Reporting Services Preview Failure

I am migrating RS reports from SQL 2008 to SQL 2012.  As a first step I created a new solution in Visual Studio 2012 (Install includes VS 2012 Premium 32 bit, VS 2012 Update 2, SSDT-BI for VS 2012, SSDT-BI for VS 2012 Update and BIDS).
After creating the new solution I added existing rds and rdl files from my TFS production branch.  When I open a report in the VS designer it opens without a problem.  When I click on the preview tab the initial rendering of the report works
fine.  After I enter the parameters (a beginning and ending date) and click the view report button I get the following error message:
"An error occurred during local report processing.  An error has occurred during report processing."
Consequently I'm unable to preview the report.  If I build the report and deploy the report I get no error messages.  If I run the report on the reporting services server it runs and renders the results without a problem.  I'm just unable
to render the results within the VS Preview panel.
Given how uninformative the error message is does anyone have an idea what I should investigate next to track down the problem?

Hi Daeule,
Since the report runs properly after being deployed to the report server, there are no problems with the report definitions. To check whether the issue is caused by the SSDT which may not be upgraded properly, please try the following suggestions:
1. Click Start -> Visual Studio 2012 -> Visual Studio tools -> Visual Studio Command Prompt to start the command line tool.
2. Run the command to see whether the issue occurs in Visual Studio Safe Mode:
    devenv /safemode
3. If it can run properly, please run the following command lines and run the Visual studio again:
    devenv /resetSettings
If the issue persists, you can uninstall the SSDT installed by SQL Server (not Visual Studio), and then install the SSDT from the SQL Server 2012 installation media, and Microsoft SQL Server Data Tools - Business Intelligence for Visual Studio 2012.
If there are any error details displayed in the SSDT, please post them for further analysis.

  • SQL Server Reporting Services Subscriptions - Failure sending mail

    Hello All,
I am having a problem with using subscriptions to send my reporting services report by email.
      Getting the following error:
Failure sending mail: The message could not be sent to the SMTP server. The transport error code was 0x800ccc6d. The server response was 552 Error: message too large
While browsing for other reports in the report manager(reports created by others staffs), i could find that these reports were sent by email successfully.
So not understanding why mine has a problem. logically it could be that the report is too big?
Anybody has a solution or suggestion?
    Thanking you in advance

    Hi LenitaS,
For first question, we can check the item "IncludeLink" to embed the link in the mail. Or, embed the link the manually by putting a link in the "Comment" field. The URL should be a standard URL Access:
    http://<reportserver>/reprotserver?/reportpath&rc:format=<format>
For the second question, you are right. We can follow these setps to work around the issue:
1.Create a file shared subscription, save the export to a shared folder.
2.Create a E-Mail delivery subscription, embed the file's path in the mail. We can set the file's path in "Comment" field of the E-Mail delivery. The path should be someone like this:
    \\<sharedfolder>\<export report>
In this case, the exported report's name cannot be dynamic.
If there is anything unclear, please feel free to ask.
    Thanks,

  • Reporting Services Schedules failure

    Hi,
We are facing certain issue in reporting services. We were trying to change the timing of shared schedule and when hit the save button, it did not saved new timings but shown below error. Before changing the timings, schedule was working fine.
An internal error occurred on the report server. See the error log for more details. (rsInternalError)
    Get Online Help
There are two or more jobs named 'F9756B18-FEF6-4197-B790-172D908ABAAE'. Specify @job_id instead of @job_name to uniquely identify the job.
Now clicking on Manage shared schedule is also showing same error. We had faced same issue earlier once. ReportServer Database table Schedule is
showing single  schedule. Please help me to figure out the problem

    Hi ANREV107,
According to your description, you created a shared schedule and it works fine, when you tried to change time of it and click save button, the error message occurred.
I tried to reproduce the issue in my local machine, but it works fine for me to change time of shared schedule. To solve the problem, we need to go the SQL Server hosting the ReportServer database and delete one of the duplicate jobs with the id: 'F9756B18-FEF6-4197-B790-172D908ABAAE',
then delete the other from the report server UI.
If the problem remain unresolved, i would appreciate it if you could give us detailed error log(default location: %programfiles%\Microsoft SQL Server\<SQL Server Instance>\Reporting Services\LogFiles). It is helpful if you could provide more information
about how the situation occurred, the version of SQL Server. Does it happen often, or only when the report server is under load. It will help us move more quickly toward a solution.
    Thanks,

  • Windows Error Reporting service connection failure

For some reason unknown to me, the Windows Error Reporting service has now decided that it cannot send crash reports to Microsoft.
I get the above error when I try to "Check for a solution" from Review Problem Reports Dialog. "Trying again later"
does not work. I've tried several recommended "fixes" including scanning for corrupted system files, making sure the WER service is running, and, checking firewall issues. Sending crash reports used to work, so, I'm at a loss as to why this is happening.
Can anyone shed some light on a possible cause?
    Gort, Klaatu, Barada Nikto

Relating to the WER-Diagnostics, Vaseem posted some useful steps to resolve that issue here: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-performance/possible-heap-corruption-detected-exception-code/0657809a-a78b-48c7-9e6e-ac8ca97522c2
    Here are the steps suggested:
    Method 1:
Run System File Checker tool and check for missing or corrupted files follow the steps in the link:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833
    Method 2:
Open performance troubleshooter. Follow the steps in the link:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Open-the-Performance-troubleshooter
    Method 3:
If the above step fails follow these steps:
    Step a:
Restart computer in safe mode. Follow the steps from the link:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Start-your-computer-in-safe-mode
    Step b:
If safe mode works then try in clean boot. Follow the steps from the link:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135
Follow the step 7 from the article to “Reset the computer to start as usual”, after performing the clean boot troubleshooting.
Also follow the steps in the link:

  • DPM 2010 installation failure (SQL-server Reporting Services Problem)

    Hi everyone,
The last 2 days I have been trying to get DPM 2010 installed on a DC. I know this is not recommended, but for our company with the current setup it's the only way to do it.
I have been reading some Microsoft articles (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff399416.aspx) about doing this but I fail to do so.
I have made all of the right service accounts (I guess) and am doing everything in the guide but still get the same error message over and over again:
Setup has detected that the installation of Reporting Services is not correctly configured or no instance of Reporting Services is linked to DPM2010 of SQL Server
I just can't get my head around it. This is the error message when I try to install DPM 2010 using an existing SQL-database which I have configured in the SQL 2008-server sp1 installation.
I have enclosed some screenshots so you could maybe check some things that are not correct? Hopefully we can get this issue resolved, because it's driving me crazy to be honest!
Physical server which is ADC and where I need to install SQL-server and DPM: VMBACKUP
The service account for DPM is: DPMSQLSvcsAcct
Also have another service account: DPMR$VMBACKUP
I have also enclosed the error log located in C:\DPMLogs\

This is the DOM error log:

    Hi,
Based on the description, I understand that you want to add subreport in the main report. When previewing the main report, the subreport can be shown in detail. Please see the screenshots on my test:
In Reporting Services, we can create parameters and pass them from main report to subreport in order to control the data dynamically.

  • Reporting Services as a generic service in a failover cluster group?

There is some confusion on whether or not Microsoft will support a Reporting Services deployment on a failover cluster using scale-out, and adding the Reporting Services service as a generic service in a cluster group to achieve active-passive high
    availability.
A deployment like this is described by Lukasz Pawlowski (Program Manager on the Reporting Services team) in this blog article
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/lukaszp/archive/2009/10/28/high-availability-frequently-asked-questions-about-failover-clustering-and-reporting-services.aspx. There it is stated that it can be done, and what needs to be considered when doing such a deployment.
This article (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb630402.aspx) on the other hand states: "Failover clustering is supported only for the report server database; you
cannot run the Report Server service as part of a failover cluster."
This is somewhat confusing to me. Can I expect to receive support from Microsoft for a setup like this?
    Best Regards,
    Peter Wretmo

    Hi Peter,
    Thanks for your posting.
    As Lukasz said in the
blog, failover clustering with SSRS is possible. However, during the failover there is some time during which users will receive errors when accessing SSRS since the network names will resolve to a computer where the SSRS service is in the process of starting.
Besides, there are several considerations and manual steps involved on your part before configuring the failover clustering with SSRS service:
Impact on other applications that share the SQL Server. One common idea is to put SSRS in the same cluster group as SQL Server.  If SQL Server is hosting multiple application databases, other than just the SSRS databases, a failure in SSRS may cause
a significant failover impact to the entire environment.
SSRS fails over independently of SQL Server.
If SSRS is running, it is going to do work on behalf of the overall deployment so it will be Active. To make SSRS Passive is to stop the SSRS service on all passive cluster nodes.
So, SSRS is designed to achieve High Availability through the Scale-Out deployment. Though a failover clustered SSRS deployment is achievable, it is not the best option for achieving High Availability with Reporting Services.

  • Reporting Services username and password prompting

We have several branch office locations and one reporting services server. All of the branch office locations can access the reporting services server, but we have one location for the passed week, each time they make a connection to this server, it prompts
them for a username and password and will not allow them to connect even if the correct username and password is correct.
I have tried adding the server to the IE intranet/trusted site list. Set IE security on all zones to automatically logon with current username and password.
What is strange is that this is the only branch office site that is having this issue. It is almost like kerberos is broken for this site location only.
DOes anyone has any suggestions what could be causing this problem for all computers in this one location. Nothing has changed on their local servers nor have we pushed any updates to the machines.

    Hi bubba1984,
As per my understanding, I think this issue is caused by Kerberos authentication. Kerberos is an authentication protocol that allows clients that create authentication tokens to associate a specific destination to that token. In the failure case, there is
a mismatch between the destination specified in the token and the report server process configuration. Due to this mismatch, the underlying Kerberos authentication scheme supported by Windows prevents report server from authenticating the user.
To fix this issue, please try to remove RSWindowsNegotiate and ensure RSWindowsNTLM is specified in the rsreportserver.config file. For more details, please take the following article as reference:
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/lukaszp/archive/2008/03/26/solving-the-reporting-services-login-issue-in-the-february-ctp-of-sql-server-2008.aspx
    Hope this helps.

  • How to Convert MM/DD/YYYY to YYYY/MM/DD in SQL Reporting Services

i am having difficulty of converting a parameter field, called @startdate, on sql reporting services report to YYYY/MM/DD format.  the parameter @Startdate was set to Data/Time.  @Startdate is 6/1/2014 12:00:00 and I want to convert it
to 2014/06/01.  I want to compare @Startdate with a column in database called Begindate which is in format of YYYY/MM/DD hh:mm:ss.  I tried the followings
select * from Atable where cast(Atable.Begindate as date) >= cast(@Startdate as date)
select * from Atable where cast(Atable.Begindate as date >= cast(convert(datetime, @Startdate) as date)
SQL Reporting Services only gives me Text, Boolean, Date/Time, Integer and Float.
    Regards,

    Hi Elmucho,
Sorry for the delay. I tested with the sample data you provided, however everything works well in-house. Could you please creste a new report and check the result. Here are the steps I performed:
    1.  Create a table and insert the following data:
Name (varchar(50))    Begindate (datetime, not null)
    Lastdate (datetime, not null)
    bob
    2008-01-01 08:08:08.000      2010-10-10
    10:10:10.000
    alice
    2010-10-10 10:10:10.00       2011-11-11
      11:11:11.000
    smith
    2011-11-11 11:11:11.00       2012-12-12
    12:12:12.000
    2. Open SQL Server Data Tools, create the data source and add the dataset with the below query:
    SELECT     Name, Begindate, Lastdate
    FROM         [tablename ]
WHERE     (CAST(Begindate AS date) >= CAST(@Startdate AS date)) AND (CAST(Lastdate AS date) <= CAST(@Enddate AS date))
    3. Then, click execute button, it prompts for inputting the parameter value.
    @Startdate
    6/1/2008
    @Enddate
    5/1/2014
Enter the date and press OK.
    4. Here is the result in the query designer:
Insert a table and fields. Save the report and preview:
    Thanks.

  • SSRS in SharePoint Mode: Reporting Services scale-out deployment is not supported in this edition of Reporting Services [not true]

    Hello,
We are experiencing some issues with SharePoint 2013 which is driving me insane.
We have a deployment with two SQL Servers (HA groups) and four SharePoint servers: 2 Application servers, and 2 Web FrontEnd servers.
We installed SSRS for SharePoint in both application servers. The disc I have used is the MSDN image of SQL Enterprise 2012 w/ SP2.
    ISO name: en_sql_server_2012_enterprise_edition_with_service_pack_2_x64_dvd_4685849.iso
    MD5: 003e14c55fa648ad15f8be1e2439bd06
The installation completes without any problems. We can start the SSRS SharePoint Service in the first application server without any issues. However when we try to start the second one, we get the following error:
Reporting Services scale-out deployment is not supported in this edition of Reporting Services. This edition only supports one instance of the sql reporting services service in the farm. The SQL Server Reporting Services cannot be started on
this server unless it is stopped on all other servers in the farm.
Now I am at a loss here. As I mentioned, we have used an image of SQL Server Enterprise. This is the same image we used on other environment, which worked as expected (we got no such error).
I have included the text related to the correlation error from the SP logs below.
Has anyone ever seen this issue before? Very, very strange!

    P.

    Hi Wynn,
I appreciate your attempt to address my concerns, but even your reply seems to ignore the fact that I have not only provided the name of the ISO, but the MD5 checksum of the ISO as well. Also this is the first time I am being asked to double-check the version
of SSRS. The first reply I got to my query simply disregarded the version mismatch.
As per your request, I have checked under the folder you have specified (C:\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\Web Server Extensions\15\WebServices\LogFiles), but unfortunately there are no files under this folder in neither of my two application
    servers.
    We only have logfiles under C:\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\Web Server Extensions\15\LOGS
Is there a way I can turn those logs on?

I hope this help while we don't have any logfiles in the folder you asked me to look into. Please advise me as in how to proceed if logfiles must be generated.

  • Why do I get "Insufficient memory to continue the execution of the program" in SQL Service Report Services

    Hi fellas,
I'm facing some serious issues with SSRS. I've tried to create a map report in SQL server reporting service 2008R2. I've insert a map using ESRI shapefile and connected it to my Dataset. Everything seemed to be fine up until I've tried to preview the results
    and I got this:
I've tried to resolve the problem by increasing the "MaximumTotalPc", but then I got this:
Ever since this happened my SSRS is acting like it has gotten a virus. I've tried to delete the report, but it doesn't let me and the window I've posted above keeps on popping up every few seconds while the program is open.
Any idea why do I get it and how can I deal with it?
P.S. I'm not any kind of developer and I'm not really familiar with the technical language. I need an explanation written in user friendly language, please :-)

    Hi Ellie55,
According to your description that you are experiencing the issue when you are creating the ESRI shapefile map on the SSRS 2008 R2, you got some error “the number of map point elements for “Map1” exceeds the maximum limits for map” when you click  to
preview the map, you trying to set the properties of “MaximumTotalPointCount” to fix this issue but cause another error about the “insufficient memory”, right?
By default, a map can have 20,000 map elements or 1,000,000 points. If your map exceeds these limits, you can increase the MaximumTotalPointCount and the MaximumSpatialElementCount, but it may cause the insufficient memory because of the too much points
and elements. So I recommend you that you can use one of the following approaches for you have got problem increase the limitations:
    Remove a layer.
    Decrease the map resolution.
Decrease the map viewport coordinates to view a smaller area.
If the spatial data comes from a report dataset, set a filter to limit the data from the dataset. The filter must be set on a field that is not a spatial data type.
If the spatial data comes from a SQL Server database, change the query to use spatial functions to limit the data to a smaller area.

As you this error also caused you can’t delete the report, please try to close the program in the task manager and find the path of project in your computer to delete the .rdl file in your workspace and redesign the map again.
Any problem, please feel free to ask

    Hi Mario,
According to your description, when you try to access the Report Manager in another client, a login dialog prompt. After typing a valid username and password 3 times, a blank page displays.
Generally, the issue is always caused by the Report Server is configured to use Kerberos authentication, while the Service Principal Name(SPN) is not configured correctly. To fix this issue, please refer to the following methods:
Register an SPN for the Report Server service under the domain user account.
Change the service account to run under a built-in account such as Network Service.
Remove RSWindowsNegotiate and ensure RSWindowsNTLM is specified in the rsreportserver.config file.
Besides, the issue can also be caused by the Internet Explorer (IE) didn't pass the user's credential to the Report Server automatically or the IE is not Windows Integrated enabled. For more detail steps about how to address this issue, please refer to the
    following steps:

    Message
Login failed for user '[domain]\[authorized service account]'. Reason: Token-based server access validation failed with an infrastructure error. Check for previous errors. [CLIENT: <local machine>]
I don't even know where to start on this.  Reporting services and replication were working fine before the vendor started poking around.  I don't know what (if anything) they changed.  The logs show that the ReportService database and the
ReportServicesTempDB had indices restored just before the error started showing up.
    Help?

    Hi goodros_nemesis,
If you’re getting a login failed for your Windows user which you’re sure you put in the sysadmins role. And based on the error message “Login failed for user '[domain]\[authorized service account]'. Reason: Token-based server access validation failed with
an infrastructure error. Check for previous errors. [CLIENT: <local machine>]”, it’s probably because UAC isn’t passing all your group memberships to SSMS when you run it, and therefore giving you access denied.
To fix this issue, please try right clicking and running as administrator and seeing if it goes away. Of course if we added our user explicitly we’re probably fine, but just to get a cluster up and running. We can add domain admins user to the DB, and of
course that’s a membership that UAC will mask.
If there are any misunderstanding, please elaborate the issue for further investigation.
    Thanks,
    Katherine Xiong

    Hi
the issue here is that one of the developers altered the procedure dbo.CreateObject proc which prevented the report manager from uploading (creating ) new reports to
    SQL Server .
I restored the proc from another SSRS SQL Reporting Server and it fixed the issue.
    thanks
