Rhythmbox segment fault...fixed
I installed Rhythmbox and all the gstreamer codecs. When I run rhythmbox it crashes. This is the terminal output:

[1]+ Stopped rhythmbox
It would also crash to a segment fault.
I figured out that to fix it the "fm radio" plugin had to be turned off. (just in case anyone ran into this error)
This is usually a crash in one of the native parts of an API (likely) or the JVM itself (which is not likely). This usually means there is a bug in that binary, or your hardware drivers are bugged. It could be anything really. Could you post the complete error you are getting?

HT1338 Macbook pro mac os 10.6.8 software update segment fault
I recently tried to update a few software on my macbook pro, but apparently software update crashed while it ran in the process.
So I cannot update any softwares since it won't work at all. I even tried to run softwareupdate on command line and it gave me
"segement fault". Any idea how to fix this problem?

SQL Server Driver for Linux causes Segmentation Fault
Hello,
I'm using the SQL Server Driver 11.0.1790 on Linux with mod_perl and Apache. While running fine with all my CLI Perl apps I occasionally get Segmentation Faults when using it from within mod_perl applications. Sometimes every other connect to the database
segfaults. I've created a core dump and did a stack backtrace:
Loaded symbols for /usr/lib/../lib64/libxml2.so.2
Core was generated by `/usr/sbin/httpd2 -X'.
Program terminated with signal 11, Segmentation fault.

Can onebody help fixing this issue?
Best regards,
StephanHi Stephan,
This is a bug in the unixODBC Driver Manager 2.3.0. Essentially, you can only have one HDBC per HENV. The mod_perl must be creating the connections upon the same HENV.
The bug appears to be fixed in version 2.3.1 but we have not yet certified that out driver can work with 2.3.1. See the 2.3.1 release notes at
http://www.unixodbc.org/ where the last item says:
"Driver version was not being held when a second connection was made to the driver"
The Driver Manager would "forget" that we are an ODBC V3 driver and try intereacting with us as an ODBC V2 driver for the second connection (which fails).
The workaround is to create a new HENV for each connection but I'm not sure if this is possible in mod_perl. -
Adobe Reader 9.3 for Linux: Segmentation Fault in PPKLite.api
Adobe Reader 9.3 cannot open signed pdf files on our system (64-bit Fedora 10 Linux, with 32-bit compatibility libraries installed). It crashes with a segmentation fault any time one tries to open the following file:
http://www.utoronto.ca/ic/software/forms/matlab_concurrent_renewal2010.pdf
Running with ACRODEBUG=1 and ACRO_CRASHLOG=1 results in a zero-length crash log file and the only debug messages shown are
Loading PlugIn /opt/Adobe/Reader9/Reader/intellinux/plug_ins/Annots.api ... [dlopen success for Annots.api, handle = 0xc4548f8]
Loading PlugIn /opt/Adobe/Reader9/Reader/intellinux/plug_ins/AcroForm.api ... [dlopen success for AcroForm.api, handle = 0xd0c3a50]
Loading PlugIn /opt/Adobe/Reader9/Reader/intellinux/plug_ins/DigSig.api ... [dlopen success for DigSig.api, handle = 0xd0dcc68]
Loading PlugIn /opt/Adobe/Reader9/Reader/intellinux/plug_ins/EScript.api ... [dlopen success for EScript.api, handle = 0xd126ac8]
Loading PlugIn /opt/Adobe/Reader9/Reader/intellinux/plug_ins/PPKLite.api ... [dlopen success for PPKLite.api, handle = 0xd7b1ff0]
If I run the gdb debugger on /opt/Adobe/Reader9/Reader/intellinux/bin/acroread, it shows the segmentation fault occurring inside /opt/Adobe/Reader9/Reader/intellinux/plug_ins/PPKLite.api (but since the file is stripped, all it shows is the binary offset of the segfault). I do have a coredump, though.
If I remove the PPKLite.api file (or rename it to PPKLite.api.hide -- note that chmod -x does not work, nor does renaming it to something else that still ends in .api, unlike some workarounds I've seen on the web for similar problems in earlier versions of Adobe Reader), then Adobe Reader can open the file without crashing, except that without PPKLite it cannot validate its signature and so it displays the message "This document enabled extended features in Adobe Reader. The document has been changed since it was created and use of extended features is no longer available. Please contact the author for the original version of this document" -- which I assume is because the signature validation failed due to the absence of PPKLite so it things the document has been altered even though it hasn't been.
So this removing or renaming of PPKLite.api works around the problem of the crash, at the expense of getting this misleading warning message.
However, obviously there is a problem inside PPKLite.api that needs to be fixed....I'm seeing what must be the same issue: acroread foo.pdf exits almost instantly without any message, but with status 1.
This is: AdobeReader_enu-9.3.1-1.i486 on a Fedora 12 box, AMD Phenom II 945.
If I set ACRODEBUG=1 and ACRO_CRASHLOG=1 and ulimit -c unlimited, and rename PPKLite.api, *then* I get a nonzero crashlog. Which is:

"Segmentation fault" during tns rman active duplicate
Hello. I am trying to do an active duplicate using tns connectivity and just after restoring the controlfile the process fails with the error "Segmentation fault". However if I start the rman using Ezconnect everything goes smoothly. Restarting the databases did not help. What could be the reason? Here is the output with the error:

Segmentation Fault on Solaris JVM
Hi,
We have a Java application that executes all 'C' code through JNI code.
It works fine on NT but on solaris, the JVM suddenly crashes with a
segmentation fault. The crashes are random. We did a lot of debugging to ensure that the JVM doesn't crash when we are in the 'C' code.
We are using jdk1.4.0-b92. Any ideas?
Here's the stack trace from gdb:

In Solaris, when I use java JFileChooser to select a file, the file path usually including a lot of "../" which causes a path over 200 char long. When I assigned that path to a char array variable which only have 200 char length, the segmentation fault happened. -
Hello,
I have been experimenting with snapshot isolation with Berkeley DB, but I find that it frequently triggers a segmentation fault when write transactions are in progress. The following test program reliably demonstrates the problem in Linux using either 5.1.29 or 6.1.19.
https://anl.app.box.com/s/3qq2yiij2676cg3vkgik
Compilation instructions are at the top of the file. The test program creates a temporary directory in /tmp, opens a new environment with the DB_MULTIVERSION flag, and spawns 8 threads. Each thread performs 100 transactional put operations using DB_TXN_SNAPSHOT. The stack trace when the program crashes generally looks like this:
Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.

I understand that this test program, with 8 concurrent (and deliberately conflicting) writers, is not an ideal use case for snapshot isolation, but this can be triggered in other scenarios as well.
You can disable snapshot isolation by toggling the value of the USE_SNAP #define near the top of the source, and the test program then runs fine without it.
Can someone help me to identify the problem?
many thanks,
-PhilHi Phil,
We have taken a look at this in more detail and there was a bug in the code. We have fixed the bug. We will roll it into our next 6.1 release that we do. If you would like an early patch that will go on top of 6.1.19, please email me at [email protected], reference this forum post and I can get a patch sent out to you. It will be a .diff file that apply on the source code and then rebuild the library. Once again thanks for finding the issue, and providing a great test program which tremendously helped in getting this resolved.
thanks

Segmentation fault when enabling replication with SQL API
Hi,
I've compiled BDB 5.3.21 on Ubuntu 11.04 (x86) with the following configure options:
../dist/configure enable-sql enable-sql_compat enable-debug enable-tcl --with-tcl=/usr/lib
I was able to follow the Replication Usage Examples given in "Getting Started with the SQL APIs" to set up a set of replicated master/client databases.
However, after I exited out of the dbsql session that started replication on the master database and re-opened the master database with dbsql, executing "pragma replication_initial_master=ON;" followed by "pragma replication=ON;" led to a segmentation fault. gdb showed that the segmentation fault occurred at:
dbsql> pragma replication=ON;
Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.

Edited by: snowcrash on Jan 15, 2013 2:16 PMThank you for reporting this. I have been able to reproduce this crash in-house.
You need to specify the replication_initial_master and replication pragmas as part of initially creating your SQL database. The replication_initial_master pragma is not used or needed after the initial database creation at the initial master site. The replication=on pragma is a persistent setting that we remember internally the first time you specify it. This means that after specifying replication=on for the first time on a site, we will automatically restart replication for you in future dbsql sessions when we open the underlying Berkeley DB environment.
This gives you a very simple workaround: don't respecify replication=on when you reenter dbsql.
Of course, we shouldn't be crashing on an unnecessary pragma. I have added this to our list of fixes to consider for the future.
Thanks,
Paula Bingham

Hello,
I just wanted to have a look at the newest linux action show but when clicking on the newest episode "Linux Games" firefox crashes with just the message
segmentation fault
in the console output. I have tried a "vanilla" firefox (renaming ~/.mozilla) but same result.
Any ideas?
Greetings
matse
Last edited by matse (2012-03-28 14:48:48)That was it! Uninstalled flash and the site loads fine.
It's strange that flash works on youtube but this site crashes firefox.
So I guess I have to downgrade flash, wait for a fix or just watch the episode directly on youtube?

Hi All
After a system crash I'm trying to restore. I first did a application reset-config ise and then a restore over an ftp repository.
After 80% it fails with at DB Syncup with a segmentation fault. Tried this with different Backup versions all having the latest patch level.
Any Ideas ?

Cisco Identity Services Engine Patch
Version : 1
Install Date : Mon Jan 26 10:21:50 2015After sending the appropriate logs to the TAC I learned that even though the restore looked to have failed, at 80% the actual restore has been completed and what was failing was the node synchronization. With this knowledge I was able to access the admin GUI and manually sync up the other nodes and have been running without issue.
As it turns out this is documented issue, CSCur36983, and will be fixed in release 1.4.
Here is the reply I received from the TAC:
"Based on the logs sent, we're definitely hitting CSCur36983 which will be
fixed in ISE 1.4:
https://tools.cisco.com/bugsearch/bug/CSCur36983/
According to the bug details, when we reach 80% the restoration part itself
has already completed. What is failing is a sync with the rest of the nodes
in the deployment. Therefore, you can reload the ISE at this point and you
should have access to the admin GUI again. From there, you can force a sync up with the other nodes." -
[RESOLVED] vlc/mplayer Segmentation fault
I was using an NVIDIA 7900GT which has since broke and now I have reverted to my NVIDIA 7300GS.
I have been using archlinux for many years. When I received the upgrade from the nvidia-100.14.19-6-i686 package, X would not load. I looked around for a PKGBUILD and rebuilt the nvidia and nvidia-utils packages (ver 100.14.19). Everything worked great, but I had no idea why. I thought that it was just a nvidia thing that was not compatible with my machine/card. Over the course of time, I found package nvidia-100.14.23-1-i686, and that worked for me and became my default video driver package to rebuild for every new kernel upgrade. I was trying the other nvidia updates that archlinux provided also, but X would still not load.
So then package nvidia-173.14.05-4-i686 came out and I was not going to let it lick me anymore. I was going to figure this out. I made sure that there was no "XF86Config" or "xorg.conf" in "/etc/X11", and X loaded. Success right? Well kinda. I was able to login to Gnome, but I had no compiz, and I could not open vlc, mplayer and several other media applications. The main error I was getting when running the application from and terminal was "Segmentation Fault". In dmesg, I would get:
vlc[3746]: segfault at b5dba360 ip b4f8e45a sp bfe5cd4c error 7 in libnvidia-tls.so.100.14.23[b4f8e000+1000]

I was totally pissed for several days because I had to use Metacity, and found that totem was able to play media (audio and video) fine. So I gave in again, and let that setup ride for a week. Well then today came around, and I was going to get this fix one way or another and get Compiz and my media apps working again. I did a search in the terminal for "libnvidia-tls.so.100.14.23" and found it still living in "/usr/lib/tls/". All that was in that directory was that file and a symlink to it. "libnvidia-tls.so.173.14.05" was in "/usr/lib/", but I guess just not being used or seen. I did a "# rm /usr/lib/tls" and reinstalled the nvidia and nvidia-utils packages (ver 173.14.05) to be safe.
Compiz and my media apps are now running fine. I have written all of this down just in case anyone else runs into this problem. I have done tons of google searching and could not find any answer to this. If you have any comments about this, please let me know.I was using an NVIDIA 7900GT which has since broke and now I have reverted to my NVIDIA 7300GS.

Freemedforms segmentation fault
I'm very interested in the QT application FreeMedForms. However, I have compiled the package from AUR several times (for versions 0.7.0, 0.7.3 and 0.7.4) and always get this error:
"Main" "Command line: freemedforms"
"Main" "Running release version"
"Main" "Linux Integrated"
"Main" "looking for libraries in path: /usr/lib/freemedforms;/usr/lib/qt/plugins;/usr/bin;/usr/lib/kde4/plugins"
"Settings" "Trying ini file /home/martin/.freemedforms/config.ini"
"Settings" "Using ini file /home/martin/.freemedforms/config.ini"
"Settings" "Using network ini file /home/martin/.freemedforms/config-net.ini"
"** ERROR(databaseconnector.cpp:229)" "DatabaseConnector" "Decrypt error"
"ThemePrivate" "Setting theme path to: /usr/share/freemedforms"
Segmentation fault
Some details of my system:
x86_64
KDE 4.8.3
kernel 3.4.0-1-ck
Nvidia 9600M with proprietary drive (nvidia-ck-corex 295.53-2)
I would really appreciate some help with this.
Last edited by MartinZ (2012-06-13 02:10:31)One thing to note is the last line before the segfault: do you have a /usr/share/freemedforms/ directory? I downloaded the source and ran qmake (following the PKGBUILD) and I can't find anything in the makefiles or installation that would create that directory - yet one of the source files has that path hard-coded in. This could be the problem.
FYI: grep found this as the only reference to that path anywhere in the package source. This is referenced from one line of the source code, but never created in the installation. If this turns. Unless freemedforms expects to be run as root, there is no way this path could be created at runtime, and this would likely lead to a segfault - though it may not be the only problem.
plugins/coreplugin/settings.cpp: setPath(BundleResourcesPath, QString("/usr/share/freemedforms"));
If this is a likely cause of the problem (ie, if you don't have a /usr/share/freemedforms directory) then I'd suggest finguring out where the themes really are and either A: modify that line of the source code to point to the proper location, or B: create that directory and move the themes there [or C: (personally unpreferred) create the missing path as a symlink to where the themes actually are.]
If you did not get any themes with the installation, you may have to track them down and download them manually. Alternately, you could try just creating that missing directory and leave it empty. You may get oddities from the app not having any theme, but this may at least stop it from seg faulting.
EDIT:
Oops: grep of course only searched for that path verbatim in the installation files. Perhaps that directory was created as a $prefix/share/freemedforms or some such.
EDIT:
I found MANY references to paths like
freemedforms/freemedforms-src/Makefile: -$(DEL_FILE) -r $(INSTALL_ROOT)/usr//share/freemedforms/package_helpers/freetoolbox.iss
Changing the PKGBUILD cmake install root line to
"INSTALL_ROOT_PATH=$pkgdir/usr" \
(ie, remove the trailing slash of the path) fixes that problem. However, I doubt this would cause the problem.
Copying a file to some/long//path/ should have the same affect as copying to some/long/path/ even though the former is ugly.

Segmentation fault: 11 After updating to Yosemite
com.apple.xpc.launchd[1]: (com.apple.FolderActions.enabled[31433]) Service exited due to signal: Segmentation fault: 11
Hi there.
I keep getting these messages in my console log. Thousands of them. I'm just after updating Mountain lion to Yosemite and find the applications are
very sluggish and wonder if this is the culprit.
I have tried tired a few solutions thinking the problem might be from a past user uid being looked for but i followed this post to fix that
https://discussions.apple.com/message/26899095#26899095
I repaired Disk Utility permissions, restarted in Safe mode (same problem) and single user mode which stopped the logs from continuously updating (i just have to press the reload button). I used Onyx to clear out the cash files. Basically I am at a loss as to what xpc is trying to launch
bar a clean install have you guys any advice?
Bit of a newbie here so if there are extra detail I can add please ask.Curious as to how you arrived at that conclusion from the report. I'm seeing a similar issue. Here's the console message I was getting:
2/19/15 5:36:30.596 PM com.apple.xpc.launchd[1]: (com.apple.FolderActions.enabled[74049]) Service exited due to signal: Segmentation fault: 11
After disabling folder actions as OP did, I get these:
2/19/15 5:41:56.264 PM Finder[342]: assertion failed: 14C109: libxpc.dylib + 40320 [876216DC-D5D3-381E-8AF9-49AE464E5107]: 0x13

Ssh has stopped working - reverse mapping causes segmentation fault
This was working on Friday, believe me. I haven't done anything that I'm aware of (apart from reboot the machine) to change things, except in trying to fix it.
Briefly, ssh crashes out with a segmentation fault and a crash log (below). Poking around with verbosity gives (real ip obscured):
% ssh ip4 -vvvv

debug3: Trying to reverse map address ip4.
Segmentation fault
I get similar reports for %ssh FQDN and %ssh $USER@[FQDN*|*ip4].
Although I'm trying to ssh to a machine on another continent, trying to ssh into my own machine (from a Terminal window on my own machine) also does not work. Setting UseDNS no in /etc/sshd_config on my machine does not help. Oddly, trying to ssh to my own machine by
%ssh 127.0.0.1 gives
debug1: Enabling compatibility mode for protocol 2.0
debug1: Local version string SSH-2.0-OpenSSH_3.8.1p1
debug3: Trying to reverse map address 127.0.0.1.

and then works (after a lot more info).
I can ssh into this machine from elsewhere, I just can't ssh out. Below the crash log is a report from running a server with
% sudo sshd -D -ddd -e -p 10000
and connecting with
