Running OSX 10.7.5. Updated iTunes to 11.0.1. When iPod Shuffle 2nd generation is connected, I get a message saying the media is corrupted and cannot be read.
Don't want to do a restore if I don't have to. I have another iPod Shuffle, also 2nd generation that sychs with a different Macbook running iTunes 11.0. No problems there. Is there an issue with this software update?
Reboot your computer. Temporarily disable any security software, i.e. firewall, anti-virus, anti-malware, etc.

the reset utility tells me it is intended for 32 bit windows. i run 64....what can i do to reset my ipod shuffle 2nd generation
Hey harley4550,
It sounds like you're trying to restore your shuffle to factory settings. You can actually use iTunes to do so, the following article goes over how:
Restoring iPod shuffle to factory settings

Hope that helps,

I have tried to install the software from several sites including the apple site and they all say that the software is corrupted and did not install correctly to delete and reinstall. this seems unlikely as it has been weeks since I have been retrying the sites with the same results...is there an apple download that will check my pc for any errors that may be keeping the itunes from installing.. or is there anything else i can do to fix the issue.. its unlikely that itunes could stay corrupted for so ling without noticing it and fixing the issue..thank you...
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it, which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

Hello!
I have a problem connecting my Ipod Shuffle 2nd generation to my Windows 8 based laptop. The computer doesn't recognize the Ipod and issues an error message saying 'USB device not recognized'. I tried uninstaling ITunes(latest version) and all other Apple software and reinstaling it back again, checked my USB hubs in the 'Device Manager' section of the Control Panel, you name it.
I could really use some help solving this.
I've turned to the troubleshooting section in Apple Support but it has nothing concerning situations in wich the device isn't even shown in the 'My Computer' folder.
Help a brother out, will you???Found a solution in another forum http://en.kioskea.net/forum/affich-63733-ipod-not-detected-on-computer (a few posts down).
It was for an IPOD so you can see those details in the link.
Found how to reset a shuffle and inserted it into these instructions - did not have to follow his last steps.
- Turn off computer.
- Plug Shuffle into usb.
- Then you must reset your shuffle
To reset iPod shuffle:
Disconnect iPod shuffle from the computer (if connected).
Move the switch on the iPod shuffle to the OFF position. Note that when iPod shuffle is off, the green stripe by the switch is not visible

- Start computer and it should install the usb driver for the ipod automatically.
- Your i pod will say do not unplug so don't. then open itunes and it will be there.
I did not have to do these thing below – did not get error message and shuffle was displayed in Itunes. / LMc
Just remember to not only eject ipod from itunes but stop usb.
Go to the program icons near the clock and right click the usb icon and "safely remove hardware" will appear and click it.
Stop it and select "apple ipod". -
So frustrated, I have 4 ipod shuffles 2nd generations and I can't get itunes to recognize any of them. My software is 10.6.3 I have restarted. Plugged in the ipod usb first, then docked and turned off, then turned on. Changed USB ports, made sure the software is updated. HELP!
A couple of things that worked for me.
1. Download and run Apple's iPod Reset Utility:
http://support.apple.com/downloads/iPod_Reset_Utility_1_0_3_for_Mac
2. If this gets the Shuffle visible in iTunes, go into the Settings for the iPod and enable Disk Usage. -
When attempting install of iTunes 10.5 for Windows 7 on Parallels 7, I get a message saying, "A program required to install cannot be run. Contact the package vendor or sys admin" (that's me). I completely uninstalled the previous iTunes prior to this. Any thoughts?
Try the following user tip:

I am trying to update Itunes in Windows XP but after going through the the installation process I am getting a message saying "The Older Version Update cannot be removed. Contact your technical support". What do I do???
"The Older Version Update cannot be removed. Contact your technical support".
Doublechecking before proceeding. Is it saying the older version of Apple Software Update cannot be removed, or some other program? (Several different program names can be mentioned in this context.) -
IPod Shuffle 2nd generation syncing problem with iTunes 7.3
When I updated my iTunes to iTunes 7.3, I had problem syncing my songs with my iPod shuffle 2nd generation. The error read something like "Ipod shuffle attempt to copy to disk "iPod's name" failed. An error occurred (-54)". I reverted back to iTunes 7.2 and the problem does not seem to arise anymore.
Well seems to me the only way to solve my problem was
to revert back to iTunes 7.2. I tried iPod reset
utility. restoring to default, resetting, everything
I could think of when I used iTunes 7.3 but none of
them succeeded. When I reverted to iTunes 7.2, it
worked like a charm again. Of course we would all
like the latest version of iTunes on our computers
but this problem has made me stay with iTunes 7.2 for
the moment. And does anyone feel that iTunes 7.3 is
so laggy?
Regardless of earlier comments on 7.2 vs 7.3, I think you've got something else going on with your system, iTunes 7.3 isn't laggy on my meager 2001 Dual-USB iBook G3 500MHz with 640MB running 10.3.9. -
I also get a message saying:
the feature you are trying to use is on a network that is unavailable. Click OK to try again or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the insallation package "iTunes.msi" in the box below
When I click OK, get a message daying:
(file name) cannot be found Verify that you have access to this location and try again or try to find the installation package "iTunes.msi" in a folder from which you can install the product iTunes
I have no idea what to do!! Any help??the feature you are trying to use is on a network that is unavailable. Click OK to try again or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the insallation package "iTunes.msi" in the box below
Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the thingy on the Major Geeks page):
http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select anyiTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time? -
I have a ipod shuffle (2nd generation) that won't light up when plugged in to the power adapter. I have only used it a few times since I purchased it years ago. Also, when I plug it into my computer with itunes running, it isn't recognized at all, as in nothing happens when I plug the usb cable with ipod attached and on to it. Any help would be much appreciated.
but there is another unspecified error.
What is that error?
Are you sure she has a Shuffle? You mentioned a Sad Face.. that would indicate that the iPod has a display, which a Shuffle does not.

Ipod shuffle 2nd generation not showing up in itunes
ipod shuffle 2nd generation not showing up in itunes and when in its dock blinking orange.
I believe blinking orange means the iPod shuffle is in use by the computer (in some way). That's actually good, because it means it is at least recognized as being connected to USB.
If you have not already, be sure to try shutting down the computer completely (power off), with the iPod NOT connected. Also, follow this procedure to reset the iPod shuffle.
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1655
Turn on your computer. Run iTunes. Connect the iPod shuffle. -
iTunes will no longer play my music, all the albumss are there but it if I click on a song to play it I get a message saying " The song (name of song) could not be played because the original file coul not be found. Would you like to locate it."
You get this message because iTunes can’t find the file. This can happen for a number of reasons:
The song file or a folder in its path was renamed
The song file or the folder it is in has been moved
The song file has been deleted
The device containing the song files e.g. external drive is not accessible or the drive letter has changed.
Do any of these aply to you? -
I have tried to update the operating system on my ipad several times without success. Each time it reaches 353.2mb of 353.3mb and starts to process the file. Nothing happens and then I get a message saying the network connection has timed out. The network is still connected.
Have you tried temporarily turning off your firewall and antivirus software whilst the download is happening ? A number of people on here have had success downloading it after doing so.
