RoboHelp 7 Hangs

I've run into a bit of a snag and hope someone's seen
something similar and might have a suggestion or two.
Until very recently (yesterday), RoboHelp was creating
projects and importing by reference from existing FM8 files
correctly and successfully. Yesterday, after creating a new
project, my attempt at importing by reference caused RH to hang
indefinately.
I've attempted repairs, reinstalls, uninstalls/reinstalls.
Nothing seems to affect it. Any new projects, attempts to open file
dialog boxes, or import data creates a RH hang. I can, however,
create new projects.
We're to the point of re-imaging the machine in attempts to
fix it, but I thought I'd try here for suggestions before we get
too drastic.
Let me know if you'd like more info. I'll see what I can
uncover. :)
Thanks for the assist!

If it is a bug, Adobe would need the file to find the cause
so I am not sure what else can be done here.
Plenty of people have sent me files and you may have seen
that if I have to send them to Adobe, I still seek permission
first.
If I did breach any confidentiality, Adobe would probably
remove my Community Expert status. Why would I want that to happen?
Without being able to work one of the files, there is not
much I can do. Ceate a new project and import one of these topics.
Remove half the content and see if the problem persists. If it
does, remove the rest. If the problem persists even then, I think
the confidentiality thing has gone so you could send me that.
If removing some of the content does fix it, you know where
to look.
My interest is only in helping you. If your management won't
accept that, there's little I or Adobe can do.

  • Robohelp hangs when I try to add baggage files to projects

I have two RoboHelp projects using source control (Visual Studio/Team Foundation Server) in Robohelp HTML version 8. Both service packs are installed.
When I right click the Baggage Files folder and select 'Add to baggage files' the program hangs, and I have to crash out of it. This started happening in both projects at the same time, possibly as a result of me adding image files to the baggage files folder. I've reverted to the project as it was before I made these changes, but the problem persists.
I've started a new test project, not connected to version control, and Robohelp hangs in exactly the same way when I try to
Is there anything you could recommend? I'd be extremely grateful for any ideas. I searched the forum and couldn't find any references to anything like this issue.
Would you recommend resintalling Robohelp, for instance?
    Many thanks.

    Hi Rick,
    Thanks for yor speedy reply.
It's a good thought, but I've verified that the rhbag.apj file isn't set to read only. In fact, I tried editing it after the problem started in an attempt to add baggae files manually. That didn't work (I was able to trick Robohelp but not the server...).
Do you have any other suggestions?
    Cheers,
    Chris

  • Robohelp hangs when converting an FM Inset

    Hi,
I'm using TCS4. I linked an FM book in Robohelp. Everytime Robohelp converts an FM Inset, it hangs. For some reason, the Adobe Distiller decodes the Inset as an image (divided in pages, sized according to the anchored frame in the Inset.) The Inset has conditional text as well.
    Can you help?
    Thanks!
    Kai

Good to know that the patch did something for your situation.
Regarding your graphics - I can't offer too much guidance since I don't really work with them much in my FM to RH project, but I seem to recall some early TCS webinar where RJ Jacquez talked about sticking a graphic and a bunch of captions and callouts all inside a single anchored frame to get them to come over. It wouldn't work if they were all separate - they had to be grouped together and captured inside a single anchored frame.
Again, if you can whip up a simple example that illustrates the failure, report it to Adobe and send it to them - they like to work on examples that are broken to analyze them.

  • RoboHelp hanging

I use Tortoise SVN as a repository for my changes in
RoboHelp. I recently had some problems with RH files being in
conflict or out of date in SVN. We fixed those problems by updating
the SVN folders, and now my file in RoboHelp just hangs. It opens
but I never get an active arrow to click with; it stays on
hourglass and I can't do anything. There are moments when it
flashes between the arrow and the hourglass and I can click, but
even then everything is very slow. Also, all of the topics suddenly
have red graphic boxes at the top and bottom of each page. I have
    no idea what those are.

Create a new folder on your hard drive, and then do an update
from your project source folder in SVN to that new folder. Open
that copy of the project in RH and see what you get.
I'm assuming with all of this that you commit both your
source files and your output files into SVN. If that is the case,
verify before updating that you're pointing at the source files in
SVN and not the output files.
I would ask if you made a backup of your project before you
deleted the .cpd, but the source files in SVN should work as a
    backup.

  • RoboHelp hangs at startup and using robosource control

    Hi everybody,
I am relatively new to this forum. I have been using RH X5.02
    now for a few months.
    |'m quite pleased with it until now and find all postings
    here very useful.
So I was content until last monday when I returned from a
    holiday of 10 days.
Normally I start RH by clicking a link to RoboHTML.exe from
    my desktop.
Instead of asking me which of my projects to open I got
    ZILCH.
RH just hangs, the only way to stop is to use task manager to
    end the process.
The same happens when I want to add a project to version
    control.
the icons of my 'Most recently used file list' (Tools -
Options - General) contain a big red question mark.
I can't remember seeing that before.
Based on previous postings I unchecked 'Save without prompt'.
    This didn't change anything.
I did experiment installing PushOK CVS SCC NT interface (v
2.1.1.2) to be able to use the Turtoise CVS version control system
    which seemed to work OK.
I didn't decide to use the PushOK and Turtoise system yet,
but kept on using RoboSource control. I didn't uninstall the PushOK
interface as I wanted to do an extra test on our central Turtoise
    CVS system later.
I had to renew the trial license for PushOK's software when I
came back. This came up when I started RoboHTML the first time
    after my holiday.
As I suspected that this extra interface could have something
to do with my problems I uninstalled and reinstalled all software,
without reinstalling the PushOK software. I did take the projects
out of version control before I uninstalled everything.
I expected to have no problems after all this, but to my
    surprise it didn't change anything.
I suspect it has to be something in the registry and/or the
    project files themselves.
I am working on several RH HTML-projects at the 'same time',
switching from one into another. All projects are (or were) in
    RoboSource control.
I'm working on a Dell laptop using Windows XP Professional
which is automatically updated to latest versions. Yes, all files
are installed locally on the laptop, including the files in
    RoboSource Control.
We use NOD 32 virus scanning software.
Can anybody shine some light on this
    situation?
    tks, Paul

    Hi Peter,
I'm sorry, I left out an important piece of info: when I
start RH from the file manager by clicking a RH project it will
    start.
I also made a shortcut in whit a project-file to open: no
    problem starting.
So I can work and I can open a new project with no problems.
Problem starts as soon as I try to add the project to Version
    Control.
I checked all processes and services on my computer. Made
sure all PushOK and CVS software was not installed.
RoboSourceControl was not able to see alternative SCC drivers
    to use anymore.
    The problems stay.
I can work, if I avoid version control. So I uninstalled
    RoboSourceControl too.
Menu's in RH are adjusted and of course I don't have the
    hangup problem either
I still can't just start the RH exec without specifying a
starting project. It will just freeze.
If you or anybody else have other suggestions I would be
really gratefull, because I want to use the version control.
    tks

  • Robohelp Word quits generating HTML Help after 2 MB of images

Hi, I'm trying to evaluate RoboHelp for Word 8 for my company. I'm using the trial version of RoboHelp 8 for Word. In the process of building the contents for the hep files in the Word document I insert images via the Insert -> Picture -> From File menu in Word. After I've inserted about 2 mb of images RoboHelp hangs when I run RoboHelps File -> Generate Primary Layout, for MS HtmlHelp, from the menu. The Output compiler just basically hangs with the following:
    Starting compilation...
    Clearing output folder...
    Starting compilation...
I found the image at the border of the size limit and delete it and am able to generate the output. I can also replace it with a much smaller image and can generate the output.
This seems awfully strange to me, 2MB is nothing. We're using mostly JPG image and two small GIFs. Could this be just a problem with the trial version of RoboHelp 8 or maybe RoboHelp wants images inserted into Word in a different way?
Thanks, I appreciate any information you can provide me.

Thanks Peter, I just tried RoboHelp HTML, you're right it works great linking to the word file! The CHM didn't come out as a standard Help file, everyting came out in a flat file instead of the different books, TOC and subtopics.
We're just using Word 2003. I figured out how to do it in Robohelp Word. You save the images as BMPs using Image Workshop. Then in the topics you use the Word Menu: Edit  -> Paste Help Image and that shows up as a tag in the Word topic.
Thanks, I think I'll just go with the second way and get it done so I can get on with other things.

  • RoboHelp 10: Problems generating Printed Documentation

    Environment
Windows 7 Enterprise, Service Pack 1, 64-bit operating system
    Office Professional Plus 2010 Versions 14.0.7106.5001 (64-bit)
    RoboHelp 10: 10.0.0.287
Visual Studio 2010 Professional. I open RoboHelp from within Source Control (have been doing it for two years).
    Problem
Sometime after moving to RoboHelp 10, and even after successfully generating Printed Documentation output, I encountered a major problem generating Printed Documentation from RoboHelp: “Internal error encountered. Failed to generated Printed Documentation”. The error occurred when I tried to generate Printed Doc using my default TOC, which looks something like this:
    Topic A
    Topic B
    Book 1
    Book 2
    Book 3
    Topic C
    Topic D
Based on an old Peter Grainge reply to someone about a similar problem, I removed all but the first topic from the Chapter Layout pane and generated the Help. Everything was fine until I got to the topics after Book 3. At that point everything started to fail again. When I removed Topics C, D, etc. from the Chapter Layout pane, the output was built successfully.
I tried moving Topics C, D, etc. to the top of the Chapter Layout pane, and got the same error. I tried creating a new folder and put Topics C, D, etc. into that folder. Failure after failure.
As an experiment, I removed all the Topics C, D, etc from the Chapter Layout pane, but then added them to the Print Document Section Layout pane (not where I want them). The Printed Documentation built successfully.
During attempts to build with Topics C, D, etc. in the Chapter Layout pane, I kept getting a Word error: Word is trying to recover your information. After that there was always a failure.
Selecting PDF as the output did not work when the Topic C, D, etc. files were at the bottom of the Chapter Layout pane.
I create a new TOC and a new Printed Documentation SSL. Failed to generate.
As a matter of reference, I've been generating Printed Documentation from the same TOC for more than a year and so cannot figure out what has changed in RoboHelp or Word to cause this grief .
Has anyone experienced anything like this?
    Carol

    Dear Peter,
Thanks for following up. Last Friday I finished extensive testing on my own and working with RoboHelp Support. Here's what I sent to Support this morning.
If after reading this screed, you think it worthwhile for me to get a copy from Source Control for you to look at, I will do so. Thanks for offering to look at it.
    Environment
Windows 7 Enterprise Service Pack 1, 8.00 GB RAM, 64-bit OS
Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010 Version 14.0.7106.5003 64-bit--Note: We repaired my current version of Word, in case that was the problem, but did not reinstall Office--we do not think that the Word version is the problem because we generated successfully with other TOCs and when generating individual documents.
RoboHelp 10.0.1.292. Upgraded from RoboHelp 9 in May 2013. Replaced hard drive in September 2013 and reinstalled RoboHelp.
Visual Studio 2010 Professional 10.0.40219.1 SP1Rel (I open the project from Source Control and check files out to a folder on my desktop.)
    Issue
Printed Documentation failed multiple times with the default Table of Contents, which contains all the topics in the project. TOC specs are as follows:
Properties: .docx, desktop location, no conditions, embedded images, “Generate a single document”, “Retain hyperlinks”.
    330 files, 12 top-level books, 15 second-level books, 7 third-level books, 6 fourth-level books, and 8 fifth-level books
    Results
Generation to Printed Documentation does NOT fail for other, module-specific TOCs, nor to WebHelp Pro SSLs for the same sets of topics. In addition, and perhaps more important, generation to Printed Documentation does NOT fail with “Generate Individual Documents” selected, or when there are approximately fewer than 259 files in the TOC.
Did not fail consistently based on any particular topic.
Did not fail consistently based on location of any particular topic in the TOC.
Failed when I created new TOCs based on ‘working’ TOCs. For example, copied a module-specific TOC and then added topics to it from the default (superset) TOC. I did this in case the original default TOC was corrupted.
Failed when I create a new TOC with the same folder/file structure from scratch.
Failed when I created a new TOC with a flat file structure from scratch.
Failed when I retrieved an older TOC from the last release of the product.
Failed when I created new SSLs each time. I did this in case the SSLs had got corrupted.
Failed when I did not open the project from Source Control (removed project from Source Control and worked locally).
Began to see failure when there were more than about 258-263 files in the TOC. For example, successfully generated Printed Documentation with 262 files in the TOC. Added one topic and the generation failed. Removed that topic and added several others, one at a time. Consistently failed. To test this, I created a TOC with all the files in a flat structure, generated a report for the TOC, printed it, and counted the number of files. I then began deleting files and regenerating the Printed Document to try to identify the number of files in the TOC when the generation failed. Successfully generated up to about 258 files and then it began failing. (Occasional successes at 260 and 261, but that may be because I didn’t always consistently remove the Glossary and Index from the Chapter Layout pane.)
    Other Comments
(I know that we should generally post non-RH issues to other forums, but in this case I wanted to include all potentially related issues in this posting.)
The first time you generate any type of output, the “Critical error of Source Control Provider. Please restart IDE.” Message appears. This message appears behind RoboHelp. As a result, if the RoboHelp window is maximized, you think that RoboHelp is hung. Forcing a close of RoboHelp leaves the partially generated Word document in an unstable state. When you re-open RoboHelp and try to generate the output again, RoboHelp says that the output is in use. Unfortunately, there is no way to ‘free’ the Word document and you have to restart the computer. In addition, when the dialog box is hidden, even using Alt+Tab to find the dialog box is complicated because you can’t grab it and click OK until RoboHelp completes its processing. The workaround is to reduce the size of the application window so that you can see the dialog box and try to quickly grab it and click OK. That said, as soon as processing is complete you can grab the dialog box and click OK; at that point RoboHelp displays its own error message about the success or failure of the output generation. It is not clear whether the RoboHelp API or Source Control puts up this error message, but it’s definitely a problem until you happen upon the workaround.
RoboHelp does not check SSLs even when I right-click the SSL in the Single Source Layouts pane, click Check In, select the XML and SSL files, and leave “Keep checked out” deselected. The red check mark remains next to the SSL name. In addition, even when I Check In All files before closing the project, the next time I open the project RoboHelp displays a series of Check In dialog boxes requiring me to check them in again.
When RoboHelp hangs during a Printed Documentation failure and the Version Control setting is to check in all files when closing a project (which I’ve now deselected to avoid this problem), Ctrl+Alt+Del indicates that you cannot shut down the program because RoboHelp is waiting for a response. Yes, RoboHelp was waiting for me to check in some files (because of the Version Control setting), but hid the Check In Source Files dialog box behind the application. This usually left a Word document in limbo, forcing me to restart the computer.
At one point RoboHelp stopped saving changes to an SSL after I made changes and clicked Save and Generate. Each time I reopened the SSL, I had to select .docx, etc. all over again.

  • RoboHelp 8 crashes on project close after modifying htt files outside RoboHelp

Recently I have made some changes to the .htt (master page/template) files that are used with our RoboHelp projects. It was easier to make those changes outside of RoboHelp, so I made them in a simple text editor program, making sure that RoboHelp was not open at the time. I did this for multiple projects.
Since then, RoboHelp hangs up every time you close any of these help projects or if you attempt to close RoboHelp itself with the projects open.
    Things to know:
-I am using 8.0.2, so it has the latest updates.
    -I am using Windows 7, 32-bit.
-I can find no code errors in the htt files themselves. (I had RoboHelp problems in one project a long time ago when I accidentally omitted a "?" in the RoboHelp header tag. Nothing like that is going on here.)
-I have tried renaming the CPD so that RoboHelp creates a new one. This does not solve the problem.
-I have tried opening the master page file in RoboHelp and then closing it. RoboHelp opens the file with no problems and does not seem to make any changes.
I have searched the forums and have found many references to RoboHelp crashes in Windows 7, but none seem to have the same cause as mine.
Has anyone else had this problem?
    Thanks,
    Tammy

OK, now I know what causes it, but I'm not sure what to do about it yet. I'm working on it.
We have a new "@import" line in our style sheet (turns out it wasn't my htt modifications at all!!) that RoboHelp apparently doesn't like. We did this because I couldn't get RoboHelp 8 to let me asisgn multiple style sheets to topics, so I had to put an import line in one to pull in the other.
Since I did this, I have logged a feature request asking that RoboHelp allow multiple style sheet links in topics. Adobe has replied that this is possible in RoboHelp 8, but the forums had previously said it was not, and I was seeing my second link deleted, so I'll have to revisit this to see if I can get it to work one more time. If not, we'll have to live with the crash. Hope RoboHelp becomes more flexible with these things in the future!

  • "Load Environment" not loading in RoboHelp 7

If you save an environment, exit RoboHelp 7, then open
RoboHelp and click File > Load Environment, RoboHelp hangs and
doesn't load the environment. I've set up several and it hasn't
worked since I installed RoboHelp a year ago. I didn't see anything
in the KnowledgeBase about it. Does anyone have a solution?

    Hi Gina
I see Peter asked this initially but I'm not sure your answer
was clear as to whether you were saving your Environment file
locally or not. What you replied with was that you were "running
locally". There is a huge difference between "running locally"
(ensuring your project is stored on your local C drive and not on
the network) and where you are choosing to save the environment
    file.
When RoboHelp tries to save the environment file, it attempts
to save in the "My Documents/My RoboHelp Projects" folder.
Sometimes we see that our lovely little Network Admins
arrange Windows so that this location is stored on a Network Server
as opposed to our hard drives. While this may make sense to them,
it may also cause us grief with our applications.
You might try changing the location to point simply at C:\
(or create a folder off C:\ - perhaps C:\Projects) and see if it
will save in that location without locking up RoboHelp. I believe
this is what Peter asked about when he asked if you were saving the
    environment locally.
Please post back with whether this works or not.
Apologies if I misread your responses and you intended to
convey that you indeed had tried saving the environment file
locally. I don't believe there is anything in these beasties that
is "Project Specific". The only thing that may make sense to me
about a large project is that it's causing more resources to be
used on the PC where you are opening it.
    Cheers... Rick

I am exhausted from deleting specific HTML code to make the content work. Plus there seems to be an issue with the margins moving around. Can someone help me with this HTLM code nightmare? Other than deleting it all and inputting the text again? This is the only topic in my project in which this has occurred.

    Hi Gloria,
Its not possible to talk about a solution until you know the issue which caused it. the question is the HTML cannot get reorganize in RoboHelp if it is not edited exclusively - by this I mean if you bring in all the content through RoboHelp UI then RoboHelp will not change HTML by itself, until you manually change the html code.
you should try to find out the cause of the seizure (by which I think you mean hang), It could be that you are using any version control and it failed to checkout/checkin one or more project files, It might be that .cpd file got corrupted in that case you can try deleting the .cpd file after closing the project and it will get recreated by RoboHelp on next Open project, or it is possible that some of your shared resources might be missing/moved because of which RoboHelp hangs then in such case you should replace/remove these resources.
You should not be working on the project over network (i.e. the Project should be on the local drive).
Are you using CBTs and UDVs or your topics are too large (and thus processing of these topics seizes RoboHelp)
by any means deleting random HTML code of any topic might actually make the HTML invalid and cause more crashes or hangs.
I have listed down almost all the reason..
one way is to remove topics and find out the culprit topics which causes the hang and if you find one you can share it with me at [email protected] and I might find the cause of RH hang by inspecting that
    Hope this helps

  • XPJ file appears to be corrupt -- have exhausted all known fixes

    Hello all,
Before I forget, here's the rundown on our system:
RoboHelp 8, version 8.0.2.208 (all patches up-to-date, to our knowledge); RoboHTML used exclusively
Microsoft Visual SourceSafe 2005, version 8.0.50727.42
    Windows XP
    Three help projects
Two on VSS; third does not work right from VSS, so we update it separately
One of the two on VSS appears to be corrupt (see below) -- RoboHelp hangs when trying to launch the XPJ file
All other help projects are fine
    Four help authors
    Background of the problem:
On Tuesday late afternoon, one of our authors was in the help project in question and had several topics checked out when our network went down. She closed the help project with the files still checked out, and when the network came back up, she went back in, got the expected messages about "files are checked out, do you want to replace them with the version from source control or keep them checked out and use your local copy." Since she didn't want to lose her changes, I instructed her to keep them checked out, and then check them back in when everything came up. However, when she tried to check them back in, RoboHelp hung. This was late in the day, so she closed down RH manually and resolved to deal with it in the morning.
The next morning, one of our other authors, who gets in very early, was able to get into the help project just fine and work in it all day. This second author was not aware that the problems from the previous day continued. I was also able to get into the help project at this time. The first author then tried to get into the help project, but wasn't able to get in at all. The second author needed to get into the checked out files to make changes, so I instructed the first author on how to go into VSS and check those files in directly from there, without having to get into RH. At this point, I assumed the problem resided only with the first author's instance of the project, but I didn't think that checking in some topics would exacerbate the problem. (Maybe it did.) I figured, at most, we might need to pull down the help project from the network to her C drive again to fix the problem.
A little while later, the third author and I both tried to get into the help project and were not able to. At this point, only the second author, who had gotten into the project early in the morning, was in the help project and was not having any problems. At the end of the day yesterday, she saved and checked in all of her files. However, this morning, she came in and now she is not able to get into the help project, either.
    Troubleshooting attempted:
The error dialog that displays when you shut down an app manually indicates that the app has hung. (No kidding, but thought I'd better say I looked at it.) The actual error reports, of course, were incomprehensible.
Attempted to launch XPJ without source control: Made a copy of the help project to a different location and deleted the vssver2.scc files in the copy. Tried to launch XPJ and it hung.
Attempted to rebuild the XPJ and CPD files: Backed up the help project on C drive, deleted CPD file, renamed XPJ file, and then double-clicked the HHP file. Had to copy and paste the path to the RoboHTML.exe file in the Locate Program dialog box. Received an error that the HHP file is corrupt. Then opened RoboHelp and tried launching the HHP file from the Starter window. Received messages about making various APJ and FPJ files writable. Thought this was a good sign, so I clicked OK on all of them, and then RH hung again.
Pulled down a new version in source control to my C drive, but RH still hangs when launching XPJ. This problem appears to be with the version in source control as well.
At this point, we're afraid our only course of action is to get our IT department to revert the entire help project in source control to the version that existed before the network went down on Tuesday and then pull that version to our C drives. However, we will lose some work from late Tuesday and yesterday. Is there anything else we should try before doing this?
Thank you in advance for your help. I apologize for the novel, but I figured I better be thorough.
    Thanks,
    Lisa

First, check that the cpd, ldb and pss files aren't included in source control.
With Robohelp closed, ensure that there isn't an ldb file in your project directory - this should only exist while Robohelp is open but sometimes gets left behind when Robohelp crashes.
If you any of the above existe in the specified locations, delete them (and the cpd on the c drive for good measure) and try to open the project again.
If you want to test the project outside source control, there is an additional step which you don't mention, so I'll put it here in case you didn't do it and want to try again. As well as deleting the .scc files, you also need to manually edit the xpj file. Open it in Notepad and delete everything between the <miscproperties> tags. (If you only see <miscproperties/> don't do anything to the file. This can cause other issues, but I won't go into them right now. It might be relevent to the 3rd project you mentioned depending on what 'doesn't work right' means.)
    See how that goes,
    Amber

  • Tr:commandnavigationitem issues (forcing double click)

We are migrating our application to JDeveloper 11.1.2(using JSF 2.0 and Trinidad). We have fixed all minor issues that came along with the conversion EXCEPT on the menu.
The problem happens when the user has performed an action on a page causing the application to go to the database. After completing the action the user selects the menu to navigate to another page. Prior to the conversion the menu worked fine, the user clicked a link once and the navigation worked. Now the user must click the link twice in order for the navigation to work(ONLY when the user has performed an action of some sort).
Initially we thought it was a focus issue, but that has proven to be yet another dead end.
    Thank you for your assistance.

  • Accessing the Open dialog causes RoboHelp to hang and eventually crash.

Whenever I attempt to take an action that requires the Windows "open" dialog, RoboHelp starts to hang and eventually crashes.
My only thought: I've seen other .NET applications have issues like this where the framework steals window focus from the Windows dialog. Could this be happening here?
Has anyone ever seen anything like this? Any ideas?
    Many thanks!

Does the dialog even make an appearance? Or does it behave as if the dialog is there but unseen?
If the former, I'd say I smell a bug somewhere. But if it's the latter, try pressing and holding your Windows key on the keyboard. Then press the left arrow key a couple of times. Under some conditions dialogs will appear but be out of the viewable space. If that has happened, that key combination should coax the window back into the viewable area.

  • RoboHelp 11 for TSC 5 hangs when linking to FrameMaker 12 files

    I have TCS5, RH11, FM12, all patched up.
I have a FM book that comprises only FM files and only one of those FM files has any images; the rest just have text that uses paragraph and character styles.
When I do the following, RH just hangs and I have to end task on it. I have given RH several hours, but the problem never resolves well. FM and all other applications except Google Chrome are closed when I do this.
    1) Open RoboHelp.
    2) Click File > New > Project.
    3) Choose Application Help and click OK.
    4) Enter appropriate content in the New Project Wizard and click Finish.
    5) In RoboHelp, click File > Link > FrameMaker document.
    6) Select either  the book file OR an individual fm file; experience shows what happens is the same either way.
    7) Click Open.
At this point, the Scanning dialog box opens and animations of files moving left to right and being scanned displays. This never goes away. RoboHelp is done for.
How can I link FrameMaker files to a new project?

    Hi,
There was nothing to update in FM, no generated lists, etc. Book opened fine as did all the FMs, though. Images in only one place, but PNGs nothing weird. Removed and reinstalled TSC 3 times. Am going to try importing.

  • RoboHelp 7 HTML hangs

    New to RoboHelp.
After install ok, run RoboHelp 7 for HTML, I get the splash
screen with message "Version control init", then nothing more.
    RoboHelp for Word works OK.
Calling RoboHelp HTML from roboHelp for word hangs too.
    Thanks for help.

    Hi all,
we solved the problem for us today. It turned out that RH
doesn't really hang when you double-click the item, it just takes
about half an hour to open the project. It seems that although we
haven't even installed Source Control, RH looks into a certain
Registry Key (see below) to get information about source control.
In our case, this Registry Key referred to a network location that
wasn't accessible. That's why it took ages until RH was ready to
open the project. So here's what we did:
    - Get Process Monitor tool from www.sysinternals.com
    - Unzip and start it
    - Filter events for "Process Name is RoboHelp.html" (Include)
and "Path begins with \\" (Include)
    - Verify that all network file access succeeds.
    - In our case, an obsolete source code control provider
configuration caused file access to a network location no longer
    exisiting
    - Purged SCCP configuration in registry:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/SourceCodeControlProvider:
    - Delete ProviderRegKey item
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/SourceCodeControlProvider\InstalledSCCProviders:
    - Delete all items
    Bye,

  • RoboHelp 10 - Hanging While Opening as User on Windows 7

    OS: Windows 7 Enterprise x64
    Product: RoboHelp 10
I have setup the 64bit install of Robohelp using the application manager. After a full install, when a user trys to open Robohelp is just hangs at "intializing user data". If I right click and "Run as Administrator" and enter credentials to run as a local Administrator, it works fine. We can not have the users do this.
Is there something that is a known issue or something I am missing?
    Thanks

Are you perhaps confusing what the users of the Output created by RoboHelp will need to do with the users of the RoboHelp HTML application will need to do?
While I'm unaware of RoboHelp needing to be run as an Admin to use the editing environment, there should be no need for this to happen by average users of the output created by RoboHelp.
