Rewarding points in the forums - October 26, 2005

Some of you might notice that you are unable to reward points today, the feature has been currently disabled at the moment due to some system changes.
It will be reacatived in about 24 hours, we are sorry for the inconvience.

Hi Rajani,
As Craig has written. The point system is currently down. That is for all, not only your user ID.
As all of you know by now, we are having stability problems. I guess they come with the success of having over 250K members and a lots of users. (Even though SDN was down a couple of times we still clocked in at over 1100 posts last week.)
It is not a trivial problem and to limit the influencing factors we have decided to take our home grown point system out of the equation. Next to a host of other factors availability was improved by 5% from the day before.
We will let you know once it is back and also will give you a detailed account of what was going wrong.
Isn't it true for SDN too: You only know what you had once it is gone. (Well, actually not there for a while.)
Please be patient, Mark.

  • Minus points on the forum

I would recommend to introduce minus points in the forums.
Once a question was asked in an SCN forum and after the first response to the Question, minus points should be assigned to the questioner. When the Questioner responds or mark the answer useful/not useful/answered.. then minus points must be removed.
This way we can make the questioner also a better contributor to SCN forums.

    Hi Kishen,
Good to see similar thread here.
I'm talking about different minus rating here. Few people ask questions and leave the thread as an orphan.
I know there is limit on number of orphan threads one can create.
So it will be certainly useful to have zero points on a response (Not relavant answer) as discussed in other thread and
minus points for questioner for not resonding to thread(for not closing or not assigning atleast zero points   ).
    Thanks

  • Good Maintenance Reward points - what a hassle

Bought a protection plan in December 2010 because the sales representative said I'd get double the amount of the plan ($99.99) in rewards points if the plan went unused.  I typically don't buy these plans, but as an insurance policy and I'd get twice as much back in four years - didn't see the down side.
Didn't figure that I'd have to spend over an hour bouncing between the Geek Squad and the Rewardzone phone operators, neither of which spoke very good english, couldn't type my phone number in correctly, etc.  But I patiently kept my cool and thought heck everyone has to make a living and at least they were polite.
Well 90 minutes in, after they tried to transfer back for the second time I just surrendered and gave up.  So I googled it looking for a number.  First, I found out that the salesrep was misleading, he specifically told me I'd get $200 in rewardzone points to spend on my $99.99 investment.  Now I found out that I may only get double the number of points, so 200 points!  That isn't even $5!  Guess it goes to the 'too good to be true'.
As an Elite member you'd think they'd at least have helped me resolve the issue and not just keep tranferring me.
Anyone successfully get any points from this Good Maintenance Reward program, I kept the receipt and the warranty flyer and the plan just expired on 1/10/2015 so I'm within the window.  Just not sure its worth the hassle.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Good morning gizmo91,
Thank you for taking the time to reach out to us on the forum.
While the Good Maintenance Reward has not been offered with the purchase of a Geek Squad Protection plan since 2012, there is absolutely no reason why you should have been on the phone with us for more than an hour.  In my opinion, that is beyond excessive for something that should be fairly easy to address.  It is a matter of determining if the plan purchased was eligible for the reward and if the terms of the reward were met upon the plan expiring.
I sadly have no way of going all the way back to December 2010 to know exactly what was said or not said; however, I do know what the Good Maintenance Reward was intended for and how it worked.  A protection plan is usually purchased just in-case a product ever starts to not function properly, but there are times where a plan may never be utilized and that is when the reward would come into play.  The reward was not intended in any way to be a refund or form of reimbursement, as the plan did still provided coverage.
I am very sorry for any inconvenience you may have experienced while trying to take advantage of the Good Maintenance Reward, and from everything that I can see, the protection plan you purchased in 2010 does qualify for the reward.  That means you would receive double points based on price you paid for the plan, and to ensure that reward is processed properly, I will be sending you a private message.  You can check your private messages by logging into the forum and clicking on the little yellow envelope at the top of the page.
I hope you have a wonderful day!

  • Points within a forum

In a couple of the forums that I contribute to, I can see my points within the forum as I am lucky enough to be in the top ten (not for much longer, I suspect, unless I can get a bit more helpful!). In other forums I may have points, but they don't show on the radar. Is there a way to see my points breakdown by forum? And if not, should there be?
    AK

    1. Currently, there isn't, unless you do it the hard way by going through your profile and noting down exactly where you have gotten points. If you need an unique identifier for each post, use the number which you see just after messageID in the post's Reply, Email, or if you're a high enough level, Report this post links.
    2. Yes. Some other people have asked for features similar to this to be implemented, such as being able to view the rating on posts when scanning your My Posts pages, and they appear to be on the list of suggested improvements.

  • EP forum is the worst forum when it comes to people rewarding points

EP forum is the worst forum when it comes to people rewarding points. I wish somebody could moderate the EP forums.

    Hello Prakash,
You have company. I do not know the exact statistics, but the ABAP Programming Forum is not far behind. Of late I find a lot of newbies in there and most of them don't even return back to look at what answers they've got, forget about rewarding points. If they do return, I keep trying to coax them into doing so :-).
But there's always a trade-off between having the satisfaction of having cracked a tough problem and helping someone out and the disappointment of not getting the points for those answers which you have really spent effort trying to solve.
There's one thing that you might want to do -
    1. Since you're a seasoned user here, you will be knowing about the trend of the points. For example, there are some users who always reward points. you can have a Watch for the posts made by them and the chances are you'll get the points you deserve. You'll even strike a rapport with some of them, as I have in the ABAP Forum.
    2. There will be certain questions which you simply can't let go, because they are so ineresting. You may have never thought about a particular possibility which someone else is trying to explore. but since you do have the basics very string, you can really set off and come up with a good answer. In such cases, you may not really bother about the points - because the idea might prod you to write a whole weblog on that, which will give you the points anyways. But, such questions are rare to come by - at least from my experience with the ABAP Forum.
    3. And lastly there are a few questions (actually there are several in the ABAP Forum) which have been asked several times in the past and answered. The person asking the question is either too lazy to do a search / is very new around here. If you want to, then you can remind that user to first do a search. These questions do not add value to the content on SDN. So <i>ideally</i>, we shouldn't be expecting to get any points for them. If the user remembers to give you the points, then it's okay, otherwise, I don't think it's a good idea to insist the user to give the points (this is of course, my personal opinion).
    4. Anyways, thanks to the increasing awareness about SDN among the developer community, there are more and more people who are getting conversant with new stuff. And these users will be able to solve questions which an experienced guy might consider very trivial - the reason, this guy had also learnt that answer very recently and answering the questions reinforces the concept. And he wouldn't mind the points too much :-). Hopefully, there'll always be such users  - which will ensure that every question gets answered regardless of whether the user asking the question is the kind who rewards points or not.
Hmmm... That was a bit too long, wasn't it ? I just wanted to let you know that you're not alone :-). Let me know what you think.
    Regards,
    Anand Mandalika.

  • Some problems on the forums / Reward points

    Hi there,
I just want to mention that I actually realize two problems with the forums / reward system:
1.) For <i>some</i> threads in a category overview, in the column "Last Post" in fact the initial post date is given. Nevertheless, the threads are sorted correctly, but it is disturbing. At this moment, this can be seen in Category EP (/community [original link is broken]) for the thread "Netweaver Developer Studio - SAP Enterprise connector error".
2.) Within my "Total points" overview, I realize that I got 6 points for my answer within this thread https://www.sdn.sap.com/sdn/collaboration.sdn?node=linkFnode6-1&contenttype=url&content=https:///thread/14351 [original link is broken], but looking there, all stars are empty.
Hope it helps to determine some problem areas,
    best regards
    Detlev

    Hi Mark,
    next problem:
3.) Number of replies in the category overview does not fit. Example: Category WAS, /community [original link is broken] thread "UIElement does not have a label", replies by overview: 1, replies in fact: 2.
    Best regards
    Detlev

  • I have a new account and I want to use the reward points

    hi
I just created a new account on Toshiba and deleted the older
    the old account: (radumuresan) http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/profile.jspa?userID=538172580
    the new one: (akhenaton) http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/profile.jspa?userID=538318254
I did that because I couldn't post on a thread ( http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=22110 ) and I thought that it is a problem with my account
now I want to use my 10 reward points (which were not used with the previous account - "radumuresan"), and also, if possible, to transfer (add to the current account - "akhenaton") the 3 reward points earned; it's annoying - my new account ("akhenaton") has no "Reward Points to Assign" (from the beginning) even though I haven't used the 10 reward points in my old account :|
I, also, would like to thank moderator if he/she contacted Toshiba technicians in the problem regarding the XD-bit ( http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=19857 )
I had no chance to do this before the thread was closed (I only got to thank Toshiba Support Team as I was very anxious to run some tests on my "shiny new laptop" with the new BIOS update; later when I tried to edit my post the thread was already closed)
    thank you!
L.E.: now the 10 "Reward Points to Assign" just appeared on my account; 10x (but I still don't see the 3 earned points added too)

Hi akhenaton. I am writing a bit off topic, but there i have an opportunity to write you something, because both topics, where you adviced me, are now closed.
I was trying to write you something in the topic about the RAM modules, where you reacted and answer my question. This topic is already closed, so i am not able to add there any post. I just wanted to say you thanks :) I have also problems posting the message in topic about NVIDIA GeForce GO 7600, it wrote me the same, that it has to be approved by moderator or something like that. So i waited for some time and the post finally apeeared the next day. I don't know, when the post has to be approved by moderator and when it is posted automatically. And something about reward points, I think, that you have 10 reward points at your disposal in every topic you created, don't you? Greetings.

    From whose point of view?
<u>From the point of view of the originator of the post</u>
--> people will be encouraged to answer your questions because you told them how valuable their answers were.
<u>From the point of view of the people who answer</u>
--> It will tell them if they are on the right track or not in understanding and providing the answer for your question
--> It will give them a sense of satisfaction that they were able to help someone
--> It works as an indirect measure for their knowledge
<u>From the point of view of others searching the forum</u>
--> It will tell them that someone else had the same or similar issue and they got n number of answers and the points will tell how close each one of them are to the ultimate resolution
<u>From the point of view of SAP</u>
--> It attracts people to the forum, which generates more visbility for their products.
--> They can find patterns and may be breakthrough thinking presented in the forums that they may use in their product development
--> If more and more people share their knowledge and help each other in resolving their issues, then the cost of ownership of their products will be lower for the customers and so they will stay with SAP products.
    --> and many more
<b>Above all</b>, your points will allow me to gain one more T-shirt or Ipod or some of the cool things that SAP is giving top contributors.... so why not!!!..} Right? Wrong, it is the recognition and acceptance that you gain from others that inspires you to learn more and contribute more...

  • Rewards Points feature in KM (like SDN forums)

    Hi,
    Is there actually any kind of  "r e w a r d  -  p o i n t s"  feature, available in Collaboration Forums?
    thanks in advance,
    PD: I am in 2004s EP 7.0 SP15

    Hi Leandro,
the new forums functionality allows the users to mark answers as useful. You can configure in the Forums Admin Console under Expert Feature how many answers can be marked as helpful, but unfortunately you can no distinguish between helpful and very helpful. Furthermore the Point & Rewards System component is completely missing, so you need to develop here something yourself in order to get the point statistics from the database. There is already an existing report "Users with Questions and Rewards" that you can find in the Admin Console under Reports, but I'm afraid this report alone might not be detailed enough.
    Hope this helps,
    Robert

I pre-ordered an iPhone 6 Plus and the delivery date now says October 14th. The point of the pre-order is to get it on release day (or shortly thereafter). Can I go to a Verizon store to pick up my new phone on release day?

I'm not sure that answers the question Candice.
I'm in the same situation.  I was up trying to get on the Verizon page at 11:55, kept getting the ECPD error.  When finally got through, the Silver Iphone Plus 64 showed arrival of 9-19.  At every step of the process, it seemed that I was ordering a phone that would arrive on day1.  At no point did it say this was an estimate.  At no point did it say it might change.  In a big yellow box, it said "9-19".  Ordered it, then got confirmation email stating it should arrive at 9-19.   Seems like all should be good, right?  Order site said 9-19, I've got a confirmation email saying 9-19, done and done.
Then I check the website, and suddenly it changed to 10-14?!?!?!?  I feel like this was a bait and switch.  I was able to pickup an iphone5 in a local store on launch day, and would not have locked myself into a preorder through Verizon if I had known this would happen!
So, that leads back to the original questions.  Lets assume I walk into a Verizon store on 9-19, and there is an available iphone6 plus just sitting there, can I either get that phone as fulfillment of my pre-order.  Or, cancel my pre-order and buy that phone right then and there?
    JJK
PS:  It seems there are many people you misled this way.  For every person who takes the time to post on this site, there are going to be many many more who are silently ****** off.

Elsewhere in the forum a complete reinstall is suggested; however, I can't do that because of my company's IT policies. Is there any way to solve this problem WITHOUT a complete reinstall? Thank you!

If you can't reinstall Firefox yourself then you need to contact your IT department and ask them to check the Firefox installation.
It is possible that some files got broken with the latest update.

  • WHAT IS THE POINT OF THIS FORUM?

What is the point of this forum when over half the questions go unanswered?
In fact, what is the point of creating and selling a product that so many people can't even install without an expert looking over their shoulder?
This really sucks! I am really sorry that I elected a major in Oracle Development.

    Erin,
There are reasons for doing controlled releases, and your implementation experience with prior upgrades is one of them.
Doing an upgrade requires the management of the underlying repository, the underlying repository has changed significantly from 309 to 902 owing to the introduction of OID and other significant changes to the architecture.
Running a controlled release allows Oracle to ensure that the final upgrade scripts when made publicly available are as solid and bug-free as possible whilst allowing those customers who wish to upgrade sooner rather than later and take part in the feedback process can do so with the knowledge that Oracle can help them should they come across any issues.
We currently have over 150 customers running the upgrade scripts and providing feedback, so much so that we are hoping to release them publicly in the very near future.
On another note, I should point out that in your post you are referring to DB upgrade versions and not Application Server upgrade versions..
