Runtime MSM or MSI

The downloads page for Crystal Reports | XI Release 2 | * (at https://websmp130.sap-ag.de/sap(bD1lbiZjPTAwMQ==)/bc/bsp/spn/bobj_download/main.htm) shows three SP5 downloads:
Crystal Reports XI Release 2 - SP 5 .NET Merge Modules
Crystal Reports XI Release 2 SP 5 - .NET Server Install
Crystal Reports XI Release 2 Service Pack 5 - Windows
What we need is the runtime MSM or MSI that contains the Crystal Report Viewer CRViewer.dll file (version 11.5.11.1470) which is normally installed at C:\Program Files\Business Objects\common\3.5\crystalreportviewers115\ActiveXControls.
If anyone can point me to that redistributable/utility?
Thanks!

Hi,
Then install the second option.
The Wiki is [here|https://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/BOBJ/CrystalReportsforVisualStudio.NETRuntimeDistribution-Versions9.1to12.0] is currently the best resource for CR.NET Runtime information.

  • Deploying Crystal Reports 2008 runtimes without using MSI/MSM

We are having multiple issues with using the MSI or the Merge module to deploy the 2008 runtimes.
Specifically, one of the issues is that PrintControll.dll will not register and causes the runtime package to fail.
How can we deploy these run times w/o using the MSI or merge module??
We just upgraded from Crystal Reports 11.5 and this is becoming a burden to our project.  Are there any whitepapers on what is needed or any other instruction that may assist us in a sucessful deployment of these runtimes?

I eventually found the problem. I used depends to trace the printcontrol.dll and found that it requires msvcr71.dll to be installed in the system folder. This is a Visual C++ 7.1 (.net 2003) library. It looks like Business Objects forgot to put this into their runtime installer. That is why it works on some computers and not others. Some computers have this dll file installed as part of other software (including other crystal reports versions). I created a patch installer that basically drops this dll file into the system folder. Once that is done, then the runtime installs correctly.
If you would like to recreate this problem, try installing the CR2008 runtime (MM, EXE, or compact) on a FRESH copy of Windows. It will error out everytime.
If anyone reading this would like my patch, please send me an email.

  • Deploying Crystal Report 11.5 without using .msm or .msi

    Hi,
I am trying to deploy the Crystal 11.5 runtimes .dlls for my project.  I want to deploy the assemblies without using the merge modules or running the .msi project (the .msi and .msm files contains a lot of assemblies that my project does not require).  However, when I try to install only the .dlls that my project references, I get the following in my project when loading a report:
An error has occurred while attempting to load the Crystal Reports runtime.  Either the Crystal Reports registry key permissions are insufficient, or the Crystal Reports runtime is not installed correctly.
If someone knows how to deploy the Crystal Reports assemblies with using the merge modules or .msi,  please let me know.

    Morning Keit,
I have deployed an application about 2mins ago and I had the same problem before I added the merge files. I have found an article [http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=3129696&SiteID=1&mode=1] in a thread here. This link shows how to install the Runtime CR2008 on client machine to make things work.
I personaly thinks deploying applications using not only CR but other products as well is a nightmare, myself I prefer using web based applications as they do not need much requirements on client pc (that is if everything is pushed from the server).
The way I deployed my application is getting the appropriate dll files and added them into the application setup and also added a prerequiste of CR 2008 with Data access components 2008 (you can find this when you right click on the application setup --->properties -
    >prerequsite button.
Once I clicked CR2008 pre, it added a Runtime file into my application setup folder, I ran the application at client pcs and it is working fine.

  • Crystal Reports XI Runtime .msm Files

We have a mixed environment (VB6, .NET 2003, .NET 2005) on each of our workstations.  We require a Crystal Reports 11 runtime that will cover all of these platforms.  There are six.msm files available to build the runtime.  One is for .NET 2003, another for .NET 2005, and the remaining four are for the Report Designer Component (RDC), which will cover VB6's ActiveX:
    CrystalReports11_5_NET.msm  (for .NET 2003)
    CrystalReports11_5_NET_2005.msm
    CrystalReports11_5_RDC_Designtime.msm
    CrystalReports11_5_RDC_License.msm
    CrystalReports11_5_RDC_Reportengine.msm
    CrystalReports11_5_RDC_Runtime.msm
When we try to build a Setup project with all of these msm's included, we get the "Unable to merge data from the merge module because it conflicts with existing data in the package".  Apparently the modules are duplicated in the msm's.  With further examination, it appears that the RDC msm's include most of the runtime files in the other msm's, but not all.
So we're trying to determine how to be able to include all the required modules in the runtime.
Maybe we need to build a separate runtime package for each of the three platforms and then run all of them to get everything that we need?

Building  separate runtime packages will be the way to go. BTW, you do not need to include the CrystalReports11_5_RDC_Designtime.msm, unless your RDC app uses the report creation APIs and craxDDrt.dll.

  • CrystalReports11_5_NET_2005.msm  (in MSI format???)

Does this file exist in MSI format?
My installer (INNO) doesn't support MSM but can run an MSI via MSIEXEC.EXE.
There doesn't appear to be an MSMEXEC :-(.
I'd prefer not to have get into dark/WiX and the standard MSM2MSI converter barfs at this file. There are a number of issues with this MSM listed on the web.
    Many thanks,
    Ed

Yes, that is the most recent MSI file.

  • Deploying Crystal Reports runtime using merge module failed

    Hi,
I am having a problem when deploying Crystal Reports using merge module runtime, included into MS Visual Studio web setup project, when installing my *.msi with CR runtime on a completely clean PC (with only MS Windows installed). Error: Failed to register one of the Crystal Reportsu2019 *.dll because it could not find Microsoft visual C++ runtime (msvcr71.dll was not in Windows\System32 folder)
I am using Crystal Reports runtime merge modules, which I downloaded from here: https://websmp130.sap-ag.de/sap(bD1lbiZjPTAwMQ==)/bc/bsp/spn/bobj_download/main.htm
    I tried both cr120_mm.zip (Crystal Reports 2008) and cr121_mm.zip (Crystal Reports 2008 SP1)
cr120 could not find msvcr71.dll, cr121 could not find msvcp80.dll.
    Steps to reproduce:
    -          In MS Visual Studio 2008 create a new empty Web Setup Project.
    -          Add Crystal Reports merge module CRRuntime_12_0.msm or CRRuntime_12_1.msm
    -          Build *.msi
    -          Try to install this *.msi on a completely clean PC. I tried it on Windows Server 2003 R2 SP3, which did not have msvcr71.dll or msvcp80.dll files in C:\Windows\System32 or in any other PATH folders.
    -          During installation there is an error u2013 failed to register one of the Crystal Reportsu2019 *.dll
I am looking forward to hear from you.
    Thank you.

  • Deploy Crystal Report via ClickOnce without .msi

    Hi,
I would like to know whether it's possible to deploy Crystal Report without requiring admin rights from the installer.
My program uses many 3rd party components. Most of them very heavyweight with licensing, COM objects etc but Crystal Report is the only one that needs a .msi install. Is it possible to include Crystal Report's dll with the application? I tried it but Crystal Report failed to load at the form saying there's something wrong with the installation (I didn't "install").

Only way to distribute the CR runtime is via the MSM or MSI files. For links to the msm and msi files see [this|https://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=56787567] wiki.

  • Crystal Reports 2008 - CR Runtime 12 issue

We are developing our applications using VS 2008 and I also install the Crystal Reports 2008 developer edition. My project references all DLL's from Crystal Reports 2008 runtime (BusinessObjects\Common\4.0\Managed\dotnet2) to display CR reports in our GUI.
However, I run into following problems when we walk through the assembly dependencies (our code traverse the dependency tree):
    - The dependency on BusinessObjects.Enterprise.Sdk, Version=12.0.1100.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=692fbea5521e1304 cannot be found, which is referenced by CrystalDecisions.Enterprise.Framework
    - Some dll are reported to be using .NET 1.1 runtime (e.g. "BusinessObjects.Licensing.KeycodeDecoder.dll v1.1.4322").
Where could I find the missing dependencies?
We are targeting customer installing on .NET 2.0 framework. How could we get around those v1.1.4322 dependencies (through I believe that the Crystal Reports Runtime 12 might install those into our clients)
    Thanks
    Sai-Kit

First, I never DIRECTLY reference those .NET 1.1 DLL's in my project.
    - understood and expected
The CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.dll however will try to load them as dependencies when my application is run. There is no way not to referencing CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.dll.
    - no the CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.dll ; will not try to load those assemblies. You can remove those assemblies from GAC. Your app will work just fine. I recommend you try this once you have removed the assemblies from your project..
We need to deploy the application to our customer. If they only install .NET 2.0, they will ask why .NET 1.1 dll are installed into their computer (of course, as part of CR 12 runtime instead of our application). Also, why CR 10.5 is .NET 1.1 clean and CR 12 goes back to .NET 1.1??? My customer will have that concern after their upgrade.
    - As I mentioned twice now. The CR runtime (msm and / or msi files) do not install those assemblies. So your customer will not even get them installed. I recommend you try the install on a clean computer to see what actually gets installed.

  • Microsoft Jscript runtime error: Object expected

I have a Visual Studio 2005 web application that uses a Crystal Viewer to display reports developed in XI. When I run the application on my development PC, I get no error, even with the debug turned on in IE7.  When I run the application on my PC, using the web server address  and click on the drop down to select the parameter, I get an error that says; u201CMicrosoft Jscript runtime error: Object expectedu201D.  Both my development PC and the code published on the web server use the fully qualified report path down to the webserver name.  No problem on my development PC running in Visual Studio, but a problem accessing the server.  The onClick portion is the highlighted area is where the debug  stops.  This is code that is created from crystal.  Originally, I was getting an error; 'Load Report Failed', but once I used the full path name of the report down the the webserver name, that error disappeared. I have XI installed on the web server and I can open and run the reports there.  What am I missing on the web server?  Thanks.

That would be the CR Service Pack located here:
    https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/012002523100006255422008E/crxir2_sp4_inc.exe
You will then have to ensure that the same runtime is on the server. Use the msm or msi files from here:
    http://resources.businessobjects.com/support/communityCS/FilesAndUpdates/crxir2sp4_net_merge_modules.zip
    https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/012002523100009657852008E/crxir2sp4_net_si.zip
I'd recommend the msi as it does not require you to build a deployment project. Ensure that you uninstall the current CR runtime on the server. Also, once that is done, check to make sure that the c:\program files\business objects directory is removed. Then install the CR runtime using the above msi file.

  • "Graphics Location" functionality not working in CR2008, using SP1 Runtime

I'm using Crystal Reports 2008 SP1 (BuildVersion=12.1.0.883.CR_Mira_RTM). In some of my reports I'm setting the graphic location to a web address. On my development machine this all works fine.
On my production server I've installed the SP1 Runtime Version (CRRuntime_12_1_mlb.msi)
and am running the reports via a Dot Net application. The images are not updating with the image from the web location.
If I then install Crystal Reports 2008 SP1 on that machine, without making any other changes, the images start to update with the image from the web location.
Can anybody tell me which DLL is being used to grab the image from the web so I can include it in my deployment package? Or can somebody tell me how to get the Graphic Location functionality to work with the Runtime version.
NOTE: During installation of the Runtime version, it prompts me for a Product ID. I can install the runtime if I leave it blank. I've tried that. I also tried just putting garbage in there and the error message comes back saying it's an invalid product KEY. So I've installed using my Crystal Reports 2008 Product key as well. Still no luck.
    help is appreciated

The product key is not coming into play I this case. Having said that, I am not sure what the issue may be, however you may be able to track down the dll by using the following utilities:
    1) Modeules.exe, which can be downloaded from here:
    https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/012002523100006252802008E/modules.zip
    2) Process Monitor, which can be downloaded from here:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-ca/sysinternals/bb896645.aspx
Modules will allow you to compare the dlls on a server that has CRW32.exe and a system that had only the runtime. Process Monitor, may report a missing dll in it's logs.
Now, while it may be useful to find out the above, this being a web app typically means you need to install it on a limited number of servers, possibly just one? Since it is working now, it may be worth considering the ROI on figuring out the runtime(?). E.g.; it may not be worth the effort? If licensing is the worry, simply delete the CRW32.exe and you've eliminated the issue.

  • Request could not be submitted for background processing

    Using Crystal Reports XI R2
    <br />Using Visual Studio .NET 2005
    <br />
<br />Here's the scenario.  The client goes to run a report and specifies the filters they want for the report.  We load a pre-built rpt with no saved data and pass the filters in to the report via the parameters.  We then generate and export the report to another rpt file with saved data using the PULL method from the report itself.  When the viewer wants to view the report the file (with saved data) is copied locally to the web server and the CrystalReportViewer control is pointed at the rpt with the saved data in it.  In almost every case the reports come up fine and display in the viewer no problem.  The error above (Request could not be submitted for background processing) tends to show itself in the CrystalReportViewer control whenever the report has large amounts of data (like 8 megs worth).  I've tried everything I can find on this issue including the steps listed in the white paper for this issue.
    <br />
<br />So just to be clear on the steps taken:
<br />1)If I take the saved rpt and open it in Crystal Reports itself then it works fine.
<br />2)If I point to the rpt with the CrystalReportViewer control in my development environment it works fine.
<br />3)I've run Process Monitor and there were a couple of access denied messages to one of the HKLM registry keys but I modified the permissions so those went away but the problem still remained
<br />4)As far as I can tell the report has no design issues.  Nothing runs over any edges, no overlapping of any kind, the Font itself exists on the machine in question.
<br />5)Its not a dataset problem since the report is using the PULL method to generate itself plus the rpt with saved data is correctly generated its just showing the above error when trying to view it in the control.
<br />6)The client is using a WIndows 2003 server, with 4 Quad Core processors and 8 gigs of RAM and 100 gigs of hard drive space remaining (so hardware is not an issue)
<br />7)In code the ReportDocument object is inside a using statement (C# .NET) and only exist for the brief period needed to create the rpt with saved data.  So they are getting closed and disposed of correctly.  Also as pointed out above the rpt with saved data is already being generated correctly its just not displaying in the control.
    <br />
<br />So to recap on a web server used by multiple people whenever a user tries to view a saved rpt file that has a large amount of data using the CrystalReportViewer control the error above tends to get generated even though the vast majority of the reports do display.  I'm at a loss for what else to try to make the report display correctly in the control.  Any thoughts would be helpful.

Make sure you are using SP6:
    https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/012002523100015859952009E/crxir2win_sp6.exe
    Runtime
    msm:
    https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/012002523100000634042010E/crxir2sp6_net_mm.zip
    msi:
    https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/012002523100000633302010E/crxir2sp6_net_si.zip
Other than that, I'd consider installing the CR designer - as a test, on the user machine and see if the designer can open the report.
