Rendering a 3 hour project

Just finished a 3 hour project in hd. Wanted to create a self contained quick time movie so I could burn using IDVD. Problem is now that it is rendering...it says 27 hours to render!!! Is there a faster way to just make a dvd? Love to hear some advice. THanks. I'm using a FCP 6.

ABSOLUTELY get those files off your system disk. you run the risk of completely confusing the OS and jamming up your machine to the point of a scorched earth reinstall.
Think about it: you're asking that poor little drive to run the OS, run the application, hold all the media files and handle the renders. Go out the door right now and buy the biggest fastest drive you can connect to your computer.

  • Chapters and Play all - how do I get this to work with a one hour project?

    Hi
I have a one hour project and at the moment I have it in one track with a Main Menu, Chapter menu and a bridge menu for the loop point.
I have 5 chapters and want 2 functions to happen in my DVD structure:-
    1. the Play All function
    2. and the Chapters to play each individual chapter and then go back to the Chapter menu when it;s finished.
As my project is now, the play all feature won't work, it is like it's the CHapter menu.
In the past I've had a track for the play all and then separate tracks for each chapter. Is there a way around this - do I have to do that fancy encoding (which I have no idea how to set up.
I have 5 chapters and would love some help to construct this as I don't think the 2 hours would fit on my single layer DVD and it would be a lot more exporting work.
    Hope you can help.
    Cheers
    Margie

You may want to use scenarios in this situation.
click the "add a scenario" button, an add as many scenarios as you have chapters.
Then double click on each scenario option.
You will see a list of chapter appear on the left of your timeline area.
Drag the chapter you want to play solo to the empty list on the right ("scenario markers").
Make sure you then select that chapter marker in the scenario Marker list, and choose "end jump: main menu". Also make sure that your gobal scenario end jump is set to your main menu too.
Then link you buton to that scenario and repeat for the other chapters.
    hope that helps.

  • "Deinterlace renders" effects a progressive project?

Does choosing the "deinterlace renders" selection inside the project settings tab have an effect on a project that is (was shot and edited in fcp) progressive? I shot my film using a JVC HDV camera in 25p mode, ingested and edited on fcp using ProRes 422 at 25p, and then sent to color for color correcting. I'm not doing the color correcting however, an operator is, and when she set up the project, she changed the quicktime export codec to Uncompressed 10 bit 422, and then checked the "deinterlace renders" box (she turned it on). The renders seem fine to me on the small monitor, however it will be transferred to 35mm film. I noticed that when I click and unclick the box in color, the shot which is selected changes slightly and I see a shift of movement in the parade and vector scopes. The operator insists checking deinterlaced renders does nothing to the images, and that she does that for every project she does... however... any other opinions on this? The manual says nothing on the issue. Thanks!

If you have 50 fields, then you are likely working in a "Segmented", not "interlaced" mode and that may explain why you see a little shift when checking the button. If the base video frame rate is 25, then each frame is still made of two components -- interlaced means they are temporally displaced, segmented means that although the frame was composed progressively, half of it is field 1 and the other half is field 2. You can get away with screwing up the dominance because there is no temporal displacement -- no one would notice if field 2 came before field 1-- there is no bouncing ball that would appear to stutter back and forth...
True progressive is actually still kind of rare, especially in tape formats.
Film isn't either progressive or interlaced -- it is the whole frame at a time as shot in camera.
A laser recorder does scan a progressive image onto intermediate or negative, and the CRT film recorders display whole-frame images through a progression of R-G-B filters. The lasers are better in my experience, both for consistent contrast and color accuracy.

  • Does saving video/rendering take 4 hours?

    Hi,
I just bought myself a brand new computer because I couldn't do anything with Adobe Premiere Elements 12 on my old computer.  Here is what I have on my new computer if this helps.  I am not a technical person so I have no idea anything about anything technical.
    Processor
    4th Generation Intel® Core i7-4500U (1.8 GHz 200 MHz 4MB)
    Operating System
    Windows 8.1 64
    Graphics
    Intel® HD Graphics 4000
    Memory
    4.0GB PC3-12800 DDR3L SDRAM 1600 MHz
    Hard Disk Drive
    Hybrid 500GB 5400RPM + 8GB SSHD
I am trying to do basic editing.  I have a bunch of little .avi files that I am trying to upload and edit into one long family video.  I've done that, edited out what I want.  Added some text title dates and I am rendering/saving as an MPEG file.
It takes 4 hours to render to an MPEG file?  OMG!  And then I wanted to eventually download it to a DVD.   Does it have to the the 4 hours over again?  And it's very slow.  Is it supposed to be so slow?

    descotes
I am not ready to go the route of "slow computer" yet to explain your 4 hour export time.
By basic editing, does that include effects additions such as Stabilizer?
Given you have Premiere Elements 12 on Windows 8.1 64 bit. That gives you a 64 bit application with the resource perks that come with 64 bit application in a 64 bit system. What are the properties of these .avi files that you are importing, and what are you or the project setting for the project preset?
Are you dealing with DV AVI standard or widescreen and, if so, type 1 or 2? What is the duration of the Timeline content that you are exporting Publish+Share/Computer/MPEG? And, what specific preset are you using? Are you using the default settings for the preset or customizing the preset under the Advanced Button of the preset?
My first instinct is to suggest 8 GB installed RAM instead of 4 GB, but I would prefer to see the information above first.
I noted that you said that you were not technically based. But, please try to answer the above as best you can. I will help you find the answers if necessary.
In all this, I am assuming that you are not multitasking while you are working with Premiere Elements export.
The export time is going to be influenced by the complexity of the Timeline and the state of the computer environment. Let us see if there is an alternative conclusion other than slow computer for your 4 hour export time when all the facts are in.
    Thanks.

  • Not rendering before making iDVD project

OK, by reading the post, it appears that the culprit for bad photo quality when making a photo slideshow in iMovie then going to iDVD is the iMovie render process.
So, when I hit the iDVD button is it OK to not render and make go right to iDVD?

    Hello NH Sullivan,
You've opened up a can of worms here! The images, when import into iMovie, are rendered as movie files, thus greatly reducing the quality of images. It is not iDVD that distorts the images. The best solution is to create a slideshow in iPhoto, export it to Quicktime and then import the slideshow into iMovie for titles and music. - Perfect every time!
iPhoto won't let you create a one photo slideshow. If you only want one image add the same photo twice to an iPhoto slideshow. You will have drag the image out of iPhoto and change the name. Then drop it back into iPhoto. Turn the Ken Burns effect turn Off and no transition you'll have a 6-20 second still (static) movie of your image that you can export to Quicktime and add to you iMovie project for editing without any compramise in image quality. You can make the two image slideshow as long as you want and cut the length down iMovie. You'll need about 6 seconds minimum to add transitions in and out.
    Have fun!

  • 2 hour project on 120min/4.7gb DVD

I have a two hour long project on FCP that I need to burn on one dvd that is 120min/4.7gb. I need to use compressor in order to achieve this. Can someone direct me to the process? Thank You

In FCP, go to File->Export->QuickTime Movie. You can choose to make the movie self-contained, or just a reference movie, but do NOT check the option to "Recompress All Frames." Include DVD Studio Pro markers if needed.
Add the resulting file in Compressor. From the list of presets, choose the DVD preset appropriate for your program's duration. Each preset folder will contain a preset for AC3 audio and MPEG-2 video. If needed, you can duplicate a preset then modify it to suit your needs. Once you've chosen the DVD preset and a destination, submit the job. When it is finished, you'll have two files; .ac3 audio and .m2v video.
Import the two files into DVD Studio Pro for authoring and burning.

  • General Error message when rendering after opening FCP4 project in FCP5

    Hi,
we're are having trouble with our FCP 4.5 project after opeining it in FCP5. When trying to render it comes up with "General Error" message and won't render the sequence. It also sometimes simply stops rendering without the message. Can anyone help? thanks

Update the version of FCP you're attempting to use as far as it will go for starters. There's no bug I know of that would cause this, so it's more likely an edgy media file getting in the way.
Try rendering just a section at a time and see if you can narrow down the files that may be causing your error.

  • Trying to Export my 1-1/2 hour project to iDVD

Lost the first attempt to create this one, forty hours..files accidentally lost, now all rebuilt and don't want to mess it up this time. Will appreciate your help very much.
I tried to export..chose Quicktime Movie...and having a few chapter markers, selected "Chapter Markers" (not knowing if just choosing the DVD pro markers works just as well). Took about thirty minutes to complete, but saw no file in my Movie folder that show a "Quicktime" file...instead saw the movie saved as a Final Cut Express Movie File. Maybe that's how it works, I don't know.
I opened iDVD to start the project, picked my theme...and when I dragged the movie over from my media...said this-
"Your project exceeds the maximum content duration. To burn your DVD, change the encoder setting in the Project Info window to Best Quality."
I looked to see where the export to Quicktime Movie gave such an option, that "Project Info Window" and appeared only the Quicktime Conversion option in exporting did. But so many options, filters, size stuff...over my head, and appeared to be for web streaming and everything but making dvds.
Can someone help me? Thanks in advance

Incidentally, for projects up to about 65 minutes you should use "Best Performance" which is what iDVD was originally set to.
It gives you the highest quality and the fastest encoding times.
Unfortunately it can't be used for projects more than about 65 minutes because the video would not fit on the DVD.
That is why you have to use "Best Quality" which will takeabout twice as long to encode.
"Pro Quality" will give a slightly better quality though you may not notice the difference and it will take twice as long again to encode . . . . or 4 times longer than "Best Performance".

  • Making 2 hour Project whilst viewing spinning ball ?

I have moved 2 hours and 35 minutes of events into the project window from the Glyph 160GB EHD that is connected to MBP via FW800 cable. As I add increasing amounts of events to this project the spinning ball appears frequently and for longer periods. At this rate I will be at this first edit for another month since I have 4 more hours of events to go through. The EHD is not having a problem. The MBP is.
After one of these sessions when the MbP is put to sleep the MBP starts to recycle the start up sound ( awakening hard drive ) while the lid was closed and in sleep mode. Then this morning it would not start up from sleep mode. After disconnecting all cables including power it started up as if from shut down mode. Now it is charging it's battery.
Does this sort of paralysis due to user methods or iMovie software ? I have 2GB of RAM.
Perhaps there is a more appropriate program for me to create a 2 hour plus movie project in the project pane ?

To start up from the DVD drive, either hold down the "c" key during startup or hold down the option key to access the Startup Manager.
However, before you consider erasing the normal startup volume or reinstalling the OS, it would be wise to determine the cause of the "annoying clicking sound" you mentioned in your first post. Unfortunately, this sounds like it could be a sign of a mechanical problem with the hard drive.
To check for this, you can use Disk Utility, which you can access through the "Utilities" button in the installer window or menu when booted from the Snow Leopard DVD. Run the "Repair Disk" item on your startup disk. Alternately or additionally, eject the Snow Leopard DVD by holding down the eject button on the keyboard or the mouse button during start up, locate your original system disc, & follow the instructions printed on it to run the Apple Hardware Test.
Depending on the results of these tests (which you can post here), it may be necessary to reformat (not just erase) the hard drive or in the worst case, replace the hard disk with a new one.

  • Rendering everytime i open project

    Hi hopefully someone can help..
Im using 10.0.5 and everytime i open a project it starts rendering from 0%..
I've let it get to 100% quit then restarted and it starts rendering all over again..
    Any ideas why?
    Many thanks in advance!
    Paul

Hello to you. Yes I too face the problem of FCPX opening to a 'render'...a bit irritating stuff. You tell that background rendering is to be turned off...but then what would be the consequences of my proceeding ahead in editing my video with rendering turned off?
BTW I would like you to view my latest video:

  • Problems with rendering a 16:9 project with Chapter markers to iDVD

    Hi there
I'm having an issue where I'm trying to export a DVD for a client with chapter markers as it's required. Problem is when I put the project into iDVD the project squishes back to 4:3 ratio.
One solution that was on here was to use the Quicktime Conversion to create a 16:9 video however when I use Quicktime conversion I lose the chapter markers
I need to have both 16:9 ratio and Chapter Markers in the DVD how do I overcome this problem?

    Anamorphicizer didn't work.
I can use Quicktime Pro cause I currently have Quicktime X on my computer (snow leopard) which doesn't have a Pro upgrade.
Any myDVDedit is really confusing to use do I have to export the DVD into a VIDEO_TS file to fix it? I'm still puzzled

  • File error when rendering audio on finished project

    Hi gang
When I go to render the audio before exporting, I get a file error message about 1 minute into the render that sez: "File error: specified file is open and in use by this or another application". I don't have any other projects open and I trashed my FCP prefs thinking it might fix the problem but same message appears again.
    Any ideas?
    thanks in advance

If spotlight is indexing (that is a background operation) it is using your file... just not allow spotlight to use your fcp scratch and you should not have this kind of problem in future...
I'd mark it helpful if I could. I've been having the same problem and got tired of "babysitting" my computer while I did a mixdown on long sequences. I just had a 10-minute audio render, and it gave me the error message 3 times. I found this reply and made the prefs changes and it finished just fine (unattended).
    Thanks again,

  • Trial Première pro CS3 combined with Sony DHR-1000NP/No sound rendering the Première Project

    Dear friends,
I am a belgian and I have many years of good experience with Pinnacle DV500, Adobe Première 6.0 and the Sony DV Recorder DHR-1000NP.
As I want to make a further step, I downloaded the trial of Adobe Première Pro CS3; I installed this trial on 2 OTHER computers, Windows Professional XP , SP2. With both I have the same problem!
I get good .avi's from my DV tapes, played with the same Sony DV Recorder DHR-1000NP, over a fire wire, connected with the OHCI of the computer.
When playing the obtained Première project, the video and audio on the screen and the amplifier of the computer, are perfect; the videosignal over the firewire and the Sony DV Recorder DHR-1000NP is also perfect, but there is absolutely NO audiosignal reaching the Sony DV Recorder DHR-1000NP.
Who can explain me how I should manage that problem?
    Thank you for helping!
    With my best regards,
    Marc

    Beste Marc

  • Error in CS5 when rendering from a CS4 project.

    Hey guys,
So I recently upgraded to a 64 bit machine with CS5 on it after using After Effects CS4 on my old 32 bit computer. When I open these projects and try to render them on my new machine, I get an error message that I haven't ever seen before.
    It says:
"After Effects: This project was unable to import the settings of some output modules. Those modules have been reset to their defaults."
When I select "OK", the dialog box just keeps reappearing.
    Any ideas?

You have incompatible output modules on your render queue because a lot of stuff has been changed for CS5. This affects pretty much all MPEG ones, WMV, Quicktime... Simply delete them and reassign the comps to the RQ with the new settings.

  • Optimizing After Effects Performance/ Rendering Speed for large projects

    Problem:
My after effects is extremely slow and i want to use an external harddrive  to increase the speed temporarily until i can afford to change the internal hard drive. i also have other video production software like Cinema 4D, Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro, Cheetah 3D, etc.
Macbook pro with the following specs:
Processor  2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory  8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Graphics  NVIDIA GeForce 320M 256 MB (Available space approx 91.GB)
    Software  OS X 10.8.5 (12F45)
    Action:
i have set my Disk Cache to use the 500GB Gtech firewire external hardrive in After Effects Preferences
    Issue: After effects still slow
Recommendation From expert: Change Internal Hard Drive to 512 GB SSD HARD DRIVE
Question: How can i optimize After effects with the current hard drive space i have right now?

Thank you. As i stated earlier i am new to after effects and video editing in general so this is a learning process for me. i have also realized that i have soo much going in the layer that i need to clean up and prerender as you said. Also one of the biggest mistake i am making is with the "composed individual lyric effect" i created. As i said earlier, i masked the lyrics to audio spectrum and choose the mp3 song in other to make the effect active, but since i am working on the lyric composition individually i did not crop the yellow bar in the workframe to the exact part of the lyric that applies to the song. hence leaving me with 100+ of words with each having the full length of the song in each individual composition i created in the master layer, in addition to the spin fx effect that i have not prerendered. After effects is trying to render alll these together basically. The extremely slow rendering procesing time arose  when i combined all individual lyric effect into the layer while also implementing typography tricks like in the same layer.
Basically, my question is should i reduce the frame work in each lyric composition to the exact section of the song that applies, and will this improve the overall rendering time in the master layer and solve my problem?
Also should i peform my typography skill like position, scaling rotation and so on in the individual layer/composition of the lyric effect i made in order to further save rendering time in the master layer?
