro 9, I am concerned that this issue continues to persist through to Adobe Acrobat XI Pro!
Can anyone suggest a more permenant solution to the problems above?
    Just a thought...
Is it possible and straightforward to switch off the Adobe synchronizer?
What would be the impact of switching off the Adobe synchronizer?

    Hi there,
I am having a similar problem, wherein I could not reliably retrieve comments on a PDF for which I was the review initiator. It seemed I had fixed the problem by manually deleting all the resource files. I was able to reply to comments and publish new comments. However, now I am not able to retrieve my own comments, nor can anybody else (other non-reviewers) see the comments I published.
I am looking at the XML files on our server that hosts our PDFs and there is one XML file that I believes pertains to the comments I made and published.  However, it is empty of comments. I'm pretty desperate to retrieve these comments, as they represent a day or so of work for me and other innocent third parties.
Is there any other way to retrieve these comments? I have a bunch of deleted "resources" files from last week, I'm wondering if there is any way to force-sync to one of these resource files?  Might the resource files contain my comments?  I can't accept that the comments are just lost in the ether when I was getting "successfully published" messages from Adobe each time I clicked "publish comments."
Another thing to note:  Every time I open the "_review.pdf" file, the "Welcome Back to Shared Review" screen shows a different server name in the "Review Server" line.  That seems a bit troubling, no?  Is it possible that my XML files are stored on a different server than the server that hosts the PDF file?  In which case I can troll through all of our servers for the XML files that contain the missing PDF comments?
    Help help please help.

  • Shared Review: Can't Check for New Comments or Publish Comments

I am having a problem with a network file share (SMB) Shared Review.  I am not able to Check for New Comments or Publish Comments.  When I click those buttons all I get is the green circle continuously spinning forever.  Other members of my team are able to check for and post new comments.  I am able to connect to the SMB file share outside of Acrobat just fine.  I am using Acrobat Pro XI with the latest update 11.0.03.

    Try the following steps :
    1. Keep the review file closed and remove the review enty from the Tracker. For this "Go to View->Tracker. Choose the review file under the Review->Joined node and from right click options choose 'Remove review from Tracker'."
Note: Do not remove the reviews which you had initiated i.e. those under Sent node. Otherwise, the review will removed from the server also.
Alternatively, you can delete the Collab and Synchronizer folder from the following location:
    /users/+username+/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Acrobat/+version+/
    2. Sign out from Adobe.com comment. For this "Go to Preferences->Adobe Online Services". and click sign out.
    3. Now open the review PDF again and login with the correct credentials.
Hope, this will resolve your issue.

  • Acrobat Shared Review Problem

One of my offsite SMEs cannot view PDFs I generate for Acrobat shared review. None of my other offsite SMEs report the same problem and all access the network using the same VPN. In her case, the PDF displays with the text blacked out (as though it's highlighted) and she's unable to connect to view existing shared comments or to add her comments. She's developed a work around (saving files and opening them from her hard drive), however, this removes her from the shared review process.
She uses the most current version of Acrobat Reader and I generate my PDFs using Acrobat 9 Pro Extended.
    Thoughts?

    A couple of questions:
    1. Is she able to see the file contents if she chooses to work offline in the shared review by selecting 'Work Offline' option from the yellow colored bar on top in the shared review when opened in Reader?
    2. Does this occur with every shared review file that she is opening or with some specific PDFs only?
    3. Which Reader version does she have?
    Thanks,

  • Shared Review of Forms

I briefly searched for this topic with no hits.
I created a form from a word document and added one dynamic control: a button to clear all the form fields.  The remainder of the form is composed of text fields and checkboxes.
I am using Acrobat 9 Pro (Version 9.3.2).  When I use the 'Send for Shared Review...' command, I send to reviewers in a message as a link.
The copy of the document that reviewers open, doesn't display the form fields and enable reviewers to use them.  I performed an 'Examine' document and it finds all the form fields in the Navigation Panel, but I can't figure out why they aren't visible.  I checked all form fields' properties, and all are visible.  I can use the form before I send it for review, but somehow sending it for shared review is changing something about the display of the form fields.
Anyone seen this and resolved it?

  • What's with removing the reviewer's option to view in cloud?

We've come to count on sending files for shared review in the Acrobat.com cloud system. There's been an abrupt change in the automated file handling for shared reveiw that is creating confusion and aggrivating connectivity problems. Now, when I send a file out for shared review, the viewer is welcomed with a screen that only has the "Download" button showing. The "Open" button is no longer available. Usually reviewers go directly to the cloud pdf to make edits and publish. The reviewers only download to their desktop at the end of reviewing/commenting, and just as an option.
This has created a problem of lost comments because of connectivity errors when the reviewers try to publish comments from the pdf that was saved to their desktop.
Is the removal of the "open" button -- which goes directly to the cloud something done deliberately and we weren't notified? What can we do to get it back?
Do other's have the connectivity problems? This new requirement to work from the desktop .pdf has meant some comments won't be published!
    Please advise.
    Thanks!

I am having the same issue. I have used this feature in the past with no trouble and now my reviewers do not have the Publish Comments as an option. I am in a panic! How can we get the Publish Comments feature back to my reviewers?

  • Shared Review on Windows 8.1 Touch

I have a shared review using Acrobat.com's service that I created using Acrobat Pro 11 on my Mac.
I've sent the review out and had no problems except for one person that is using a Windows 8.1 Tablet that utilizes the new Reader Touch app.
It doesn't look like there is a "publish new comments" or a "check for updates" button in the app. How can that person see other people's comments and publish his own?
Is there somthing in the Reader Touch app that we're missing or can he download another desktop reader version?
    Thanks

  • Adobe Pro 9 Shared Review Issues

I have run into an issue with a "Shared Review" on a document.  I am using Windows 7 Pro SP1; Dell Vostro 260, Processor i3-2120, 8GB RAM, 64 Bit OS. Adobe Pro 9 is the Adobe product that I am using to initiate the review process. The document was on the company server with an original copy in another folder for back-up purposes.  So that means I had the original in one folder and the document for review in another.  Now here is the problem, I went to the document that was designated for review:
    Adobe Pro 9
    1. Opened Document
    2. Comment - "Send for Shared Review"
    3. "Pop-Up" appeared "Send for Shared Review"
    4. Under "How do you want to collect comments from your reviews?" Selected "Automatically collect comments on my own internal server"
    5. "Where would you like to internally host your shared review file", Selected "Network Folder"
    6. Selected folder from appropriate network folder
    7. Attached names for reviewers
    8. Each reviewer entered and no problems there
Now upon working along through other PDF documents one of my co-workers noticed that every PDF document that was opened anywhere on our internal server has the "Shared for Review" integrated somehow. How do I go about fixing this issue? This is going to cause major issues on our internal server for this to be the situation.
Also how do you remove the track for review from a document?  This is being asked since the share for review has attached even to my original document and I cannot change it.

Obviously there were no answers to this issue. In reading this was an ongoing issue that has yet to be resolved within Adobe. It appears to go back several years with numerous threads on very similar issues. Does Adobe just not care about this that anyone can see. As a small business the constant upgrading is very inefficient cost wise.

  • Shared review safety?

If I post my document on acrobat.com for a shared review, is it secure?Should I be worried if I have sensitive information that is in my document?
what kinds of security measures are in place?

What happens when the review is over, does or can the document get  deleted from acrobat.com?
You may remove the document from the server at any time, and it will no longer be available on Acrobat.com to you or anyone else.
If is does get deleted, is there a way  to save the final review document down locally?
You may certainly download the document to your computer at any time, using the "Download" button in the upper-lefthand part of the screen.
Please note that Acrobat.com does not currently support dynamic commenting on PDF files; you may only share comments on documents imported to or created in Buzzword (also on Acrobat.com). To comment on a PDF, you need to use the desktop version of Acrobat.
To do the live collaboration, do you have to host the document  on acrobat.com or can you also do that if the document is on a  shared network folder?
I'm afraid I don't know what you mean here - the document that you upload to Acrobat.com can be shared with a number of people, all of whom will be able to view the document (and able to download it if you allow them to). When you upload a PDF to our servers, it is not meant to be edited or commented on, but simply viewed and shared; at this time, like I mentioned above, reviewers may read the PDF, but not edit it.
I hope that this helped to clarify the ways in which you can use Acrobat.com to review PDFs collaboratively. Although you can't use the PDF viewer to comment on the file, you can certainly create a document in Buzzword (to which you can provide access to everyone involved) that contains your notes.
    Take care,
    Rebecca

  • Ending a Shared Review Prior to Deadline

We have recently been testing the shared review feature.  I am running 8.0 Pro. and am the initiator of the Reviews.  I was wondering if there is a way to End / Finalize a Review and globally remove it from the review tracker for all participants?  Thank you for your time.

Tracker is used to track all projects that you've initiated. You could Open the review file from Tracker by right-clicking on it in the left-hand panel. Once it is open in Acrobat, you can select Save As Archive Copy from the File menu -- then you can delete it from Tracker.

  • How can I see shared review comments in a PDF when connected to a SharePoint server over a VPN?

I am using Acrobat Pro XI on Windows 7.
When I issue a shared review, hosted on our work SharePoint server, I always encounter problems when accessing my work network from home, over a VPN. My comments do not get published, and I cannot see comments that reviewers have published.
I issue the review PDF as an attachment when I open the review, and all reviewers save a local copy of this file. When I open the PDF, the "Welcome back to shared review..." screen is never updated with the number of comments. The server status always seems to show green, but the comment reporting mechanisms do not behave as they do at work. When I click Publish comments, I am usually asked if I wish to take ownership of unpublished comments by other reviewers (to which I click No). When I return to the office, everything seems to "just work" again. But this is hugely inconvenient if I am out of office for days on end.
I had this problem with my previous version of Acrobat, and no satisfactory solution was ever reached. I am most dismayed to find it is still present in version XI.
    Please can anyone advise?

I don't know if you solved this issue yet. But we have the same issue in the pass, and clean the log files under "\Synchronizer\resources\" folder seems to be a solution. Here is the thread talking about it.

  • Unable to see other writer's checked check boxes in comments of shared review

I'm using Acrobat 3D Version 8 in a Windows XP environment.  We are using SharePoint for shared reviews.
We are able to see developer's comments, and we can respond back to the comments with a reply.  However, when we use the checkbox to indicate that a comment has been addressed, each writer can only see the checkmarks that she makes.  We cannot see checkmarks made by other writers.
We have tried selecting the check box, and we have also used the check box icon to select the check box.  We then publish and the the action is accepted as a comment and is published.  But we are unable to see each other's check boxes.
    Why?
    Thanks!

    Solved on my own.
Simply close BEx Analyzer and restart it again. If still it doesn't work then restart your computer and then run BEx Analyzer again, it will definitely work.
