Retaking a Quiz After Reviewing? (Cp 8)

Hello all,
It is my understanding that before Cp 8 the student was unable to review the quiz and then retake it as well. I'm assuming that is still the case in Cp 8 (that is what I've experienced). However, I just wanted to make sure there was no way around it that I haven't found yet. Thank you!

  • Retake button disappears after Reviewing Quiz

Long time lurker, first time poster...
I have a quiz template that I'm trying to finalize for my department using Cp 5.5 and the retake quiz button disappears if the user reviews the quiz.  Is this a settings issue or is it that a user cannot retake a quiz in Cp after reviewing the correct/incorrect answers?
I have the quiz preferences set as follows:
    Reporting:
    Enable reporting is checked
    Standard (SCORM 2004)
    Report Status:
    Pass/Fail
    Report to LMS as:
    Score
    Choose Report Data:
    Quiz Results Only
    Reporting Level:
Interactions and Score (although this probably should be changed looking at the settings above)
    Settings:
    Quiz
    Name: Quiz Name
    Required: Pass Required
    Objective ID: (default)
    Interaction ID Prefix: (nothing entered)
    Settings:
    Shuffle answers (unchecked)
    Show Progress (checked)
    Allow Backward Movement (checked)
Show Score at the End of the Quiz (checked)
Allow User to Review the Quiz (checked)
    Pass or Fail:
    Pass/Fail Options:
100% or more of total points to pass
    If Passing Grade:
    Continue
    If Failing Grade:
    Infinite Attempts (checked)
    Show Retake Button (checked)

    hi capSean
i have the same requirement (if learner fails and wants to review, learner should be able to review, then retake quiz) and here's my work-around: instruct learner that if he/she wants to review first, THEN retake, he/she must rewind the course to the beginning.  this clears out the answers.  on my (SumTotal) LMS settings, i have to allow infinite attempts.
    best of luck,

  • Reset and retake quiz after reviewing - Captivate 8

    Hi there,
I have seen that people have discussed this before but I didn't find a simple solution and was hoping Captivate 8 may have actually come up with something lovely (not holding my breath though!)
Is there any possible to let the user review the quiz AND THEN retake it? The 'Retake' button disappears after they review the quiz, so I was wondering there was a way I could manually reset the quiz and use my own Retake button. I have tried using the cpQuizInfoAttempts and taking the user back to the first question slide but it does not reset and looks just like the review.
    Thanks in advance!

    Booo
Thanks for responding as always Lilybiri!

  • Retake button gone after Reviewing Quiz

Scenario: You give a user the option to both Review Quiz and Retake Quiz. User chooses Review. When they get to the end of the Review the Retake button is gone. Is there a way to show the Retake button in this situation? Ideally a person could first Review and then Retake.

Unfortunately no.  If you flunk the quiz on an attempt (by not achieving a passing score) you get the option to Retake Quiz, but the button doesn't appear if you pass.
If you click the Review Quiz option, you do not get the option to Retake Quiz once you get back to the Quiz Results slide.
I think the basic reasoning behind this is that for a quiz to be a true assessment of the learner's knowledge, they should not be able to just review the quiz, find out all the answers, and then just retake the quiz immediately to answer all the questions.  That would be like just giving them the answers for free.
So if you review quiz, you need to relaunch the lesson before you can attempt the quiz again.

  • After Reviewing Quiz 1 time the Retake Quz button disappears

Does anyone have a solution to make the Retake Quiz button appear after one quiz review?

If you Review Quiz you do not get the option to Retake Quiz.  Captivate has taken the view (and I agree with it) that it would be cheating if a person could just Review a Quiz, find out all the right answers, and then Retake the Quiz to pass with those answers.
Once you Review Quiz, you need to relaunch the lesson to attempt the quiz again.

  • How can I allow the user to retake a quiz from the middle of it in Captivate 7?

    Hello Captivaters,
I would like to force the learner to pass a quiz before he can continue on with the training.  If he doesn't pass the quiz, he will need to go back and take it again. The "retake" button allows him to do this, but I will actually like to have 4-5 of these "quiz checkpoints" in the eLearning -- each separated with presentation material --  so that the user proves he understands the material before advancing.
Therefore I would like to create my own "retake" button at the end of every "quiz checkpoint" that takes the learner back to the first question of that checkpoint (not to the first question in the training).  So far, I have been able to create a button that appears after he gets a certain amount correct to allow him to continue, and I want to create a button that appears that takes him back to the first question in the checkpoint if does not get the required amount correct and retake those questions.  The first part is easy, but I also need to add the function or reassign some variable to allow the user to retake the quiz. I hope I am making sense.. Any help would be much appreciated!
    - Ryan

    It's great!  Thanks again.
Here is the issue now.  I guess it's not a huge problem, it's just if I can't find a better way, what I need to do will take a lot of time.
Like I mentioned before, I created this "results" slide that on enter either shows a "congrats" button or a "retry" button, depending on whether or not the user passed the quiz.  I have copied this slide and pasted it behind all of the other sub-quizzes in the training, but when I do that, of course the link between the buttons and the conditional advanced action break.
As you know, when you duplicate a slide, all of the names of the objects on that slide are "refreshed" and are replaced with new generic names because you are in fact creating new objects as well.  This means that I need to rename all of the objects on that slide (even though its a duplicate) and then replace all of the "old names" in the advanced action with these new object names..   Is there a faster way to do that?
    Thanks again!!

    Hi Amanda........
    1. In Adding a new char Zreg, the author set it to a CONSTANT as INDIA. What if in my environment, the added characteristic is also ZCOUNTRY but could take on VALUES such as US, Canada, Mexico, will the be the option:
1:1 Mapping with Characteristics? If not, please help.
In this case coding is required............So u hav to go for Customer exit........
If u do 1:1 Mapping with Characteristics..........it will access value as per that Characteristics.....
    2. Again, in the demonstration of the u201CAdd key figureu201D in the remodeling of the cube, the author used CONSTANT = 100. Can you help me understand a situation in production where you will have to set a key figure to a constant value? E.g. u201CNet Salesu201D should always be $5000? I may be missing the point in that remodeling.
Suppose price of a product...........it will not change everyday...............that keyfigure hav to set as a constant value...........
    3. I also noticed that while remodeling CHARACTERISTICS, there was the option u201CCUSTOMER Exitu201D but in the case of KEY FIGURE the option was u201CUSER Exitu201D
Any reason why one is CUSTOMER and the other as USER?
Look thereis a difference between User exit and Customer exit..........I am not very sure when user exit is required and when customer exit.......
    Check this..............
    http://www.sap-img.com/abap/what-is-user-exits.htm
    4. There was the emphasis to u201C.. backup database before running remodeling requests..u201D Is it referring to Basis backing up the BW system? Or, is there a way to take a copy of the cube to be remodeled and its data? If it is the second option, any hints on how?
if you want to transfer the content of one infocube to another one ...............
    a) generated the export datasource for the source infocube...right-click->'generate export datasource
    b) create transformation.......(without any filter or calculation, with the mapping 1:1 to all the infoobjects) ................in this way u can 'copy' (with one shot data load, as a full request) all the data.........
    5. I have heard of scary cases during remodeling, is there a way to simulate and approve of the changes before actually implementing it? How?
Also, Are these changes that need to be done in development to be transported to production?
Generally u will don't hav changing authorization in PROD.........Look frankly speaking..........I hav never done Remodeling..........but as per the statement .......During remodeling process InfoCube is locked for any changes or data loads so make sure you stall all the data loads for this InfoCube till the time this process finishes..............I think we do remodeling directly in PROD only.........

It seems you are asking in wrong forum. AFAIK, you are asking "how to add HTTP header to response generated by my own script". It depend on WWW server we are speaking of and language of script itself. If you will fail to found solution within documentation of the HTTP server and/or scripting language you are using, then the better place for your question is a forum related to such language and HTTP server.
In meantime, you can try other solituin. The "Refresh: 0;..." header is required for correct function of SoftKey:Next which is displayed by default. But you can redefine the content of SoftKey area using your own key. Such configuration is part of DirectoryObject you sent to phone. See definition of SoftKey 3 in example bottom. It's not original SoftKey:Next that depend on Refresh header. It's my own custom soft-key named "Next" with exact URL defined as part of key definition (replace 'N' with number of next page). It doesn't depend on Refresh header in any way. You should consider such advice as "temporary workaround". You should discover how to send HTTP header 'Refresh'  from your script. Note, it's not possible to redefine one SoftKey only. If you wish to redefine a soft-key, then all soft-keys need's to be defined by you.

  • Cannot clear answers in quiz after returning from jump to slide.

Hi, I apologize if this has been answered previously. I couldn't find a thread containing the information.
I recently upgraded from Captivate 6 to 8 (yes, I know...) and when I created the quiz for this project, I have the learners who answer the questions incorrectly going through remediation using the jump to slide on last attempt. The jump to works fine and returning to the quiz works fine. However, when the learner returns to the quiz, the previous incorrect answers are still displayed and the clear button is non-functional. This doesn't allow them to revise their answer and move forward.
I compared it to a similar project that I created in Captivate 6, and it seems that all the options in the quiz preferences and the question's quiz properties are the same, yet it is working properly in the Captivate 6 project (even when previewed in Captivate 8).
Am I overlooking something simple here?
    Thanks!

Indeed, the On Exit event is not to be trusted at all, you need an
interactive object, that gets a double functionality. In the video it has
Continue or Return to Quiz, but you can also use 'Go to Next Slide' instead
of Continue. Sorry that I didn't point immediately to that video. It is
    short but pretty clear.

  • Captivate 5.5 Quiz results change after review

I've looked through the questions here and can't seem to find an answer/explanation for what I'm experiencing.
I've created a quiz (test) where the attempts per question are 1 failure levels set to "none" (this is acting as a final exam for a course so I want them to answer the question and move on).
When the quiz is completed I get the score and after clicking "review quiz" and going through the answers, the score changes.  It always drops.
So if I complete the quiz the first time and get a score of 96%, click "review quiz" and go through each question, when I get back to the score page the score has changed to 92% or 90% and that's what's being reported back to my LMS (Inquisiq) when the quiz is closed.  It seems to be reporting the correct item answers to the LMS but the overall score is being reported incorrectly.
    Reporting settings are:
    SCORM 2004
    Send tracking data at end
    Pass/Fail
    Report as a percent
    Quiz results only
    Interactions and score
    No backward movement allowed
    No skip button
    Only a submit button
Any thoughts would be very much appreciated.

    Thanks Rod,
I don't have any custom widgets or playbars or swfs, it's all stock.  Just changed the quiz settings.
I tried Liliybiri's suggestion to remove the playbar controls. (Thank Lilybiri!) I also allowed backward movement but required answers to all questions.  This gave me the back and skip buttons I needed for the review.  I deleted all non-question slides so that the review is only navigating to/from question slides and this seems to be working.  I've tried it myself several times and have been unable to make it happen again.  I've got a couple other users testing as well.
Rod, I was also thinking that maybe this particular project had become corrupted and I should try a new one from scratch. I may test that tomorrow anyway to see if it's my quiz settings or a corrupted project.  I'll let you know how I make out.
Thanks to you both for your help with this today!

  • Review Quiz - Audio plays again after reviewing

    Hey,
I integrated an audio into my Quiz Result Slide. Its like "Here are your results. If you wanna see, what mistakes you did click on "Review" "
Problem is, when user is reviewing and the last question in the Quiz was shown it  automatically shows the Result slide and PLAYS THE AUDIO AGAIN!
How can I tell Captivate, 'Do not play this audio again. Stay mute.' or 'Jump to annother slide' ?
I tried to find the script for the Review-Button, but couldn't figure out.
    Thanks for any help!
    Martin

If this is the only audio, you could set the system variable cpCmndMute to 1 in the conditional action if the user variable has been toggled to 1. It will be a conditional advanced action, something like this:

  • Re-Ask Question after review on another slide

Here is what i am trying to do and cant figure out. I want to
ask a question, if the person gets the answer wrong, go to the next
slide where i will have a full review with pictures and answers,
but then i want the user to be able to go back and be asked the
same quesiton again for a second attempt. Please help.

WELCOME to the all volunteer Captivate forums.
I use this technique quite a bit and there are some
limitations, but a future patch could eliminate the limitations,
    we'll see.
    1. Keep the course sections short and that means not more
than two sets of quizzes in any presentation. You can get around
the limit, but it is an unusual process that is not intuitive or
likely to be discovered by a user. I got the work-around from the
developers that could see how to deal with this in the code...
    2. You need to set the Quiz settings to User Must Pass. Allow
the user 50 attempts in settings. Yu can try infinite and see if
    that works for you.
    3. have the flow idea already, but the key is that you MUST
go forward to go back (loop-back). The pattern is this:
    Cover Slide
    Slide 1
    Slide 2
    Pre-Quiz1 Slide
Quiz 1 - If correct Go To Slide 3
    Failure 1
Failure Review Slide 1 - Go to Pre-Quiz1 Slide
    Slide 3
    Slide 4
    Pre-Quiz2 Slide
Quiz 2 - If correct Go To END
    Failure 2
Failure Review Slide 2 - Go to Pre-Quiz2 Slide
    END Slide
    4. Notice the use of the Go-To. Each slide allows you to
select from a variety of choices on success. The default is
CONTINUE. Quiz Slides have two options. On Success and on Failure
and you can set them to GOTO a particular slide. I highly recommend
that you label your slides (double click the thumbnails or edit the
slide properties) and enter logical slide names, which will appear
when you use the GOTO slide options.
    5. In the above example I only have TWO Quiz sets. WHY? There
is a flaw in Captivate that allows only two of these to work. If
you add a third or fourth, etc, then the middle ones will not reset
the quiz on the loop-back and users will see only the prior
selections in gray and they will be protected from further entry.
The work-around that the programmers gave me was not intuitive. You
need to loop back to an early slide at the start of the
presentation and then have that early slide jump to the retake of
the quiz. So you might have something like this:
Cover Slide - Goes to Slide 1 next
    Jump Quiz1 - Go To Pre-Quiz1 Slide
    Jump Quiz2 - Go To Pre-Quiz2 Slide
    Jump Quiz3 - Go To Pre-Quiz3 Slide
    Slide 1
    Slide 2
    Pre-Quiz1 Slide
Quiz 1 - If correct Go To Slide 3
    Failure 1
Failure Review Slide 1 - Go to Jump Quiz 1
    Slide 4
    Slide 4
    Pre-Quiz2 Slide
Quiz 2 - If correct Go To Slide 4
    Failure 2
Failure Review Slide 2 - Go to Jump Quiz 2
    Slide 5
    Slide 6
    Pre-Quiz3 Slide
Quiz 2 - If correct Go To END
    Failure 3
Failure Review Slide 3 - Go to Jump Quiz 3
    END Slide
Almost any combination of the above will work and you can go
directly to the Quiz from the Jump and not the pre-quiz slide. The
point is, that you need to be in the FRONT to get the quiz to reset
the answers when you do the GoTo, but you must FIRST ALWAYS go
forward after a quiz to get it to score.
    Hope that helps
    Joe C.

  • Feedback not appearing on retake of quiz

When a person takes the quiz, fails it, then retakes it, the answer feedback is not showing up on the second attemp at the quiz questions.  Any ideas????

    Hi,
I could not reproduce it on Presenter 7.0.7
    Could you verify one thing:
Goto MAnage Quiz->select the question and press Edit.
    Select Options tab.
Verify that the options 'Show correct message', 'Show error message' are checked.
    If not, please check them.
If this do not resolve the problem, then I need to know all other setting syou made inside the Manage Quiz.
    Thanks,

  • Retake the quiz questions that got wrong answers

    Hi,
I psuedo-asked this before, but I'll ask it outright this
    time.
In using Captivate 3, is there any way to make the user take
the quiz a second time, but skip over the questions that they have
gotten correct, requiring them to redo only the questions they have
gotten wrong? Has anybody found a clever way to get around this?
Right now I can only redirect them to the beginning (with the
continue button) and have them retake the whole quiz.
Please let me know if there's a way around this, Thanks!

I guess you need to take a moment to look at commercial LMS
