Reverting to older nvidia drivers

I recently discovered the simplistic beauty of Archlinux.  I finally found a distro that I'm happy with!
With that said, I'm having trouble finding archive repositories, or even archived packages for that matter, that contain versions of packages that I need to revert back to.  In this particular instance, I need to revert my nvidia driver back to 100.14.x because the newer drivers completely hose UT2004.
What's the proper way to do this, and can pacman handle it?
Thanks.

Er, you should do that *anyway*. (Edit:) Just because binary distros can usually get away with not doing so, doesn't mean it's a good idea to assume that it's not necessary.
The point is, you should reinstall the nvidia drivers using a pkgbuild.
So far as I can remember, the nvidia packages (nvidia and nvidia-utils for me, i686) are upgraded coinciding with each kernel upgrade. Though, I have been zonked by a kernel upgrade which preceded an nvidia upgrade that followed a day later- In which case I simply built against the new kernel with a PKGBUILD, as you suggest.
Basically, whenever I have an nvidia issue that I can't solve, I check the forums and Brebs usually has already posted the answer.

  • Nvidia drivers (Older version)

Can someone pls make packages of older Nvidia drivers. I have some performance loss problems with new drivers and i could not find nothing older then 177.80 for pacman.
I have no xperence in making packages, and i dont wanna mess up. I need
    NVIDIA-Linux-169.12
    NVIDIA-Linux-173.14.09
take a look in this topic http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=60746
    Thanks in advance!

I don't see how using really old drivers will help your performance, assuming they're even compatible. Here they are if you really want:
    nvidia 169.12-4
    nvidia 173.14.09-5

  • Older Mobo/Newer Nvidia Drivers

Having some weird issues with the newest nvidia ethernet driver (67.89), here is my system specs on this 2+ year old system:
    MSI P6N Plat (BIOS 1.7)
    Q6600@stock speed
    4gig RAM@800mhz
    Windows XP Pro 32bit SP3
I decided to upgrade all the nforce drivers to the latest, and after the 15.25 installer removed the nforce ethernet, it rebooted and
continued the install with the newest drivers. Now I usually set the network connection to show when it's connected in the taskbar. When the computer boots into windows with the new driver, this icon doesn't pop up, and when I try to load a web browser, it acts as if
there is no connection. As soon as I open up the Network Connections or device manager areas, the icon will pop up and I can then connect. I have never had this much of a delay in loading this driver at bootup. If I sit at the desktop and do nothing, the icon/connection never shows up.
So I went back to the MSI site, and I see they currently list an older version of the nforce drivers for this board still, so I downloaded those, and only chose to install the ethernet driver (67.15). Now I'm back to having my adapter/connection load up right away, but this is with a mismatch of nvidia drivers. I'm just wondering if anyone else has come across this with the new drivers, or doesn't have these issues with the new nvidia driver. It may work better with a fresh OS install, but since I got it working the way it was, I'd rather not do a reinstall just for the new driver. I'm not having any other issues with the system.

Yes, I was hoping not to break anything, but the risk was low (lower than a BIOS update for sure). Usually when issues do arise, the first thing someone asks is "Do you have the latest drivers?". While nothing was broke, my main hope was for slightly better performance than before, which we are all trying to get out of our rigs.
I was wondering if anyone here with the same motherboard might have run into this too. I guess I'm more worried I will end up doing a fresh reinstall one day a few years from now and only have access to the latest drivers, and wonder what the issue is. I'll probably be installing a different OS at that time anyways.

  • Red vertical banding lines in Photoshop CC images - suspect is latest Nvidia drivers

Anyone getting this in their images when viewing at 25% or under? The problem goes away if I uncheck Use Graphics Processor and then restart Photoshop CC, so my latest suspect in this mystery is the latest update by Nvidia, their 335.23 drivers. Has anyone had this issue and successfully got it to stop by reverting back to an older Nvidia driver set?
I'm running Photoshop CC 64-bit, latest version, on Windows 8.1, latest updates applied. I just built the PC 3 months ago, has i7 4930K, 32GB ram, dedicated separate SSDs for C drive and Adobe Scratch Disk, and yes, I did uninstall and reinstall PS CC and selected "Remove Pref Files". I'm fairly sure it's the latest Nvidia driver that's causing the issue. Oh, graphics card is EVGA GTX 770, this model.
I'll paste in the long hairy list of info from Photoshop, but there won't be any more of my wording below it. Thanks in advance.

Yes, I have three onboard raid0 all attached directly to a Gigabyte X79-UD5 using Intel Enterprise driver.  The boot driver I mention is a new thing, which I added after a major system crash left me needing a clean reinstall.
When I first built the system it had no raid0 at all - just a single 'Raptor I had hoped to use for the Project drive, but PremPro wouldn't play nicely with that, so I had to add another and raid0 them.  I could scrub the timline smoothly after that with as many tracks on the timeline as I needed, (all 1080 H.264)  I lost one of those Velociraptors, so replaced with a pair of 6th gen 1Tb V'raptors in raid0.  They give me 350Mbs continuous, but their 4k speed is still not special.
I also have a pair of WD1Tb Blacks in a raid0 for Exports, my docs, and I used to keep cache, and other large files on that drive before I upgraded the boot drive.
Altogether I have 18Tb because of the need to back up the video, which is done with USB3 externals.  I recently added a Seagate 4Tb USB3 external (to help organise files while reinstalling everything) and that is showing 185Mb/s sequentual, which is much faster than my single drive internals!  I guess they just keep making things better.

  • [GeForce4 Ti] Ti4200 TV out doesn't work properly with 78.01 Nvidia Drivers

I downloaded the new Nvidia drivers because the computer was restarting suspiciously after installing a new DVD unit and cloning to the TV. I downloaded the drivers and installed, restarted and everything was working properly. However, when I tried cloning to the TV I got this black and white scrambling terrible image. I have tried checking the plug and everything, changing from PAL to NSTC-M (and some others too) but to no avail. Changing to another resolution, color, etc will only get it worse.
    Any suggestions?
    H A R A

Then just revert back to the 71.84's and see if the problem continues. Instead of going up, go back if you still have problems. You could even try the 71.89's
I don't recommend re-installing your OS unless you've done it before. It can be a big project if you haven't taken the proper steps to prepare. I don't do that unless it's absolutely necessary, you aren't there yet...
How about you read my suggestions for posting and getting better answers at the top of this vga forum, create a signature, then come back after trying the previous drivers, and if necessary, some older ones. If you stilll have problems, then come back with some history of your PC and what you've tried.
You may want to consider using driver cleaner http://www.drivercleaner.net make sure you read and follow the instructions...

  • 790FX-GD70 + unlocked 720BE + Nvidia Drivers = Failed boot?

Good evening folks! Been quite a while since I last played in these forums (the rig in my sig is 3+ years old, and long gone....     ), but it's great to see that the tradition of a helpful community seems to have continued on in my absence.
I've didn't have any luck with a search for previous posts on the issue I'm having, but if it's a common issue and I missed a post or faq I'd be happy for a link.
    So now to the meat......
I recently returned from the darkside and purchased my first AMD system since AMD dropped S939. I decided on the 790FX-GD70 paired with a 720be and some OCZ ram. Everything on the board seems to be working fine, but I ran into a snag when I loaded the 1.52 beta bios in order to unlock the 4'th core.
The core unlocks fine, and XP completes the initial load (scroll bar), but hangs on a black screen just before getting to the logon page. I immediately suspected a problem loading the vid drivers, and removed the nvidia drivers. The stock XP vid drivers allowed me to boot into windows normally which verified my original suspicions (CPU-Z confirms 4 cores). Re-installing the latest drivers causes windows to hang at the same place, and this doesn't happen without ACC unlocking the 4'th core.
    Any ideas?
    My current hardware is:
    790FX-GD70
    720BE
    OCZ 1600 DDR3
    Sparkle GTX275 Plus

I won't post passwords to MSI FTP, but Tony over at OCZ was good enough to post the the bios updates: http://www.ocztechnologyforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=59825
Cool!!! Thanks a lot for the link, not only did I get the bios file, but it also put me in the right area to check out Tony's suggested settings on this board for my memory.
edit: It might be a week or so by the time I get around to playing with this (I have other committments with the board that can be satisfied by OCing just the 3 cores for now), but I will report back if I have any luck with the 153 bios, or if an older set of drivers makes the difference.

  • Sever issue with Xorg and Nvidia Drivers

I run a 2.6.20 kernel with Xorg and Nvidia drivers all from arch rep on a Asus NV6200. Everything works fine, except one thing. When I exit X, the monitor shuts down imediatly. It wont start up at all, not even by manual startup. I cant understand what happens. The configuration is correct, is done with the correct settings for my video-card and monitor taken directly from the documentation. I cant use my X server at all since several days ... I checked the logs and there are no EE's. Anyway ... here is the log. Help anyone can help, I cant use X at all.

No ... the problem is in the kernel that comes precompiled.
    I did this test.
The first time I installed the kernel I unloaded nvidiafb since I dont like it.
When I install nvidiafb back something strange happends. Nvidia module fails to load.
The modprobe sais it cannot find the device nvidia.ko ... but it is there!
So my best guess is, there is something with the kernel. Any ideas?
    Problem resolved, installed older driver

  • Limited to one display mode with new nvidia drivers

I have a problem with nvidia drivers after 8178
I can get any display mode to work as long as i specify only one mode.
If i enter more modes in my xorg.conf, it will ignore all those modes and revert back to nvidia-auto-select (wich is 1024x768 in my case)
Anyway, i'm not able to change resolutions using xrandr for example. I need this for some applications that require to run in a different display mode ( old windows games i run using wine for example)
When i run X -logverbose 5 it becomes clear that all my monitor's supported modes are in the display pool.
I have also put in gtp generated modelines for all the modes i might need.
I really need a solution to this as i will probably no longer be able to use 8178 when xorg7.1 hits current.
This is what i have in my xorg.conf:

  • MBPr Nvidia Drivers Crashing in Windows 7 (64-bit) False graphic switch?

    Hey Guys
This is my first posting here because I simply don't know what to do anymore. Yesterday I was playing Borderlands 2 on my MBPr 2.3ghz version with every thing setting on high (Physx and AO turned off or low) and resolution of 1680x1050 and it runs at 60fps constantly.
Later on, I checked my desktop and saw a notification that my Nvidia Drivers has stopped working and after that all my 3D applications were slower. Borderlands 2 only ran at 20 frames now with the same settings and other games just didnt run so well anymore.
I have tried updating my Nvidia drivers and I also tried rolling back to an older driver but the results remain the same. The notification of the drivers crashing has vanished because I wanted to archieve the message but when I wanted to see my stored archieved messages it wasn't there.
My computer still shows that I do have an Nvidia Geforce 650m and according to other sources the Intel HD Graphics cannot be used in bootcamp but I have a strong feeling it did switch to it.

UPDATE: I fixed this issue by reseting the SMC! Hope this helps if anyone else had this issue!

  • XP Bootcamp nVidia drivers

Ok, this is an outstanding question/problem I have posted on another forum. Video drivers. ATI and nVidia are constantly updating drivers for performance increases and bug fixes but I have yet to get some kind of answer on how/if/where I am able to download these drivers.
Do they work? Which ones? Are any drivers ok that I would download on a normal windows based machine work?
I have a MBP (specs in sig) that I play games on. I'd like to enjoy the bug fixes and performance increases that the rest of the world uses =( Can I? Does anybody know the answer to these questions?
Thanks! Hope I don't sound too desparate

OK - so maybe I spoke too soon. I downloaded those drivers and installed them, but thank God I did a system restore. For some reason it wouldn't go beyond 4-bit. I went into advanced and managed a 800x600 in 8-bit, but there was no nVidia control panel, no resolution/bit options. I was thoroughly confused.
    Sorry to hear.
Seems like the Nvidia drivers are not so generally useable they claim them to be.
But glad to hear that you caould easily revert back.
Another option to try would be the Drivers/Modders from DriverHeaven http://www.driverheavendownloads.net/index.htm
I haven't tried these myself, so I can not report on how good they are.
    Good Luck

  • Black preview in PE 10 using recent nVidia drivers

Premier Elements 10 was working fine. Then I upgraded my nVidia drivers and after that the preview displayed only black video (audio was fine). Windows 7 and Quicktime are all up to date. Problem exists with all video file types to which I have access. I even downloaded some extra popular free codec packs, and still no workie. So I reverted back to nVidia driver 320.49, and the video preview came back again. This is not an unknown issue: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1317675?tstart=0
I want to upgrade my video driver so I can use Shadowplay. First, has the above issue ever been resolved? Second, if not, can anyone speak to whether I'm going to have the same problem in the latest version of Premier Elements? I'm not sure I'm keen on the idea of forking over to Adobe another $100+ to resolve an issue that I consider an Adobe bug. If I'm forced to buy another product, perhaps I'll go with a different vendor. Any recommendations?

    fersman4
There is no fix to the Premiere Elements 10 NVIDIA video card issue other than roll back of the driver version to as far back as to when you no longer get the display issue. Neither NVIDIA nor Adobe has stepped forward to correct the problem.
This issue presents as specific for the Premiere Elements 10 NVIDIA users. We have not seen reports of this type of thing in any other version to date.
If you wish to continue with Premiere Elements 12, please go the free 30 day try out route before purchase.
The above is the situation as I believe it to exist to date.

  • Yet another black screen on TTY with nvidia drivers

    Hi everyone,
I've just changed my hardware and immediately installed a fresh Arch on it. Everything was fine until I installed the nvidia drivers: from that moment, once the boot is complete I get a normal (and working) GDM login screen, but I cannot switch to TTY with Ctrl+Alt+Fn. If I do, the screen goes black, but even worse, the monitor goes into sleep mode and I cannot get back to X (with Ctrl+Alt+F1).
The machine is still working correctly though, as I can get access to it via SSH. The only problem is that I cannot use the virtual consoles unless I want to lose all X display until the next reboot (restarting it via systemctl restart gdm doesn't work).
I also tried lightdm as a replacement but it's still the same.
However, when using the nouveau driver, everything works as expected and I can switch from one TTY to another as much as I want. Of course, I'd like to keep the nvidia driver for various reasons.
I found a lot of similar issues on the web and on this forum but none had this "additional little annoying thing" which is the sleep mode that can't be reverted but with a reboot.
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    I found that at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UEFI
Set up the BIOS in EFI or Legacy mode
Some recent computers (>2011) allow to set up the boot either in UEFI mode or in Legacy (not-EFI) mode. The way to carry out this setting depends on the computers, but generally this setting is located in the "Boot order" tab of the BIOS (to access the BIOS screens, it is generally necessary to press a key during the PC startup).
Note: Some BIOSes (e.g. American Megatrends' "Aptio", found on the Asus vivobook series) call Legacy mode "Compatibility Support Module" or simply "CSM".
So if that applies to your machine, you might be able to boot Windows7 with UEFI mode and Arch+Nvidia with Legacy BIOS mode, without changing anything to the installation (the BIOS boot loader seems to be compatible wih GPT partition table, but there is to configure something for it to work see https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/GPT#BIOS_systems).
If you can't do that and you really do not want to use the nouveau driver, you have no other choice than to wait for Nvidia to release an UEFI compatible driver, and not to work in tty console mode.
You can also try to search how some has succeeded to use the efifb frame buffer with the nvidia driver, with special configurations.
But, apart from the BIOS switch between boot loaders,  the two easiest approaches for you are either to use the nouveau driver or to not work in tty console mode when using the nvidia driver.
Maybe you could find something better but it will be more complicated, I don't know if you have time and motivation to go this way...
Nvidia will surely release a UEFI compatible driver sooner or later...
    Regards.

  • NVIDIA Drivers on Windows 8.1

After installing Windows 8.1, I have been unable to use the NVIDIA graphics drivers. My Thinkpad W520 has NVIDIA Optimus with the Intel HD 3000 and the NVIDIA Quadro 1000M. I have tried to install various drivers, including the most recent one from Lenovo (made for Windows 8), the most recent one from the NVIDIA website, and the version in Windows Update. All three of them quit halfway and fail to install the driver. Windows Update gives this error: Code 8007000D.

    Hello.
Since my initial Windows 8 installation on my W520 (installation guide linked above in this thread), I've once switched back to Windows 7, due to unrelated compatibility issues, f.e. constant WLAN drops, but I've switched completely over to Win8.1.1 now, and what I've always done regarding my GPU setup in Windows is keeping it on Optimus in BIOS, then installing the latest Optimus drivers from Lenovo: (The Win8 drivers work perfectly in 8.1), and then updating the nVidia drivers through their latest driver package. (Currently running 333.11 and I have no reason to upgrade)
One thing to be mindful of, do not allow Windows Update to upgrade your Intel or nVidia drivers. Stick to the Lenovo drivers completely for the Intel HD and to the nVidia drivers for the Quadro. Through my experience with all my ThinkPads, allowing Windows Update to upgrade hardware drivers has lead to nothing but trouble.
    1. NVIDIA Optimus Display Driver for Windows 8 (64-bit)
    2. QUADRO DESKTOP/QUADRO NOTEBOOK DRIVER RELEASE 340
(During the nVidia install, I recommend selecting Custom Installation and checking perform a clean install, thus eliminating any conflicts with older drivers/settings)
Instead of Step 1., you can also allow the ThinkVantage System Update to handle all your initial driver installs before upgrading the display drivers for the Quadro, it's basically the same thing, but the TVSU does everything for you in a single swoop, and is very handy.
    Hope this helps out. Cheers!

  • GTX 560 Ti Twin Frozr II - Nvidia drivers keep crashing?

Until recently I owned a GF8800 GT 512MB which worked like a charm. Never had a single problem with it. I bought the MSI GTX 560 Ti about a month ago. Ever since then I've had the nvidia drivers crash randomly every few hours. I though it might be a driver bug so I waited for an update, but since then I've updated the drivers twice (2 new stable releases and 1 beta), tried a "clean install" also and every version had the same problem. So it's obviously not a driver issue.
When I say crash, I mean the screen goes blank, the monitor turns itself off for a few secs, and when it comes back on, I get a tray notification that the "Nvidia driver stopped working/crashed and has recovered" (something like that).
I'd also like to point out that my PC really is 100% rock solid/stable and I have zero other problems besides this GPU issue.
Is this a faulty GPU or is there a solution for this annoying problem?
    PC specs:
    CPU: i7 930
    MB: Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R
    RAM: 3x2GB DDR3 1600MHz 8-8-8-24 Corsair
GPU: GTX 560 Ti Twin Frozr II 1GB DDR5
    HDD: Intel SSD 320 120GB, 2x320GB Seagate (Raid0), 1x500GB Seagate
    PSU: Corsair VX650W
    OS: Win7 x64 Ultimate
EDIT: In case it helps, this has so far only happened during normal work in windows, never during gaming. So my guess would be a problem with the 2d software/hardware perhaps?
EDIT2: Kombustor temps are: 35-40 idle, 75-77 on load (no user overclock ofc, only the factory one).

I recently bought the Gigabyte GTX 560 Ti SOC and I'm having similar problems too. So I guess Rasha here is correct when saying:
But it's not as annoying as it sounds, because, at least for me, the driver might restart only one time during a desktop session and then it's stable for the whole time along. I have been playing Skyrim these days with no problems. I do suspect too that firefox - flash might be one of the causes of the problem. I might try the older drivers Rasha speaks off later today.
There is definitely a problem with the 28x.xx and 290.36 beta drivers.  Please see link below:
    http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=215256
I am having this 'TDR' problem as well and have been helping nVidia by testing some drivers.  Not really sure how long it will take to fix this but ManuelG (nVidia customer relations) did say the new WHQL driver has been delayed as they are trying to find a fix.

  • T420s Nvidia Drivers

    Howdy,
I am looking for an older version of Nvidia drivers, specifically: 8.17.12.7658.  The new version (9620) doesn't allow me to select the Nvidia card for certain applications like VLC, WMP, or Media Player Classic.  That being said, I know the Nvidia card automatically runs everything connected to an external monitor however when not using an external monitor, I was able to set my defaults allowing me to multitask without the Intel card being the sole provider.  The old version allowed you to set each specific application, that is why I need to downgrade.  I've searched on Lenovo Support for old drivers but to no avail.  Any help would be appreciated.  Also in the past, Nvidia drivers were more up to date then Lenovo's however when Nvidia added this feature (not being able to select specific programs, or shading the option to), I jumped back to Lenovo's 7658.  My fault for updating to the latest Lenovo driver.

to add a bit more... if you substitute txt for the exe ( http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/83de44ww.txt ) in your url, you can seemingly get the readme file to go along with the driver pack.
    cheers.
