Revaluation to USD in XLR

Dear experts,
I have a  P&L statement created in XLR. This report is Periodic with YTD totals. I have a column expansion on the periodic figure column.
Once the report is generated, i want to revaluate every periodic balance to USD. However, the USD rate for each period is different.
If I set a parameter, then all the periods end up using the same rate.
How to have each period, use a rate specific to its period ?
Please advice.
Cheers,
gautam

  • General Ledger - Revaluation/Translation Process Question

    Application Release Version: 11.5.10.2
MRC: Not turned on for new entities. (See details below)
My customer has been using oracle from around 2001 and went through a process at the end of 2008 to setup a new chart of accounts and approx 6 different companies with multiple entities for each across different functional currencies. (The initial setup for these entities was done prior to my joining and I have no supporting documentation on what decisions were made and why.)
    Setup info:
Set of Books - 'Cumulative Translation Adjustment Account' defined as an 'Owners Equity Account'.
Revaluation - Gains and Loss accounts using the same account number as 'Cumulative Translation Adjustment Account'. Accounts being revalued are accounts that have outstanding Payables and Receivables balances as well
as our intercompany accounts that have outstanding balances. (Balances that need to be payed or received.)
    Question:
My question refers to the revaluation and translation process for the new entites that have a different functional currency from the reporting currency. (All under the same chart of accounts structure.)
For instance entity1 - Functional Currency = 'CAD' and has 'USD' transactions.
I understand that at the period end we need to revalue the 'USD' transactions to there 'Current' worth in 'CAD' as exchange rates will fluctuate. But shouldn't the 'Difference', revaluation amounts, be pushed to the Unrealised FX Gains/Loss account, not the 'Cumulative Translation Adjustment Account'. (I think this is normally only used when a company is using MRC?)
This obviously affects whether the period balance appears on the Balance Sheet or Income Statement report for the consolidated monthly report.
Also should these 'Revaluation' journals ever be reversed or just left to accumulate?
Then looking at the 'Translation' process, if value is pushed to the 'Cumulative Translation Adjustment Account' then the balance is translated based on the 'Average' period rate as the account is an 'Owners Equity Account', but this seems wrong for the 'Revaluation' balance to be converted at another rate?
Any help on this subject will be greatly appreciated.

Firstly, why would there be any difference between the total of customer/vendor sub-ledger balances and the balance on the reconciliation account(s)?  The posting to the reconciliation account is happening automatically right, when you are posting to a customer/vendor (basing on the reconciliation account assigned in the customer/vendor master)?  And system would not allow direct postings to reconciliation accounts, which eliminates the threat of reconciliation GL account going out of balance as compared to the sub-ledger accounts.
However, you can run FBL3N or FS10N for the reconciliation account(s) and match it with the total balance on all customers/vendors using transaction FBL5N/FBL1N.

  • Foreign Currency Revaluation for company code with multiple currencies

My company code has the following parallel currencies:
company code currency - USD (10)
    group currency - CAD (30)
    index currency - USD (50)
    transaction currency - CAD
When I execute F.05 for valuation of CAD open item in currency code 10, the program only posts adjustments to the company code currency 10; no postings to
index currency 50. As a result, my Revaluation document does not have balanced company code currency and index currency.
    For example:
    Open item                     = CAD 1,000
company code currency = USD 990
    group currency              = CAD 1000
    index currency              = USD 990
    Revaluation adjustment = USD 5
This adjustment is only posted at company code currency; no posting for Index currency.
As a result, company code currency is USD 995 but index currency remains at USD 990.
    Pls. advise corrective measures.
    Thanks!

Currently, I have the following settings:
    Chart of Accounts           xxxxx
    GL account                    xxxxx
    Currency                        blank
    Curr type                        blank
F.05 calculates foreign currency adjustment based on above.  I tried your proposed solution, and added new entries for currency USD and curr types 10 & 50, but still the program does not post to curr 50, only to curr 10.

  • FX Revaluation

We are currently using a modified version of the standard SAP program SAPF100 which allows open item managed accounts to be revalued based upon special ledger (SL) balances.
The documentation for the implementation states this was done because a large number of balance sheet accounts were flagged as 'open item managed' and therefore the standard SAPF100 couldn't be used to revalue GL balances.
Has anyone else come across this problem?  It also raises the following other questions:
    1)  Is it bad practice to have the majority of your balance sheet accounts flagged as 'open item managed'
    2)  If you have a large amount of open item flagged accounts does it mean the SAPF100 open item program can't be used because it takes so long to run?
    3)  When using our modified SL revaluation program it effectively revalues closed items, because they are not matched at attribute level e.g. when a GBP balance is cleared with a USD balance, the GL treats it as closed, but in the SL it continues to revalue the USD balance - this seems incorrect?  Any ideas?
Any information you could provide on this would be much appreciated
    Thanks
    John

    Hi John,
    many questions )
    1.
Yes, having almost all B/S accounts open item managed is indeed a bit weird. Clearing, in terms of matching of debit and credit items, is not applicable for most of the accounts. Ie., speaking of clearing of a bank G/L accounts has just no sense.
If you cannot clear the open items (and you cannot as there is no logical connection between the debits and the credits), they will remain open forever. Technically, they will remain in table BSIS and never come to table BSAS. In addition, the documents involved can never be archived.
Pls. consider reprt RFSEPA03 which cna be used to switch off open item management on selected G/Ls. Note: you may receive a message not to use this prgram anymore. Pls. refer to OSS note 175960 on this issue (you have to copy it to a Z report).
    2.
Yes, as open item management would inherite that after some time, items getting cleared (moved from BSIS to BSAS). In fact, the number of cleared items will become much higher than the (actual) open items as time goes by. In your case, you cannot clear your items, so every time, SAPF100 (and any other report operating on open item vs. cleared items basis) will need more and more time to run.
    3.
This is hard to answer as I have no clue on how your SAPF100 was modified. But this may be similar to possible side effects if the flag SKB1-XSALH (balances in local currency only) in the GL master record is NOT set for non-open item managed B/S acounts that are kept in local currency.. Example: account currency is GBP (your local currency), i.e, postings in any currency are allowed, B/S account, NOT open item managed. In this case, if you post once in your lifetime an item in, say, HUF (Hungarian Forint) to your account, that HUF balance would be revaluated forever.
Of course, the above is for non open item managed accounts only. Open items always updating the account balance in their document currency. However, if they get cleared, SAPF100 would not revaluate them again. In SL, the items are ust items, however, so your modified SAPF100 considers the foreign currency (USD) items as subject to revaluation. You could adopt your modification accordingly:  check back if the SL item is cleared in GL already, and in this case, skip it.
    Hope that helps, points welcome

  • Open item Revaluation question

    Hi,
Can anyone tell me why does system creates reverse postings for Foreign currency valuation even though I do not check the "Revese Postings" check box in F.05 transaction. I was reading the documentation on F.05 or SAPF100 program I am not sure what does the below information mean (I have copied the below information from the F.05 performance assistant) Please explain me the difference between the statements valuation that effects financial statements & valuation that does not effect financial statements because I see that in the second case the postings are reversed in next period. Your help is highly appreciated and awarded with points.
    Thanks is advance,
    Kumar
    Example for valuation postings
An invoice for 100 USD is posted using the local currency 170 DEM.
On the key date, the item is valuated using an exchange rate of 1.50. A valuation expense of ( 150 - 170 ) 20 DEM arises. This is posted as follows:
Expense acct to FS adjustment account at key date
    230010 140099 20 DEM
Valuation that affects the financial statements
For a valuation that affects the financial statements, the valuation difference is noted in the item. The valuation difference is cleared when the invoice is cleared.
A valuation that does not affect the financial statements
For a valuation that does not affect the financial statements, all postings are reversed at the reverse date. You can enter a special period as the reversal period.
Expense acct to FS adjustment account at key date
    230010 140099 20 DEM
    Reversal
    140099 230010 20 DEM

    Hi Nitin,
You can run the revaluation valuation to follow the steps:-
    1 This month ending activity.
2  You need to enter exchange rate through OB08 and make your exchange rate enter in Variant, P,M,I.
3  Run the program thorugh Transaction Code-FAGL_FC_VAL.
System show screen enter the company code , Valuation key date (Date should be month ending),
Document date, posting date is date valuation key date. Reversal posting date (Which you want to run the reverse the document) It should be next date of month.
    Select Create Posting
    Select Reversal Posting
    Executive.

  • 11i General Ledger : Translation and Revaluation issue.

    Hi,
I'll post the problem as descriptively as i can.
    * The client has an Equity account under the natural code of 7341. He has not defined the GL : Owner's Equity Translation rule.
    * The currency rate table shows that the rate type used for this natural code is Period
    * Functional currency is USD
In August 2006, the client had made an entry to this account to the value of AUD 24,713 which was converted at journal entry point to USD 18,977. The entry was subsequently reversed in September 2008 and the USD book shows a '0' balance after it, which is correct. Just before the reversal the balance was USD 21,332 (taking into account subsequent revaluations till Aug 2008)
Client performs monthly translations and revaluations. In August 2006, the entry was translated to LKR books with a value of LKR 1,929,634. After which monthly revaluations which happened in the functional currency books also got translated and hit the LKR books till September 2008.
The total USD reversal in USD books as stated earlier was USD 21,332. This comprised of an initial entry and subsequent revaluations that were translated LKR books at different historical rates. But the reversal was translated to LKR books only on the closing rate as at September 2008. Leaving a small LKR balance of just over 100k.
Is there anyway that the client can perform the translation in such a way that after the reversal the closing value of the LKR books is also '0'. Please note that he is not willing to change the classification of the account from Owner's Equity.
    Thanks,
    Miranga

Instead of reversing the Original Journal, Pass a reversal entry nullifying the effect of the Original Entry.
    Hope it resolves your issue.

  • The bank GL line items are getting revaluated as per exchange rate

We have done config for foreign currency valuation for customers and
vendors.Earlier we did for GLs also but now that is deleted. Now an
advance in USD is posted. The entry is there in Rs in pass book entry
in FF67. At the time of bank reconciliation, the system revalues the
amount so the amount in pass book and sap does not match. Knocking off
is not possible in such case. How to knock off the amount without
    revaluation ?Please suggest.

    hjI,
It seems that you are maintaining the bank account in local currency. But in SAP you have not maintained the gl account as balance in local curerency. Now to eliminate the difference in foreign you can use f-05. Here you can post the difference in single currency to eliminate the difference in that currency.

    Hi Gurus,
Could anybody give me inputs regarding the reval of Foreign currency maintained Balance sheet accounts which are not maintained in open item, mean revaluation of account balances into local currency..

Explain the of treatment of bank sub accounts also (Incoming/Outgoing) in FCurrency Revaltime, i think if any differences comes from open items they have to update unrealized accounts only not to realized accounts correct me if my understanding is mistaken.
I'm clear about revaluation of open items accounts at OBA1 config and the process(Recon acct).
To de FC reval these what are the configuration steps i have take care and where.
    Thanks in advance,
    Vyas

    Hi
In F.05, go to selections tab, Tick 'valuate GL account balances' and mention the GL code for Bank Header accounts which are maintained in Forex
OB59 and OBA1 are the config settings . Also make sure that new rates are updated in the system before any forex revaluation

  • Revaluation in R12 -

    Hi,
I got acquainted with the documentation describing the principle of the revaluation program and see that the standard mechanism in Polish Localization did not satisfy our Client needs.
Calculation is not correct according to the Luxembourg accounting rules, because at the time of the positive and negative exchange rate differences on one account claims or liabilities arising from different transactions, the system will show the differences in balance, and reference them into account currency fluctuations.
According to the Luxembourg rules should be calculated from the difference in the currency of each transaction entered in the assets and liabilities, and only negative differences should be taken into account in the income statement.
Please help me solve the problem, maybe other localizations meets these requirements?
I put the SR on Metalink and I got the answer: "Add-On localizations team confirmed they do not have functionality for this. Also in standard Belgium Localizations (JE) there is no such functionality. So I think you will need to look into customization."
Of course if no one has met with such a requirements I will prepare customization...

    Hi
Funding revaluation is adjusting the funding allocated to the project in Functional Currency.
The revaluated funding amount should equal the following components:
The receipts applied to the project invoices as they were converted on the receipt date to the functional currency (Including any realized exchange rate gain or loss) +
Future receipts from unpaid invoices and agreement backlog converted to functional currency using the revaluation date exchange rate.
The difference between newly revaluated funding amount and previous value of total funding in functional currency is the additional amount allocated to the project as a funding line.
In the example of the user guide, original funding amount was 1,000,000 GBP, which equal 1,550,000 USD.
During first period invoice billed for 300,000 GBP.
You received 200000 GBP which were converted to 308,000 USD.
That AR transaction was recorded as - Cash applied 310,000 USD (200,000 GBP at 1.55) + Exchange rate gain/loss -2000 USD.
At end of period the due invoices were 100,000 GBP, and backlog (unbilled) was 700,000 GBP. Those 800,000 GBP should be revalued using the exchange rate of 1.58.
That brings us to 1,264,000 USD.
The total amount of revaluated funding should be = 308,000 + 1,264,000 = 1,572,000 USD.
The revaluated funding is higher than previous original funding by 22,000 USD (=1572000-1550000).
Therefore, system will create a revaluation funding line with 22,000 USD allocated to the project.

    Jhaanu

    Dear Jhaanu,
Please fallow below Details and see step by step. it should help full for you..
    Purpose
This wiki provides a demonstration of valuation of Open Items In Foreign Currencies
    Overview
From the help.sap.com documentation the following is stated
Valuation of Open Items in Foreign Currencies.
    Use
All open items in foreign currency are valuated as part of the foreign currency valuation:
The individual open items of an account in foreign currency form the basis of the valuation, that is, every open item of an account in foreign currency is valuated individually.
Example of open items are customers, Vendors, or GL accounts managed on open item basis (SKB1-XOPVW = X)
The total difference from all the open items in an account is posted to a financial statement adjustment account. The account therefore retains its original balance.
The exchange rate profit or loss from the valuation is posted to a separate expense or revenue account for exchange rate differences as an offsetting posting.
A valuation cannot be made by posting to the payables/receivalbes account, since reconcilation accounts cannot be directly posted to.
For this reason the amount is posted to an adjustment account, which appears in the same line of the balance sheet as the reconcilation account
    Step 1 - General customizing
Local currency of company EUR -
Implementation Guide: Financial accounting (New) -> Financial accounting global settings (New) -> global Parameters for company code - Transaction code OBY6
    Exchange rate 1 USD = 1,7 EUR
Implementation Guide: SAP NetWeaver -> General settings -> Currencies (check all settings) -> Enter Exchange rates (Transaction code OB08)
    Step 2 - Create Invoice
SAP Easy Access -> Accounting -> Financial accounting -> Accounts payable -> Document entry -> FB60 Invoice
    Post document
    Display document posted via FB03
Change in exchange rate occurs 1 USD now equals 1,63 EUR
SAP Easy Access Screen choose -> Accounting -> Financial Accounting -> Accounts Payable -> Accounting -> FBL1N -Display/Change Line items
Step 3 - Review of Foreign Currency Valuation customizing
Prior to performing a foreign currency valuation review of customizing:
Implementation Guide:Finanical Accounting (New) -> General Ledger Accounting (New) -> Periodic Processing -> Valuate
    Define Valuation Methods
    Define valuation Areas
    Define Accounting Principles
Check Assignment of Accounting princples to ledger Group
*required if you have more than one ledger
Perpare Automatic Postings for Foreign Currency Valuation
Select Transaction KDF, enter Chart of Accounts
The Target Accounts for KDB/KDF can also be defined per valuation area
    Account Determination per Valuation Area
Step 4 - Perform Foreign Currency Valuation
To perform a foreign currency valuation, from the SAP Easy Access Screen, choose Accounting -> Financial Accounting ->
General ledger/Accounts Receivable/Accounts Payalbe -> Periodic processing -> Closing -> Valuate -> Foreign Currency Valuation (New)
    Transaction FAGL_FC_VAL (Program FAGL_FC_VALUATION)
    Execute
    Click on Postings button
To create valuation documents create postings must be ticked on, if you execute without create postings ticked, this means that program is run in test mode.
If there are errors when posting, a batch input session is created (transaction SM35)
Update run is saved in table FAGL_BSBW_HISTRY

  • Foreign Currency - Revaluation / Translation

    Hi:
I wanted to discuss and understand the best practice for foreign currency revaluation and translation routine.
This is how we do and configured the revaluation / translation routine:
    Valuation Area:
SG for revaluation - Currency Type 10 (Local)
S2 for translation - Currency Type 30 (Group)
    Valuation Method: EVR (Always Valuate)
In the ledger currencies for 30, "Translation taking transaction currency as a basis".
Plus other coniguration for account determination (both revaluation and translation). - OBA1 and "Define Account detemination for currency translation".
Based on this configuration, we run following transactions at month end:
    Revaluation:  FAGL_FC_VAL using S2
    Translation: FAGL_FC_TRANS using SG
So what it does is, it revalue document currency into local currency and then translate document currency into group currency.
Ideally, what should be as per GAAP is: Revalue document currency into local currency and then translate local currency into group currency.
In our configuration, we are not able to translate out of local books. The configuration translates from document currency to group currency.
Are we missing anything in the configuration or this is standard? What is the best practice or how other companies are running the revaluation/translation routine?
    Scenario is:
    Document Currency: AUD
    Local Currency: GBP
    Group Currency: USD
    Please advise.
    Thanks.
    Rahul

As per US GAAP, FASB 52 -
    Step (1):-
Re-measurement - Revalue all the balance sheet accounts/open items with 'Document currency' other than 'Local currency' based on spot rate and post this difference to a P&L account (Unrealized Exchange Gain/Loss Account) in 'Local currency'. Do not impact the 'Group currency' here.
    Step (2):-
B/S Translation - Revalue all balance sheet accounts from 'Local currency' to 'Group currency' based on the spot rate and post the difference to Cumulative Translation Adjustment account (CTA) in 'Group currency' only. CTA is balance sheet account.
    Step (3):-
Unrealized Exchange Gain/Loss Translation - Revaluate the P&L account that's been used in step(1) for exchange differences, from 'Local currency' to 'Group currency' based on spot rate and post the difference to Cumulative Translation Adjustment account (CTA) in 'Group currency' only.
    Notes:-
    1) Equity and retained earning accounts are never revaluated.
    2) CTA account is grouped together with Equity accounts in reporting.

    Ganesh

  • Currency revaluation in Parallel Currency

    Hi,
Having set up parallel currency (currency type 40) in FI and FI-AA. Local Currency is CNY; Parallel Currency is USD.
As soon as a time lag exists between two activities i.e. incurring costs in January - settlement and capitalize costs in March a different translation rate is applied to CNY/USD. Therefore a difference in USD incurrs.
Is there a way to revaluate parallel currency differences within standard SAP?
Is there a way to post clear this difference manually in the parallel ledger in USD without influencing the main ledger in CNY?
Technical infos: SAP ECC 6.0 without new G/L

    Hi,
first of all, you cannot avoid this differences, but this is completely OK.
Of course you can revaluate in currency type 40. The posting would be then like this:
(original account to be revaluated vs. P/L gain/loss account):
    Amount in doc.currency = 0 xxx
Amount in company code currency (CT 10) = 0 CNY
Amount in hard currency (CT40) = xxx USD.
So only the items / balances in CT40 are changed, no impact on CNY.
HOw to achieve this: either you run F.05 (SAPF100) for currency type 40 (recommended) or you post manually in F-05, this transaction allows you to enter the value of 0 in any amount field (at least 1 amount, in this case, CT40 USD amount, must be of course greater than zero) without converting the doc.currency and/or local currency amounts immediately.
    Hope that helps, points welcome

  • GL account not to be valued in year end foreign currency revaluation

    Hi
I have given payments in USD from my INR bank account. In year end valuation, that account should not be revalued since it is in INR.
so i am putting tick in "Only balance in local currency" in FS00.
Inspite of the tick, that GL account is revalued in FAGL_FC_VAL. Let me know how to prevent the valuation for the same.

There is no exchange revaluation key in the GL account control data section. Infact the field is supressed in FS00
