Restored iPhone Factory settings, now computer goes haywire

I just received a new iPhone for the holiday, and I've updated iTunes and everything needed for it to sync with my computer. The person who gave it to me as a gift had already changed the name and put some files on it during the activatino process, and to be sure everything was in order. I wanted to personalize it myself, so I restored the factory settings, which took about ten minutes to complete. As soon as it completed, my computer restarted without any warning, and I figured that was normal. Everytime I restarted Windows with the iPhone already in the dock, the computer would suddenly restart as soon as iTunes tried to read it. It did this a couple of times, so I removed the iPhone, and everything was working normally, until I placed it back in the dock, which made the computer restart again. I've used Google desperately searching for some insight on this problem, and haven't found anything close. I attempted to call Apple, but unfortunately they're closed for the holiday, and I will have to try again tomorrow. I'm too impatient, so now I'm coming here to see if anyone can offer any help about this. Thanks in advance.

This happened to me once when i plugged my iphone into my computer after i had turned on one of my externel drives that i normaly have turned off. What was happening was when i plugged in the iphone it was trying to use the same drive letter as the external drive. Once i turned off the external drive i had no problems so you might be having a driver conflict. Hope this helps.
