Retail : Merchandise Distribution and decentralized WMS

Hello Dear Experts !
My customer uses SAP Retail and a decentralized WMS.
We're setting up a FT flow, but the WMS requires to know that a GR is subject to distribution using the link Vendor PO-Store deliveries.
So, the standard business process is not applicable :
- Create the store's STO/SO
- Create a global vendor PO
- Create the GR.
- Adjust the quantities
- Create the deliveries
This because at the interfacing of the vendor PO, we can't adjust the quantities (as the GR is not done...)
I'm trying to convince the customer this is NOT the best practice, but...
Does anyone have any suggestion how I could set up such a flow using standard functionality ?
Thanks for your help.
Didier.

    Hello Venkatesh,
Let me try to explain in simple words.
In decentralized scenario you will be using two different system
    1. Central system
    2. Decentral system (WMS system and it can be any application i.e. SAP or other WMS application) in which you will carry out WH transactions.
Now when you have SAP system as Central system at that time you will make settings in "Central Processing"
When you are using your SAP system as Decentral system (which is linked to other Central system) at that time you will make settings in "Local Operations"
    Hope this helps.

    Question:
What makes up the added value in OR MerchandiseAnalytics over ORDW?
Both offer extraction layer, staging layer, datamart layer, aggregate layer, OBIEE + prebuilt reports.
I want to know how the fact extraction layer on ORMS etc. is done using ODI. Unfortunately I see no CDC/Streams approach, that we have chosen to use for our extensions to the ORDW datamodel. Is the extraction logic more or less a rebuild of the good old Pro*C DWI programs?
    Some points:
    - More products have been connected to ORMA, additional to RMS: ReIM, ReSA, ORMFP, ORPM.
    - ORMA has had an technology update for the ETL, from OR-only's custom RETL to the more general Oracle ODI (formerly Sunopsis).
    - Is it the promised/future integration of one set of conformed dimension reused and shared over all other to-be OR analytics products? (Like Marketing, Planning, Supply Chain, Stores).
    - ORMA offers 'Dashboards' - may be straightforward to make in RDW-OBIEE?
    - ORMA offers multiple timeviews, where base RDW only offers AsWas (SCD2) - bsiness users may appreciate the AsIs view, and PIT.

According to the RMS13.2 release notes (http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12448_01/rms/pdf/rms_rfm_br/132/rms-132-rn.pdf), RETL and all RETL based interfaces to ORDW are desupported from 13.2!
“Discontinued Support for Oracle Retail Data Warehouse (RDW) Interfaces
A new analytical application is in development. Because of this strategic decision, support for interface between Oracle Retail applications and Oracle Retail Data Warehouse has been discontinued for Oracle Retail 13.2 releases. Oracle Retail Extract, Transform, and Load (RETL) extract scripts for RDW are not supported for use with Oracle Retail 13.2 applications and databases.”
That makes things a lot clearer!

  • ECC WMS vs  Decentralized-WMS vs  SCM - Extended-WMS.  Confusing SAP Strat

Have a Question ... pertaining to SCM-EWM = Extended Warehouse Management Functionality in SCM.
I am raising this under SCM out of not sure which Forum this belongs to.
I knew  WMS  Functionality that is part of erstwhile  R3 4.6, 4.7 and now  ECC 6  Releases.
Back in 2003-2004 also came  "Decentralized WMS" which was the same thing, but WMS implemented
on a Separate Server integrated to R3 via IDOCs/BDOCs.   It had additional functionality of  TRM (Task & Resource Mngt)
which I know as my team has implemented in my earlier job as SCM Manager.   At that time there was no WMS inside of  SCM  (primarily APO).
I am now quite confused with the  "Extended WM" functionality that has come as part of  SCM  along with APO.
    -  What is the reason for coining EWM ?  Architecture seems similar to D-WMS.   Is this meant to be a 'Replacement' for D-WMS  ?
    -  I am reading this EWM having functionality similar to  D-WMS  (eg : TRM, Cross Docking, RFID) ... so it
appears to be the same ... except now I am reading it has functionality called  'Slotting', 'Rearrangement',
'Transportation Cross Docking",  "EH&S Integration" ... all honestly very confusing to me.
    -  Is it that SAP will now do all the Latest Developments around WM only in the  "EWM" module & slowly phase out WMS in ECC ?
Thought someone might know.  This confuses me a lot & I as Head SCM am unable to give the Right Opinion to our Customers on where to head for Warehouse Management.
    Regards,
    Ambrish Mathur

Thanks for responding. But please bear with me for the confusion that still exists.
If I am looking to recommend to a Large Customer who is in Manufacturing or Consumer Products or Automotive/Service Parts or Pharmaceutical Domain who typically Manufacture Finished Goods Inhouse and then Distribute it from Mfg. Plants to Regional Warehouses to Local Warehouses in a Country or across countries to sell to some Distributor or Retail Store for selling it to the Consumers. In such an Environment most of the Warehouses need to be WMS Managed - particularly big ones where RF Automation is also needed. Some even track Handling Units and need to Track Plant Batches so usually Implement HUM / SUM and Batch Management along with WMS to allow Pallet Tracking.
If I were to recommend to such customers which WMS to choose for their SAP Landscape, it is a Confusion of Giant Proportions esp. when deciding between Decentralized WMS Server (i.e : WMS not in ECC but in a separate R/3 which was primarily given by SAP to avoid Performance Issues in the Core Operations in ECC - Batch Management, HUM & WMS can be very Performance Intensive) or use the SCM-EWM Functionality. I want to give a Recommendation that is Futuristic. Why does SAP need to keep both - D-WMS as well as SCM-EWM ?
Bear in mind that EWM is different in Terminologies from D-WMS or ECC-WMS in the sense that the "Transfer Orders" in ECC or D-WMS and they are called as "Warehouse Orders" in SCM-EWM so have different SAP Trainings . In both 'Deliveries' for Sales/POs/STOs get "Distributed" from the Executional ECC System to the EWM/D-WM system to manage Warehouse Picking, Putaway & eventually GI / GR. D-WMS exchanges information with Central ECC Orders via Middleware which is IDOC/BDOC based while I am not sure if EWM uses CIF of SCM or has a different Interface with ECC.
D-WMS & SCM-EWM both run in a Decentralized Fashion to take care of Performance Issues with implementing WMS in the Integrated ECC Environment which I do not recommend for Companies wanting to implement a Lot of WMS.
So the Confusion very much exists between what to recommend between D-WMS & SCM-EWM to a Customer like above with a Futuristic Outlook in mind. It does not make sense for SAP to keep both.
What do you recommend for above-like Customers ?
Where do SCM-EWM Trainings happen (seem to be still not common) ... can you refer me ? I cannot see them in the India/Asia SAP Training syllabus.
I want expert help to make a recommendation.

  • Merchandise Distribution (WF10) Modifications Anyone?

    Hi everyone,
As the subject suggests, i'm trying to figure out if anyone has been involved in or has modifiied WF10?
Below i've highlighted 3 areas we want to improve, but please let me know of any changes you've made.
We've been using Merchandise Distribution now for over 12 months and find the standard functionality just isn't delivering expected results as it's fairly limited / under developed compared with most Retail functionality.
    1)  Not being able to select input STO document types into the collective process, thus generating a distinct output collective document type.  (Input type driving output type)
      -  At our organisation we've a number of document types to segregate demand types (Allocation, Replen, Range review etc), the standard solution just groups them together into a single collective, therefore loose this segregation at out DC where they provide value added services (special labelling / packing etc).
      -  Ideally we would want to do multiple runs of WF10 for each DC to generate a Collective By Doc Type.  Has anyone done this?
    2)  The Delivery Due Date on the collective is not related to the STO Delivery Due Date, it's separately calculated at the DC level.
      -  If we happen to create an STO with an allocation with a due date of a months time (pre ordering for a range review maybe), then the collective is generated with the standard lead time, which then requires manually changing, if we don't it gets closed far too early in relation to the STO's.
      -  Also we exclude the weekends from out store level due date calculation when ordering internal from the DC, collectives don't have any awareness of this or config available, so the two documents are always out of sync.
      -  Ideally we would want this to be based upon the STO(s) Net of the lead time between the DC and Store, to allow for the inventory to be processed prior to the store requiring it.
    3)  There is no real way to group STO's by delivery due dates, to create a Collective that has "clean" STO due dates contained within.  You can select the procurement period and schedule line interval etc, but this doesn't group STO's into collective.  We could run WF10 many many times going into the future for individual days, but this doesn't sounds viable really and even still wouldn't produce the right result.
      - We basically find we group all sorts of stuff together, all of which actually need delivering on different days, which in our fairly complex and flexible supply chain just doesn't work well.
      -  Ideally it would be a single collective run(by doc type), which grouped STO's and split collectives by the STO due dates
    Any thoughts or suggestions?
    Many thanks,
    Dave

    Hi Prabhu,
Thats been most helpful indeed, thank you!
We met with SAP today and discussed, they recommended that for the selection by document type would need to be a modification and recommended that they should do this as a customer development, rather than develop in-house.  In truth i think this is the best approach due to ongoing support.
I would be really interested to find out a little more, as there are so few organisations using WF10 and it's a fairly underdeveloped area of SAP retail.
Two things i'd be particularly interested in is:
    1)  Do you have anymore information on the other changes you said were similar to what i mentioned (i'm assuming splitting by due date and due date calculation changes?)?
    2)  If possible would you be able to share with me on email which organisation it is that had these change made, as our organisation would be keen to speak with them on this. I know this isn't always possible for a number of reasons. If this is ok let me know and i'll send you my email address.
    Kind regards,
    Dave

    Dear Friends
I have a Decentralized WMS being implemented along with central SAP Retail system, Can anyone help me with below
i understand that Inbound delivery is replicated in DWMS
TO is created and confirmed. Now Do I need to post MIGO / GRN in DWMS and distribute the data to Central system or do i post the material document in Central system upon TO?
In case i do MIGO - 107 for inbound delivery, i am supposed to do 109, How do i capture the samein the DWMS?

  • Delivery not created in Merchandise distribution - WF30

    Hi Experts,
I am came accross an issue wherein delivery not created for merchandise distribution.
It is automatically created at the time of goods receipt.
We are using flow through process.
On same day, three PO created via allocation table. Each PO had its STOs linked to it and same article in it.
For two POs, merchandise distribution happened automatically on goods receipt.
For third PO, it failed for same article.
I can see in WF30, there is FT qty populated in adjust button.
That means qty is adjusted per STO.
    But then delivery not created.
I am wondering why is is not created for one PO but processed successfully for another two POs.
    Article master is not chenged.
Can anybody please advice, what could be the possible reason for it.

    Sagar,
For the article in the third PO, please check what storage location is being picked up. Check the cumulative ATP quantity for this article/storage location (use Co09 with checking rule B). There maybe a shortage of stock.
    Thanks,
    Suhas

  • Goods Receipt in Decentralized WMS

    Dear Friends
Our client processes the GRN by creating a Inbound delivery for PO, Then MIGO with movement type 107 for the inbound delivery and then MIGO with 109.
Now do i process the Stock putaway in Decentralized WMS since i understand that inbound delivery is replicated in the Decentral WMS and the subsequent confirmation is done in central system upon the confirmation of TO.
The requirement is that the process of putaway in the decentral WMS must be started after MIGO -109.
Please advise me on this. Your help shall be greatly appreciated
    Thanks

    Hi Anand,
What is the main idea for the 107 and 109? Why don't you create the PO with stock type "S" and then take the stock to your WH in this stock mode? When the goods are cleared/released you do a migo 343 to transfer the stoc kfrom block to unrestricted?
I checked out the process with 107 (where the PO has an sloc which is linked to the DWM sloc) and this is not possible.
Is this in special cases or for all inbound materials?

  • Merchandise Distribution Collective PO with SLS - Minimum Order Value

    Hi,
My organisation is using Merchandise Distribution with SLS to generate collective PO's at our consolidation platforms before generating either STO's or PO to the supply source.
We're utilising Cross Dock and Flow Through to support our processes but in the case of Cross Dock, we're essentially asking the supply source to pick/pack the stock for the final recipient, therefore it can be quite an expensive process for the supply source (but clearly not for us).
Before we implemented this the supply source used to simply receive orders directly from the store and within this process we applied Minimum Order Values, as per my previous statement it can be expensive and picking a couple of small items for one store and having to put them on a pallet is not economical for them in either warehousing or transportation.
I'm looking for some broad suggestions on how this could be achieved whilst utilising collective orders.
Our store STO's generated by MRP (and soon enough F&R) are large STO's that are not truly supply source specific, they are consolidation platform specific and the collective orders generated off the back of them are supply source specific.
The key issue i see is that we're asking for a select group of lines within the store STO to meet an MOV of the vendor OR that we somehow ensure that the store STO's are supply source specific and then enforce some MOV logic.
Obviously this isn't standard but it's causing our organisation big supply issues, so any thoughts or advice would be fantastic.
    Many thanks

    Hi ,
You can not do directly in ME59N. Check for user exit for this t code.

    Hi Elmar,
I have checked the packages and the XFree86-libs-4.3.99 is not installed. I guess I will have to install it.
Now your question about oracle user. I am not sure if you have performed any SAP MDM installation with ORACLE RDBMS but the installation guide is totally different than the normal SAP inst guides. Indeed someone needs to install separately SAP MDM and ORACLE and in my installation I do not install NetWeaver since it is not mandatory for the testing phase of the project. You can have a look at the guide (it is very poor -no reference to ORACLE details):
    https://websmp105.sap-ag.de/~sapidb/011000358700000271882007E
So the official ORACLE inst gudie says to install the ORACLE software with the oracle user.

  • Warehouse number from "Decentralized WMS" to "Centralized"

    Hi all
We have implemented a warehouse number with Decentralized WMS.
ERP and WM are SAP systems.
Now, weu2019d like to integrate WM into the same ERP SAP system (convert a warehouse number from "Decentralized WMS" to "Centralized").
    So, what shall we do?
Can we maintain the same warehouse number and do the customizing on it (deactivate Decentralized WMS and so on)? Or we must define a new one?
In both cases, (maintain the same warehouse number or define a new one) how can we transfer WM stock from decentralized to centralized?
    Any suggest?
    Thanks a lot
    Michele

    Hi Funky Tech.
Thank you for your answer, but my question is another.
We have already implemented a warehouse number as decentralized WMS.
Now we want to integrate it into ERP (centralized WMS).
    So the questions are:
Can we maintain the same warehouse number and do the customizing on it (deactivate Decentralized WMS and so on)? Or we must define a new one?
In both cases, (maintain the same warehouse number or define a new one) how can we transfer WM stock from decentralized to centralized?
    Thanks

  • Merchandise Distribution: Taking existing stock before buying externally

    In merchandise distribution,
    - for pull, when creating a collective purchase order (WF10),
    - for push, when generating follow-on document (WA08),
what are the configurations to make the system take the existing warehouse stock into account before trying to procure from an external vendor?
For example (pull), a store creates an STO for 15 EA of article A, and there are 10 EA of it at DC, so the system create a PO for only 5 EA.
For example (push), the quantity of article A specified in allocation table is 15 EA, and there are 10 EA of it at DC, so the system generates a PO for only 5 EA and an STO for 15 EA.
I'm aware that there is a check box "Dels with Stock Reduction" in the site profile, but even if I check it, the system still does not take the existing stock into account before procure externally.
    Any suggestion would be appreciated.
    VT

Hello VT, the beauty of these merchandise distribution functions includes:
    - To move merchandise more quickly throgh the distribution center.
    - To reduce costs for merchandise processing and storage.
None of these functions considers actual DC stock, because they are meant to be used without this stock.
What i´ve seen in companies over the years is that DC stock is sent to the stores or returned to vendor before the implementation of these functions, because one of the mayor goals is to have zero stock of these articles at DC.
Anyway, you can try with creating your own function module for the distribution profile. SAP provides function group WRF4, you can create your own and assign it.

  • Oracle Retail Products Installation and Implementation

Can individual modules like Oracle Retail Allocation be used as standalone Products, without installing Oracle RMS?
The following point is mentioned in the Oracle® Retail Merchandising Implementation Guide Release 13.2.4 E28940-01
"RMS owns virtually all of the information that Oracle Retail Allocation needs to operate and the information that Oracle Retail Allocation provides is of primary interest/use for RMS. As a result Oracle Retail Allocation has limited interaction with other Oracle Retail Merchandising Operations Management applications. For Oracle Retail Merchandising
Operations Management applications that Oracle Retail Allocation does interact with it is managed through direct reads from Oracle Retail Merchandising Operations Management application tables, direct calls to Oracle Retail Merchandising Operations Management packages, and Oracle Retail Allocation packages based on Oracle Retail Merchandising Operations Management application tables."
So, for implementing Oracle Retail Allocation, is Oracle RMS mandatory?

    My understanding is yes.
The text you provided indicates that Allocations does not directly communicate with other modules, such as SIM, but instead does so via RMS. When you install RMS without Alloc, you actually get a lot of the database tables & DB package code for Alloc. This gives some indication as to the level of dependency that Alloc has on having RMS installed.

SAP integrates RF Devices, using SAP Console. Once the integration is setup, you can configure many of the warehouse activities to be executed on RF Devices. SAP provides a detailed configuration tasks to link the same GUI transactions to be executed thru RF Devices.
If you need more information on configuring the RF transactions, Please let me know the WM Business process so that configuration tasks can be guided.
