Render Options

Hi!
I need to import to FCE .avi files (video+audio).
Of course, when I drag them to the Timeline, the red bar indicates me they have to be rendered.
To render them all (so that I can work with this video and audio files): Sequence>Render All>Both.
And here is my question: is this sufficient to render every video and audio file in the Timeline? And do I need to check/uncheck some option like 'Needs Render', 'Rendered Proxy', etc...?
Thank you very much for your attention!
Moreno

That was really faster!
But I have difficulties with conversion parameters.
I opened the avi file in Streamclip, then I chose EXPORT TO QUICKTIME and the resulted .mov file does not have the audio.
I imported it to FCE and once in the Timeline red bars are still there.
Maybe I chose the wrong settings. For example, 'Compression' is automatically set to 'Apple Motion JPEG A' but maybe this is not right. How can I choose between the different possibilities? And then 'Quality' and 'Sound'?
Thank you!

  • Missing Render Options

I have just finished a composition, itself formed from multiple comps (see screenshot). When I put it in the Render Queue and select "lossless" to bring up the window with more options, I do not see all of them (e.g. FLV is missing, as are others). I tried rendering as Quicktime, but found that only the audio rendered. AVI produced a flickering green image.
    Help!

  • Use which render option from FCE4 to iDVD ?

    Hi guys,
I wanted to a make a DVD. I reckon using iDVD is the most convenient since it is free with my iMac purchase ...
So, in FCE4 I render using QUICKTIME MOVIE or QUICKTIME CONVERSION to get the mov files to export to iDVD ?
    Thanks

The QuickTime Movie option will produce an exact copy of your Sequence. You can choose to make the movie self-contained or a reference movie if you're short on space.
The QuickTime Conversion method is for when you need to compress the video for other forms of delivery (web, iPhone, etc).

  • Before render, option to warn user of pending warp stabilization of pre-analysed clips

Hi, I work with hours and hours of footage, and sometimes it is almost impossible to go through every clip and check if warp stabilizer needs more frames to analyse, as well as other affects that have a blue, red or green line across the clip which renders with the project in use.
I was wondering if there is a script/option that can warn a user before rendering a project that warp stabilizer needs frames to analyse as the ''Media offline'' warning that comes up when media is missing or misplaced?
Looking forward to any help as this can save me hours of time, I am sure users out there are eager to find a solution to this too.
    Thanks, Ckerux

I second this motion! would love to know if there's a way, or put in a request to add a feature for something to flag us that there are clips that need to be analyzed/re-analyzed.

  • What is the Render option in 3D for?

The images look the same to me before and after the render and it takes a long time to complete. Want is the reason for using this tool?

Rendering produces the highest quality version for output e.g. for web, print or animation projects.

  • All render options not working

    Hello -
I'm working on a large project and all has been going well.... all of a sudden my render isn't working. It just gives me an instantaneous flash of the status bar and then nothing. I need to render some audio. I tried to add audio that has already been successfully rendered to see if that worked, and it does not. Basically, I can render nothing further.
    Please help! Thank you.

Look at that. A slight adjustment of the mouse and all is well. This has to be the best thread in the entire discussion board. Thanks, Tom.

  • How do I pre-render only portions of the timeline or selected clips?

I'm switching from Vegas Pro to Premiere Pro. In Vegas, you select a portion of the timeline, then hit control-B and it pre-renders that segment.
In Premiere, you hit enter, but it doesn't pay attention to the selected clips, it just pre-renders the entire sequence.
This wouldn't be such a big problem except I'm managing projects that are fairly long, with 20-30 sequences and 20 or so nested sequences in each project and I'm switching between around 18 different projects for a series of 23 or so videos.
These vids are already taxing my system resources with only a few minutes or so (referencing about 80-120gb of source footage), but my office comp is kinda weak.
The problem is that when I pre-render a nested sequence and bring it back to the main timeline, I have to pre-render it *again* after making the next set of adjustments (ie color correction, transitions etc). Then I have to do it AGAIN when I copy it to another timeline for another similar project.
Every time, it can take as long as 15 or 20 minutes (my video card is an nVidia GTX 560 Ti, it has CUDA, but prem doesn't support it for some reason).
When my main timeline glitched out, forcing me to split into different projects, it took me almost 4 hours just to copy things into place with the additional 20 minutes to load the glitched file.
Then I had to go and pre-render everything again to work my edits back into place.
Even when everything is 90% correctly laid out, I still have to wait for the entire sequence to finish pre-rendering.
As above, in Vegas Pro, I just select a portion of the timeline and the pre-render sticks to that area.
I saw an article that said you could create in and out points and use that for rendering, but it doesn't seem to be a CS6 thing.
I heard that Adobe was trying to keep CS6 up to date as a parallel thing to CC. Surely I don't have to switch to a $600/year subscription just so I can pre-render portions of the timeline like a lower-end competitor program has had for something like 5 years...?
What am I missing? There has to be a way to do this simply.

    Are you sure?
I have only 3 options on my Sequence menu.
The first is: Render Effects in Work Area (default shortcut - Enter)
    Then: Render Entire Work Area
    and: Render Audio
No other Render options are available from that menu.
Oddly, those two things are virtually identical. One of them shows 52 clips, the other showed 57 clips. With 26389 frames (approximately...) ETA is around 20-25 mins. That's not very workflow friendly.
It is smart enough that if I pre-render once, making minor changes later makes for much less pre-rendering work, but because I'm working with so many similar projects and sequences, all of them end up needing to be completely re-pre-rendered even if I'm doing a copy-paste and I need to tweak a few little things in one area of the timeline.
This was especially evident recently when in a 3 hour period, I had to go through 4 revisions and needed to keep my original iterations because the person who made the broad, sweeping decisions was making really bad decisions and I knew I would end up going back to my original plan and making a few comparatively simple changes (which is exactly what happened right after the 3 hours).
Out of 3 hours, I could have lost a good hour and a half just waiting around for pre-rendering stuff that hard already been pre-rendered, but because it had been copy-pasted, Prem couldn't see those previous pre-renders.
I actually only lost around 40 mins. But I had to reshoot footage, including setting up lights and camera angles, plus import and do color correction again thanks to no round-tripping to speedgrade and having shot in other areas with those cameras...
If I had been doing it in Vegas, I would have spent only around 10 minutes doing those pre-renders. Oh and Vegas can use my GPU... I'm an Adobe guy mainly, so it's frustrating to see Vegas win on silly niggles like this.

  • Save/export PS animation as video; transparent areas always render as black?

    Hello all,
Thank you in advance for taking the time with this; I'm sure there's a very simple solution to this problem, and I've scoured all the help files and forums, and tried the suggestions, to no avail. Please help?
    Here's the problem;
I've created an animation in PS CS5, 139 frames, of a logo on transparent background. The colours (24 bit) within the logo change gradually during the animation. Each layer has transparent background, and I've saved an Alpha channel as well.
I want to save it as a video, so that I can use it in an interactive presentation that I want to create in InDesign.
Can't do it as an animated Gif; 256 colours dithered, don't look good, so I'm trying to export it as video (Quicktime) (-but if alternative is better, will try that!).
No matter what options I try, the transparent background always ends up as solid black in the video, either when played in QT Player, or when I convert it (with Media Encoder) to FLVorF4V and import it into InDesign. (InDesign seems unable to import Quicktime directly?)
...but I need the background transparent!?.
Amongst the many ways I've tried, I've tried the 'Help' recommended method:
"Render Video>Quicktime Export: Quicktime Movie> Settings: Animation / Millions of Colors+ / Quality=best, with Render options: straight unmatted
(& I tried all other options here).
    -but no luck.
I've read that InDesign can read PS files, so tried that as well, but only first frame comes in (or is it flattened?) either way, no layers.
Maybe it's my ignorance of CS5; I've been using Photoshop since it was born, but stuck at CS2 for past few years; CS5 is significantly different, and I'm new to video!.
...and am (trying) to learn InDesign & others in the CS5 suite.
Please (if you have the time) can anyone give me a step-by-step, total idiots' guide to the procedure; I just know I'm misunderstanding something, or just not getting someting that I should be doing.
-Whether I need to set up the PS file differently, or the animation pane, or the export video options differently, (or importing into InDesign) ...I'm at a loss.
Sorry, I'm new to threads, so don't know how else to include/post specs., so here they are:
    PC machine,
    Q9550 Intel processor, 8gb Ram,
    terabytes of disk space,
    dual monitors,
Win XP SP3/Win7 dual boot (but using win xp for this),
CS5 Design premium suite, latest updates installed.
(pls. tell me if you need any more info?)
...All this kit and I can't achieve this simple task!!
I might be out later, so please don't think I'm rude if I don't reply immediately to any respondents; I will get back as soon as possible, I do need to solve this, and very much appreciate any help offered.
    Many thanks!

    Hi Noel,
Thanks for your interest, sorry about the delay in me replying; I had to go out.
To answer your questions, perhaps if I describe the way I want to use it in Indesign?
The logo is a hard edged shape, in which colours smoothly and continuously change/animate, which is why I need it to be video, rather than a static image, eg. tiff/png which of course would be simple.
The area around the logo needs to be transparent, as I want to be able to move it around on screen, over changing backgrounds, pictures and graphics (that are themselves animated within InDesign, using motion paths etc.).
I don't want a black or white rectangle to be around the logo, as this would obscure some of what's behind it.
I know this (the logo with transparent background) can (somehow!) be done as a flash video, as similar stuff is used on the web all the time.
For instance, little smiley-faces or graphics (or video!) that bounce up and down in web pages to get your attention; they're usually animated gifs or flash, and they don't have black or white rectangle containing the shape. Not a great example, but you get what I mean?
Does this explain better what I'd like to achieve?
Indesign does provide guidance; it says to import flash videos with an alpha channel (for the transparency)...which is what I've been trying to do!!!
I created the animation in photoshop, but photoshop can't export to flash.
So I have to export to Quicktime movie, then convert that to flash, using the Adobe Media Encoder program.
I think that's where the problem is happening; despite trying all and any of the options to do with alpha channels in this program, I still get black background around the logo video.   ????
Thank you for any help/advice you can offer!

  • Help with render settings in Speed Grade

Ok, I have been using Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, and Illustrator for a while and have a good work flow using them. Now I want to add production value to my work. I just started using Speed Grade a few days ago and I am impressed with what it can do. I need help. Here is my problem: Creating a usable render.
    My work flow:
All my footage is shot on Canon 7D cameras at 23.976 1080p
I import my footage to Premeire Pro and edit my sequences
I then export my combined sequences to either: H.264 for bluray or Mpeg 2 for DVD
I then create a Disc Menu ect in Encore and export as a Disc Image and burn my discs
What I would like to do is add Spped grade coloring in my work flow.
I know how to export my edited sequences in Pre Pro for Speed Grade (SG). But After I get the sequences to SG: how and what settings should I use to render out and then go to Encore to create my Disc Images?
Every rednering setting I use has not worked. Both Quick Time and Microsoft Media Player say they can not play the files I render out.
What is the best way to do this? Thank you.

Thank you for the reply. I will give that a try. But, I do find Speedgrade's render options rather confusing. What if I make a project in After Effects, let's say a time lapse and after I've built my project and timed my shots to a sound track ect. I want to improve the color in speedgrade. After applying my color correction in SP how would I ecport it to be playable on QuickTime or Windows Media player?

  • Color Won't Render QT File

New to Color, I'm trying to Render prior to sending back to FCP a graded .MOV file, but it doesn't show up in the Render Queue. This file was originally a Twixtor re-timed sequence I made a QT file out of, since Color doesn't recognize filters like Twixtor.
How do I get it to show up in he Render Queue?
    Thanks in advance!

Go into the Setup Room/ Project Settings pane and within the render directory selection option, navigate to wherever you would like to have the media rendered. You can choose to create and select a new folder within this dialog. Make sure all your other render options are confirmed (codec, etc.). At that point it should be active and you should now be able to load the Renderqueue and execute.
It is very important to designate the render directory and codec prior to loading the Renderqueue, so that the return XML "Send To" command points to the correct directory.

  • Can you permanently fix or render audio so it can be moved?

I'm trying to add 2 audio tracks to a sequence to make a total of 4 audio tracks. Every time I move one of these audio tracks, I have to render it again to find out what I have, else I get a bunch of beeps. Is there a way to render or import audio files so they will stay rendered? Or so they don't have to be rendered to play correctly? I haven't found an answer in the "Help" section.
    Would appreciate comments.

I think I may have found the answer to at least part of the audio problem. I started a new test project and captured 2 files with stereo audio. I did this with Easy Set Up DV NTSC, which give 48 k audio. When I put these files on the timeline one after the other, they played ok. When I moved the audio of one of the files below the other, all of a sudden I was in a render situation but none of the Render options would work.
I went to Menu>User preferences>general>realtime audio mixing and selected 4. Now the audios will mix and can be moved and rendering is not required. Is this the complete answer?
    Would appreciate comments.

  • Missing render file/project will not render

I'm new to using FCE - just got my iMac with FCE pre-installed a few weeks ago - and have run into a big problem with current project. When I open the program, it tells me one render file is offline and I can reconnect or continue. I have no idea where the file could possibly have gone, so I select 'continue'. But now the project will not render. I have four sequences open in the project file, and have tried everything - locking and unlocking tracks, selecting various combinations of render both, render all, render selection, rendering only audio or video, etc. All the appropriate render selections are checked in every option. But still, the project won't render any of the sequences; the render box comes up for a split second and goes away faster than the eye can follow. I've tried setting the scratch disk; that didn't help. I tried saving the project, closing and opening the project, etc. Nothing helps. It just won't render. Does anyone have any idea how I can fix this problem?

When I say it won't render, I literally mean nothing happens when I hit the render command. I see the red timeline render bars. However, I see them only when I go to export the video as something else - a mov, dv stream, etc. In the project while working, there's nothing indicating render is required.
To try and solve this problem of the missing audio clip, I opened a new project and imported the .mov file I was working with initially, which theoretically should have all its parts intact. I made the necessary modifications to the file (essentially starting all over) and then attempted to render. It still won't render. Nothing happens at all when I click any of the render options, even after I've made modifications to the video that would clearly require render - changing the aspect ratio and applying a widescreen video filter. So the program should recognize the changes and render, but nothing happens, whether I choose render from the menu or hit the keyboard shortcut.
I'm a little hesitant to try scrapping the preferences as suggested above, but I am totally perplexed.

  • After Effects Render H.264 Warning

    Hello,
I am trying to build an animation for an airport signage display. Here are the specs 3240 x 3840 Resolution, 10 secs, must be a H.264 MOV file.
I built everything in After Effects and go to render. When I select the H.264 Render option I get a warning on the box in the bottom left corner that says "Warning: Ouput file will be resized from 3240 x 3840 (1.00 PAR) to 3240 x 2360 (0.97 PAR to meet format contrains.)
How can I render at H.264 and keep the resolution the same?

3240 x 3840 exceeds the maximum data rate allowable by H.264 at Level 5.1. After Effects is resizing your rendered comp to fit it into the allowable size.
H.264 limits the frame size and the frame rate you can use. Higher levels allow higher limits.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H.264/MPEG-4_AVC#Levels
You won't be able to create a video frame larger than 9,437,184 pixels (4096×2304 or another rectangle of equal area) with After Effects or Adobe Media Encoder. It's possible that another app may allow it, but there's no guarantee that such a file will play back correctly. I just skimmed the ITU-T H.264 white paper (see Appendix A.3), and there's not currently an allowance for higher levels in that format. It appears that H.265/HEVC allows higher levels.
You will need to use a different format. Are you sure that the playback device will accept a frame that large?

  • Premiere Elements 11 - poor render quality?

I was reading a review of Premiere Elements 11, and it was noted that PE11 had limited render options which can result in poor quality output files:
"Rendering quality is limited to the original format, which is usually consumer-grade and heavily compressed, so adding an effect can degrade the video quality in the final rendered version when viewed at full size, especially in fast-moving scenes. Changing the preferences to slower/better quality helps, but does not eliminate this problem."
    http://www.techhive.com/article/2010628/review-adobe-premiere-elements-11-offers-an-easy-f ast-and-simple-take-on-video-editing.html
Does anyone have any feedback on this? Are the rendering options limited?
I am currently downloading the trial to test it. I tried using the "Adobe Download Assistant" but the download speed was poor, so I had to switch to a scene release on a filehosting site instead (good one Adobe).
    thanks

Another season, another review, and again far from the facts. This is only slightly better than the outright dubious ones by some weirdos in the previous releases!!
I have just downloaded the trial version and have done "rendering" and "export" and so I have no clue what he is talking about!! I tried an AVCHD clip and changed the opacity so that it requires rendering. I also added Guassian Blur to get it to need render (It used to be a Red line till PrE10, it is Yellowish now..). What I noticed was that the rendering happened very quickly and the rendered file was 1/2 the height and 1/2 the width. I find that verrrrry convenient, because when someone does rendering, it is because they want to have a quick look at how the composition looks like with their effects, titles, transitions, PiPs etc. It is done only to get an idea of what it looks like and is in no way related to how the exported output will look like. To get a preview of that this quickly is a good feature. Then I noticed an option in the preferences where they have given the option to change the render quality and hence speed back to the Full Quality - Slower Speed. but you know what? I don't think the reviewer is even looking at this.
What he means is the exported output. The ones under Publish/Share tab in PrE11. In my tests I find that the render quality has no impact on the exported quality. I exported it to a AVCHD-1920x1080-30p preset and I found it to be just as good as it was in PrE10. Same file size and same bit rate, just to confirm. "Rendering is limited to the original format.." What does he mean? If he meant export, I can again confidently say that you can export the same AVCHD file to NTSC DV Standard, WMV (WMV9), QuickTime (MOV wrapper) and multiple other formats. The export presets can be chosen immaterial of the input videos/timeline. If he means rendering (The one where you hit "Enter" on the timeline), the format is and has been "All-I-Frame-MPEG2" - that is Fixed.
I can assure you that the quality of finished output has and will depend on the combination of choice of the file (it's properties), the project setting (that is automatic - again!), the export preset resolution and frame rate (choose this as close as the original for best results) and the bit rate (higher is better - mostly). And this is no different from PrE10, 9, 8, 7, ..... The very fact that PrE has been giving the user options and control and at the same time makes it easy for novices over the years, is good enough reason for me to continuously go for it.
