Replacement battery is falling apart!!

I had my battery replaced as apart of the exchange program that took place some time ago. I noticed today that the replacement battery is falling apart. The top plate is lifting off of the battery, on the edge where the 5 power indicator lights are. The rest of the battery looks to be in fine condition, so I don't think the entire battery is in danger, but potentially it could be, if the top plate lifts off anymore. My big question is, my warranty has run out, but since this was the replacement battery that Apple gave me during the battery exchange program, should they replace this for me at no cost? If so, could someone post a link to an email address I can write to, to tell them of this problem & hopefully have it resolved? And for arguments sake, this battery is barely used. I use my laptop as a desktop, which means, I have the battery out about 98% of the time. So this wasn't caused by normal wear & tear. Please let me know what I can do, thanks!

For starters, you should not be running your MacBook with the battery removed. The battery gets very minor charge/discharge cycles while it is plugged in which helps to keep the battery exercised at least somewhat. You should make it a point to calibrate your battery however if you primarily use it plugged in... every few months or so. Your machines performance also drops significantly when run with the battery removed... and unless you are plugged into a UPS, you risk losing anything you may be working on, but haven't saved, if you have a power fluctuation. There are certain conditions during which A/C power does not supply enough current. The battery makes up for that difference. This is why the performance is designed to drop when run without the battery being installed.

There is no email to contact Apple for your problem. You should give Apple a call directly and explain your problem. Only they will be able to let you know if your battery replacement would be covered.

  • Macbook battery falling apart/buldging

I have one of the black 2.4 Ghz Core 2 Duo Macbooks.   In the last few days the battery on it has started to fall apart.  It's 'buldging' and the top is literally 'blowing' (peeling) right off of it.  The machine is out of warranty/applecare but this seems like a product defect.  Would apple do anything about this, or am I stuck having to replace the battery?

If you have a MacBook with the removable battery you can get a new third party battery fairly cheap on eBay.

  • Do You Know Your iPod Battery May Fall Under Warranty Replacement?

I have the extended warranty on my iPod Touch. My batter life was horrible... without wifi just playing music getting just over 3 hours. I also had a bad MBP battery. Called up AppleCare and got case numbers for both after diagnosis. Was taking a long drive to an Apple Store with Genus appt the next day...
My name was called and my Genus re-ran the MBP battery check finding it at fault and went to replace it... I said that I was having an issue with the Touch battery as well. He said "You know that the battery is NOT covered under warranty!". I said NO, if a battery is faulty that it is covered under warranty. I told him that it was THE reason that I purchased the warranty... He argued with me about it and I just couldnt believe my ears... I said that all he had to do was go to the Apple site and find the Touch battery warranty description... He started printing out the MBP battery replacement agreement and we had another video test to run on the MBP... he went in the back to get a DVD.
As I sat there I started hearing all the genus say to every customer with a iPod battery issue say that battery replacement cost blah blah blah... no one was asked if they had a warranty or that if the battery was found to be faulty the battery replacement would be covered. One guy came in with his son saying the iPod was a Christmas present and the battery was only getting blah blah hours... Again, he was told that a battery replacement would cost $$$. It was surely under warranty but he was still charged! ***?
My Genus comes back and runs the video test with a Howdy Doody DVD, UGH... anyways... he goes back to return the DVD and comes back with something in his hand, unwraps a Touch and tosses it my way. I asked him what was up? He says that the original Touch battery is not replaceable so here was a new one. I said OK... thinking, why was he giving me one after arguing with me about the battery NOT being under warranty???
So, I guess it pays off to know your warranty with Apple products as the Genus wont offer the facts. Maybe this was just at the Cleveland OH Apple Store. So, wondering if you know that your iPod battery may fall under warranty and if this is a national fraud by Genus?

Will the data on my iPod be preserved?
No. You will receive a replacement iPod that will not contain any of your data, songs, etc. Before you submit your iPod for service, it is your responsibility to keep a separate backup copy of the data stored on your iPod and reinstall that data. Please do not send any accessories with your iPod as they will not be returned.
Attention iPod touch customers: Before obtaining service, it is important to back up your data using iCloud or iTunes. Apple is not responsible for the loss of information while servicing your iPod touch and does not offer any data transfer service.
Following service your replacement iPod touch may have a newer operating system (iOS) version and you will need to restore your data using the method used to back it up (iCloud or iTunes). As a result, you may also need to update your App Store applications to ensure compatibility with the newer iOS. If you experience a problem with an application purchased from the App Store, check iTunes to see if an update is available or contact the application vendor directly.

  • Replacement iPod Touch 8GB (2nd Gen) beggining to fall apart after two months!

Well my problem is plain and simple
My first iPod touch (8GB 2nd Gen) was working perfectly fine until one day it slipped from my hands and the screen shattered. I took the iPod in to Best Buy and they overlooked the serial number and looked up my plan (product replacement plan) and they took it in and sent it out. They promised me a refurbished or a new iPod touch. They said it should take only about 5 days but it took two weeks, but in all fairness it was around a busy holiday seasons so i can understand the holdup. My Apple warranty was already up when i took the first iPod in for a replacement so i just used my product replacement plan. 2 weeks later i recieved my refurbished iPod in the mail, how could i tell it was refurbished, well for one the back of the iPod was void of any scratches but there was no Apple or "iPod" branding?! They also did not include the headphones used with current and past models, they shipped headphones that were changed years ago to a new design, i tested the headphones, and they were broken. I just said oh well and when i went to plug it in with the "new" cord they included i noticed there were stains all over it and i had to disinfect them (..yuck!) it made me certainly rethink even using the headphones in the first place. One thing that seemed odd to me was that it included OS 3.0 since 2nd gen iPods only ship with OS 2.2.1 and after checking the settings i confirmed it was in fact a sencond generation iPod Touch. After about a week of use i plugged in my headphones and i could only hear through one side, i unplugged them and replugged them and the problem was resolved and i thought it was a fluke, so i just disregarded it but its been a month now and since last week no matter what headphones i use i always get sound from the left channel. I was honestly furious that after only 1 month the ipod it starting to fall apart in front of me. I inspected the iPod closely and noticed that if held a certain way the glass on the lower right coner of the iPod begins to move around. The home button has also failed to respond quite a few times. Then when one day the external speaker started to begin to become flaky and sometimes not work at all, i just said "thats it!" im currently resetting the iPod to factory settings and putting a test sound on it for them to listen to and see the problem. In fact when i received it there was already a test sound on it so i presume there was a problem with the jack previously? I am repackiging everything and am off to geek squad tommorow, if there is any other advice to offer please let me know. Ive treated the iPod like a child after the first one shattered and the device has never been dropped, the screen and the back cover are spotless (minus the small scratches on the back chrome cover just from normal use) the iPod has never been near water and i checked the iPod to see if infact water could have gotten in the iPod and the sticker was still sparkling white, i am sorry Best Buy ive been a customer for years and while do not mean to rant and complain it has only been to months and its already falling apart?! i am sorry that is just not acceptable.

I just got my ipod touch 2nd gen 8gb replacement ipod in the mail two days ago. And i fell that my screen has cracked way to easily. I had my other ipod touch before this one for a year and a half and the screen had never been cracked. But my first two days with this "replacement" ipod has cracked twice. i am willing to take the blame for the first crack as i dropped it in the street and my case didnt do its job, but lasnight i put my hand in my sweatpants pocked only to find small peices of glass. i took out my ipod and there was the problem. a large shatter on the bottom near the homebutton. Seriously 2 cracks in 2 days with my REPLACEMENT after 360+ days and no cracks with my forsure APPLE ipod touch? I doubt my ipod touch screen is even made by apple.

  • I ordered a battery for my laptop because it said to replace battery soon.  How long can I let the new battery sit around as I wait for the old one to run out of more charge?

I ordered a battery for my laptop because it said to replace battery soon.  How long can I let the new battery sit around as I wait for the old one to run out of more charge?  Will the new one become less effective if it sits around too long?

How much capacity is remaining on your current battery?
    Check your power status
From the  menu: Hold OPTION and click System Information... èHardware è Power
Copy and Paste in your reply.
The new battery will become less effective if you store it in a hot or humid environment. It should be stored at room temperature (22 C).
    Long term storage (6 months):
Apple recommends that you store the battery with a 50% charge. If you store a battery when it’s fully discharged, it could fall into a deep discharge state, which renders it incapable of holding any charge. Conversely, if you store it fully charged for an extended period of time, the battery may experience some loss of battery capacity, meaning it will have a shorter life.

  • Highly Dissapointed G570 falling apart within 3 months and now cracking close to end of Warranty

I purchased a Lenovo G570 and noticed within 3 months the screws at the bottom were dropping out unknown to me. Next the rear edges cracked open everytime I opened up the Laptop TO USE IT and made a cracking sound , same noise when you close it.
I am highly disappointed in this Laptop. I was considering getting a Lenovo Tablet but after this nightmare , I will keep as far away from Lenovo as I can.
Also I bought the Laptop at the end of August and was shocked to discover that my Warranty expired a couple of weeks before it should have so to replace the Screws I was told to ship it to the factory for repair would cost over $250 !
I see some Screw Kits available for much less than this.
I am now just waiting for the Whole Laptop to fall apart but will not be repairing it , I will just throw it in the Garbage Dump and consider it a waste of money.
I will go for a Toshiba or Apple next time.
Never Ever Again ....NOT A CHANCE WILL I EVER PURCHASE LENOVO !  SHAME ON THEM !

It will keep falling apart. Don't buy anymore Lenovo products. They will just beak into pieces. They are shameless and disgusting. My laptop just keeps falling apart.

  • Need instructions for replacing battery

    Hey, all.
The "Replace Battery" light is lit on my ONT, and it is (of course) doing that annoying beeping noise.
Since the only way to permanently stop the beeping is to disconnect the battery, I'd like to do that.  Unfortunately, none of the instructions I've seen online, or gotten from Verizon customer service, have applied to my specific ONT model.
I have a Motorola ONT1000GJ2  (Yes, GJ, not GT, I've checked repeatedly).  I *think* the battery is in the upper section of the housing, but I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how to get to it.
If anyone has achieved this blessed state of affairs of actually getting to this battery, could you be so kind as to fill me in on how?
    Thanks in advance!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I am providing my own answer to this question, as the community didn't come up with an answer, and Verizon customer "service" (and I use the term extremely loosely in this regard) was the exact opposite of helpful.
Looking at the picture above, on the far right-hand side, there are two recessed hex-screws, one above the other.  To access the battery compartment on this particular model, leave the lower screw tightened, and loosen the upper screw.  Don't worry about it falling out: I'm pretty sure it's a "captive" screw, and so cannot be fully removed.
Once you have the screw loosened, pull outward on the upper right corner of the box.  You may have to lift up at the same time, if it hangs up on you.  (In order to lift up on it, put a finger or thumb in the screw's recess, and push upward).  Continue to jiggle and pull, and eventually the stupid thing will come open.  Once you've got it open, removing the battery and then the battery clips is the same as in the videos they've provided:  Pull back the tabs to slip the battery out, and then wiggle the connectors off the battery posts.
WARNING:  The battery is several pounds in weight, and the wires are not all that long.  If you have to stretch to get to your unit like I do (mine is mounted above my washer/dryer), you will benefit from a helper, so they can hold the battery while you remove the battery connectors.  I know I struggled a bit trying to do it alone.
Thanks to those who attempted to help me.  I hope this is able to help someone else in the future.
Oh, and one more piece of info:  Verizon "customer service" will repeatedly tell you the only official way to make the unit stop beeping is to replace the defective battery with a new one.  They have to utter the word "official", because otherwise, you can accuse them (accurately) of lying.  The unit will stop beeping as soon as you disconnect the old battery.  They, of course, want you to spend $30+ buying a new battery from them, so they will not tell you this.  If, like me, you have no desire to replace the battery, rest assured, the unit will stop annoying you once you've got the old battery out of it.  The "Replace Battery" light will remain on, but the audible warnings will end.

  • Macbook Chasis Falling Apart!

My Macbook BLACK chasis is falling apart. The edges start breaking apart. Does this happen to all of you?

    Hi markis_83
    Welcome to Apple discussions
Unfortunately, some macbooks have been affected by these issues, but provided it's still in warranty Apple will fix it free of charge. In my own case, the lower case of my MB started cracking and it was replaced free of charge.
Contact Apple Care today and get your MB fixed.

  • My Original MacBook is falling apart

My Original macbook is fall apart the (Top Case the part with the keyboard) that part is falling apart,
    1. Stains on the top case
    2. Crack near the button on the trackpad
    3. and now the Left arrow key is about ready to fall off.
So I going to take it to one of the Apple Stores- and if they do not fix for free of charge then I think about getting the new MacBook that they just annouced today.
Who thinks that is a good idea?

I took my Original Macbook to a Apple store and I just mention the crack and the loose key. And they said that they would replace the top case for no charge. I went to the Fair Oaks mall (Apple Store that just opened up in April of this year) and they said that the cracks are covered if out of warrenty. And I ask how often do they see cracks in the top case and they say it is normal. So I have brand new on Top Case and it only took them 10 minutes to put the new top case on and it is defentially stronger plastic so it might last a little big longer now. So they did not keep my Macbook for couple days just went and told them about it and then 10 minutes later I had a new top case.

Do I need the the battery firmware 1.3 update?
If I replace the battery do I go for Li-on or Li-Pl replacement battery?

    Hi Hitch,
Your battery is down to about 73% of its original total capacity. The "standard" recommendation with Lithium batteries is to replace them when they fall below about 80% of of original capacity, after which their behaviour can become unpredictable , with increased possibility of sudden shutdowns without warning in high demand situations, etc., because of increase internal resistance.
Some batteries hold up well below this sort of figure, though (albeit with reduced charge life) and , as long as you don't mind having to recharge more frequently , can continue to be used without too much threat of data loss from sudden shutdowns for quite a while. Others become temperamental pretty much immediately.
If the computer isn't suddenly shutting down without warning when faced with any high power demand when running on battery, and you don't mind the reduced run time on any given charge, then will probably be able to keep on using it for a while. If not, or if it starts shutting down suddenly when running on battery, then you obviously need to get a new one.
There is a fair amount of confusion out there about the "Lithium Ion" / "Lithium Polymer" battery issue. The reality is that ALL batteries made for the MBPs and MBs are actually Lithium Polymer versions of Lithium Ion batteries, though some actually simply say "Lithium Ion" on the casing. see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3668. (the same actually also applies to the alu powerbooks)
    Cheers

  • Where can I buy a genuine apple replacement battery (A1309) for my Mid 2010 17" Macbook Pro?

Where can I buy a genuine apple replacement battery (A1309) for my Mid 2010 17" Macbook Pro? There are used batteries on ebay that don't appear genuine. There are some third-party knock offs. The apple store seems to believe they can replace it, but I have to make a reservation at the silly Genius Bar just to have them tell me how much it's gonna cost, not to mention then likely wait for them to order the battery and install it. I'm perfectly capable of installing it myself. I just need to know where I can order it?
    Thanks,
    Andrew

Yeah, that's what I've finally decided. I was kidna super frustrated because the first apple store I called wouldn't even tell me a price or tell me if they could replace the battery without a Genius Bar appointment, and as I would have to take off work and drive acros town--and I don't have a car so I'd have to borrow one--that was pretty annoying. That call left me pricing linux laptops. I called another store to see if I'd have better luck, and the initial answer was the same, but the girl relented under some trying-to-be-nice-but-clearly-annoyed pressure, and she gave me the answers I needed: yes, they should have the battery in stock and it should be a same-day replacement that should cost $179.
It just *****, really, because there's so much about Apple that I used to love, and I'm watching it kinda melt away under their success in the mobile market. As a professional user, there's less and less reason to stick with them. Instead of being the best they can be, I feel like they're just trying to be flashier and just a little better than the other mediocre computer companies. Ugh. Anyway, now I'm ranting.

  • The replacement battery for Ipod nano true or false

I was tryin to figure out if it was true that you can't replace your battery in an Ipod nano unless you have good sodering skills or unless you send it in and replace it. Because I bought a third party replacement battery for my Ipod Nano, and it gave me the instructions to the normal Ipod. Then I saw a lot of discussion posts saying that you can replace the battery for an Ipod Nano, so I need to know if you can or can't.

    It is possible...
If you Google search for it, you can probably find instructions (with pictures) on how to do it. Basically, you need to use something (such as a tiny flathead screwdriver or a putty knife) to separate the plastic front case from the aluminum back case. Then, you can disconnect the battery that's inside of it and connect your new battery. Most third party iPod batteries recommend charging it completely before first use.
It is, however, easier to send your iPod in for service for a battery issue, and just have them replace your iPod for you.
    http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/
To my knowledge, you don't need any exceptional soldering skills. I've replaced batteries in some older iPods, and needed nothing but a tiny flathead screwdriver that I use to do general maintenance on my saxophone.
