Row Calculation (Navigation Ragged Dimension)

Hello,
I have a row calculation/navigation question with the Olap Analysis product in 4.1 compare to 3.1.  Currently we are in BOE3.1 but want to go BI4.1.
We use SSAS 2008 as the main source for OLAP.  In 3.1 when we don't want to see a member (in this case central), we de-select it from
the members list, the total remain the same.  In 4.1 we cannot do that anymore.  If we de-select central from the members list,
the total re-calculate as depicted by the example below.  Basically the row column become a filter. Is there a option for this so the data doesn't recalculate.  We want the same behavior as 3.1
On a related note. The navigation on the slice and dice in analysis is more cumbersome in 4.1, you always have to go the the layout
to change filter.  Is there a way to make it more similar to 3.1. Less clicking

Hi Ian,
Thanks for the response? What is best way to contact you We don't have direct support with SAP. We go through a 3rd party.  Thus I want some information before contacting them.

  • SSAS ProcessAdd: ProcessAdd only one row to a big dimension(100 minion records) is very slow, Why?

I'm using the xmla to add a custom dsv to doing processadd, in my testing, only process add 1 row to a big dimension(already has more than 100minion rows) will cost more than 10 mins. bellow is the test enviorement:
DimensionTable: TestDimension with only one column PKey, which is the identity key, type is int.
Test machine: Vitual Machine, Windows Server 2012+SSAS 2012. the machine has 64G Memory and 8 cores CPU.
Does anyone can tell me why processadd only 1 row cost so much time? what does the SSAS do when processadd a dimension. i want internal explanations. Using profiler tool, i found many read data, is this a bug with SSAS? does it need read all the dimension
data to rebuild the dimension structure or level or index?

    Hi Hong,
According to your description, you want to know why processadd only 1 row cost 10 minutes, right? ProcessAdd sound like a useful option (faster than ProcessUpdate, less impact than ProcessFull etc) but when you try and use it you will find it is not as straightforward
as the others. Here is a blog which explain the ProcessAdd option deeply, please refer to the link below.

  • Result Row calculation

Hi  result rows calculation is not happening properly in result rows as per the formula .
Formual for Absolute Error =  Final forecast - Actuals
Follwing is the report out put
    Material                    Period01
    10324401     Final Forecast        733,490.000 LB
         Actuals              555,583.67 LB
         Absolute Error       177,906.33
    10326795     Final Forecast        1,306,894.935 LB
         Actuals               1,406,158.27 LB
         Absolute Error         99,263.33
    10329435     Final Forecast         188,000.000 LB
         Actuals               192,000.00 LB
         Absolute Error        4,000.00

         Actuals               215,999.82 LB
         Absolute Error        139,893.89

         Actuals                0.00 LB
         Absolute Error         158,733.08
Overall Result Final Forecast        2,463,223.949 LB
         Actuals                2,369,741.76 LB
         Absolute Error         579,796.62
In the above report , Material wise calculation for Absolute error is correctly calculating ,  BUT when it comes to Over all Result  its just summing up all  materials Absolute error and showing .
What i want in  over all result  is Absolute error should be calculated as overall Final Forecast - Over all actual ( I.e formula should be applied to over all result also ).
I tried with exception aggragation and other stuff but nothing is working .
Can any one Help me  to apply the formula for result rows also ...
Helpfull inputs will be appriciated with points .
    thanks in advance

Hi All  thanks for ur replies .
I solved my issue  as  following  .
Formual for Absolute Error = Final forecast - Actuals
For Absolute error  formula  there are some ' exceptional aggregation ' and 'calculate result value as '  .
I removed these ' exceptional aggregation ' and 'calculate result value as '  and refreshed the report  now  in result rows
' Absolute Error'  is calculating   as desired i.e by using result rows  ' final forecast' value & ' actuals' values in the formulae .

  • Show row/column with empty dimension values.

I have 2 columns where 1 column is dimension and 1 column is measure.  I need to hide the row when the dimension is empty.
What I did is at the block I UN-TICK  "Show row/column with empty dimension values".  But it didnt works.
    Thanks.

click on the block and add a filter with condition dimension isnotnull. this will eliminate the dimension rows with empty values.

  • Excel 2010 - Calculated Members on Dimension

    Hi
Was wondering if there was any workaround in Excel 2010 to make these appear. My understanding is that the behaviour is unchanged from 2007.
Does anyone know of any plans to support calculated members on dimensions in Excel?
    Cheers

I added the following to Adventure Works and it displays in Excel 2010 if I make sure to tick the option to display calculated members from the OLAP server.
    CREATE
    MEMBER
    CURRENTCUBE.[Date].[Calendar].[All Periods].test
    AS 123,
    VISIBLE = 1 ;
The other approach is to add a physical member to your dimension and then use a SCOPE to set the value based on an expression. This way you don't need to set the option to display calculated members.

  • Tabular/DAX calculation sensitive to dimension (dragged) -- is it possible?

    hi All,
I would like to know if it is possible to create a calculation that will behave differently depending on the dimensions dragged on a grid, basically, I have two date dimensions and depending on which dimension is put on the rows or cols (or both!?) for the
    calculation to behave differently.
    thx much for any pointers,

    Hi Cos,
Personally, I don't think we can achieve this requirement for your particular scenario.

  • [ADF-11.1.2] Link on adf tabel does not select row before navigation

    Hi,
I have a List of Contries displayed in table with a view button on panel collection toolbar. User Select the country row, which makes changes current row of country View Iterator binding on page, and click on view button, which navigates to detail page of selected country. This works fine.
But I want to reduce the number for clicks made by user. So I converted one of column of county table to link with the same action as view button. So now... User Selects the row, click on link button of selected row, navigation works fine. But when user directly clicks on link, without selecting row, it navigates to last selected row (or probabily the first row when user open the table for first time).
I was under impression that when link is there under af|column, adf would internally selects the row before any action happens otherwise what's the use of having link in column ?.
Please correct me, if I am worng.

    Ahh sorry... My bad.
I am using firefox 10 which seems not supported yet.
I tried on IE 9 and chrome and it's working fine there.
I will try with firefox 4 and post here in case if I find any issue.

  • Row-base security - mulitiple dimensions

    Hi
I filter data using the row-wise initialization.
In groups, in security filter, the logical SQL is eg.:
    Group "Region 1" has filter: DM."Dim Region"."rg_id" = VALUEOF("R1")
    Group "Region 2" has filter: DM."Dim Region"."rg_id" = VALUEOF("R2")
R1, R2- are static variables containing numeric IDs of regions.
User belongs to one or more groups.
That works good for one dimension Region and the condition in sql is like:
    WHERE Region.rg_id in (1,2)
When I've added next serveral groups for second dimension, eg.:
    Group "Category 1" has filter: DM."Dim Category"."Ct_id" = VALUEOF("C1")
    Group "Category 2" has filter: DM."Dim Category"."Ct_id" = VALUEOF("C1")
generated sql has the condition like this:
    WHERE
    Region.rg_id in (1,2)
    OR
    Category.Ct_id in (1,2)
But, I'd like to have logical sum:
    WHERE
    Region.rg_id in (1,2)
    AND
    Category.Ct_id in (1,2)
    regards
    Harnas

    Hi
Thanks, I am able to figure out that.
But I am stuck in performance issue with this approach, I am applying filter on my fact table , but my issue is that for a given user, filter values are in thousands, so OBIEE is putting them in a IN Clause(1,.... 20000) and when the actual query get executed it had performance issue.
Is there any way where I can write subquery on fact table instead of storing multiple values in dynaic variable.
Another issue is that when user log in , this variable get initialize which result in delay in login for the user.

  • Row Calculation Line Height Issue: Not Same Height as Column Lines

    Hi,
I am using BI 4.1 SP4 with Microsoft SQL Server 2012.
When building calculations, I have noticed that the height of the line (in the rows section) is not the same as the line in the columns section. It is slightly larger. By the third calculation, it becomes very noticeable. I know that I can adjust the height and make it bigger, but I can not make is smaller.
Please let me know how I can resolve this unalignment issue in the crosstab:
    Thank you,
    Michael

    Hi Michael,
I'm afraid I can't say. This appears to be an IE10 rendering issue, rather than an SAP issue. I did some further testing and I don't see the problem in IE11 or Chrome but it is very apparent in IE10. I've included a screenshot from IE11 and as you can see the table is not misaligned.

  • Results row calculation between two column result  in BEx Report.

I want to use weighted average method between two keyfigure.
for example consider the following secnario.
    CH        Kf1       Kf2
    A         10        5
    B          6        4
    C          3        2
    Result     19     b]4.21</b>
    how 4.21 is ((105)+(64)+(3*2))/total of Kf1(ie 19)
    ( A value(Kf1Kf2)+ B value (Kf1Kf2) + C Value (Kf1*Kf2))/total value (Kf1) = 4.21
is it possible to achieve the above result for Kf2.

  • Inter row calculation

    Hi all,
In my region select query (SELECT A,B,C,D FROM SOURCE ).
I have edited the Report attributes to have 'Select Static LOV' in column A and 'Select Static LOV' in column B.
These Static lovs for A & B are distinct column(different) value of a table X.
Now i want Col D in Tabular report to be calculated on the base of values in A & B
Is there a way to do that, any help will be highly appreciated

  • ADF Faces Table with a Total row calculated?

    Hi there OTN Community:
    I have another doubt.
I have an EJB dataControl, and i use one of his collections to display the data in an ADF Faces Table. One of the columns of the Adf Faces Table is numeric, And i have to display the Total of that Column.
I only shows 10 rows per screen, but i need to show the total of all the rows.
    How i can calculate it?

Mmmmm..... You're right!...I will try that.
    Thanx :)
Hey, and....You know? i was thinking, maybe i can get the iterator and then capture each object of the iterator to compute the total. That is a crazy idea?, its possible?, its not recommended? or its ok too? :P
    Thanx in advance.

  • Date tool calculation dimension is causing duplicated rows in drill through

I am implementing a date tool as per:
    http://www.sqlbi.com/articles/datetool-dimension-an-alternative-time-intelligence-implementation
I have my date tool dimension shell with 10 rows, a row for each calculation. I've created the scope statements in the cube. The date tool is working with the calculations I've created.
I've found a problem with drill through in Excel 2013 where it returns duplicate rows. It looks like its a cross join of rows that should be returned by the number of rows (calculations) in my date tool dimension. If I remove the date tool dimension from
the cube I have the correct number of rows so I know it's definitely the cause. I commented out the scope statements to see if that was the problem and it isn't. There must be something else on the configuration that I've missed but I can't spot it. Any ideas?

  • Report with multiple dimensions in Row and Column with EvEXP

    Hi
We are currently running BPC 7.0 SP3 and try to create the report(or schedule) with more 2 x 2 dimensions in the row and column.
    e.g.
row dimension : Outer row is Entity, Inner row is Account
column dimension : Outer column is Time, Inner row is Category
We created the report with  2 x 2 dimensions like above e.g. with EvEXP and EvNXP, NOT EvDRE
based on default dynamic template:Template13.xlt(Nested Row, 2 x 1 dimensions defined by EvEXP and EvNXP formula).
However, when expanding the dimension with double click these dimensions or change CV of the report with  2 x 2 dimensions defined by EvEXP and EvNXP formula,
error occurs on EvEXP and EvNXP formula and can't retrieve the result correctly.
    [Question]
Can't we create the report with more 2 x 2 dimensions in the row and column using EvEXP and EvNXP function ?
We understand that we can make the report with more 2 x 2 dimensions in the row and column if using EvDRE.
    Thank You in advance
    Kenya

    Thank you for your advice.
I understand that we should use EvDRE when creating the report with multiple dimension in the row/column because EvEXP have some erros, poor performance, etc.
    Then, we have two questions.
    1)
    >plus they had some errors in the designs.
what kind of errors they have as an example?
    2)
    >If you must build the EVEXP and EVNXP, I would suggest building the template from scratch
We built the simple template with just 2 x 2 dimension from scratch.
But this report doesn't work well when double-click the dimension or changing CV...
Would you please check the following template?
    <https://sapmats-de.sap-ag.de/download/download.cgi?id=RCZE1ME4YSORY3DCDO4NNMANZLBL1L5ZBUOB2F71YVNVS8XDJW>
It would be greatly appreciated if you could give me your advice for the template.
    Thank you again
    And my best regards,
    Kenya
