Reviewing the quiz

Hi all,
I'm in need of some help again.
I have created a quiz with an 80% pass mark for my learners.
This is no problem and it all works fine.
Some feedback I have received through testing is that the learners would like to know the correct answer to the questions they got wrong, ordinarily not a problem, however.....
If my learners get <80% they do the quiz again (by hiding the Continue button beneath the Retake Quiz button)
If they get >80% then they have passed the quiz and the continue button appears so they can go to the next chapter.
This is where the issue appears as the learners have stated they would like to know the answers to the questions they got wrong.
I've tried changing the quiz properties so that they have 3 chances to complete the quiz before reviewing it, but I cannot stop the review button from appearing on the first failed attempt, giving them the answers rather than forcing them to have another go as both the "Review Quiz" and the "Retake Quiz" button appear.
Is there a way of stopping the Review Quiz button from appearing until I want it to?
I look forward to your answers as my deadline is fast approaching!

I suggest you hide the Review Quiz button underneath the Retake Quiz button, not under the Continue button.
Once the user hits the Review Quiz button, they won't have the option afterwards to do a Retake Quiz until they relaunch the lesson again.
So by giving the user 3 attempts at the quiz, each time they fail, they'll only see the Retake Quiz button if it's sitting on top of the Review Quiz button. After their third failed attempt, or after their first Successful attempt (whichever comes first) they'll see the Review Quiz button.
I agree that learners should not be given the opportunity to just review the quiz, find out the answers, and then retake the quiz straight away again.  But essentially, even with the precautions mentioned above, that's pretty much what they are doing if they Review the quiz and then relaunch the lesson.
For more sophisticated options to control user attempts, you may need to use an LMS.

  • Showing bespoke feedback when user reviews the quiz

I've created a quiz with question pools and random question slides and also enabled the user to review the quiz when they've finished.  When they review, I want information to be shown about each question - not necessarily if they got it right or wrong - just some general notes about that particular question.  I'm sure I saw a video where Dr Pooja showed pictures on certain questions when the user reviewed the quiz.  Would I need to do this using advanced actions?  I'm using V6.0.1  Thanks

Are you sure Pooja was not using Drag&Drop or normal questions, not random questions? It is pretty easy for both of them. But once you are talking about question pools and random question slides: how will you define what the picture needs to be, since you don't know which slide will be selected (you can use advanced actions on the random slide).

  • Navigation when reviewing a quiz

    Hello,
I have created a quiz in Captivate 3, and enabled the review
functionality in Captivate. Upon completing the quiz, on the score
page is the the option to review the quiz. Upon pressing this, it
goes to the first question properly and displays everything
properly. My issue is not being able to go on to the next question.
The only button I am using in this quiz is the submit button. This
button does appear on the review screen, but is not active. I don't
see any means of editing only the review screens, like adding
buttons to just these slides. I have a feeling its right infront of
me, but after a couple hours of hunting and reading, I figured I'd
    throw the question out there.

    Hi,
In order to move forward in the review screens, you must have
'show skip button' selected in the quiz slide options, which will
display a skip button on each question slide.
And in the Quiz settings, select 'Allow user to review quiz'.
You cannot have a button, just on the review screens, as they
are, in effect, one of the same, with the review view simply
showing the correct answer / incorrect selection.

  • Formatting the Quiz Review Area

Is there a way to re-format the font, background, size or any
other appearance aspects in the quiz review area? I know how to
change the messages presented in this area via the Quiz Manager,
but need help with changing the font size, etc.
Speedy reply appreciated - as this is the last touch to a
    project due tomorrow. Thanks!

Hi pewinggrim and welcome to our community
Unfortunately, there is very little you can do with this.
Pretty much what you see is what you get. Aside from the text, you
    can't really control formatting.
    Sorry... Rick

  • After a quiz can you show the questions and answers for the user to review from passing the quiz

After taking a quiz, is there a way to show the questions and answers for the user to review from passing the quiz.
And the ones who has failed the quiz would be directed to the first slide again to take the quiz over.
    Thanks

I see that information about adding the review quiz button but on that last slide where it shows results, I want it jump back to slide 1 but it jumps to the first question of the slide. Is there a way around that?

  • Review Quiz Goes to the Beginnig of the Course vs. the Quiz

I have a course that contains several content slides and 10 question slides.  When the user completes the quiz and clicks the Review Quiz button, Captivate takes them back to the very first slide in the course vs. to the first question slide. How can I get Captivate to go to the first question slide?  I am using Captivate 7.

Thank you!  That was exactly what was wrong.  I had a button on the first slide and Report Answers was selected in Properties.  I copied this button to other slides so the Review Quiz functionality started at the begining and stopped on all slides where Report Answers appeared.  I used the Advanced Interaction window to identify all the Yes responses for Report Answers and made sure I deselected the check box on all content slides.  Once saved, the course worked perfectly!  The Review Quiz went to the first question slide.  Thanks again.

  • Looking for an Option to review/show the incorrect questions even if you pass the quiz? - CP4

In my quizzes our users need to get 85% to pass. If a user gets 90% I constantly asked “How do I know what question(s) I got wrong?”  Once you have a passing mark the system says you have passed/completed and moves on. It would be very helpful to give users the option of reviewing the question(s) that were answered incorrectly without reviewing the whole quiz, even if they pass.

    Hello Tom
you can find template webrfcsystemexception.html on your ITS installation under ...\<its home>\IG5\templates\system\dm\webrfcsystemexception.html
but all it does is actually to take the R/3 error messages and forward it to the user  (~rfc_error_message).
Not sure what your problem is right now, but your ITS version seems to be ITS 6.20 Patch 9, which is almost 3.5 years old. I would assume your Backend kernel is much newer. That means your protocol stack is out of sync.
You should upgrade your ITS first and see if you still receive RFC errors.

  • Using the Quiz Review functionality in Captivate 5

I’d like to have a more robust question review in the Captivate 5 quiz I have.
In previous versions of Captivate I could create a quiz, then in the quiz settings click the “Allow user to review quiz” to allow for more robust question review information.
I would then, in each question, double-click (or get properties) for each individual question review area and craft a response. Generally pointing the student to the lesson and slides they need to review in order to get the correct answer for the question.
Can you do this in Captivate 5? All I can see/access is the global review area response which affects all question review areas equally.
    Thank you,
    TPK

    Hi Lilybiri,
Thank you for your response. Here is what I meant when I referred to "loop back"....
It might be better phrased by saying that in Captivate 3 I could use the "go to slide" behavior to "jump to" the same slide I am on. This basically reloads the slide. So, if  (in Captivate 3) I am on slide 6 (which is a multiple choice question) and I am in the Advanced answer menu and I select "jump to slide" I might see:
    slide 1
    slide 2
    slide 3
    slide 4
    slide 5
    slide 6
    slide 7
    slide 8
And, if I want to, I can select the slide I am on (in this example, slide 6). From the student point of view, when they select this wrong answer, then click to advance, slide 6 reloads.
In Captivate 5, when I select Advanced answer and use "jump to slide", this is what I see:
    slide 1
    slide 2
    slide 3
    slide 4
    slide 5
    slide 7
    slide 8
There is no option to "jump to" the slide that I am on (in this case, slide 6). (It looks like in Advanced Actions I might be able to pull this trick off, but I am uncertain as to how to use the controls and haven't the time to do a lot of tests.)
You are correct about the work flow. It is difficult for me to change my work flow habits. It seems to take me longer to set the slide items and their characteristics, but I do see the potential in Captivate 5 and overall I like the stability and functionality. Adapting to the (very) different workflow while producing content for a demanding department is a challenge. I'll get used to it over time.
Thank you for your response and the linked information.

  • How to get a question in the course placed anywhere in the course and does not appear in the quiz result or total number of questions. Pretest would work except it can't go anywhere in the course (at least for me it can't)

How to get a question in the course placed anywhere in the course and does not appear in the quiz result or total number of questions. Pretest would work except it can't go anywhere in the course (at least for me it can't)

Use a normal question, and do not add the score to the total score. That will give you a correct score at the end. But the total number of questions, that system variable will still take into account all questions. You'll need a user variable, and calculate its value by subtracting 1 from the system variable cpQuizInfoTotalQuestionsPerProject. Same for the progress indicator if you want to show it?
Customized Progress Indicator - Captivate blog
If you want to allow Review, you'll have to tweak as well. You didn't specify the version, and all those questions I now mentioned.
And my approach, since you talk about only one question: create a custom question, because you'll have total control then.

  • My course is stuck in the quiz section...

I'm using captivate 8 and all the settings are set so the user can retake the quiz upon failure and review.
When I play the course, the first part allows full navigation, but when I get to the quiz it gets stuck.  I cannot move forward or back and I cannot answer the questions (grayed out).  I have removed and re-uploaded, but still does not work. Please help

Thank you for your help.  The quiz settings are the same ones I always use (normally without issue).  The required option is to answer all, I do not have branch aware checked--what does that do?  I didn't change any of the master slides, they are all simple multiple choice questions.
I set the playbar to disappear during the quiz, which might be a quick fix, as the issue started when the user used the back and forward buttons.-- still not sure why that matters (since the settings allow for retakes.
If you have any further info or clarification I'll appreciate it

  • How to retain the master slide background at the end of the quiz reporting page of a project

I have noticed that the content of the master slide is not retained till the end in the quiz results page of the project. What should I do to retain the contents till the end of the project?

    Hi,
Thanks for your time. I have checked the transitions. i didnt give any transition to the slides in the project and i also check the preferences too, i had disable the options that is to fade in and fade out. My problem is "I have 12 slides in this with an intro slide and 10 question slides and then the quiz results page. In that result page, it is showing the result at the end of the result slide the pause button in the skin turned to play button. While clicking that play button it shows only the results, review quiz button and retake quiz button only. It doesn't display the images, widgets, text and some other options which is used in master slide or in the slide itself " Why those things have disappeared? Can you guide me how to overcome this issue.
The solution for the playbar is quiet good. One more doubt in that, The play bar should be displayed in that page but it should be disabled, Is there any solution for this? If yes, kindly share with me

  • Allow learner to REVIEW the course and retain answers.

We have a module in which at the end of the course we need two options.  One for them to RETAKE the course that resets all the questions because the learner did not meet the desired.  This is currently setup and works on the Results page.  However we also want the ability to allow the learner to REVIEW the module if they passed however retain their quiz answers.  How do I accomplish this?
    Thanks

Lilybiri I have read your blog but it does not really answer what I am asking.
I will try and explain what I need to do.
On the results screen you can have 3 buttons I think:
A continue button that you can tell where to go depending if the user has passed or failed the quiz
A retake quiz which allows you to re-attempt questions if you have multiple attempts
A review quiz which allows you to check your answers.
What I ideally would like is the following:
If the user passes the quiz, first time with multi attempts, that they can review the content again but never see the questions
If the user fails the quiz they can review content and then re-attempt the questions if they have attempts left.
At the moment if a learner passes the quiz first time on multiple attempts then they can re-attempt the quiz which changes their score, this I do not want.
Not sure if this is clear enough? I do not want to use a submit all button either.
    Hopefully you can help.
    Thanks

  • Can I modify the Quiz Question default slides?

    In a quiz:
    1. Can I remove the Review Area on question slides?
    2. I seem to be able to manually remove button (such as the Clear button), but I can't copy and paste a button from one slide to another. Is there a way to do so?
    Thanks,
    Jeff

    Hi Jeff,
The Review area is not meaning a lot any more, because most of the Review information is in the check marks for correct, given and incorrect answers. It is seldom used. I would not remove it.
If you want to remove something from question slides, don't delete them but uncheck in the Options accordion of the Quiz Properties panel.
Buttons on question slides are embedded in the question slides, they do not have a separate timeline. Same for the captions like Type of Question, Question, Answers. Do not delete them or you could cause a lot of problems. For that same reason you cannot just copy/paste those embedded objects at all. If you want to change the properties, the location, size, you can use the Quiz master slides and or the object styles for quizzing objects.

  • Reset the quiz

I am trying to set up a quiz with functionality that I'm not sure is possible in Captivate (I am using 5.5).
The student takes the quiz at the end of a lesson and has three opportunities to re-take the quiz. After the third failed attempt, I take them to a slide that prompts them to review the lesson content. A button on this slide takes them back to the first slide in the lesson. Is it possible to also reset the quiz so that they can re-take it after reviewing the lesson or would they have to log out of the lesson?

Of course, most items on the score slide are available as system quizzing variables that you can insert in a Text Caption to create a custom score slide:
cpQuizInfoAttempts, cpQuizInfoPassFail, cpInfoPercentage, cpQuizInfoPointsscored, cpQuizInfoTotalProjectPoints, cpQuizInfoTotalCorrectAnswers
