Remove spellechecker dictionaries in Firefox

Hello community,
I need spellchecking in three languages in Firefox: English, German and Russian. Thus I installed the appropriate hunspell packages extra/hunspell-de, extra/hunspell-en and aur/hunspell-ru. But unfortunately each of them seems to include quite many different dictionaries, thus the language list is quite long (and sorted in a strange way):
Such a long list makes switching to the needed language a bit uncomfortable, so I'd like to have only three entries, one for each language.
I couldn't find any way to remove unnecessary dictionaries though. Does anyone know how to edit this dictionary list?
Thanks in advance,
PhotonX

The problem is that hunspell is also used by LibreOffice and if I remove the hunspell dictionaries then I won't have spellchecking in LibreOffece. Of course there are downloadable dictionaries for LibreOffice as well, but I'd prefer using the hunspell ones, just remove the unnecessary entries somehow.

  • How to remove plugin container in firefox 14.0.1?

Is there a way to remove plugin-container in firefox 14.0.1? Any extra process is unacceptable and I've always had plugin-container remove before. But from what I read it is needed to run the newest flash, so can gives us a option to automatically close the plugin-container after you have played a flash video, I hate to manually shut it down every time. OR embed the plugin container into firefox.exe so thats it isnt another process.

disaster, thanks firefox 1 year of photos lost

Thanks for the obvious question. I mean it. The very same thought came to me this morning and, sure enough, I had booted into another drive--my old one that, of course, had the old desktop, etc.
It didn't dawn on me that this was the case since I hadn't set it as a boot drive but I guess in the course of all the restarts I did, it got switched.
    I'm back to normal again.

  • How to remove auto start of firefox plug in page

    1) how to remove auto start of firefox plug in page. we do not want this site to open when openning firefox.
    2) we proceeded with a few updates as requested, but firefox did not show the update once complete-still said need to update.

First of all your Flash plugin is out of date: Use Adobe's own page to test your version of the plug-in and to update it www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ -- evidently the same information is not getting to the Mozilla plug-ins test. That might fix your problem if your home page uses Flash such as a news site.
Find updates for installed plugins at www.mozilla.com/plugincheck/mozilla.com/plugincheck
plugin page keeps coming up: see https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/832793 particularly the replies near the end (different replies for different users).

For some websites that I visit every day, it is a pain to have to log in every time. (e.g., Zap2it, which provides TV listings in your local area). However, I like setting Tools/Options/Privacy to keep all cookies until I close Firefox. I would like to be able to configure Firefox so that all cookies would be removed EXCEPT those I specify. If I could do this, I would not have to log in every time.

You can't use [[Clear Recent History]] if you want to keep specific cookies by setting an exception.
"Clear Recent History" is all or nothing.
You can let the cookies expire if you close Firefox if you need to preserve specific cookies.
Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Keep until": "I close Firefox"

  • How do i remove search-gol from firefox?!! It is not in addons or extenstions and I am worried to reload firefox as i dont want to lose faves or current session

I always use Google as my firefox search engine.
However i must have accidentally downloaded a file that has now set up search-gol as my search engine and i want to get rid of it.
Info to do this strangely doesn't appear anywhere on google searches.
Mozilla says to go into addons/extensions etc but the search engine isn't listed anywhere.
I have also unistalled any programmes that i have recently downloaded but this search-gol think won't go.
I am worried about uninstalling firefox and reinstalling it as i have about 500 favourites and i don't want to lose them and my current browsing session.
Can anyone tell me how to get rid of this annoying search engine rubbish?
    Thanks

    Follow the removal guide here:
    http://deletemalware.blogspot.com/2013/10/search-gol-removal-guide.html
You don't need to reset Firefox, just remove the preferences associated with SearchGol.
And don't forget to scan your computer with anti-malware software.
    Cheers!

  • How do I remove appshat when resetting firefox doesn't work???

  • Why not remove safari from OSX, Firefox and Chrome have surpassed it completely in functionality and usability?

To be honest the whole safari thing is always going to be a running joke to everyone.
Safari cant play embedded videos or loads of the content on youtube because of Apple insistence to lock it to only use thier version of flash, why not remove it all together and have a browser choice like Windows has this would at least give the users a chance to get a browser that is fully functional?

This one fails in Safari with 'This video is currently unavailable' here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ievjHzSB_ek
    This one works: http://www.youtube.com/user/RockstarGamesGB?v=kDk1eOflyCk
It seems certain videos still fail in safari but run perfectly in Firefox, Chrome, Opera heck even the browser I coded myself works fine.

  • Remove Mozilla Suite, Keep Firefox 2.x

    Hello,
Sorry if this is a n00b question, but I want to remove the Mozilla browser and Thunderbird from JDS3 on Solaris 10 8-07 SPARC (fully patched) without ruining the Firefox 2.0.0.4 install (pdf, flash, defaults expected by JDS etc.). Any special instructions? The /var/sadm/pkg/.../depend files say flash and acroread plugins are dependent on SUNWmozilla. I have limited disk space (2 18 g drives) and can't just leave it hanging around eating 200mb of space. Does Firefox use its own plugins or share them with Mozilla? (Why doesn't Mozilla just go away? :)

How does does this relate to Java Programming?
Perhaps you can post a section of your Java code to illustrate the problem.
This may be a bug in Firefox, perhaps it is time to update to v3.0.3 or later [http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/]

  • How to remove ICQ Search from Firefox

Are you an ICQ-user? Have you ever wanted to have your own search engine instead of theirs? Even when you uninstall the ICQ Search Toolbar in "Add/Remove Programs", delete the extension in Firefox's Add-ons and restart your browser, it still not completely gone! You may not have noticed this, but the simple reason is that ICQ.com doesn't actually care what people do and don't want running when you install their instant-messaging software onto your computer...
Luckily, you're not alone in this regard and there is a solution if you follow these instructions carefully:
    1) Type in the address bar "about:config" (without quotes). You will receive a warning here about changing advanced settings, so don't uncheck the box and just click the button to proceed.
    2) In the filter bar, type icq and press enter.
    3) Change the '''browser.search.defaultenginename''', '''browser.search.defaultengine''' and '''browser.search.order.1''' to Google.co.uk
    4) Change '''keyword.URL''' to http://www.google.co.uk/#sclient=psy-zb&hl=en&source=hp&q=
This is the default string for a keyword search through the address bar in Google, but if you use another search engine, type a word into it and simply copy the string created for that, minus the word itself!
    5) Right-click to modify "extensions.testpilot.surveyAnswers.broken_extensions_survey" list and copy it to notepad.
    6) Delete the ICQ Toolbar Parameter -- carefully make sure you observe how each parameter is listed so you get it all.
    7) Copy and paste the new parameters list into the Modify box.
    8) Close all Firefox windows, and then open them again.
That's it! Unfortunately Firefox doesn't allow you to fully delete the ICQ parameters from the about:config area - perhaps that requires ICQ's uninstall, or a complete reinstall of Firefox - but with this information you should have your search engine back to normal.
Unless you properly know how the rest of those functions work, I also suggest you don’t modify them.

See attachment. Select Bueno search engine and click Remove.
If it keeps coming back you've probably got some unwanted program on your system. A scan with a good AV and a Malware scanner ([https://www.malwarebytes.org/ Malwarebytes]) is recommended.

  • HELP! How to remove Yahoo search from firefox 36.0.1? HELP!

I guess I made a big mistake upgrading to FireFox 36.0.1! Nothing but grief since trying to remove the Yahoo search from this version.
Didn't appreciate this version removing my default Home page tabs to use on startup. Looks like they are gone forever - not happy!
I have tried many if not all forms of advice to remove this yahoo search from my home page to no avail. I even uninstalled it and made sure I got a non Yahoo version from the Mozilla site. Still no help.
    1) I have tried changing keyword.URL via about:config - no help
    2) I have tried changing the Search - Change Search Settings - no help
    3) I tried bringing up a single tab with Google and using General options to Use Current Page - no help
    4) I tried the same using many other tabs without Google - no help
    5) I have removed Yahoo and others from the Search options - no help
    6) Uninstalled and reinstalled a "CLEAN" version from Mozilla site - no help
    7) Retried 1 thru 5 above again - no help
    8) Checked the Shortcut Target in Mozilla FireFox Properties - no help
Get the idea? No matter what, Yahoo comes back every time I open FireFox. Which means I cannot use a set of tabs as my default any more. WHY????
Looks like it may be time to severe my long time use of this browser since the beginning with NetScape in the earliest of days with PC's. Too Bad.

This worked. The problem is the user.js file was changed. See below:
    User.js file overriding preferences
If you don't have any of the above programs installed, or if you followed the suggestions and single preferences still aren't being saved, you may have to edit Firefox's configuration files yourself. Don't panic, it's pretty easy. Here's how to do it.
    Open your profile folder:
Click the menu button New Fx Menu , click help Help-29 and select Troubleshooting Information. The Troubleshooting Information tab will open.
Under the Application Basics section, click on Show Folder. A window with your profile files will open.
Note: If you are unable to open or use Firefox, follow the instructions in Finding your profile without opening Firefox.
Click the menu button New Fx Menu and then click Exit Close 29
Open the file user.js with a text editor (like Notepad).
If there is no user.js file, these steps won't help you.
Remove the lines for the options you want to be able to change. You can delete all the lines if you want to be able to change everything.
Save the file and close the text editor.
You should now be able to change your Firefox settings.
