Removing Win7 Partition - Regain Space

I had Windows 7 running in Parallels but removed them both.  This left me with a lot of unused space in that partition.
I'm trying to regain that space by stretching the MAC partition to encompass the whole hard disk (1.5TB).  I've tried
all of the included utilities, plus Tech Tool Pro 5, all to no avail.  When using Disk Utility, it just hangs there forever
"checking files".  I need a good hard disk utility that will perform magic on my hard disks like repartitioning, formatting,
etc.  I had all of this with a PC but not with my iMAC.  Can anyone recommend a good disk utility I could purchase that would
go in and remove any artifact files left over from my Parallels and Win 7 drive partition and allow me to regain that valuable
drive space?

never used parallels but with every other  virtualization program I've used such as virtualbox, wmware, ms virtual pc
the whole point was that they never did anything in terms of parition of the fysical disk the whole os install of linux or windows or... was 1 file (for each virtual machine) located on my osx parition If i deleted the file the os was gon
would be supriced if parallels requied users to mess with partitions on their fysical disk

  • Regaining lost space after error when removing Bootcamp partition?

I am running snow leopard 10.8.2 and had a bootcamp partition of 115gb for Windows 7. Recently I tried to remove the partition using the bootcamp assistant and it displayed an error message that it was unable to remove the partition, however the icon for the partition disappeared in finder and the startup disk menu. I tried to remove the partition again in the same way and this time the error message did not come up, but the utility froze while it was removing the partition and after waiting for an hour or so I had to force quit the utility and restart my Mac. The bootcamp partition doesn't show up, but I did not get the 115gb back? Any ideas how I can reclaim it? Any help is much appreciated!

Notice the 76GB Free Space in the diskutil cs list output.
Unless Kappy has alternative suggestion, I suggest the following (the last 'b' is bytes).
    diskutil cs resizeVolume <UseTheLongStringUUIDAboveTheMacintoshHDLine = DB68...> <UseTheSizeInBytesUnderTheLogicalVolumeGroupEntry = 250140434432b>
    diskutil cs resizeVolume
    Usage:  diskutil coreStorage resizeVolume
            lvUUID|MountPoint|DiskIdentifier|DeviceNode size
Resize a logical volume, which is one of one or more disks that consume storage
out of a logical volume group. The logical volume group will have more or less
available space after this operation, if it was a shrink or grow, respectively.
    Example: diskutil coreStorage resizeVolume

  • How to remove Win7 from my Dual-Boot?

    Hello,
i have a notebook with an Win7 and an Arch Installation.
My partition layout is: [Win7] -[ Win7Pagefile] - [Arch64 / (everything)] -[Swap] - [Datapartion with all the restGB]
Now that ive switched completely to Arch i didn need win7 anymore.
How can i remove the Win7 partitions so that arch is in front in the faster areas of hdd?
Even better: can i now split the arch partiotion into separate /boot, /home, etc.?
    Hope you understand my problem.
    Thank you!

    http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/GParted
I know GParted .... it had f****d my entire drive earlier. I only trust my paid Acronis Disk Director, but it dosnt handle my ext4 correctly, so it is no option for moving my Arch partition.
Grub2 is on my System the Bootloader, so i know there must be sometething been edited in the grub.cfg after partitioning for proper boot.
When i delete the Win7 Partitons under Windows and move the Arch in front, are the SD*-Numbers in Arch changing??
So, when i delete tbothz win7 partitions Grub2 shouls still be working as ive installed into MBR. I think then i only have to change the sda1... for a succesful boot?
Dumb thing ia: Win7 are primary partitions (both), then all others come in a big logical one.
Best advice I can give you: BACKUP your entire Arch64 partition to another drive.  Do the same w/ your data partition.  Nuke the ENTIRE notebook HDD, repartition it to your liking and copy back.  DON'T mess with expanding/shrinking partitions.
Having no Backup possibility due to the 2.5'' hdd in the notebook!

  • Cannot delete bootcamp partition/free space on HD (OS X Mavericks)

I am having trouble removing a bootcamp partition made a while ago. I thought removing this partition would be as simple as using disk utility to delete the partition, and extend the Macintosh HD partition back to its original size.
However, after clicking the minus sign using disk utility I am now left with 51.24GB free space where the bootcamp partition used to be and cannot seem to do anything to bring the hard drive back to one single partition.
I have tried using boot camp assistant, which is useless. I have to tick either "Install Windows 7" or "Download the latest Windows support software from Apple", and when I click to install windows 7 (which below says it can be used to remove an existing windows partition), it only lets me re-size the Windows partition to a smaller 20GB size. It does not give me the option to remove the partition like it says it does on the first page and like I have seen on examples online (which I am sure are from previous OS X versions).
I have tried going to disk utility when booting from the recovery disk, however this does not give me the option to erase the entire disk then start again from a time machine backup; it only gives me the option to erase my current 268.48GB Macintosh HD partition, which wouldn't be any use.
I have verified the disk and all seems ok. I am running OS X 10.9.1 on a mid 2010 Macbook Pro. 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB Memory.
Any help appreciated as I am running low on HD space on my mac and the extra 50 GB that I can't seem to free up would be very useful.

    Give this a try:
Install Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
    1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
    2. After DU loads select your external hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion. Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet
if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
This will install the default version of OS X that came with your computer if it came with Lion or later. If it came with Snow Leopard, then you must do this instead:
    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it.
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

when trying to remove a partition on my hard drive I got an error and the option was grayed out in boot camp assistant. error message:  "The startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored to a single partition.  startup disk must be formatted as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume or already partitioned by Boot Camp Assistant for installing Window".

  • Re-activate win7 partition

    Hello,
as using a lot my 2 OS, I decided to create a sharing partition on my disk for ma data, using G-parted. So I got :
    /OSX (OS)
    /NTFS SHARING (DATA ONLY)
    /WIN7 (OS)
after creating this partition, when I boot on the windows partition, he tells me "missing operating system"
Isn't there any other solution than reinstalling the whole thing ? just reactivate or redirect the partition in the GUID ?

In fact I've already tried with Ext3 and exFAT, but it didn't work. Even only erasing without creating a new partition doesn't work.
I already have the driver for read/write on NTFS

  • How to remove USB partition?

I have an 8GB flash drive which I use for my digital photo frame. I deleted all photos and reloaded more recent ones and once I placed the USB in the frame only old photos which I thought I had deleted appeared.
I then discovered that the USB has a partition that contained the older photos. I deleted these but the USB will only display photos in the one area which has very little space. How can I remove the partition or have the photo frame recognise the other much larger partition?
    Please help if you can.

    Hi budy,
You can change/edit the partition of USB and all other drives in Windows Disk Managment if you have Vista or Windows 7.
Here is a nice article that can help you do to this:

  • Unable to remove windows partition

    Hi:
I want to remove my windows/boot camp partition to free up space on my hard disk. When I launch Boot Camp Assistant to accomplish this, it gives me the error message, "The startup disk does not have enough space to be partitioned. You must have at least 10 GB of free space available." Well, thanks for the warning, but I want to REMOVE the partition and thus increase the available space on my startup disk. But Boot Camp Assistant will not allow me to advance futher, and I'm forced to quit. Ideas?

    David Anderson wrote:
No one has any ideas on this? Is it simply a case of terrible user interface design?
I have attempted to use Disk Utility to accomplish this task. It allowed me to delete the Boot Camp partition from my drive, but will not allow me to expand the Macintosh HD drive to use the entire hard disk. I keep getting the error message "Disk Utility was unable to verify the partition." I suspect this is because it was a Windows-formatted partition.
I have also deleted enough files from my drive so that there are 22 GB available, but Boot Camp Assistant still claims that I have fewer than 10GB available on the disk, and therefore refuses to show me the partition removal screen.
I'd appreciate any help that people might have.
Disk Utility is the wrong tool to use, it can (and will) cause problems. Backup your entire disk, erase and then restore it.

  • Failed boot camp install - how to remove windows partition?

    Hi There,
After a failed boot camp install, boot camp no longer sees (or can remove) a windows partition - Disk Utility can't seem to remove it and if I use:
    $ diskutil list
It shows up as partition 5 "Microsoft Reserved"
I also have a portion of free space that I can't seem to incorporate back into the main OSX partition - how do I remove the windows partition and make the drive a single OSX drive again?
Any help would be much appreciated
    Cheers

    - 10.9.3
    - Windows 8.1

Just incase others have this issue, this wasn't caused by using Disk Utility (Disk Utility couldn't remove the partition anyway) it was caused by repeatedly trying to format the Boot Camp partition using the Windows installer when Windows refused to install.
The solution is an Apple tech note (I can no longer find it sorry) that sates that no other hard drives besides the internal HD and the Windows USB flash drive can be connected while installing windows.

  • How to remove a partition of my hard drive

I have an old 2007 HP Pavilian DV6000 series with Windows Vista. At some point, one of my husbands friends had the bright idea to partition the hard drive and put Linux (Ubuntu) operating system on my laptop. I haven't used this laptop in a few years now because once he did that the laptop has been screwy ever since. I want to remove that OS and remove that partition. I don't have a recovery disc to do a factory reset, I've tried that and I've tried restoring to early point and nothing is working. So how can I un partition that part of the hard drive and remove that horrible OS?? Vista is still on there and I can still access Windows, but I just want my computer back to how it should be. Thanks!

  • How do you remove a partition

I created a partition using resizeVolume, and now I would like to remove it.
Is there any way to remove the partition with out reformatting the entire Volume, like you would do with disk utility?
The manual for resizeVolume kinda leads me to believe that there might be a way.
"Non-destructively resize a disk. You may increase or decrease its size.
When decreasing size, you may optionally supply a list of new partitions to create."
Or am I just misinterpreting what that means? Like does the increase volume size pertain only the the Volumes on the Disk, or could it mean that you could somehow increase it back to its original size while removing the created partition?

    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.

  • Where does my win7 partition go?

    Hello all,
I've used my MBP since 2011, I use auch both win7 and mac OS.
I've my snowleopard upgrated to OS X 10.9.1 later. The both systems work good.
Last week i tried to upgrade my win7 OS, because this one is not actived since it has been installed.
The system needs to restart, then i restart the machine. That's the time i got the problem.
Whenn the OS restarts, i press the option key to switch to Win7, but I got just EFI boot. After choosing the item, the screen stay for 30 minute with a symbel,  it's indicates that the OS works failed, then the machine is  power off.
I'm using the driversutilities under Mac OS to check the information of my drivers, find out that the size of the driver is right(320GB), but the partition(60GB) for win7 is totally gone. which means the partiton is invisable right now for Mac OS..
Can anybody tell me, what's going on here? How can I find back my losting Win7 partition or how can I find the driverspace of Win7.
    Any inputs will be appreciated!
    Jian

    Jian,
in the Finder, press Command-Shift-U to bring up the Utilities folder; run Terminal there. In the Terminal window, give it the following commands, one per line, ending each line by pressing the Return key:
    diskutil list
    diskutil cs list
    mount
Please include in your reply the full output from these commands.

  • Cannot remove bootcamp partition

Unable to remove Bootcamp partition using Bootcamp Assistant, which reports 'unable to partition drive' Drive is SSD

Using the  BootCamp Assistant is recommended because usually the correct way to remove your Windows partition is to use the BootCamp Assistant again which should give you the option to remove the made Windows partition and revert back to one OSX volume.
After that's done a reboot of your Mac might be advisable.
Only if that's not working (whatever the reason) :
    1) boot your Mac from your OSX install DVD
    2) choose your language and then 'ignore' (cancel) the installation
    3) from the Top Menu (Utilities) start Disk Utility (DU)
    4) in DU click on your harddisk (not any partition) in the left pane (the first item listed)
    5) in the right pane use the 'Partition'-Tab
    6) click to highlight on the ex-Windows partition you want to delete
    7) click on the small '-' Button at the bottom
That should delete your former Windows partition
    After that's done successfully
    8) Drag the partition separator line until it encompasses the entire drive and then select apply.
    9) Quit Disk Utility
    10) reboot your Mac from your harddisk.
Since you are 'fumbling' with your OSX partition you should consider having/making a backup of it before trying the a.m. procedure. Just in case.
    Stefan
