Reports in .pdf , .xls files....

Hi,
I have a requirement that the reports should be extracted/printed in .pdf and/or .xls files....
I know that these types of files can be generated via the use of XML Publisher... So , do i have to develop the reports using the XML Publisher only(without the use of report builder).... in order to cover this requirement.....????
Note: i use EBS 11.5.10.2
Thank you,
Sim

Sim,
That is correct. However, you can generate PDF reports using Reports Builder in 11i with some restrictions.

    Hi Mahi,
I know Venkat has blogged about this subject in the past; http://oraclebizint.wordpress.com/2008/02/07/oracle-bi-ee-101332-combining-multiple-excel-report-outputsworkbooks-to-a-single-excel-report-using-bi-delivers-bi-publisher-apis-and-vb-scripts/
Never tried this out myself, but maybe it works for you.

  • Webi Reports - Stale data when saved a pdf/xls

Hi Webi Guru's - we have a peculiar issue in our BOBJ Production system.
To give you a bit of background on our production system - is hosted on
    O/S - EL 2.6
    Database - Oracle 11g
    IE version - 9
2 Tomcat 6 servers, load balanced using F5 load balancer
3 CMC cluster servers and 1 Oracle Database server
    CMC has BW 731 authentication
    Problem Description -
Open any WEBI report. Pass a set of parameters. Most of the reports have from and todate as input parameters.
On the first attempt we pass the fromdate = 5th May 2014, todate = 10th May 2014. Save the report as pdf/xls file. Saves with the correct data.
Refresh the webi report - provide different set of date range as, fromdate = 12th May 2014, todate = 20th May 2014. Save the report as pdf/xls file. This time though the report brings out correct data set, when saved as a pdf/xls file, saves with data from date range that was passed the first time which was  fromdate = 5th May 2014, todate = 10th May 2014
Have checked with our network team regarding if caching is enabled on tge F5 loadbalancer - an there is none.
I did raise a incident with SAP support and it was closed down saying it is a third party issue at the load balancer level and recomended that I could check with the SCN community..
Has anyone in the BI/BOcommumity come across this sort of problem before where you you have split installations and your web server is load balanced.
Any help will be much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Savitha

Hi Amit - thanks for your reply.
If we run the reports directly from both the Web/Tomcat server - we get the correct result set saved in the PDF/XLS file. But it is not the case when we access the reports from the Load balanced URL. When we went live initially we had only one tomcat server, due to performanance issues we added additional tomcat server and since then we are noticing this issue.
The immediate thing that came to our mind was - if there was a caching option enabled at the load balancer level. The network team have confirmed that it is not the case.
We have enabled HTTPWatch to see if there was anything obvious we could spot - but there is nothing from the logs  which stands out either.
The issue is only when we save the reports as in PDF/XLS format - saves the data with prompts from the previous refresh.
    Hope it all makes sense.
    Thanks
    Savitha

  • Reports to XLS files

    Hi All,
    Needed some urgent informarion:
    1. Can we export reports from Oracle Reports 10g to XLS files? If yes, how is this done? Any documentation available?
    2. Can reports from developer suite be pushed to a dot matrix printer? If yes, how is this done?
Needed this information on high priority. Any suggestions would be helpful.
    Thanks

    Hello,
If you are using Reports 10gR2, you can use DESFORMAT=SPREADSHEET
    http://www.oracle.com/webapps/online-help/reports/10.1.2/topics/htmlhelp_rwbuild_hs/rwwhthow/whatare/output/output_a_simpleexcel.htm
Oracle Reports 10g Release 2 (10.1.2) introduces a spreadsheet output format, which enables you to generate output with rich formatting from paper layout reports to Microsoft Excel-compatible HTML format that can be directly opened with Microsoft Excel 2000 or higher.
If you are using an "older" version, you have to generate a CSV file (comma separated values) with DESFORMAT=DELIMITED or DESFORMAT=DELIMITEDATA
For your question 2 , if you are on Windows, Reports will use the Windows Printer Driver to send the output to the printer. So it will work even for a Dot Matrix Printer

  • Scheduled report subscription only writes file once

Early in our SCCM 2012 roll out we want regular updates how many machines are active.
We have configured a Report Subscription to save the report as an XLS file on a file share - Daily schedule for 08:00AM - the first file was forced at 11:23AM on 17/09/2013 and the daily updates were not generated though the schedule ran and reported the
    failure.
The subscription writes one file to the share at first scheduled time and at next scheduled time reports "Failure writing file \\Server\share\reports\file.xls : a log on error occurred when attempting to access the file share. The user account or password
    is not valid"
To confirm username and password I logged on to a Win7 workstation with those credentials. I then browsed to the reports directory on the share and created a new blank file. THis confirmed credentials are correct and the user has permissions to write new
    files to the share.
By changing something about the subscription delivery (e.g. overwrite files or increment file names or changing the file name) the next schedule will write the file. I am forcing the re-try by changing the schedule time and receiving the above error.
The original schedule was Daily and changing the time to get it to re-run today caused the failure. When I changed the schedule to Hourly (every 5 minutes) and changed the file name the report ran every 5 minutes successfully. I have reverted to the Daily
schedule ans set it to run at 7am so we'll see next week whether this has resolved the problem
It is clear that the message is not accurately describing the problem.
    Anthony

    Hi,
    Windows File Share Delivery Options
There are three options for overwriting. The second option-Do not overwrite an existing file-demonstrates that
if the report file already exists, no action will be taken.
Overwrite   an existing file with a newer version
If   the report file already exists, it will be overwritten with the new version.
Do   not overwrite an existing file
If   the report file already exists, no action will be taken.
Increment   file names as newer versions are added
If   the report file already exists, the new report will have a number added to   the file name to distinguish it from other versions.

  • No link after exporting Crystal report as pdf file

    Hello,
If my Crystal Report contain link to the .avi file saved on the local hard disk and if I export the Report as .pdf file, pdf file does not contain that link. Why?
    The overall scenario is like-
My application fires a query on SQL Server database and result of that query is stored in a Dataset. This dataset is set as a datasource to the Crystal report.  Now some, records (returned by the query) have .avi files(i.e. Event Videos which are stored on the local hard disk) associated with them. I have stored these .avi files in a specific path on local Hard disk say "C:/EventVideos/*.avi" .   I used a special format in these avi files name. (like - "EventVideo_1.avi" (This is for 1st event), "EventVideo_5.avi" (This is for 5th event)etc. to identify which avi is for which event. All events do not have avi files associated with them)
Now, I take one object in crystal report. Using it's Format editor created a formula for hyperlink as -
          "file:///c:/EventVideos/EventVideo_" + {DataTable1.EventID} + ".avi" .
EventID is the field of dataset which has ID's (like 0, 1, 2,  3, 4 etc) of all resulted events. It is of a String data type.
Now when I export, my report as .xls, .rtf, .doc, I can open the avi files. When I bring cursor on this object, cursor get change to Hand and after click on it avi file start to play.
But if I export it as .pdf, it does not contain the link for avi files. When I bring cursor on this object, it does not change to Hand, and after click on it nothing happens. No video play.
    I stick to this problem.
    Appreciate your help.
    Thanks in advance.

    Taken from CR Help File:
"PDF format is a page-based format. The exported documents are intended for printing and redistribution. PDF format will export both layout and formatting in a manner that is consistent with how the report looks on the Preview tab. PDF format embeds the TrueType fonts that appear in the document. (Non-TrueType fonts are not supported.) This export format does not support Microsoft font-linking technologyu2014which is used to provide support for some extended character sets such as Chinese HKCS. Therefore, the fonts used in the report must contain all of the required glyphs. These URI types are supported for hyperlinks: "http:", "https:" and "mailto:".
Therefore your hyperlink is not working as u are using File type when cr only supports http https and mailto uri types

  • Excel 2013 hangs when previewing xls file made by Reporting Server 2008

    Hi all.
I have a unusual error in excel 2013. We have a homepage that delivers statics to our users and there you can choose to export the webpage to a xls file via SQL ReportingServer 2008. The thing is when I open this exported file in Excel and hit the print
button, excel crashes. It seems to crash during the preview of the document. If I make a document by hand that has exactly the same format as the exported document, excel will preview and print it.
I have tried to change default printer and printer drivers but no success. Office 2013 is also up to date.
If I save the document from SRSS and try to print it from another computer with Excel 2013 installed, it crashes Excel.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi,
Did you use another Excel file to preview or print? Did the Excel crash again?
I recommend we export a different webpage to a XLSX, then we test it again.
I notice that you try to print the document from another compute and also crashed Excel.
Following this, I suppose that there were some underidentified characters in the file.
After that, I suggest we save as the file to PDF to test.
    Regards,
    George Zhao
    TechNet Community Support
I have tried printing another excelfile without problems. Infact I can make a replica manually of the report and print it without problem. I can't narrow it down to either a RS fault or Excel fault cause the logfiles don't say much. If I export the report
to a PDF it prints fine, but my users will complain about lack of editing :-)
If I save the xls file to xlsx and tries to print it also hangs in print preview.
An interesting thing is when i export the file to PDF/XPS (PDF in this case) it also hangs Excel...
How do I look for underidentified
characters in the file? I don't see anything in the spreadsheet.

  • Send report via email as xls file.

    Hello from Spain,
Sorry if this is not the correct forum. It's both a forms and reports question, but I think it fits better in the reports forum. I have queried into the forums for similar questions and found some threads without any replies around this same issue. I wish I am lucky today.
I have developed some web forms which generate pdf and txt reports. The latter ones make use of desformat=delimiteddata when calling the reports. They run fine. I have also developed one form which suscribes those reports to email addresses. To do so, I am setting those email addresses in the DESNAME reports parameter and setting DESTYPE parameter as MAIL. They arrive as an attachment with pdf or txt extensions.
Now, I am required to deliver those reports as xls files. I have been reading that desformat=spreadsheet would allow me to do so (as well as formatting the reports and make them look "cuter" than by using just delimiteddata), but have been unable to do it so far. When setting desformat=spreadsheet, reports are sent via email as html attachments, and when they are opened they look awful. Is there any way I can do this? It shouldn't be a too big deal, but I feel completely unable.
    Thank you,
    Fernando G.
