Retention policies not working
We are in the progress of migrating from Exchange 2007 to 2010, and I can't seem to get retention policies working in 2010. I want to delete everything in a mailbox at 180 days old. I have set a simple Retention tag via the EMC for "all other
folders in the mailbox" with an Action of "Permanently Delete". I have assigned this tag to a retention policy via the EMC, and then assigned mailboxes to the policy via the EMC. I then run Start-ManagedFolderAssistant -identity
"Last, First" from the command shell.
The process does not seem to delete items over 180 days. What am I doing wrong?
Hi,
Please check whether there is the Event ID 9017 and 9018, make sure the MRM works well.
And please restart the Microsoft Exchange Mailbox Assistants service to check the result.
If possible, please create a new test user and apply retention policy to this user to check the result.
If the issue persists, I recommend you increase the diagnostic logging level for the MRM, and then monitor the events in the application log to check if there is related events.
Best regards,
Belinda

Retention Policy not working for OWA accounts
I have Exchange 2010 running, with 100% of users using OWA, not Outlook as their mail client.
I have one use that wants to have messages in all his folders deleted at the end of each day. Specifically, these folders are under the Inbox, but are subfolders in the Inbox, not the Inbox itself.
I set up a retention policy tag with the Tag Type "All other Folders in the Mailbox", with age limit for retention for 1 day, and the action to delete and allow recovery.
Then I applied the Retention policy just to that one users.
The next morning, all the messages from the day before were still there. Did I miss something in the setup?
Does the "1 day" retention delete messages after 24 hours of the message being there, or at the end of each day can I have it delete all the previous messages?
Does this have something to do with the fact that we are running OWA, not Outlook? I can right click on the folders and view retention policy...it just says "Use Parent Folder Policy"...nowhere can I find the parent folders policy.
Any advice would be appreciated.Hi,
For your retention policy not working issue, we can try the following troubleshooting:
1. Please check whether it has Event ID 9017 and 9018, to make sure the MRM working well.
2. Please check the Managed Folder Assistant service is working well.
3. Please use MFCMAPI Tool to check the "PR_MESSAGE_DELIVERY_TIME" and "PR_CREATION_TIME" properties on the items that should be removed.
If you have any question, please feel free to let me know.
Thanks,
Angela

Exchange 2013 CU3 Retention Policy Not working for Calendar & Tasks
We are currently on Exchange 2013 CU3 with Online Archiving Enabled for the user
Default policy is set to move all the items in mailbox which are older than 30 days to online archive mailbox.
Calendar and Tasks Items are also getting archived alongwith other Outlook items from Inbox,Deleted Items etc
Followed Technet website and created RPT for Calendar and Tasks with retention disabled
Still DPT takes precedence and move all the items under Calendar and Task to Online Archive MailboxHi Sam,
I recommend you refer to the following article, despite this for Exchange 2010, however the same applies to exhcnage 2013:
Prevent archiving of items in a default folder in Exchange 2010
To prevent the <acronym title="Default Policy Tag">DPT</acronym> from being applied to a default folder, you can create a disabled <acronym title="Retention Policy Tag">RPT</acronym> for that folder (or disable
any existing RPT for that folder). The Managed Folder Assistant, a mailbox assistant that processes mailbox items and applies retention policies, does not apply the
retention action of a disabled tag. Since the item/folder still has a tag, it's not considered untagged and the DPT isn't applied to it.
Why are items in the Notes folder still archived?
If you create a disabled <acronym title="Retention Policy Tag">RPT</acronym> for the
Notes folder, you'll see items in that folder are not deleted, but they do continue to be moved to the archive! Why does this happen? How do you prevent it?
It's important to understand that:
A retention policy can have a <acronym title="Default Policy Tag">DPT</acronym> to
archive items (using the Move to Archive retention action) and a DPT to
delete items (using the Delete and Allow Recovery or
Permanently Delete retention actions). Both apply to untagged items.
The move and delete actions are exclusive of each other. Mailbox folders and messages can have both types of tags applied - an archive tag and a delete tag. It's not an either/or proposition.
If you create a disabled RPT for the Notes folder to not delete items, the archive DPT for the mailbox would still apply and move items.
When it comes to archiving, there's only one archive policy that administrators can enforce – the <acronym title="Default Policy Tag">DPT</acronym> with 'Move to archive' action.
You can't create a <acronym title="Retention Policy Tag">RPT</acronym> with the 'Move to archive' action. This rules out using the disabled RPT approach to prevent items from being moved.

Hello
I have read through multiple Q&A on this subject, but don't really see a solution or understand it
Exchange 2010 SP3 RU 5
RPT
Tag Type - Deleted Items
Age Limit 21 days
Action Permanently Delete
RP - Added to 3 users
Users have deleted email going back 3 years. If I check the deleted Items Policy tab, says policy is applied delete trash older that 21 days.
I set this policy 5 days ago, nothing being deleted.
Is it true I have to wait 21 days for the policy to take effect, I have seen a few people state that, which makes no sense.
Or is it simply not working
ThanksHi,
Could you please run the start-managedfolderassistant command against these users to check the result? Is it the same issue?
Did you run Outlook in cached mode? If so, please change to online mode to check if you still see these old emails in the Deleted Items folder.
Theoretically, in Microsoft Exchange Server 2010, the retention age for items in the Deleted Items default folder is calculated based on the date of delivery unless the item was moved or deleted from a folder that doesn't have an inherited or implicit retention
tag. If you need more information, please refer to following article:
How Retention Age is Calculated

Thank you for your time. If you have any questions, please feel free to let me know.

Web-app scoped security policies not working in WL 8
Hi,
I can't get web-app scoped security policies working in WL 8.1
I have a simple web application. It defines a role(ROLE) and security
constraint (on *.jsp).
If I examine the web app in the administration console, I see that it
has created a role (scoped to /*) called "ROLE" just as you would
expect. It has also created a scoped policy (to *.jsp) with constraints
that the user be in the role ROLE. This is as expected, and it works.
However, if I proceed to create my own scoped policy (on *.html) with
constraints (on ALL methods) that the user be in role ROLE, then I get
no security at all. ie. I can go to server:port/foo.html and it will
work - it is not secured.
Any ideas?
On a completely unrelated issue, when I deploy an EAR (exploded) with a
WAR (exploded) and using the admin console expand the application
correpsonding to th EAR, right click on the WAR node, and try and define
a scoped role, then I get an error "There are no appropriate RoleEditor
providers configured". This sounds like a bug. Trying to define a
scoped policy works as expected.
TIA,
JonI can't get web-app scoped security policies working in WL 8.1Well, I can answer this one myself.
WebLogic 8 has a new optimisation (this wasn't present in 7 AFAIK),
available on the Security / Realm / myreal / General tab, which
determines whether or not weblogic considers authorisation of resources
protected by descriptors or not. (ie. it can force only
descriptor-protected authorisation, ignoring admin console policies).
It defaults to ignoring admin console policies, hence my problem.

Office 2013 group policies - not working
I'm using Office 2013 Pro Plus SP1 (volume license) on a Windows 7 Pro machine [both are 32 bit]. While I have Server 2003, it's configured to work with Windows 7 and Office 2013 Group Policy templates. I use RSAT on a Win 7 computer to
create/manage the Group Policies.
Since we're not using Office 365, I'm trying to block some of those features, as well as disabling the Office Start screens.
Thinking that SP1 might be the problem, I downloaded the group policy templates for SP1 and copied them to the server.
If I create a policy (Office_2013_settings), with a few settings, like "Block singing into Office". In Group Policy, I disabled the Computer Configuration, leaving the User Configuration enabled. If I force group policy on the target
computer and look at RSOP, I see the computer configuration settings disabled, but nothing for the user configuration, although it's enabled in the policy.
If I put a junk policy entry on the computer configuration and enable both policies on the backend, force group policy on the computer, and look at RSOP, under computer configuration, I see the Office_2013_settings policy, but the policy still doesn't appear
in the user configuration. If I scroll to the bottom of the file, where I can see other Administrative templates and their settings, my Office_2013_settings aren't visible.I have created a group policy with a few settings, and applied to my own computer. It seems to be very nice to me. Please first check the apply status on the client site based on the GPSVC.log
Thinking the issue might be on the way how you create/manage the Group Policies on Windows Server side. Please check the model of how you deploy your group policy, on a domain or OU level? Loopback Merge or Replace? This might affect whether the user
would receive all settings from GPO applied to User or Computer. This article might be useful to you:
http://blogs.technet.com/b/askds/archive/2013/02/08/circle-back-to-loopback.aspx
This might be an issue on Windows server side, you may need to post your question to below forum to get more suggestions:

Retention tags not working if mailbox has another language than english
Hi folks
I've created a retention tag (type: Inbox ) in exchange 2013 which deletes all mails older than 14 days. works perfectly for mailboxes with english standart folders, but if i apply the policy to an mailbox with german or french language, the emails
are not getting deleted. i think the problem is that the inbox folder is called "Posteingang" in the german mailboxes.
is there a workaround to use my retention tag for other languages as well?
Thanks!Hm, that sounded interesting enough for a test, but since I'm an O365 guy, I run the test against EO. Works OK even after I rename the folders, the only thing I did was to simply run the Start-ManagedFolderAssistant cmdlet to speed up the process.
EO is usually few versions ahead of on-prem, so either this has been fixed (and the fix is coming with CU7 or later), or we are simply missing something in your scenario. Have you verified that the policy is actually recognized as 14 days by the client,
for the non-English mailboxes? Double-check the tag and policy, and run the Start-ManagedFolderAssistant just in case. -
Trend Micro Interscan URL Filtering policies not working
I have just inherited a ASA 5520 with a TrendMicro InterScan for CSC SSM (version 6.6.1125.0) with both Base and Plus licenses. We have several URL filtering policies setup with AD group checking via the Domain Controller Agents. These rules are currently in the order of most strict (only a couple of explicitly identified users and one IP address), then two different policies that block less content than the global list (each assigned to LDAP list based on AD group membership), then our global URL Filtering policy.
The most common problem I have is when I try to open a site for one of the LDAP groups the site does not become accessible until I also add it to the HTTP Exceptions list on the Global Policy thus opening it for all users.
Any suggestions?/* Style Definitions */

WF Policies not working as expected
Hi ,
I have created three WF Polices for New, Update and Delete of records.
I seem to have two problems.
1. When I create a New Record all the three WF policies (New , Update and Delete) are triggering.
2. When I delete a record I am not able to capture the Row_Id of the deleted record.
Below are the Conditions I provided for the respective WF policies.
New Record WF Policy: a) Activate Synchronization Flag = Y
b) LS Clinical Site Row Id IS ADDED
UPdate Record WF Policy: a) Activate Synchronization Flag = Y
b) Site Last Updated IS UPDATED
Delete Record WF Policy: a) Activate Synchronization Flag = Y
b) LS Clinical Site Row Id IS DELETED
Observation :
1. For the New Record I see that only the Condition "a" is geting triggered.
2. For the Delete record when I looked into the Meta link it said that the on;ly way to capture the deleted Row_ID is by Runtime events.IS this true ?
Look forward for some answers.
Thank you,
Sailendra. The following comparisons work at the workflow policy component level. They do not operate at the field level.
- IS ADDED. If a new row is added for this workflow policy component, then trigger this workflow policy to be examined.
[If used in conjunction with standard comparisons, IS ADDED can be triggered when a record is updated.]
- IS DELETED. If a row is deleted from this workflow policy component, then trigger this workflow policy to be examined.
The following comparison operates at the field level. To monitor if a field within the workflow policy component was modified, use the field that is named after the workflow policy component.
- IS UPDATED. If the field's value has changed, either by adding a new record with the specific field or by modifying the field in an existing record, then trigger this policy to be examined. To monitor if any field for a particular table was updated, use the workflow policy component column that represents the LAST_UPD column for that table.

Changes to User Extensible Policies not working
I'm having some difficulty with User Extensible Policies being applied on
Windows XP machines. We've been using these policies/machines for some
time without a problem. However, when I make a change to one of the
policies, the change is not reflected on the XP machines (works fine on
W2k, and W98 machines). The main changes I've been making are with the
Allowed Applications parameter.
Also, this particular client limits logins to 1 per user. I've also
noticed that the XP machines don't pick up the change when I increase the
login limit from 1 to 2 (they still give me the error message upon
attempting to login indicating the user has exceeded the maximum allowable
logins, even though there's only 1 active login for this particular
user). Again, I don't see this behavior from the W2k, or W98 machines.
I've tried completely removing the client and reinstalling and completely
recreating the user profile. When removing the client, I made sure there
were no left over policies on the local machine before reinstalling. Upon
reinstalling the client, policies are pulled down and applied, but they
are the version of the policies before the changes were made. (I"ve tried
client versions 4.9, and 4.9 sp1. I couldn't get 4.9sp2 to install
properly, but I'm still working on that one)
It's as if the XP workstations aren't properly reading changes in NDS.
I'm wondering if some automatic update has been applied that has broken
some Novell functionality somewhere.
Has anyone experience this problem yet?
Zen 3.2, sp3
Thanks,
Kenny FranklinYou were dead on. Group Policies worked perfectly. Thanks a bunch!
On a side note, this particular site has three sets of policies enabled:
1 to allow access to a certain list of apps
2 to allow access to a different list of apps
3 to allow access to all apps.
When I modify the Group Policy for the first user package, it duplicates
the same settings for the second user package (i.e. it's reading from the
same policy file). Do I need to specify different policy paths for each
user package to have separate and distinct policies?
Thanks again,
Kenny

Group policies not working in one lab.
G'day
I've got a situation at my school where group policies are not having any
effect on the PCs - but only in one of the 3 computer labs.
I've run through the steps of most of the troubleshooting documents I could
find but they haven't really helped.
to summarise...
If I delete the group policy folders from the system32 folder, then log in,
new copies are brought down OK.
If I force an update by executing secedit /refreshpolicy user_policy
/enforce the changes (proxy restrictions mostly) take effect
The policy IS correctly associated with the users and shows in the
Workstation manager as having been executed.
I'm at a loss.
I was wondering if anyone could have a look at the debug log
file I generated and give me some idea what's happening.
Thanks.

VBscript for policies not working with 2008server 64bit
The VBscript for polices desktop/server won't run on 2008 server 64bit.
I've ran it on all my 2003 servers just fine. I've also run it on XP desktops.
As domain admin i double click the policy script and nothing happens. I'm assuming its a 2008 server security feature? Any help would be great.
Thank you. This old post , you might try run script as administrator. User Account Control (UAC) first introduced in Windows Vista and you could right click on script and run as administrator or if you want to rewrite script, you may use PowerShell.

Hi,
We are in the process of Migrating Cisco CUCM & Voice Gateway (From another vendor to Cisco).
The requirement is all internal calls between Cisco IP Phones & Lync to be flown through CUCM. Means internal extension to extension. Remaining all calls like Mobile, National, International, Toll Free, Emergency, Shared numbers calling to be routed
to Cisco Voice Gateway.
We created the test dial plan, Voice policies, Route and assigned it to couple of user from Lync (2 extensions) and from Cisco side we have taken 2 IP Phones which is pointed to new CUCM. We tested all below scenarios, everything was working fine.
Lync to Lync Call using internal Extension number – Routed through Cisco new CUCM
Lync to Cisco Call using internal Extension number – Routed through Cisco new CUCM
Cisco to Lync Call using internal Extension number – Routed through Cisco new CUCM
Lync to Hotline Numbers (66XX, 68XX Numbers) – Routed through Cisco Gateway
Lync to Shared Numbers starting with 600 (Verified the number 600535353) - Routed through Cisco Gateway
Lync to Emergency numbers & Toll Free Numbers (Not verified the emergency Number as we decided to do it at end) - Routed through Cisco Gateway
Lync to Landline Numbers – Any 7 digit numbers - Routed through Cisco Gateway
Lync to National Numbers – Starting with 3,4,6,7,8 followed by 7 digits - Routed through Cisco Gateway
Lync to Mobile Phones – Starting with 05 contains exactly 10 digits - Routed through Cisco Gateway
Lync to International Numbers – Starting 00 contains at least 11 digits - Routed through Cisco Gateway
All Incoming calls – From Landline, Mobiles, International Numbers - Routed through Cisco Gateway
Call Transfer – To another Lync Extension, Cisco Extension, Landline, Mobiles, International Number
Conference – with another Lync Extension, Cisco Extension, Landline, Mobiles, International Number
Call Forwarding – To another Number, Voice mail
Response Groups
Click to call – As if user try to place a call by directly click the number from Outlook, Websites will be in E.164 format
Dial in meeting – Conference calls are works fine
But when we roll out to the production we are facing issues listed below
1) The phones we used during testing are working which is using same dial plan, Voice policy, Route, PSTN Usage. But from production most of the phones are not working (using the same dial plan, voice policy, Route). Also Problem is only with external calls
as the internal calls are working fine between Cisco & Lync even in production (Routed through CUCM) NOTE: All incoming calls are working fine (From international, local, national, extension)
2) How long its going to take for Lync to push the new voice policies, Dial plans to the Phones?
3) Is there a way to forcefully update the policies, dial plans to the Phone?
4) Also the environment is using over 100 dial plans, so I just copied and pasted the Normalization rules that we tested and working fine. Most of the dial plans are assigned to individual users as every dial plan contains a normalization rule for
international calling with Unique Prefix (Example: User John international Normalization rules says #1234#00#CountrycodePhonenumber, means if John has to place the international call he need to dial #1234# followed by 00 and then country code, then actual
phone number). In this case how long its take for the users / phones to get updated with new dial plans?
6) Is it recommended to use multiple dial plans ? What are the best practices?
5) Also calls are working fine one & failing on subsequent tries. Means when I dial first 1 or 2 times. Call fails, but when I try 3rd time and subsequently it works. After some again there will be failure during 1 or 2 attempts. Why is it so?
6) After updating the dial policies, voice Route, Voice policies If i reboot all the phones from Switch, Will the changes take effect immediately?
7) Also when some one calling from mobile or external number to Lync extensions they cant here any Dial tones or caller tunes? Its working fine when they call Cisco Extensions. Also to Lync its working if we dial in E.164 Format, if we dial like 023XXXXX
format its not working. Any guess about this issue?
Waiting for some one to help,
Best regards
Krishna
Thanks & Regards Krishnakumar BHi,
1. As all incoming call worked normally, please double check outgoing ports for Lync FE Server and Mediation Server.
You can refer to the link of “Ports and protocols for internal servers in Lync Server 2013” below:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg398833.aspx
2. When an administrator makes a change to Lync Server (for example, when an administrator creates a new voice policy or changes the Address Book server configuration settings) that change is recorded in the Central Management store.
In turn, the change must then be replicated to all the computers running Lync Server services or server roles.
So it may not replication completely immediately.
3. You can run the following cmdlet with Lync Server Management Shell on FE server to
forcibly replicate information to a computer: Invoke-CsManagementStoreReplication
4. As you used over 100 dial plans, it may be the issue of multiple dial plans. Would you please tell us why you created different dial plan for individual user with unique prefix?
5. Multiple dial plans and undue normalization rules may cause call fail. You can double check the normalization rule.
Best Regards,
Eason Huang

Policies assigned to groups - membership changes not working
I have a single ZESM IR8 server setup.
All security throughout my environment, ZESM and otherwise, is based on group membership.
If I change a user from one group to another group this change does not reflect in their policy assignment.
Scenario: GroupA = standard user policy, GroupB = power user policy.
UserA was first in Group A and therefore got the standard user policy.
UserA now requires the power user policy.
Remove UserA from GroupA and add UserA to GroupB (in iManager).
UserA does NOT get the "power user" policy that is assigned to GroupB
Am aware that I can assign the policy at a user level but this is NOT an option in my environment. All security assignments MUST happen at a group level. What you observed is the expected behavior.
ZESM doesn't updates group membership in real time once a policy has been published. I've described this behavior on previous posts.
What the MC does behind the scenes when you click "Publish" on a container or group object is to assign the policy individually to each member/user. For groups, it resolves membership at the time the policy is published then the MC iterates among each member assigning the policy to each of them. That's why you don't see updates once the policy is published.
Try Updating the published policy to see if that works. From the docs:
Updating a Published Policy
Once a policy has been published to the user(s) or computer(s), simple updates can be maintained by editing the components in a policy, and re-publishing. For example, if the ZENworks Endpoint Security Management Administrator needs to change the WEP key for an access point, the adminstrator only needs to edit the key, save the policy, and click Publish. The affected end-users and computers receive the updated policy (and the new key) at their next check-in.

Subject: Policies assigned to groups - membership changes not working
I have a single ZESM IR8 server setup.
All security throughout my environment, ZESM and otherwise, is based on
group membership.
If I change a user from one group to another group this change does not
reflect in their policy assignment.
Am aware that I can assign the policy at a user level but this is NOT
an option in my environment. All security assignments MUST happen at a
group level.

Fault policies locaton and test xpath conditions not working.
I cant place fault policies files in a non mds location or the composite directory.
For example it does not work with an /opt/...... server path in the composite.xml property.
Also, I can't get working xpath test expressions like this:
<condition>
<test xmlns:elem="http://na.telefonica.com/elementoscomunes">$fault.fault0/elem:AREA_ERROR/ErrorType = "F"</test>
<action ref="reintentos-neon"/>
</condition>
In jdeveloper, the part is "fault0", and the subelements are like i've showed, but the condition never matches.
I saw in a forum that the sintax was $fault.nameofpart/xpathexpression, but doesn't seem to work. I've tried lots of permutations of the syntax, and also with 'F' instead of "F".
¿Any Idea? This is the exception in the server GUI
<fault>
<bpelFault>
<faultType>1</faultType>
<OBA_Par_Alta_AveriaFault>
<part name="fault0">
<elem:AREA_ERROR>
<ErrorID>8888</ErrorID>
<ErrorType>F</ErrorType>
<ErrorDesc>Afsafds</ErrorDesc>
</elem:AREA_ERROR>
</part>
</OBA_Par_Alta_AveriaFault>
</bpelFault>
</fault>
