RPD Development from OLTP
Hi guys
Is it possible to create RPD from OLTP datasource in OBIEE. I wanted to know if its possible and are their any issues or limitaions of this .
thanks
Yes, it is possible, but you need to know what you are doing. Data in a OLTP datasource is normalized in 3NF (third normal form). In the BMM layer of your rpd, you need to create a star model with dimensions and facts. This can be tricky, because you can't just join every table to each other.

Infopackage hierarchy selection from OLTP is not saved when transported
I have created an infopackage in Development that is pulling an available hierarchy. I then transported Infopackage to QA, but the Hierarchy, although is available from OLTP, is not selected in InfoPackage. I created a copy of InfoPackage in the QA system and selected available hierarchy. It allows me to select hierarchy, save and execute. The issue I have is I need to transport the InfoPackage, created in DEV to all QA and Production systems. The InfoPackage is not retaining available hierarchy when being transported.
Hi,
Usually infopackage will not be transported but created in QA and production systems. If the infopackage is transported to QA, the pushbutton in infopackage Hierarchies in OLTP will bring the hiearachies available in the QA R/3 system. Appropiate hierachy can be selected and the same infopackage can be saved.

Is there a way to run a script to create an RPD file from MDS XML files
We would be interested in using the MDS XML format for the RPD file in saving it in our Subversion source code control system, and I have seen how to do this in the User documentation.
Our question is whether or not there is a way to use a command line tool to recreate the rpd file without having to use the Admin tool, so that we can automate the deployment of the RPD file from source code control to QA and Production environments.
If we check in the RPD file directly, then there is a way to automate the process, but we would prefer to use the MDS XML format since this allows us to save changes in text format, not binary, but we still need to be able to automate the process.
In the Oracle Fusion Middleware XML Schema Reference for Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition document, I have found that there is a way to automate the creation of the MDS XML files from an RPD file using this command:
biserverxmlgen -M -R repository_pathname [-P password] -D output_directory [-8] [-N] [-Q|-S]
So my question is basically is there a way to reverse this process, to use some command line tool (or Weblogic Scripting or some other mechanism) to create the RPD file from the MDS XML files? Are there options on the biserverxmlexec command that will do what I am asking?Hey dmfairley,
Thanks for the question. You can absolutely export the project as .mp3, as outlined in this resource:
GarageBand Help: Export songs to disk
http://help.apple.com/garageband/mac/10.0/#gbnd7cbf5ed9
Export songs to disk
You can export a project to your computer as a stereo audio file.
Exported files can be reused in GarageBand to save processing resources by replacing or bypassing multiple regions, instruments, and effects. They can also be used with other music applications and devices, posted on the Internet (on a webpage, or in the iTunes Store, for example), added to an iTunes playlist, or uploaded to a mobile device such as iPhone or iPad.
1. Choose Share > Export Song to Disk.
2. To rename the exported file, select the name in the Save As field, then enter a new name.
3. Choose a location to save the exported file from the Where pop-up menu.
4. Select the format for the exported file (AAC, MP3, or AIFF).
5. Choose the quality setting for the exported file from the Quality pop-up menu.
6. Click Export.

One thing I noticed in that log is the file path

that is wrong it should be file://///mt000xvrpt91/tools/SQLDeveloper/ide/extensions/oracle.ide.db.jar
ie, 5 "/" after "file:" instead of 4 "/"
If I run SQL developer after Mapping the network drive to "S" I get following.

My intention is to keep SQL Developer on a readonly share folder and send the path to end users.
Ideally I wish I could use UNC path so that I dont have to worry about the drive mapping. -

Design Fixed Assets Star Schema from OLTP DB
Hi,
Scope : Design Fixed Assets logical Star Schema for Demonstrate with OLTP tables
Our platform is Oracle 10g Forms and Reports deployed on Oracle 10g App Server._ At the moment we don’t have data warehouse constructed. We are pumping OLTP Data into Staging DB thru jobs and then by using materialized views getting the data in DWH DB which is in progress.
OBIEE 10g installed and working fine for testing.
We are planning to implement OBIEE for Reporting. As a starting point I would like to design Fixed Assets star schema to demonstrate FA reports in OBIEE from OLTP Tables.
FA- OLTP Tables:_
AC_UNIT_MASTR – Business Units
AC_ACNT_MASTR - Nominal Codes
AC_COST_CENTR_MASTR - Departments
AC_MANTN_ASTS - Assets transaction table
AC_AST_BAL_DETLS – Period wise Asset summary
AC_AST_BAL_DETLS_V - View
To achieve this
1).Import tables in physical layer and set physical joins
2).identify and create dimensions and set complex joins and then move to presentation layer.
Please suggest best approach to design Repository
Thanks

Thanks for the response.
Already i referred that doc and completed practically. now i have to work on Finance data . as a starting point working with Fixed Assets module. already i designed centralised fact with dimensions as below
in physical&BMM layer defined relationship as below()
AC_UNIT_MASTR_D --> AC_AST_BAL_DETLS_F
AC_ACNT_YEAR_MASTR_D --> AC_AST_BAL_DETLS_F
AC_ACNT_PERD_MASTR_D --> AC_AST_BAL_DETLS_F
AC_COST_CENTR_MASTR_D --> AC_AST_BAL_DETLS_F
AC_AST_GRP_MASTR_D --> AC_AST_BAL_DETLS_F
AC_AST_SUBGRP_MASTR_D --> AC_AST_BAL_DETLS_F
and
AC_ACNT_YEAR_MASTR_D --> AC_ACNT_PERD_MASTR_D
When iam trying to create a dimension for Periods(AC_ACNT_PERD_MASTR) , Periods dimesnion created with two tables
AC_ACNT_YEAR_MASTR_D,AC_ACNT_PERD_MASTR_D
Please advice..

Refresh available hierarchies from oltp / mark as relevant for BW in abap
Hi All,
I can't solve this problem: I am loading hierarchies from R/3 to BW via infopackage. I created the solution to use one infopackage to load more than 300 hierarchies. But before I can do that I have to open an Infopackege, press the button "Refresh available hierarchies from oltp" and then mark relevant hierarchies for BW.<br><br>
Is it possible to do this in abap via function module / BAPI or somehow else? I'd like to implement the whole solution in process chain but I need to solve this before.<br><br>
Thank you, Karol<br><br><br>
P.S.: 10 points will be rewarded!Hello Karol,
I am trying to implement the same, can you please forward me the process and the solution you implemented to resolve this.
It will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Oracle Portal Development from different geographic locations
Hello,
Have anyone done the development with Oracle Portal from different geographic locations, our customer want to know is there a way we can develop Oracle portal application from different geographic locations and merge it one place.
One reason is because the portal is in the database. If you have two separate groups work to build a single portal, it reason that each team would have their own installation. When these two groups are done (or periodically), the development efforts must be merged into the final complete portal. Is this possible using Oracle Portal (merging portal installations)?
Second reason is that typically other systems owned by the customer are exposed or accessed by portlets. Access to these portlets would probably be required for development. If nothing else then for unit testing.
How do you typically see off-shoring done with Oracle Portal, if at all? Or am I incorrect in my thinkings. How does the Portal meta-data stores the portal configurations is it possible to merge different portal schema into one and make it the main portal environment.
Please let me know if anyone successfully done this. Your comments would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

thanks a lot!Which infoobject
I normally see this in CO hierarchies where the hierarchy which is not desginated as a top node hierarchy is not available on the OLTP list (correctly!) -

Moving a site in early development from CSS/HTM to PHP
Hello. I am early in the development of my latest site, which I began constructing using CSS and HTML. My pages were .htm's. After studying up on .php, I decided that i wanted this site to be in .php, so that I could do some things server side, like having secure forms for contact and etc..
So I made a new index page in .php. I copied and pasted the code from my index.htm into the index.php, and attached the CSS style sheets that I had created. So everything is displaying correctly in the new index.php, as it was in the index.htm. Can someone let me know if this is an okay practice.. a legit way of going about what I'm trying to do?
My next question revolves around hyperlinks. Is the creation of links fundamentally different in .php than in .html? I figured you could make links in the same way, by moving to html in the properties panel and turning text on the page into a link. However, when I go to view the page in a browser and try the link I made to another page in the site, and it asks me if I want to open up a file (note: I did not set up a local testing server). Do you need to set up a local testing server using MAMP (i'm on a Mac) in order for links to function properly in a .php page? Or should I be creating the links in the php code, by using the echo function?
And of course last night I was trying to set up my local testing server and was having some struggles getting it to work. I still have to figure that out, but before I ask you how to do that, I think I will try some more resources on the web, as there seems to be some videos available on that topic. And yes I did copy all the files of the site that I'd like to test to the root directory of htdocs in the MAMP application folder, I'm must just be getting some of the settings wrong in the manage sites dialogue box.
Any help/insight would be of a great help! I know this is fairly simple stuff, but thanks!So I made a new index page in .php. That's fine.
Won't make any difference to the server or the end result in browsers until the server finds some PHP script in your page to process before sending the page to browsers.
A .php extension merely tells the server to check the page for PHP script to process before delivering the page to a browser. If it finds none, nothing happens server-side. The page is simply sent to the browser.

There's no change to your normal HTML coding practices when using PHP pages. They're regular HTML pages with PHP script sprinkled through them. The script is processed by the server. End users never see it in their browsers.
Browsers understand HTML. A link is a link. Created the same as always.
PHP scripts in the page are processed by the server, then inserted in the page then delivered to the browser.
A testing server is required if you want to test PHP pages locally.
You can test by saving your pages after each edit then upload to your PHP-enabled web host then refresh your browser. It works but it can be slow.
A testing server does the same thing locally. Much quicker. -
Login to Development from Firefox 1.5.0.3??
Has anyone have problems logging into htmldb dev from FIrefox 1.5.0.3. I can log in using ssl, but when trying http:// I log in and get rediected to same page. When I use the IE tab options, it works fine using IE Rendering. Sample mod_plsql log. Is there a setting or extension screwing up the browser? Any insight would be helpful.

What should I use? - Developing from AI to Flash for Mac, iPad & Windows
Not sure if I am in the right forum so if not please let me know.
I want to develop an app to use on our Mac, Windows, and iPad systems. It would run locally and not over the internet. In short I would take template art from Illustrator files and convert to a usable flash files. The app would allow the user to change the named fields on the templates to their company name for visualizing the art. I have been doing some testing and this appears to be possible.
I am obviously new to this and trying to understand what/how to develop. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.Thanks for the help and you are correct I have not gotten into the iPad enough for any testing.
I have read that Flash is not supported and also read that it is supported on the iPad. Confused as to what this page is telling me regarding a "Packager for iPhone IOS" - http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/packagerforiphone/ and this page http://www.adobe.com/devnet/logged_in/abansod_iphone.html
Is this stuff just wishful thinking or only on iPhone or something else? Again thanks for the help.
