  • Restore image from smb/afs share using Disk Utility

    Hi,
Im looking at using a quick way to "pick up" and restore a dmg (Disk Utility) created image from a network share using Disk Utility. Ive tried using HTTP but the image is 60+gb and takes ages to download to the client.
Is there any way I can tell the Disk Utility to restore from a network share. Ive tried the usual smb:// but it doesnt work.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just as an addition. When I click on the "Image" button I do see my xserve server. Its the only shared/network connection I can see. Where can I dump up my dmg file onto this server so I can see it from Disk Utility?
    Many thanks,

  • Help.. cannot add user on restored image to xserve

    Hello;
After a hardware failure of a 10.5.8 ical server I restored the ccc image to a brand new xserve (purchased early 2009).
All looks good until I log into wgm... authenticate to ldap... and see that the new user button is greyed out, all editing capabilities are gone...
I am panicked and don't know what I did wrong?
    Thanks.

Wow, that was obscure, thanks for posting an update with the solution. Maybe you save someone from the same issue or answer the question for someone in future and save them the trouble you went through.

  • Restoring images from Time Machine?

    Hello,
I deleted some master images that should not have been deleted.
    I am using Aperture 2.1.4.
In the mean time I added many new images, before I found out that the images were deleted.
Anyway I can get these back with Time Machine?
    Thank you

You should be able to just do a restore of the directory where the images were, using the normal Time Machine restore process / UI . I am not sure of the restore is an additive action or a replacing one. To be safe I would make a backup of that directory to be restore to some other neutral third location. Do the restore to get your files and see what you have then. Manually patch things up from there if needbe.

  • Cannot Restore Image From External USB

    Hello,
I am trying to restore an image I made from a Surface Pro 2, a Windows 8, and a Windows 8.1 computer and I get the same results from all 3 computers.  The backup is successful on all 3 computers, but I am not able to restore the image.  When I
try to restore, Windows says it cannot find an image.  I tried it on an external Seagate 500 GB HD, an Hitachi 3TB external HD, a blank HD in a USB enclosure, and a Seagate 3TB external HD.   The only time Windows was able to see the image
was when I copied it to the Seagate 3TB drive.  Does there have to be something configured on the drive before Windows 8 can see the image?

  • Trying to restore image from external drive

I made a backup image in Windows 7, and stored it on my external WD 500gb My Book. Now, I've loaded the PC from the Recovery Disc, and it doesn't see or recognize my external HD. There's the option to install drivers for the external device, but WD says they don't have the drivers.......they should be included in Windows. Anyone else have this problem?
P.S. The external drive works fine besides this.

Have you made another image backup or scheduled Windows Backup on the external hard drive or the other partition?
You may pay attention to the prompt information when backup.
Keeping different versions of system images
If you're saving your system images on an internal or external drive, or on CDs or DVDs, you can keep several versions of system images. On internal and external hard drives, older system images will be deleted when the drive runs out of space. To help conserve disk space, you can manually delete older system images. For more information, see What backup settings should I use to maximize my disk space?
If you're saving your system images in a network location, you can only keep the most current system image for each computer. System images are saved in the format of drive\WindowsImageBackup\computer name\. If you have an existing system image for a computer and are creating a new one for the same computer, the new system image will overwrite the existing one. If you want to keep the existing system image, you can copy it to a different location before creating the new system image by following these steps:
    1. Navigate to the location of the system image.
    2. Copy the WindowsImageBackup folder to a new location.

  • Restoring Images from  Backup?

I went to the Apple Store today because my iPhone has been having problems, the battery has been draining way too quick. The guy in the store did diagnosis on it and said it was a problem with my software and said he had to reinstall it like it was a new iPhone. When he was done and I got home I realized I did not have my photos from the phone backed up anywhere, other then in the iPhone backup that iTunes runs. Can anyone tell me how I can restore these photos PLEASE? I am quite upset because I have many photos of my dog who passed away this past September on there.
    I appreacite any help!
    Thanks,
    Tom

The only photos that are a part of your phone's backup are photos that were in your camera roll. If you have not synced since you got home, you may be able to restore these photos if they were included in your phone's backup. First disable auto sync when an ipod/iphone is connected under preferences in itunes. In windows, this is in the edit menu. Connect your phone, DO NOT SYNC, right click the phone in the device pane & select restore from backup. Select your most recent backup, if more than one is listed. This must be followed by a sync to restore your itunes content. If the photos in question were in that backup, they will be restored to your phone.

  • Zen image from 2 to 1 HDD

I have problem with restore image from a PC with 2 HDD to 1 HDD.
There one is too small and I will like to restore everything on 1 HDD.
The one HDD is 1 TB so there is room enough.
A restore just restored the 2 partitions (system partition and win7 c disk) one the small disk to the big disk not the 2 other partitions. (I have disconnected the small disk)
Any idea how to do it ????
    Zenworks 11 sp3 (updated)

    Torhowden,
I'd restore the image of the first disk as normal then restore the
    second disk, using -ap=a11 perhaps?

  • How can I restore a single image from an aperture time machine backup, do I have to restore the entire library? that does not make sense

I hope there has been found a more efficiant solution for this,  how can I restore a single image from an aperture time machine backup, I really hope I don't have to restore the entire library? that does not make sense
    any suggestions?

Did you try browsing your backups in the Finder ?  That is, do not go and "Enter Time Machine".  Instead, navigate to your Time Machine backup via Finder and then manually go to the time period (by folder name) you are looking for ... when you find your Aperture library you can then "Show Package Contents" and find the Master you are looking for.

  • Creating an image from a Mac and restoring it in another Mac

    Hi,
I've spent a couple of hours trying to make a copy of one of my macminis, trying to copy it in another macmini to have the SAME machine "duplicated".
I've read some tutorials online, but something is going wrong....
First of all, I went to my "master" macmini, DiskUtility, create new image from folder, select my macintosh HD and I created the image of the whole HD.
Almost a hour after, the image was created.
Then I moved the .dmg to a USB drive, and I connected the USB pen to the machine that I want to be a "clone" of the master. There, I opened Disk Utility, Restore, I selected the Source image from my USB, but I can't selected (=drag) the Macintosh HD into the "destination" field...
    What I'm doing wrong?
Thanks, any help is appreciated :))

    Hi sr.richie;
If you are booted from Macintosh HD then the system will not allow this cloning operation to take place. You must boot from another disk in order to do that.

  • Restore single image from managed library

How does one restore a single image from a library, either managed or referenced. It seems that in Time Machine one does not have access to the individual files in a managed library as one does from the Finder.
Is my conclusion then, that in order to be able to recover individual file(s) one should use a referenced library?

The Aperture Restore from Vault as you know saves your current library and restores all managed photos from the Vault. Note, previews are not stored on the Vault so they need to be regenerated (at least that was true in Aperture 2 but I have not done a restore in Aperture 3).
Referenced images are not stored on the Aperture Library or Aperture Vault, just the adjustments you make to the image. So if your image is mangled, but you know the external referenced image displays fine, say, in Preview, then something may have gone wrong with the adjustments or raw conversion etc. You can remove all adjustments on the mangled image and see if that corrects the display problem.
If the external image itself is corrupted, then Time Machine will restore it hopefully to a prior 'good' version as you know. The contents of an Aperture Library can be individually referenced via the Finder but it's not something where you can replace any of the contents as I understand that will damage your library integrity.

  • RESTORE SYSTEM FROM DISK IMAGE

    Hi people,
I was wandering if anyone could help me with this little thing. I hate Time Machine, so that's not a viable solution for my inquiry. What I want to do is migrate my whole SL system from my old MacBook to my new one. Is it possible to create a Disk Image of my old MacBook's Hard Drive with Disk Utility or any other software and then restore SL from it in my new one?
*I know many of you may think TM is great, but I don't like it, so PLEASE spare me from lectures on why I should use it. I know I sound harsh, but every time I post something like this ten out of every eleven responses are about that.
*PLEASE, I BEG you, don't inquire upon why I want to do it this way. Again, I sound mean, but most of the responses I get are usually a pile of uselessness that just takes up space and doesn't help.
Thanks a lot for your time,
    ThePhazonMonkey

Thomas is right. Restoring an older Mac's "whole SL system" (which I take to mean the entire contents of its startup disk) to a different one is a bad idea, whether you do it with a disk image, clone, or that app you hate so much.
In the first place, there is no guarantee that the OS version on an older Mac will have all the files needed to support the newest ones, so all you may get for your efforts is a new Mac that won't boot at all or kernel panics soon afterwards.
In the second, there is no guarantee that all the user & system settings from one Mac will be compatible with those of another. The OS will do its best to compensate for this, for instance by using defaults when the other Mac's settings are invalid or incompatible, but the process is not foolproof & you may experience instabilities or unexpected behavior that will be hard to track down & remedy.
Do as Thomas suggests & use Migration Assistant, or better yet use Setup Assistant on the first startup of a new Mac to avoid any problems with duplicate user account names. (You cannot merge two existing user accounts with any automated software because each has its own set of home folder items that will conflict with the other's, so you must manually choose which ones to use with the account you want to keep.)

  • Question on Restore,Recovery from Image Copy in RAC

    version: 11.2.0.3
    Platform : AIX 6
    Found the following in
    http://www.oracleracexpert.com/2011_12_01_archive.html
    SYS@DBTEST>startup mount
    SYS@DBTEST>switch database to copy;
    SYS@DBTEST>Recovery the database;
SYS@DBTEST>Alter database open; The author of the blog says
"Please note that we didn’t restore backup from backup disk or media, we have pointed the database to backup. "
So, how will this work for restores in RAC ? Because, after the 'switching' to a datafile which is now disk based only one of the instance will be able to acess that datafile. Right ?
Even if we be cross-mount the backup location to both nodes , the datafile will still not be in the ASM diskgroup where it was originally stored ?

The blog is "oracleracexpert" but the notes on Incrementally Updated backups at http://www.oracleracexpert.com/2011/12/rman-incrementally-updated-backups.html are NOT necessarily for RAC.
The backup is done to '/oradata/rman/backup.%u' which may not be a filesystem accesible by all the notes.
If you really want to implement Incrementally Updated Backups with the ability to SWITCH DATABASE TO COPY for a RAC environment, your backup destination must
    (a) asupported Cluster FileSystem (*not* Oracle ACFS which is not to be used for Database Files)
    OR
    (b) an ASM DiskGroup accessible by all the nodes.
