Renewed the wrong program

I just renewed my annual subscription for the wrong program. I was trying to renew my Premiere Pro and accidentally renewed Photoshop, which I do not need.

  • Weird: changing file or link associated defaults then changes ALL defaults to the same program

    Y'know... I thought I'd possibly 'seen it all' but today someone brought me a laptop with something I don't believe I've ever seen...
    every link and file association is defaulted to the wrong program, and it is not possible to restore the association to the proper program for the respective file types.  And changing one
    association changes ALL other associations for every other link to a file or shortcut.
    For instance: 'right-clicking' on what I KNOW to be an Adobe Acrobat file and selecting 'open with...' from the context menu, Adobe Acrobat is not shown (even after un-installing and re-installing Acrobat).  So I 'browse' to the Program files (x86)
    folder and select Adobe Acrobat (AcroRd32.exe) from within the Adobe Acrobat program folder to 're-associate' .pdf files with Acrobat..  BUT - this then changes ALL associations for everything  (including shortcuts on the desktop) to Adobe Acrobat.
      And the same can be said if I attempt to change the file association for a "docx" file extension (MS Word document).  Change the 'association' for one single 'docx' file and this results in ALL files or shortcuts on the desktop to also
    change to MS Word.
    So - what the ...?  Anyone have a clue as to what he's done on this "brand new" installation of Windows Home Premium (64-bit)?  I only just (this past week) talked him into 'abandoning' XP in favor of a license of Windows 7 Home Premium,
    and afterwards everything was 100% and fully operational - but now one week later and he's done this...
    So...  A registry issue..? Something to do with 'file association' defaults? (and my suspicion is some sort of 'dll' problem with this performance and the issue of not being able to configure 'program defaults' for any given file type without also affecting
    all other associations...).
    So,short of backing up all his data (out of precaution) and trying to do a 're-installation' of Windows, my most immediate response with this would be to just 'blow it away' and re-install Windows again ... and then copy all of his data back to the corresponding
    locations.  But I would like to know what he's possibly done (for future reference) and maybe learn of some possibility that this can be 'fixed' and the correct 'associations' re-established without having to re-install Windows one more time...

    According to the description, it seems that the issue is caused by some corrupted registry entry\keys, a corrupted registry key can be caused by an malware\virus, or an bad-coded program or just some incorrect operation by the user. it's hard to determin

    I believe I ordered the wrong programs. When talking to my dell concierge tech. I explained to him my need about converting a pdf file to a preprinted letterhead and be able to type the name and address to the top of the preprinted.  I was told I had to get an adobe program 11, which I already had.   It was one of your free ones.   When I contacted the agent at adobe, he told me the program I needed was adobe acrobat and he talked me into trying out your trial program.   It did not work.    He said I would have to order the pro version and he talked me through making my first conversion.   Today I found out about the huge expense of the instructions and the program.   Do you have anything that I can use just to convert a pdf to put the name and address on a preprinted letter?
    I am a 82 year old volunteer trying to help a nonprofit organization solicit funds.  My only involvement is using a program that will allow this name and address to be changed from company to company.
    I would appreciate a response.    I don't need the adobe 11 and the adobe acrobat which are both downloaded off the internet.  Can I cancel out on these programs and be refunded?

  • I recently installed the xbox 360 controller app so that I could play my rockband drums in logic and ableton live but I installed the wrong one and I was wondering if anyone knew how to uninstall it from the system preferences page and the whole program?

    If anyone could help I would greatly appreciate it and if anyone knows how to use the drum pads for those programs I mentioned would be great? I found a couple sites for using it with garageband but nothing as for mainly live and Im running OSX 10.6 so if anyone out there knows please let me know!!! The main reason I think I installed the wrong one is when I plug in the rockband drum kit to my usb port it dosen't show up in the xbox controller program but it lights up and I've tried all my different usb ports to see if that might be whats wrong but I still show nothing and I've also installed junXion and nothing shows up there either. So if anyone has any ideas just let me say thanks in advance!!!!!!!!

  • I Install the Adobe Creative suite 5 Design standad with the key on the backside of the box. Everything is ok, one day later it says it the wrong serial at the program. What happend?

    Wehn I whant start the program it says the wrong serial number. But I have here the orginal Adobe Box. I make my PC new.  And I do not deactivate the old one, could this be the fault.

    What Airplane Mode program? To stop a running program launch Activity Monitor (in utilities folder) and quit the program from there. To remove the program drag it to the trash or better use the uninstaller that should have come with it.

    Have no idea - But if it is a new problem with exactly the same kind of material that was previously used. Then my trouble shooting guide might help.
    If You
    • used a new Camera - file codec might be a sort that don't work
    • Your main hard disk might get too filled up
    Else try
    Trouble
    When iMovie doesn't work as intended this can be due to a lot of reasons
    • iMovie Pref files got corrupted - trash it/they and iMovie makes new and error free one's
    • Creating a new User-Account and log into this - forces iMovie to create all pref. files new and error free
    • Event or Project got corrupted - try to make a copy and repair
    • a codec is used that doesn't work
    • problem in iMovie Cache folder - trash Cache.mov and Cache.plist
    • version miss match of QuickTime Player / iMovie / iDVD
    • preferences are wrong - Repair Preferences
    • other hard disk problem - Repair Hard Disk (Disk Util tool - but start Mac from ext HD or DVD)
    • External hard disks - MUST BE - Mac OS Extended (hfs) formatted to work with Video

    • USB-flash-memories do not work

    • Let Your Mac be turned on during one night. At about midnight there is a set of maintenance programs that runs and tidying up. This might help
    • Turn off Your Mac - and disconnect Mains - for about 20-30 minutes - at least this resets the FireWire port.
    • In QuickTime - DivX, 3ivx codec, Flip4Mac, Perian etc - might be problematic - temporarily move them out and re-try
    (I deleted the file "3ivxVideoCodec.component" located in Mac HD/Library/Quicktime and this resolved my issue.)

    Don't waste your time trying to report it.  This is a known issue with the company that provides the guide info.  It is wrong, not all the time, but consistently.  The first time I saw it, it was screwing up my series manager recording, because it was the wrong name and info.
    I tried emailing--no results.  I called tech support and spent 20 minutes on hold, and then tried to explain it to the tech who told me it was my box.  Then he (without telling me) reset BOTH my boxes and managed to delete ALL of the settings, including favorites, which takes about 30 minutes to reset.  I tried regular Customer Service--they could not get what I was talking about, and said the "networks give them the info", which is obviously not the case, as it is so incorrect sometimes.  I then emailed the local channels to let them know, which produced "we'll look into it" answer.  The guide still has some incredibly wrong info.  I even tried to contact the info provider, that was posted somewhere on the forums, but that was hopeless, also.  For example, they had the wrong presidential debates posted in 2008 (the descriptions said Kerry/Bush Debate!)  Last week Lifetime had an original 2010 movie called "Deadly Honeymoon".  The guide had "Nightmare Honeymoon -- 1973" as the description. And so on..... It wasn't corrected.
    Apparently, until Verizon decides to go with a more accurate information provider, there will be ridiculous mistakes posted on the guide. Verizon does not seem bothered by it.

  • I synced my IPhone but OK'd the wrong button (back-up from old IPhone) and deleted all my data, such as contacts, pictures, videos, notes etc. How can I get my data back, restore all my lost file?

    I connected my IPhone 4 with my PC/iTunes to transfer my pictures/viedos to my PC. Unfortunately, I clicked on the wrong button when asked to sync with the old back-up files and ll my data werde deleted from my IPhone.
    Is there a program for the IPhone -as it exists for my Windows PC- to restore the data by chosing the date and time when datas are lost?

    Hi Khuram1981 - thank you thank you thank you!  All sorted!  dont suppose you know how to fix another problem I have??? for weeks now, since updating to ios5 I think, for some reason every time I have tried to log onto app store it says CANNOT CONNECT TO ITUNES STORE.  It's nothing to do with my computer, and I've been to the Geniius bar but they couldnt help and nothing I seem to do lets me update my Apps and even worse, I cant even buy any more.  Any suggestions?

  • Cloud backup restored photos and documnets to the wrong folder and all in one folder

    I used the cloud backup to backup and restore my photos and documents because I was told to fix my problem I would have to do a hard reset. When I restored the photos and documents they were all restored to the wrong place and all in one folder. Please help. Is there any way to fix this or is their cloud backup program just stupid and I am screwed?

    Let's get to the bottom of this and get your pictures and documents backed up correctly. What phone do you have? Did you restore every all at once? Try removing the files and doing the restore again. Did you do the restore from the phone or desktop app?

  • Why in September when I purchased a through the Edge program with the $5.00 insurance/protection plan (that the sales associate handling the purchase on the phone recommended), is no longer valid?!  2 months after getting the Edge device, I go to make a c

    Where is the insurance and original Edge Agreement from September?  No one in Verizon knows. I purchased (rented) a Galaxy S4 through the Edge program, with the $5.00 insurance/protection plan (that the sales associate handling the purchase on the phone recommended),which is no longer valid!  2 months after getting the Edge device, I go to make a claim and Asurion will not honor it because I am not covered; however, all the order confirmation receipts emailed and physically sent with the device show the addition of insurance when I signed up for the Edge program.  According to Verizon (via live chat with 'Nicole'), this $5 protection plan no longer exists and the order numbers I have on my paperwork (multiple documents) are invalid in the Verizon system.  For over a week, I have spent more than 10 hours on the phone, live chat and in the store trying to get some sort of resolution and the customer service reps just put me on hold or promise to "call me back within 30 minutes after they speak to a supervisor" and (surprise!) they never return my call.  Or they send me to the store to show proof of my documents, but then those associates cannot help either.  Also, the 'Edge Agreement' in my profile has the wrong device (and serial #), wrong payment amounts and no mention of the 'consumer protection plan'  on it, which is listed on the order confirmation sent via email and with the actual Edge device on September 23.  Obviously, there was some sort of glitch or mistake on Verizon's part, but NO ONE WILL EVEN TRY TO ACCEPT THAT FACT!  WHY WON'T ANYONE GET BACK TO ME WITH SOME SORT OF EXPLANATION FOR ANY OF THIS?!  Is it typical for Verizon to do away with a service (i.e., $5.00/month protection) and not inform the customer of this?  And is it company policy to be as unhelpful as possible to a paying customer who needs assistance when there is cleary something wrong on your end?  And finally, am I really suppose to believe that Verizon customer service has no email addresses or fax machines so a customer can send you proof of what is on the receipt you sent and that I have to take more of my time to go to the actual store?!  Finally, does anyone at Verizon even read these messages or even give a F@#k about the customer as long as they keep making money?!

  • When viewing documents on a Web Server, IE automatically opens a blank page and then opens the document in the default program. The blank screen should close automatically but isn't happening.

    So here is the situation, my company uses a third party scanning software, that puts documents scanned or created onto a webserver. We use a program that grants a user access to view the documents on the webserver. The user will have to log into the system
    using credentials, we have Kerberos doing this. Once the user is logged onto the system they navigate to the document they want to view or edit. So the user wants to view a .pdf file, they click the document they want, and it is supposed to open in the default
    program associated with file extension. ie: .doc would open Word, .xls would open Excel. When the document is loading in the default program Internet Explorer opens a blank page, this page is supposed to prompt the user if they want to open or save the document.
    (I changed the registry to have the files selected to automatically open without this prompt.) The blank screen generated is still staying open, this screen is supposed to close automatically after the prompt or close automatically after the document is opened.
    So when a user is looking at several documents, this floods the screen with all these blank Internet Explorer pages. This problem is only occurring for users that have Windows 7 PC's, XP users do not have this problem at all. My PC is the only one in the company
    that is Windows 7 64-bit, and working properly with the IE blank page automatically closing. I'm wondering what can be done to fix this problem, is it as simple as registering some .dll files or do I need to make a registry change? Any help would greatly be
    appreciated.

    What is the registry change exactly?  Sounds like one which is supposed to avoid the prompt.  I know
    that there used to be such a thing, before the new prompt and I know that some users think that there should be such a thing for any program but I'm not sure if that expectation is valid or not.  I think this may also be related to a concurrent change
    in the OS.  E.g. in XP we had File Types Options editor but starting in Vista that was removed.  You might get some more clues on this tack from NirSoft's FileTypesMan utility.
    The registry change that I did was to remove the open and save prompt. I will be sure to look into that. Our company
    isn't worried about the user's automatically opening the files since they are all trusted. They also do not have the ability to install anything, so if they were to download a potentially harmful file they could never install it. We monitor downloads as well,
    if they download files off the internet that aren't work related we remove their download capabilities.
    Sounds like a scenario for using ProcMon to take two traces and compare them for their essential differences.
    I talked to my boss about using this tool and he is worried about using it. I'm only an intern at my office and do not have the authority to use a program without their knowledge or consent. I will run the idea by them again and see if it's okay I use this.
    I'll maybe make some presentation about how it can help us with our problem and how much time and money it will save. Because I really want to get down to the bottom of this.
    Probably the most significant thing is going to be the Content-type that the files are being served by. 
    You could use the Developer Tools, Network Capture to check on that and ProcMon could help explain what happens after that.  A related workaround to change the symptom when the Content-type is not what is expected is to disable MIME Sniffing (e.g. in
    Security options, Miscellaneous section).  In fact, perhaps that could explain your machine's difference with anyone else?  MIME Sniffing is a default, previously known as "save according to type not extension" (or some such wording).
    Okay I will be completely honest I have no idea how to use Developer Tools (F12), yes I could google it, when I tried using it on the blank pages it would never work, I also have no idea what I'm looking at. I should mention that I do not have access to
    the web server. Our programming and development side only has access to our AS400, which is where the web server is located. I do have MIME Sniffing enabled and so does everyone else. I may be wrong but, I believe it is needed in order to open the file extension
    in the correct default program, yes? I thought MIME Sniffing would see a .docx file and then find the appropriate program to open that .docx file in. I may be wrong but I know it's used somehow along these lines.

  • How can I get Firefox 3.6 to startup and load at a particular screen position - using cmd-line or other, in a Solaris SPARC/UNIX env? The xterm program uses the -geometry args as a manner of specifying position on the screen.

    I am running Firefox 3.6 - on Solaris 10 SPARC env.
    I am using the X11 - TWM(X-windows Manager). I have tried to alter the .twmrc files for the WM, but I need firefox to declare the position in the client program, else the TWM will force me to place it every time. When I use the xterm with the "-geometry" I can specify the position the xterm is opened and positioned there automatically. I have tried using the Xresource configuration settings(maybe I am doing something wrong here), but the X-server ignores it... so I believe that only firefox app can manage the positioning?
    I am out of ideas, I suppose the next step is to question the source... Any ideas of how I can achieve this auto positioning in TWM. (I have been looking into X-events to manage the placement, but this is messy)

    The version of Apache that comes default with Solaris might not be compiled for that I am not positive though. I downloaded and compiled Apach 2 and compiled mod_ssl and got it working with no problems you might want to try that.

  • Has anyone been denied the edge program by sales after CSR states approval?

    I have been a customer a decade. Even before it was called Verizon. Due to my latest events with CSR, the ELMIRA NY STORE(swore I'd never return- dishonest used car salesman attitude, do not like educated customers on Verizon policies-caught in lying, witnessed taking advantage of the young and elderly, practice illegal sales tactics, in need of moral and ethics training) I am considering switching to AT&T or purchasing unlocked phones and using different approach to cell communication. Looking into BOOST. That is how disappointed and frustrated with time wasted now up to 15 hours and counting. Also money spent on a service $40,000/10yrs approx including not honored rebates, equipment, fees and taxes. If you compare to EUROPE ask yourself why is it so expensive and different here? Cell service should be affordable for all and not a small car payment!!!
    I am trying to order the Sony tablet thru the edge program. here is the letter I sent to correspondence. I apologize it is rough but was in a hurry and very annoyed with verizon's lack of fluid customer service. Along with the degrration of CSR management policies, sales pushy dishonesty lack of "say what you mean and mean what you say" attitude of store employees. I find the CSR department full of inexperience employees and frustrated seasoned ones. Most CSR honestly try to help or don't know how to help and ask for assistance. But the problem is obvious there is NO CUSTOMER SATIFACTION in the company anymore. As of late I am treated like cattle with no resolution to issues except at my expense. Due to current issues with my Multiple Scolerosis and failure of responsive equipment(touch screens) Verizon has fallen short. In the past they have been more then helpful in obtaining disability supportive equipment. Now I can't obtain without paying $380.00 termination fee and going to AT&T!!! Seriously what is wrong with this picture? I also have four lines for family. It appears that management does not care about resolution. Only bait and switch mentality by the "call back within 24-48 hour" that never occurs. No wonder CSR hold time is in excess of 30 min. One issue call takes 1-3 hours of my time with 50/50 chance of correct, honest resolution.
    Here is the latest letter sent:
    I am writing this email due to my attempt to find a solution to a problem with a device and my Multiple Sclerosis. The 15 day policy regarding equipment exchange should be flexible for persons with disabilities. Six out of eight reps that I was transferred to went above and beyond to identify the situation, take corrective action for a solution. With the exception of two persons. The manager which denied permission to exchange tablet for cell phone and Scott. Scott is in Sales, (removed) would not transfer me to a supervisor for assistance and further investigation on why I am not eligible for the edge program. After being transferred to him to place order and activate the edge program. Which I was told numerous times that I am eligible for if I opened a new line.
    He was the third rep spoken to today and eleventh rep in total and the worst regarding problem solving. I guess I was not worth a commission so therefore I get no investment of his time and energy or concern. Which is exactly how he sounded. Whatever happened to VIP customer appreciation?
    My second call regarding this tablet started on Monday at 10:30 pm approx. long story short I placed the order for the Sony tablet and upon finalization of sale was informed that I did not qualify for edge due to note on account. After that  and three reps at 1:45 am transferred to financial service department, which was closed I had no resolution.
    One week prior I had contacted CSR regarding exchange or the purchase of a tablet for line (removed). I received the phone during a MS flair up and thought it was not working correctly due to my fingers contact. So I did not exchange phone thinking it was me. Yes, the phone sat on my desk for at least a month before I initiated purchase of Sony tablet, due to my illness and inability to speak well.
    This phone is defective from the start. The microphone does not work and alarm cannot swipe “off” with my fingers. Due to the medical state of my finger tips it is impossible for me to know that it was not working because it was defective device and not me.
    A manager needed to be consulted, to give tech support rep permission, to replace phone with tablet, at my expense. I was to receive a call back the next day. I did not Thats when I called few days later on Monday, July 21 at 10:30pm.
    I was not trying to get a device for free. I only wist to place the Sony tablet for (removed) line instead of the phone at my expense. I am returning to college and need a tablet. Thats when I was informed that my request was denied by supervisor. No explanation, no call back. Afterwards I was transferred all over the place and to financial service department which was closed.
    So I called today and, once again, was told that I am eligible for tablet then transferred to Scott for completion of edge program and denied tablet sale. Also a logical explanation of why a new customer can get a tablet with no payment history and I cannot. I even asked if I bought one on Amazon could it be activated thru Verizon? He said, “No, it must be a verizon tablet.”
    Is there any solution besides my having to place a dummy device on line and not being able to get a tablet? I have been informed about edge program and no where did I see  upon sales discretion. Can I please get the tablet, which I can use stylus for during flair ups? Or since I live in a non coverage area do I cancel all lines of service and go thru AT&T to get one and use for cell provider? I don't understand why this is an issues when it hasn't in the past. My only concern is trying to get a device that can support my disabilities and maintaining service with Verizon which I like very much, all these years.

    Yes, you are always eligible for Edge if you open up a new line and that is exactly what a CSR will tell you. There are certain conditions which must be met when the transaction actually starts, though. A credit check, for instance. If you fail to pass the credit check when attempting to enter into an Edge agreement that simply means you failed to qualify for Edge even though you are eligible to enter into an agreement. Being ELIGIBLE to enter into an agreement and QUALIFYING to enter into that agreement are 2 separate issues. Any current Verizon customer of 6 months or more and not currently under contract OR willing to open a new line of service is ELIGIBLE for Edge. Only those which pass the credit check would QUALIFY to enter into the agreement, though.
    A CSR does not perform a credit check on you when pointing out possible avenues for you to explore. That is ONLY done once you start the purchasing process, which would have been initiated by the sales associate. Once the sales associate runs the credit check, they are in posession of MORE information then the CSR which pointed you towards the Edge plan. The CSR has no way of knowing if you would pass all the requirements in order to enter into an Edge agreement, that is not going to prevent him from pointing out the Edge plan.
    Just like purchasing a car, a salesman will try to get you into a car and tell you about the financing available at the dealership. That does not mean you will qualify for the financing, though. If you fail to qualify for the financing, that does not mean the salesman was trying to mislead you when pointing out the financing options.
