Restricted port forwarding
Hi
I would like to configure port forwarding for only one remote address.
The situation is like this: I have two domains ( adddresses 10.0.0.0/8 and 192.168.1.0/24 ) and a very narrow minded router that only allows port 80 en 443 and in one direction. Servers in 192.168 also have an exta nic with 10.20 addresses.
The server at 10.10.10.38 needs to connect to MySQL in the other domain so I thought I could use port 443 and forward it to 3306.
When I use "netsh interface portproxy" I cannot restrict to 10.10.10.38 (everyone gets access), but configuring a firewall rule with local port=3306, remote port=443 for remote IP address 10.10.10.38 does not function as a port forwarder (so no-one
gets access).
How should I configure the firewall (Windows Server 2008 R2) ?

Hi Rob,
First, let us learn more details about portproxy and clarify our thoughts. We configure the Windows Server 2008 R2 as the portproxy server.
When we use "netsh interface portproxy add v4tov4" command, we should specify those parameters, listenport=443,connectaddress=the IP address of MySQL computer, connectport=3306,listenaddress=local
IP address,protocol=TCP.
Then if the portproxy server monitored messages that were sent to port 443 and local IP address, it would forward the messages to port
3306 and to IP address of MySQL computer after establishing a separate TCP connection. The portproxy server was listening to port 443, if it discovers that some messages arrive at port 443, it would forward the messages to the port 3306 of MySQL server.
But this process couldn’t configure the portproxy server to restrict to 10.10.10.38. Our goals is, when 10.10.10.38 access Windows Server
2008 R2 IP address:443, the firewall allows the connection, then messages were forwarded to MySQL server IP address:3306. But if other clients want to access Windows Server 2008 R2 IP address:443,the firewall will block the connection. So we should configure
a firewall rule in the portproxy server. As we mentioned above, when we open port 443, we could only add 10.10.10.38 in the remote IP addresses.
Overall, portproxy works behind the firewall, they work together to achieve the above goal. And the result is:Client
request port 443 -----> Firewall of portproxy server allows 10.10.10.38
to pass -----> Portproxy server forward messages from port 443 to 3306.
Finally, the problem is that the restriction by the firewall does not work. To ensure the firewall works fine, we could disable all rules
except the rules we configured. Then try it again.

Port Forwarding for RDP 3389 is not working
Hi,
I am having trouble getting rdp (port 3389) to forward to my server (10.20.30.20). I have made sure it is not an issue with the servers firewall, its just the cisco. I highlighted in red to what i thought I need in my config to get this to work. I have removed the last 2 octets of the public IP info for security .Here is the configuration below:

I didnt see anything marked with red in the above? (Atleast when I was reading)
I have not really had to deal with Routers at all since we all access control and NAT with firewalls.
But to me it seems you have allowed the traffic to the actual IP address of the internal server rather than the public IP NAT IP address which in this case seems to be configured to use your FastEthernet4 interfaces public IP address.
There also seems to be a Static NAT configured for the same internal host so I am wondering why the Static PAT (Port Forward) is used?

Please Help - Only Some Port Forwards Working
Hi all,
I have the most annoying issue with a Cisco 887VA-K9 port forwarding. Some port work while other don’t and I just can’t see why, however I suspect it is a zone based firewall (ZBF) issue.
Port forwards on the follow ports all work fine:
External port 8021 to 192.168.4.253 on port 80 works
External port 8022 to 192.168.4.253 on port 8022 works
All the rest don’t. I also have SIP phones sitting outside the LAN which are unable to register through the internet with the PBX unit which is in the DMZ network 192.168.4..0
Any help would be great appreciated as this sending me mad. Fully running config below.

How can I setup port forwarding for RDP (3389) using MHS291LVW?

I went into my MHS291LVW and I enabled port forwarding. I didn't see an option for Remote Desktop (RDP) so I added a custom application called RDP and I set "Global Port" and "Private Port" to port number 3389 and I set it as TCP/UDP and then entered the local IP (192.168.1.135) of the PC I want to connect to. I made my local PC use a static IP so this 192.168.1.135 will never change.
Then when I go under "About Jetpack" I see that there is a WAN IP address listed; so I wrote this down and then I tried to connect remotely to this PC from outside the Verizon Jetpack network but it didn't work.
Then the strange thing is when I go to Google and type "what's my IP", Google shows me a different external WAN IP address that Verizon Jetpack showed me in the admin web interface. Anyway, I tried this WAN IP address that Google gave me but it still didn't connect to my local PC.
Can someone please help me in figuring out why this is not working?
I've setup port forwarding on plenty of other routers (Linksys, Netgear, etc.), but I never tried it on a Verizon Jetpack MHS291LVW but it should work the same so I'm not sure why this is not working for me.

Yes. This is how a VPN server works around the private IP address restrictions of the VZW network. It will work and you will be able to access anything that is centrally connected to a VPN server.

Not on the remote PC silly guy. Hosting a VPN from within the VZW network wont do you any good as its IP will be masked by the NAT firewall. You must setup a VPN server off of the VZW network for it to work. That way when you remote into the VPN server it is already outside of the VZW NAT that is restricting you in the first place. There are many VPN vendors that you can test out and pay access for if you don't have any interest in setting up one on your own. Some are free where others charge more money for more bandwidth and customization features.

The idea is that everything rests on the VPN server when remote connections are made. The Jetpack PC, VPN Server and your current local PC all connect to the VPN server so everything is then local communication. The VPN will make it appear as though everything is virtually connected to the same appliance even though they are physically separated by whatever distance you want. -
2 WTR54GX2, trying to do port forwarding
Hey all, So heres the thing, I have two WRT54GX2's in my network. One is the gateway router (192.168.1.1) and the other is quite a distance away and is the secondary (192.168.100.1). I want to set up a SlingBox on port 80 so basically a webserver. But due to restrictions of cabling and what not I have to attach it to 100.1 the secondary router. My question is how do I make this work with port forwarding? Because I can set the slingbox up with 192.168.110.12 and then port forward it on the secondary router and make it work, how do i do it on the gateway router, as I understand it, in order to port forward the device has to be on the same subnet as the router, but two routers on the same subnet is a PAIN. And the both routers have hardwired devices and wireless devices. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers! _KN

I have one more question tho (i know this whole thing must be getting annoyin, sorry :/), when i do the static IP i tried setting the "Internet IP" as 192.168.1.34 but it gave me an error along the lines of "Internet IP cannot be on the same subnet as the gateway", so what IP do i give the second router? As I understand it, in order for the 1st (gateway) router to portforward correctly, the port its forwarding has to be on the same subnet. Any advice?

I've searched over this forum and several others and I've seen several questions like mine but still no definitive answers.
I have a brand new Time Capsule (mid-2011) with Firmware 7.5.2 setup behind a cable modem. I have a static IP address assigned by my ISP and I have a Mac Mini Server edition recently upgraded to Lion Server hooked via ethernet to the Time Capsule. The TC is set up to DHCP reserve 10.0.1.2 using the Mini server's MAC address. I have been assured by the tech support people at GCI Cable (my ISP) that they do not block or restrict ports in any way. However, despite having all of the service ports set up to forward to the Mini server I can never access the server from outside (or inside) the network. I get the following results from a port scan:

Apparently, some ports are working (mail) but all of the others fail to show up. I've tried deleting all of the forwards and entering them manually, turning them off-rebooting-on again, using the server tool in Lion to configure the proper ports but I've failed on all accounts. I had the same problem with Gen 2 Airport Extreme which I just replaced with the TC in hopes of solving the problem. Does anyone have any fixes to suggest? Am I missing something basic? Problem with Port Forwarding in WRT320N

I have a web-server and Internet-radio translator to local network of my provider. And I found a problem with Port Forwarding. I'm trying to setup 80 & 8000 ports to forward. And it's working but only for Internet, without provider's local network. My web-server isn't accessible in local network and radio-translator too.
So is it possible to forward ports absolutely - for any type of connections?
P.S. DMZ is working like Port Forwarding.If you ask questions you have to mention that you have an PPTP connection to the internet and another network directly on the internet port. Otherwise noone will really understand your question as it is a very unusual setup.
Your setup is not one really supported by the router. You are lucky that it works but don't expect too much. Port forwarding only the internet connection. If you use PPTP the network on the internet port is basically hidden. Using that local network on the internet port is not supported.
The DMZ host is the IP address to which all ports are forwarded to which are not forwarded otherwise. The same restriction applies here.
I would recommend to ask your ISP which router they recommend for their internet connection. I think most/all Linksys routers and many other brand's consumer routers won't really support a setup like yours... -
I'm trying to set up Azureus or transmission but I cannot open the ports successfully.
The setup is: ADSL router -> gigabit wired switch -> macbook pro
Upnp is enabled on the router. I spent a long time on IRC trying to solve the problem with some azureus support guys, but we couldn't figure it out. I have set up a manual port forward in the router to my mb. I set the correct port in azureus (/transmission), set an exception in the firewall, but a port test still doesn't work. If I disabled the firewall on the router or my mac, it doesn't work. It doesn't work as an administrator or restricted user. It isn't any settings in Azureus or transmission as I haven't changed the defaults. If I enable upnp in azureus, it works but is slower than it should be, and it should work without it. I'm pretty sure it isn't anything to do with the router as a windows PC set up in exactly the same way with a different IP and port works. I believe this is something on the mac that is blocking the connections, but as I've only had this mac 2 days and I've not installed much, I don't see what it can be.
EDIT: I could be mistaken, but web downloads seem very slow too. I should get around 400kb/s, I actually get about 20-50 on most downloads it seems.
I've pretty exhaustively tested this now and its getting quite frustrating. I can post Azureus's upnp logs if anyone wants to see them.

E2000 Port Forwarding Stops Working
I am using port forwarding for running a webserver. All is working fine. After a random number of hours or days, the port forwarding stops working. I can get in and look at the settings and they are correct. I can then change something on the port forwarding screen and resave it and it starts working again. Do I have a bad unit ?
Webserver might not be set to static IP. Try setting the webserver to static IP first, then make sure that static IP is enabled in the Port Forwarding screen of the router's web-based setup page. Also, protocol should be set to BOTH (TCP-UDP). You can also try having less firewall/AV restrictions on the web server (or none at all) and set MTU to 1400.

I have an RV016 router with 2 Fibre WAN connections on it. I have two internal servers with resources I need available externally.
I would like WAN1 to forward port 443 to server 1 and WAN2 to forward port 443 to server 2.
It does not appear this is possible as you do not have the option to select which WAN port you want the port forwarding for and can only forward ALL traffic on 443 to one internal server.
Does anyone know if this is possible or not?

You can use Port access translation which you can translate the port for example if you have two server listen in the same port such 443 , with port access translation you can choose an external port and internal port.
configuration :
Please follow this steps:
1. Please remove the rule of the port forwarding
2. Go to Setup under UPnP , service management and you will see external port and internal port so please configure external port to xxx and internal to 443 and click add, please do not enable UPnP
3. on the same page please choose the service you created and put the internal IP of the server A
4. for the second rule is the same just change teh external port to yyy and in internal 443 and put the second server B as internal IP
if you want to access to server A : publicIP:external port xxx
if you want to access to server B : publicIP:external port yyy
Now we want to restrict Client to access to server A from WAN 2 and allow only from WAN1
Under Firewall -- Access Rules
- Allow service (you can create custom service for external port xxx) from WAN1 to Server A
- seconds Access rules Deny Service (custom service xxx) from WAN 2 to Server A
- The same for server B
N.B : for Protocol Binding is working from LAN to WAN it means if you want to force Server A to communicate outside through WAN 1 or WAN 2

BT HomeHub 4 - Port Forwarding.
I need to open up ports 80, 8068 on my Home Hub 4, I have followed the port forwarding instructions but it will still not open them.
I have opened up ports 9000, 85, & 18004 in the same way and this has worked?
Any advice?
Cheers.Traffic will only be allowed back in on port 80 from a source if your device has already sent traffic to that source, because port 80 is used pretty much everywhere for http traffic and leaving it fully open would be just asking for trouble - it's pretty much a given that one of a limited number of browsers is sat at the end of it. I'm assuming that 8068 is similarly restricted.

New network/port forwarding questions
I just replaced my Airport Extreme with a 1TB TC and set up a primary network (AirNett) and a Guest network (Guest). I added Port Mapping entries for my computers (running Tiger), SlingBoxes and ReplayTVs (which are all ethernet-connected) and I have 1 laptop running Leopard and 1 running Tiger. We also have 2 iPhones.
The wired devices all seem to connect just fine. Occasionally, there is a delay in the connection (30 sec-1 min), but once it connects, they seem to stay connected.
The laptops take too long to connect to the AirNett network. If they do connect, it seems that the connection comes and goes. The iPhones have yet to connect to AirNett.
The Guest network serves all the wireless devices just fine, BUT, it does not allow connections to the Port Forwarding devices.
So, 2 issues... any ideas about :
1) why my primary network (AirNett) is not working properly for my wireless devices and
2) why my Guest network does not allow the Port Forwarding connections.

ScottThat was my point - all my lan ports that use port 80 can point at port 80, and long as the WAN ports point at something else. The trouble is, I am restricted to only using 80,81 and 443 on the LAN side, which limits me to 3 (not counting 8080 for my routers web gui)
So that means with my two web cams and web gui on my NAS drive, I am unable to log into any other web interfaces on my LAN, unless I log into my router first, disable one port forward and enable another (using the same WAN port of 80 or 81) - which is doable but a PITA..
This is what is looks like on the router:
For example, if I change the port from field for the "tranmission" entry to anything but 80 or 81, it will not work, so if I want to get into my torrent gui on my NAS drive I have to disable "cam1" and enable "transmission"
I checked with my ISP and they are not blocking any ports, so I'm not sure how to get around this, unless I can serve up a page that shows feeds from more than one camera and serve it from one source, ie my router or NAS drive. -
BT Infinity - Port Forwarding and Vodafone Sure Si...
I have been lucky enough to upgrade from BT Total Broadband (Home Hub 1 and then 2) to BT Infinity (Home Hub 2 with Openreach box). I can remember having major problems with port forwarding with my previous installation, even though the step by step instructions given by BT regarding application sharing was accurate. I resorted to using TELNET and then certain key commands that ensured it did work. A forum simular to this one saved the day. Now I have the new BT Infinity box of tricks and I appear to have the same problem and now I cannot use TELNET to tear down these restrictions. I have switched off the Firewall within the menu system but realise that this is still operational in some kind of way. All incoming data is still being blocked. I need to make sure the following ports are open to the World so that my Vodafone Sure Signal works: TCP: 8 TCP: 50 TCP: 123 UDP: 500 UDP: 4500 I have also enable the VPN clamping as suggested. Can anyone help me? Vodafone can only advise me on these port numbers the rest is ISP driven. Do I need to speak to an engineer? Do I need to TELNET the Home Hub some how? Thank you in advance.

Go to Solution.There is a nationwide problem with Sure Signal connecting through BTinternet which has been ongoing since the 27th. It doesn't seem to be a problem through other internet providers nor does it seem to be specific to any particular versions of Sure Signal or BT Home Hub.
There's no point trying to talk to BT customer services about it - the idiot I was speaking to yesterday insisted that I needed to change the Wi-Fi channel on my Home Hub in order to get my (wired) Sure Signal working again.
Vodafone's customer services are not quite as sh*t as BT's but not much more help. They do, at least, acknowledge that there is a problem and that it is being worked on by engineers (not sure if it is Voda or BT engineers?) but can only say that the "hope it is fixed in the next 24 hours."
If you are thinking of speaking to BT's "customer support specialists" about this, I suggest you poke yourself in the eye instead; it's as likely to fix the problem, will take less time and probably be less painful. -

Cisco 5520 ASA Port Forward to Endian Firewall VPN Question
Hello,
We have had a VPN operational on our Endian Firewall which uses OpenVPN server on port number 1194. We recently purchased a Cisco 5520 ASA to put in front of our Endian Firewall and I am still hoping to use our current Endian Firewall VPN server. So I am thinking the easiest way to make this happen is to port forward all vpn traffic through the ASA to our Endian Firewall to access the VPN. Anyhow, I am just hoping someone with higher knowledge can let me know if this is the best course of action or if there is another easier or more efficient way of doing this?
