Hi please let me know the differenece between report Sections & report Breaks, aprt from the basic & obvious differences.

Hello firstly we need to know wether the empty spaces are coming within database fields or is it coming around the data.
The around the data empty space means you have sections which aren't suppressed.
If the empty spaces are coming in the data, that means you have a Null value in those places. To convert those Null values into a value of 0, you have to click
File->Report Options--->Convert Other Null values to Default.

  • Multicolumn report: problem with continuous section breaks

    Hi All,
    There is a need to create RTF template which consists of 3 logical parts:
    (1) Static text -> some kind of header information;
    (2) Multicolumn (2 columns) text -> contract terms;
    (3) Static text -> information about signers;
    Here is a small screenshot as an example:

    The problem is that MS Word will place continuous section breaks before and after multicolumn part. And BI Publisher will transform these section breaks into page breaks. As a result each of 3 parts will be on its own page.
    Does anyone have a solution or workaround to avoid such behavior?
    Or can advice anything?

    P.S. Partly solution is to put the 1st part into page header. In this case MS Word won’t place continuous section break before multicolumn part. But still there is a problem with the 3rd part as it will go to separate page :(

    I've already tried such approach and unfortunately it didn't work.
    If there is only "2 column" text in main template with the subtemplate calls before and after text, then text from subtemplates is appended to 2 column text and also formated as "2 column" text.
    Here is an example files: URL was removed
    XML file is empty as at this moment it is not important.
    Purpose is to get all 3 sections without page breaks.
    Section 2 can be 2-3 pages big.

  • I can't delete section breaks in page,

    Hi there, this is my first time using sections in Pages. I've tried your online tutorials but I don't seem to be able to combine two sections together, because I can't work out how to delete the section breaks without deleting the document.
    The dotted blue line, which I imagine I'm supposed to be fn+delete-ing deletes the substance of the page also. I'm not sure if it makes much difference but the pages I'm working on are only using pictures.
    I need to get the sections right for my TOC.
    I really appreciate your help. I'm loving my mac, but this bits giving me a headache!

    Hi poolpony
    I suspect you have a lot of pictures mixed in with paragraph returns.
    When you have a combination of images with the default word wrap on, not quite filling up the width of the page they can interact in unpredictable ways. This can make them pop and disappear when the page they are on disappears from under them.
    Select the images and:
    +Inspector > Wrap > Object Placement > Floating+
    also:
    +Inspector > Wrap > uncheck Object Causes Wrap+
    Since there are many ways your returns, inline graphics, wrap and section breaks can interact, if you still have problems email me the file by clicking on my blue name and I'll fix it.

  • Large Word document imported into Pages with "Section Break Problems"

    Hi there,
    I am importing a large Word document with many photos (>250 pages) into Pages. Now, the problem is that when using the "page thumbnail" window to the left it marks all my windows with a yellow border.
    This means that I can't duplicate single pages - it will duplicate the whole stuff. Same thing for delete.
    I can go to the last character of each page and insert a "section break". This creates single pages. But it seems a bit odd to me, and with >250 pages, this is quite some work too.
    Any idea what I can do to solve quickly the issue?

    Sections are what they say they are natural breaks in the document.
    Each section usually having headers footers and other basic content in common.
    Effectively just like chapters in a book or specifically designed pages in a magazine or report.
    If your text naturally flows from one page to the next then they should stick together.
    If on the other hand you are treating them all like single leaves of paper to be shuffled around, then you need a section break at the end of each page.
    3 ways you can quickly do this:
    1. There is a unique start to each page such as a return followed by a particular word. You can search on this combination replacing it with a section break followed by the word.
    2. You can make a short cut to do this from the keyboard
    3. You can copy a section break and paste it at the end of each preceding page.
    4. You can transfer by copying and pasting the content into a Layout mode document where every page is its own section.
    As with most work, planning, organisation and thinking before you leap, pays off in the long run.

  • Section break not breaking in the correct place??

    I'm in the process of creating an eBook.
    There is a cover page, then the rest of the book.
    I would like to:
    1) have no headers or footers on the cover page.
    2) have page numbering start on the page after the cover page.
    I would think that this would be simply done by putting a section break on the first page. When I do that, the page numbering is correct.
    But!! When I modify the header/footer on the cover page, the header/footer on the second page changes too! (the third page stays in its original format)
    I only have a cover image on the first page.But it doesn't make any difference whether the image is floating or inline.
    Invisibles are on and viewable, showing me clearly that the section break is on the first page, yet the headers and footers on the first and second pages appear to be tied together????
    What am I doing wrong??

    A section and a break are pretty much the same in data processing terms.  However, in Business Objects, a section is a bit more fancier than a break in two regards:  1) the object that you make as a section "separates" from the grid; 2) the section is now eligible to become an item within your Map.  If you merely set a break on an object it remains in the grid and it does not become an item within your Map.
    I'm sure that others on this board can point out further delineations, but I''ve list a couple of obvious ones to give us a start.

  • Need help understandin section breaks or page breaks

    Hi there, was hoping I can gain a better undersrtanding of how to use section breaks and page breaks.
    I have typed several reports while using apple pages.  I click on the VIEW button on upper left corner and all the pages appear to run continously. I do not want that to continue to happen. How can I make each and every page its own page.  I have done it once years ago and have observed a this fine line below each page under the view option so that I may move or rearragne pages. Can someone please help?

    Pages 5.1 only lets you delete Sections, you can't drag them into place.
    You can Menu > Insert > Section Break on the bottom of every page or
    Setup > Document > uncheck Document Body which will delete all yout content in teh Document Body
    or Better still use Pages '09 which should still be in your Applications/iWork folder.

  • How to: Blank row on report between break group

    Hello,
    I'm using AppExp 2.2.1.00.04. I have a report region(based on a sql query) with 5 columns, the first column is the break column. I am using the query specific column (named columns?) setting. How can I get the formatted output to have a blank row between the different sections(break groups)?
    Example:
    Col1 Col2 Col3 Col4 Col5
    HR Smith J. dfs dfsf
    Jones H. djfsj skdfjsl
    SALES Green K. sdjfks jkjlkj
    Smith B. jkjkj jkljl
    I'm not sure if I should be looking in to a row template (never created one of those), or if this can be accomplished by using one of the fields supplied for break formatting (the "display this text before break columns")?

    Hi, I have a working method, and I wanted to post it in case anyone was trying to do what I was.
    First, I picked a column that I was selecting (but not displaying) and clicked on the Sum checkbox (the break formatting fields only work when you are also summing a column).
    Next, I placed the following code in the "...display this text before break columns" field:
    <tr><td colspan="5" >
    Then in the next field, I placed the following(without the quotes and spaces - I added them so that it would display here):
    "& nbsp ; "
    Finally, in the last field (labeled "...display this text after all break columns"), I closed out the row with:
    </td></tr>
    The only "issue" that I noticed is that at the end of the report, I have two empty rows. I'm guessing that they are because one is intended to display the break group total, and the other to display the report total. Oh well.

    This is my exact issue. Yet the instructions do not solve my problem completely. I add another section break at the end of my RTF and it gets the page to show...but I get an extra page at the end of all the populated xmls

  • Print to PDF from Word 2011 creates problems at section breaks

    I have a user trying to create a pdf of his thesis. He created the thesis on Microsoft Word 2011 for Mac, and we use Acrobat 10. It has a number of section breaks where he switches from portrait to landscape and back. When he tries to print to PDF, not only does the thesis get split into an individual document at each section break (annoying, but not a big issue), but when he tries to reassemble the document there is an adjustment in margin and several extra lines of space at the top of each section. I've seen workarounds such as opening the individual sections in Preview and stitching them together that way, but it still leaves the extra space at the beginning of each section break, as well as the adjustment in margin. Has anyone found a workaround for this?

    I had the same problem with a Word document and figured out the problem. Word seems to be spitting out separate PDF documents based on the page setup. So under File -> Page Setup you get a dialog box with the settings for the page, and usually a "Format for" dropdown and a "Paper Size" option. If these setting are not the same for the whole document, Word throws a wobbley and generates a PDF for each page setup.
    My solution (works where all of the pages are the same format).
    File -> Page Setup
    Settings: Choose "Microsoft Word" from the dropdown box
    Apply Page Setup settings to: Entire Document.
    This will setup up the entire document to use the same page settings, and will fix the problem for those of us who are wanting a document that all has the same page settings. (This won't work if you are mixing page sizes.)

  • How do I get a section break/page break when the item is greyed out?

    I've created an A4 document in word processing mode, with four identical A6 text boxes covering the entire page. Then I've created a second page with four more A6 text boxes so I can print a postcard on both sides of the card. Trouble is, Pages has made two extra text pages that I don't want, the first is linked to Pages 1 and 2, and the second is separate. I can't create a section break or page break because the command is greyed out, so I can't delete page 3. When I try and delete page 4, which is a stand alone page, it also deletes pages 2,3 and 4, leaving me with just page 1!
    I don't have any problem with page breaks or section breaks in an ordinary A4 document with just one text box on a page, but I often want to create multiple text boxes and when I do I have always had this problem, ever since Pages was first introduced. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong, please?

    Thank you, Yvan, but I've tried that. Firstly, I unchecked the headers and footers tick box in the Inspector because I want the postcards to be exactly A6 size, that is, one quarter of A4. I've tried making the lower two text boxes slightly smaller (which I don't really want to do, because I want them A6 size) but I still can't get the insertion point to appear below the text box – it stays resolutely in the next page and won't go back up to the previous page. Any further ideas? Thank you.

    There are a few ways to do this. Just write a function with a cursor and in the loop , create the output string.

  • BUG: iTunes Reporting Section Doubling Download Metrics

    I've found what seems to be a bug on the reporting section of the iTunes U metrics and am wondering if anyone else is experiencing this.
    I have attached a video to demonstrate what is happening, but essentially if I start counting metrics from Jan 2012, which is when Apple switched over to their new reporting system, the system doubles our number of downloads (among other things). If we start counting from Feb 2012 through the present, the metrics seem to be consistent with what Apple shows me on the front summary page.

    Sorry that I couldn't be of more help. Just for grins I tried the sequence again on a different Mac (MacBook Air, 10.8.2) with the same results...no change in the numbers. 
    Just as an experiment, have you tried resetting Safari?  It might be worth a try.  All the best...

  • How to change the header and footer in the Section Breaks Next Page using OpenXML?

    I have a word document file in which I added a Section Break of Next Page, now I want to change the header and footer of that page.
    Scenario of example, I have a doc file which has four pages with headers and footers and added fifth page in the section break next page, I want to change the header and footer of the fifth page only. This is achievable manually by deselecting the Link to Previous
    button in the Word Application but I don't know how to change it using XML?

  • Office 2010 mail merge with section breaks printing problem

    Afternoon all,
    We have an issue and I was wondering if anyelse has come across this and has a solution
    Our office staff do many mail merges and once the merge is complete they then can print the whole document with no problems or select one page and do print current page. The problem occurs when trying to print a range i.e. pages 5-7. Once you click print nothing happens, no errors and nothing comes out the printer.
    What I have found is that the mail merge is putting in section breaks between each page to seperate them but if I change these to page breaks in the document then I can select pages 5-7 and it prints with no problems.
    So the only solution I have found so far is to do a find/replace and find all ^b (section break) and replace with ^m (page break). This is obvioulsy takes more time and is a pain if we have to do this for every mail merge.
    I can't find any setting in the mail merge to tell it to use page breaks instead of sections breaks
    Has anyone else come across this probem, is it a office bug ???
