Roland TD-12 Sound Module and iPad

I would like to hook up my iPad to my Roland Drums TD-12 sound module. I'd like to be able to use my ipad as a controller as well as download new effects. Please let me know if you have done this and/or where I might find instructions to do this. Thanks!

Simple question: using mainstage as sound module AND run multi tracks live

If doing vocals and latency is a problem, you can also experiment with taking your live (dry) signal direct (if you interface allows this) into your mix, which will be zero latency. Live signal also goes through MainStage to apply effects such as reverb and delay, and you feed the wet only signal to a separate "vocal fx" mix channel.
Of course, you can't apply plug-in based eq and compression to the realtime signal (or your back to the latency problem), you would have to rely on hardware/mixer for that. I have experimented with this method with good results...
Others have reported not being bothered by the amount of vocal latency, but I wonder...

Using Roland percussion sound module inside Logic 8.

Hello,
I have a Roland td-6v percussion sound module and want the sounds to show up inside logic for use. How do I do that? I have a 002 with two midi cables connected (midi in and out from the Roland module coming into the 002). I have been able to use the kit as a controller for sounds inside logic and also control the kit from logics sequencer out through midi. (I could record drums as Audio but that's not the idea)

There really isn't any easy way to do this. so i assume you know that MIDI doesn't transfer any "audio" only information note on note off velocity etc. although they talk fine about this stuff logic does not have direst access to the sounds in your roland memory.
To get them "into" logic. you would have to record the roland sounds as audio. you can do this as a track in your song by bouncing, that is recording the audio from the roland to a track. or you can go in and record the sounds individually (not as a beat per se) then chop out the individual hits and load them in to the EXS24 or Ultrabeat as a custom drum kit. then they would be "available" to logic.
There is no way to just load the sounds from your roland (or really any instrument) into logic.
however there is a product that can automate the process of sampling midi instruments and then create custom EXS24 kits. It is made by Redmatica and is called AutoSampler you can check it out at

Where are my sound module preset names in the track list?

I've been using Logic since version 2.5 and, since I have several MIDI sound modules whose sounds I'm perfectly happy with, I am now using those sound modules with Logic 8.
But having just upgraded to 8 from 7, I've discovered something I think is missing, which is a bit of an annoyance.
In all previous versions of Logic, if you set up a instrument in the Environment for a MIDI sound module and then added all the preset names when you set up the bank/program change commands, when you select a preset from the track list in the Arrange window, the name in the track list changed from the name of the instrument to the name of the preset.
For example, the name would change from 'Fantom XR' (the name I'd called the instrument in the Environment) to 'PNO SoTrue' (the name of the preset) in the track list when I selected that preset via Logic.
However, in Logic 8, when I select a preset, the name on the track list now stays as 'Fantom XR' (or whatever the name of the instrument is) and doesn't change to that of the preset.
Given that I use six MIDI modulss, keeping track of the sounds by having the trak list name change to that of the presets was really useful for keeping track of what was what.
Have I just missed something with how to do it, or is a permanent change? I really hope not.

No, it's still there, but the interface has changed.
Right-click on a track and select "Configure Track Header"
In the box that comes up, enable the checkbox under "Names" and next to it (the second flip menu), select "Software Instrument Setting Name".
Now the program names in your multi-instruments are displayed in the manner you have been accustomed to.
As ever, save this stuff in your autoload to always have you own configs available.
You have some options there in that the two flip menus determine the first and second displayed track name, so you can set up how you like - it's more flexible than earlier versions of Logic.

Sound modules

Along the lines of sound issues in the devfs thread (here), where might one locate modules to use for their soundcards? Aside from asking the soundcard (or the chipset) manufacturers, though - I use hand-me-down hardware quite frequently... anyone heard of the Mwave Jazz16? They're gone, as far as I can tell. No problem there, that card works with SB emulation. Are the appropriate modules universal - could I use a module from day one in todays kernel? The most frequently used soundcards seem to be included, but often, a card I have in hand is not popular and I'd like to do it myself, as it were, without asking for each and every module.

No, I get so many hand-me-down systems from my employer, I really can't predict which card will be next. Mostly I get obscure cards like AzTech, MWave, ESS, etc. I have only recently needed to ask about modules, because Arch is (appropriately) a lean distro - Arch does not include the billion or so soundcard modules which would cover every possible soundcard that has ever been made available.
That means user need to research where modules can be obtained. User like dopey old dunbar.
So first of all, that I can check my soundcard (or motherboard chipset) manufacturer for drivers. And most manufacturers say 'Linux? Isn't that the illegal OS which hackers user for criminal activities? We don't support Linux, get a real OS...'
Then the question is answered as
A] check with the particular sound software which you are using - OSS or ALSA. I'll have to guesstimate that ARTS is similar, in this search.
Then,
B] search for "Linux +sound +module +" and add my unique sound setup information to the google string.
Thats it? Everyone feels this covers most anything I will encounter?

And lastly, hold your thoughts, this might gravitate towards a light duty audio workstation effort, but that will be later - hold your thoughts.

I just put Facetime on my MacBook and Ipad. I can connect and recieve video but no sound. The other person can hear me. If I use Skype everything works fine. I can't find any where in Facetime to change settings for the audio. Any suggestions

Options for when an iOS device gets locked because of forgotten passcode:

The Retrospect you used way back when is no longer around. The company was sold and that company produced a new version of Retrospect - Retrospect 8.x
So, as you've been told, you would have to be running a Tiger system with an old version of Retrospect software (5.x or 6.x - you would need to know) assuming you can find the software.
As best I can remember you cannot extract files from a Retrospect backup except using the software since Retrospect did not normally make a file by file backup rather it created an archive of the files in the backup. I'm assuming that the EMC/Retrospect people have told you that old Retrospect backups are not accessible by Retrospect 8.x?

Sound on my ipad only works when I enter my pass code and when I play games. But when I typed, however, or try to listen to music/YouTube/Netflix, the sound doesn't work. When I double tap and go to the task manager, the volume slider has no dot. Help?

I did not have this problem earlier today. I haven't dropped it recently or any such thing. I have, however, used two different audio jacks today. Although it makes keyboard sounds when I type in my pass code, it doesn't make the sounds otherwise. I also tested the sound on temple run and it worked. My slider key is set to mute, not to lock screen. When I try to adjust the volume, it'll say "sound effects" and the volume will be turned all the way down, but it won't let me turn it up. I got this iPad in December and unfortunately did not purchase AppleCare and I believe the warranty has passed. Any suggestions as to what's wrong?

I dont get sound for videos, games and music but ringtone still works. When i press volume buttons on side of phone i only get the picture of the nell and no little dots underneath. This is on my iphone 4s and ipad. It happened at the same time.

Recurring theme with the 4s losing alerts except for the phone ringing. Most complaints seem to center on the 7.1 upgrade. The fix is dodgy, putting in a charger, playing a you tube video then pulling out the charger and wiggling it until you get the sound back. When you get the sound back, the volume buttons start to work again. Alternate solutions involve cleaning the docking port with a toothbrush, running a pick over the electrodes etc.

Try this - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Check your settings. The iPads have a small switch on the right edge. It can be used as a rotation lock to keep the screen from automatically reorienting itself as you move around, but you need to have the tablet’s settings configured properly. That same switch, right above the volume buttons, can also be set to function instead as a mute button to silence certain types of audio.
If the switch is set to work as a mute button, you can change its purpose to “screen-rotation lock” by tapping the Settings icon on the home screen. On the Settings screen, tap General on the left side, and on the right side of the screen flick down to “Use Side Switch to.” Tap to select Lock Rotation or Mute to set the button’s function. Even if you set the side switch for your preferred use, you can still mute the Mini or lock the screen. Just double-click the Home button, and when the panel of apps appears along the bottom edge of the screen, flick the row from left to right with your finger. Tap the icon on the far left side of the row to either lock the iPad’s screen or mute the iPad’s alerts, notifications and sound effects. Music, podcasts and video are not muted unless you turn the volume all the way down.

I have two different computers, one with AE CS4 and a other one with AE CS 5.5.
On both systems ( Windows 7 64) my Echo audio fire4 sound-module driver is not working proper
and crashing AE. Despite the latest updates from Echo. When I uninstall the driver the problems
are gone!
That's the reason I'm looking for a good stable sound-module (FireWire) to work with Premiere Pro
and AE.

Do you get sound on any apps e.g. Music and Videos but not others ? If you do then have you got notifications muted ? Only notifications (including games) get muted, so the Music and Videos apps, and headphones, still get sound.
Depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (mute or rotation lock), then you can mute notifications by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad, or via the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon far left; press home again to exit the taskbar.
