Report on column

I want a report which on running will ask about a column of some table and then value of that column and display the data. say we have a table T and two fields f1 and f2. On running it should receive f1 or f2 as column names and then in the second parameter value for f1 or f2 and then display the data.
thanks in advance
iftikhar

i am also not able to understand your problem.I think that it is not possible to dynamically select the report columns.One more thing it is better to post this thread in reports forums than in forms forums

Hi,
This type of question is almost impossible to answer over a forum .
You need to work with your business to understand what these requirements mean in terms of data modelling and relationships between object entities.
- Some of these metrics should be delegated to source, and calculated in the update routines to your datatargets (aka Cubes/Tables)
- Others could be resolved in the semantic layer (Universe)
- Other will be calculated in the presentation layer as local formulae or variables.
whilst BusinessObjects is a fairly intuitive tool, it may be unreasonble to expect a new learner to deliver an advanced report with conditional formatting.

• Hints on Interactive Report's column headers

Hi,
I've used +"< spa.n title = "Hint" > Header < / span>"+ (the first 'spa.n' is so it doesn't interpret as code) to put hints on my report columns headers but found that, when using interactive report's tools, the column names that appear obviously include the "code".
Is there any way to put hints on interactive report columns and still maintain the proper title(in this case Header) when using the tools?
Thank you,
Marc

Hi,
Thank you for the tip Ghoulies. The spaces I put trying to make it read as text. The code works fine, it actually shows the Header in the report's column and the hint appears on mouse-over.
What I mean is, when using interactive report's tools, such as "Select Columns", The header {code} appears as the column name in the +display / not display+ boxes.
Is there any other way to put hints on Interactive reports so that this doesn't happen?

• Report Template, Column Template, Column Template Condition

I have a template, Standard Revenue from Standard, I have cloned for a Classic report.
Application ###>Shared Componets>Templates>Edit Report Template
Column Template 1 looks like:
<td#ALIGNMENT# headers="#COLUMN_HEADER_NAME#" class="t1data_revenue">#COLUMN_VALUE#

I have set Column Template 1 Condition to:
"Use based on PL/SQL expresiion"
I have tried several expression in "Column Template 1 Expression" - last one is:
case
when #COLNUM# <= 2 then false
when #COLUMN_VALUE# < 0 then true
else false
end case;
I am trying to use the value in "Column Template 2" when to value of the #COLUMN_VALUE# < 0

Hi,
That's actually easier. See: [http://apex.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=267:60]
The SQL for both reports is:
SELECT EMPNO, ENAME, NVL(SAL,0) SAL, NVL(COMM,0) COMM
FROM EMP
ORDER BY EMPNOThe SAL and COMM columns have been formatted using:
999G999G999G999G990D00For the Row Template, the Row Template 1 setting contains an empty space (you have to have something in there otherwise Apex adds back in a default row containing five cells!). The condition for this is:
TO_NUMBER('#COMM#','999G999G999G999G990D00') < 100The template will see the data as a string, so we use the same number format to convert that string back into a number and compare this to 100. If we didn't use formatting on the numbers and we are sure that every row contained a number (hence the use of NVL()), then you could use:
#COMM# < 100Row Template 2 contains the format for the rows that need displaying:
<tr>
<td class="t18Data">#1#</td>
<td class="t18Data">#2#</td>
<td class="t18Data" style="text-align:right">#3#</td>
<td class="t18Data" style="text-align:right">#4#</td>
</tr>and is unconditional.
The only other settings on the Row Template are the Before Rows:
<table class="t18Standard" style="border-collapse:collapse; border:1px solid black;">
<tr>
<th class="t18ReportHeader">Empno</th>
<th class="t18ReportHeader">Ename</th>
<th class="t18ReportHeader" style="text-align:right">Sal</th>
<th class="t18ReportHeader" style="text-align:right">Comm</th>
</tr>and After Rows:
</table>Of course, you will note that the record counters at the bottom still show the number of records in both reports - as the SQL still outputs the same data, this doesn't change.

• How to use Value Variable in Report Painter Column defined as Formula

Hi Gurus,
In report painter, how can I add one field (exchange rate) in selection screen, so that user can provide the exchange rate to be used, then execute the report, the exchange rate will used to multiple local currency amount.
The reason for this is we want use provided exchange rate to convert the amount from once currency to the other currency.
Alternatively I am studying the functionality of "Value Variable" and found that I can perform the task from this. I have created the value variable but when I am using the variable in Report Painter columns as "&ZVALVAR", system is giving me error. I read the help and it states that use the variable with "&" and do it as it is mentioned.
Can anybody suggest what I need to do to make it workable.
Thanks

I did try using the presentation variable, but that does not work too. I am setting session variable in the dashboard prompt (select 'request variable'). When I use presentation variable, it hard codes the value of the variable name.
sql is

• Does anyone have a report using cfdocument that produces a ledger type report with column headings?

I need to see some sample source code of a report with column headings and detail data. I can't get my column titles in the header to line up with the detail no matter what I do. Can anyone spare me a good sample?
I have tried to use tables to specify both col headings and detail, but no chance to get them to line up. There has to be a way. I can't use the report builder because I need more control of when page breaks print, what data is on each line, etc. Hopefully some kind soul out there has a good sample.
Thanks!
Dave

Your MBP is actually a mid-2010, not a 2008. That's what the 6,2 model indicates.There's an issue with the graphics module on that machine. There was a program in place to replace the motherboard within 3 years of purchase, but you're probably outside of that. Some folks have supposedly gotten theirs changed outside of that period, so you can try.
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4088?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
What you can do to use it is download gfxstatus from http:gfx.io and force the graphics to Intel. That would affect your work with Final Cut, but at least you might be able to use the machine.

• Report region columns constrained to 4000 chars? Hitting LOV problems.

Hi all,
I've hit a problem that I'm hoping will have a simple answer.
Quick overview of issue:
APEX 3.01 application running against a 10gR2 DB.
We have an LOV defined that works just fine on various forms but in report regions where the LOV is available via a drop down column value in the report region HTML table we are hitting the error:
report error:
ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small
Some judicious debugging reveals that this seems to be because we are trying to load in more than 4000 characters into the LOV drop down in the report regions HTML table column (it's a moderately large LOV)..
This suggests that the default column type in a report region HTML table is VARCHAR2 and thus that there is a default 4000 character limit on any such column values, would that be a fair assumption? I know that the actual report row size always used to be limited to a total of 32k but this limit is a new one to me.
If there is such a limit, does anyone have any suggestions on how to work-around it i.e. is it possible to redefine report region column values to be other datatypes/dimensions or should we be looking at using an alternative such as a pop-up instead?
Many thanks.

Hi Scott,
Okay, what we have is a fairly simple Dynamic Page with two report regions (both standard type of 'SQL Query'). The second report region is the one causing us the headache. The column headings are set to 'Custom' but apart from that everything seems as it should be.
The following query populates an HTML table being generated in the second report region (problem line in bold):
SELECT apex_item.hidden(7,task_id)||
apex_item.select_list_from_lov(1, estimate_type, 'TASKSMK', NULL, 'YES', 0,'** Select Task **',NULL, NULL) as "Task Type",
''||apex_item.text(2, description,30,4000,'required="true"') as "Work Item(s)",
dbms_lob.substr(apex_item.select_list_from_lov_xl(3, username, 'PEOPLE', NULL, 'YES', 0, '** Select Resource **', NULL, NULL),4000) as "Resource",
apex_item.text(4, days,5,5) as "Days",
apex_item.text(5, start_date,11,11) as "target Start (dd-mon-yyyy)",
apex_item.text(6, NVL(end_date,ADD_MONTHS(start_date,1)),11,11) as "Target End (DD-MON-YYYY)",
rownum link
FROM
(SELECT t.task_id,
e.estimate_type,
t.description,
t.username ,
t.days,
t.start_date,
t.end_date
FROM estimate e, task t
WHERE e.project_project_id = TO_NUMBER(:F172_PROJECT_ID)
AND e.active_yn = 'Y'
-- and t.days > 0
AND t.ese_id = e.id
--AND e.creation_date = (SELECT MAX(ei.creation_date) FROM estimate ei WHERE ei.project_project_id = e.project_project_id AND ei.active_yn = 'N')
UNION ALL
SELECT 0 task_id,
0 estimate_type,
NULL description,
'0' username,
NULL days,
sysdate start_date,
ADD_MONTHS(sysdate,1) end_date
FROM dual
CONNECT BY LEVEL < = TO_NUMBER(:P19_ROWS_CNT))
All appears well until the number of values being returned in the second LOV (retrieved by the apex_item.select_list_from_lov_xl) exceeds 4000 characters and then we get the error first detailed. The substr around the function isn't usually present, it was added during the debugging, if I allow one more character than the 4000 or remove the substr completely then I get the error again. If the same function is used to retrieve the LOV on a normal Dynamic Form field then all is well, it only seems to have a problem when present in the HTML table being generated.
Are we doing something silly here?
Thanks.

• Two Key figures in Report Painter column?

Dear Experts,
We have some company codes with group currency setup and others without this. I have created a report painter report with table GLT0. I want ability to produce a consolidated report for all the company codes.
However, when I define the report column, I can only select one basic key figure in the column viz. HSL - Local currency or KSL - Group currency for example. In my report I have selected HSL since majority of the company codes report on local currency.
Is there a way that the program can be told to change the basic key figure during report execution to KSL - Grp Curr for select company codes only?
Or is there a way to have two basic key figures in a report painter column? I know I sound foolish on this question. But still I ask this.
Any thoughts, pls share with me. Thanks.
Vishal Thakur

You are right Sue. But unfortunately way back in the 90's when our company implemented SAP, those company codes did not activate the 2nd LC as USD. Thus, these companies only have figures updated in the 1st LC which is USD.
Subsequently, we acquired new companies overseas and then for these co's we switched on the 2nd LC as USD with the 1st LC as the country specific currency.
Vishal.

Environment: Oracle APEX 4.0 - Interactive Report - Table Column header Filter Issue
We have developed an interactive report using Oracle APEX 4.0, which contains a record count of around 3,000 Rows. All the rows values are unique in nature. When we try to filter the same with the help of column header filter option available in the interactive report,We get only 1000 records.

Krish,
Interactive report has hard coded limit to display 1000 rows of column filter LOV for performance. Unfortunately, the limit cannot be changed. The workaround is to define a Column Filter LOV for the column instead of using "Default Based on Column Type".

• Sorting on columns with templated Report -- Named Column (row template)

Hi forum,
I'm trying to duplicate a regular report's column sorting functionality in a "Named Column" report.
The column headers are in the "Before first and after last row text" "Before Rows" area of the template :

Frequency
invoking this javascript:
function sortByColumn(regionId,colNo) {
var u = "f?p=124:401:&SESSION.:fsp_sort_" + colNo + "::RP&fsp_region_id="+regionId.substring(1);
document.location.href=u;
}I'd like to sort descending when a user clicks the column again, and to display the column sort arrows (up/down).
However, since sorting is persisted per user, even when the page's cache is cleared, it would be necessary to pick up the sort column and order (ascending,descending) on page load or query it later using ajax, so that the sort display (the arrows) stays in synch with the actual sort.
Has anyone got an idea how to do this?
Cheers

• Crystal Report multiple columns

I'm having trouble with Crystal Report's multiple columns in the detail section.
The details section, the multiple columns is checked then the printing direction is across - down. Since the form I am using is a pre-printed form, by estimation it can only allow at best 30 records in one page, that is 15 in the 1st half of the column and another 15 records on the next. For visual:
Invoice No Invoice Date invoice total Invoice No Invoice Date invoice total
1                                                                                16
2                                                                                17
3                                                                                .
.                                                                                28
14                                                                                29
15                                                                                30
For some reason there is this giant space after the last set of rows before it prints out the page footer. This giant blank section disrupts the layout of the page footer section.
Here are some info on the details section as configuration is involved:
Format with Multiple Columns - checked
In Paging: New Page after 30 visible Records
In Layout: Width: 3.5 in Height: 0.0 in
Horizontal: 0.0 in Vertical: 0.0 in
Printing Direction: Across-Down
Anyone knows how to suppress it or have the page footer move upwards?
P.S To see actual pre-printed form, please download this [http://www.mediafire.com/i/?csu0q75mjynys2k]
Edited by: Khristine Angelei Basilla on Mar 1, 2012 8:34 AM

Now why didn't I try that out. Actually, initial plan was 2 subreports.
So when I added the second subreport in the group footer section, it only prints the details on the last page, which should not be the case as I need to be printed on all pages.
I'll test it out. I'll post an update soon.
Thanks.

• Report Checkbox Columns in CSV Export File are NULL

Hi,
Hoping someone can assist. Am using Oracle ApEx 3.0.1.
I have a report that consists of a number of checkbox columns where I am using the Apex_Item.checkbox with a disabled attribute.
My questions is, when I attempt to export this report to CSV format, the columns referring to the checkboxes are showing up as NULL/blank, even though I am using a 'Y' and 'N' for the checkbiox values.
Any ideas on how to correct this issue?
Thanks.
Tony.

Tony. With checkboxes you don't get a value while exporting. You can use this as an alternative:
1. in the checkbox column properties put the following PL/SQL expression in the condition (expression 1 textbox):
apex_application.g_excel_format = FALSE
2. create a new column for your Y/N values and make it conditional - PL/SQL expression in the condition (expression 1 textbox):
apex_application.g_excel_format = TRUE
