RV220W Max DHCP Users (Max Connections) per Vlan

We assign (reserve by MAC actually) static IPs to all of our devices. Over time we have gotten rid of some devices but haven't begun (or finished really) re-using the old IPs. On our WRVS4400N v2 routers we are able to set the max number of DHCP users per Vlan. This prevents unauthorized devices trying to connect to our LAN.
For example. I set the range from 192.168.1.100 - 192.168.1.103. IPs 100, 101, and 103 are in use (reserved via MAC address). We set max number of DHCP users to 3. This prevents someone from gaining access to 192.168.1.102. Does this make sense? Or at least this was the initial goal and it tested out successfully back when we implemented it.
How can I do the same for with the RV220W? I can set the range, assign static IPs (reserve IPs by MAC address), but can't keep others from gaining accessing to our LAN via the unused IPs (not assigned a static IP).
My initial thought was to create static IPs (for the unused IPs) using dummy MAC addresses. I'm sure there is a much better way of accomplishing what I am trying to do.

I still want to use the DHCP server because we don't configure the IPs in the devices. I shouldn't have mentioned static IPs. That was bad word choice on my part. We reserve IPs by MAC address in the router, then usually set the maximum number of DHCP users in the router. The RV220W seems to only allow start and end IPs addresses.

Server 2008 R2 RDP: limit max number of rdp connections per user group?

Hello everyone,
I have a Windows Server 2008 R2 with RDP installed.
I want to create a couple of user groups which will have 5 different users in each. Then I would like to limit RDP connections, let's say 2 connections for the first group and 3 connections for the second group. For example, if 2 users from Group 1 are connected
then when a 3rd user from Group 1 tries to connect it will be rejected to connect, but 3 users from Group 2 still can connect. Is it doable?

How to restrict max number of client connection per extend server?

Does anybody point me or tell me what is the vm property or config element I need to put so that an extend client will not accept more than specified number of connections at any give point in time.

Network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server keeps reverting to user set 4

I didn't used to have this problem as far as I'm aware, but as of recently, I've noticed that if I try to download more than 4 of one thing at a time from the same site, it would fail. For instance, if I have up 5 web pages of streaming content, only 4 will load, the other 5th one will do nothing until I finish one of the others. Upon looking up some information on this, I saw that the network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server is set at "user set = 4", and if I change that number to anything else, it corresponds. If I click to 'reset' the number, it goes to the default of 6 - which is still less than what it used to be. I used to not even have a limit on this as far as I'm aware, or if I did, it was well beyond 10 and that wasn't a product of me manipulating it.
What I'm asking is this:
1) How do I make this so it permanently switches to a higher number? Every time I reset it to 6 or I manually change the number to something higher, once I close it, those settings go back to 4.
2) Why is it reverting and not staying the way I change it?
3) What's the purpose of this and why is it just recently doing it when I haven't put any new add-ons or made any other refinements to Firefox that I'm aware of?

Two possible causes for it resetting to 4 that I can think of.
# You have an add-on handing that pref and that is resetting it to 4 when Firefox is restarted.
# That pref is set via user.js and that causes it to go to that value as Firefox starts.

Increasing max-streaming-connections-per-session has slow acknowledge response?

Our application is a Flex GUI with a WebLogic Server (BlaseDS) on a private network. We were originally using IE 6, but have upgraded to IE 8.
I am trying to use publish/subscribe messaging to monitor lengthy processes on the server and received incremental data. With 1 such process everything works fine. But we want to allow the user to subscribe to more than 1 message destination. So I increased the "max-streaming-connections-per-session" (default is 1) in the services-config.xml file

If we leave max-streaming-connections-per-session as the default value of 1 and try to subscribe to another message destination we get an error indicating limit has been reached:
     [BlaseDS]Endpoint with id 'process-notification-streaming-amf' cannot grant streaming connection to FlexClient with id '7FFC82DE-etc ' because max-streaming-connections-per-session limit of '1' has been reached.
     We upgraded to IE8 as documentation indicates IE8 allows for an increase of max-streaming-connections-per-session, where IE 6 is limited to 1. But increasing max-streaming-connections-per-session does not quite solve the problem. We have 3 consumers; consumer1, consumer2, consumer3. For each of these consumers, we add event listeners for MessageAckEvent.ACKNOWLEDGE and MessageEvent.MESSAGE.
     We call consumer1.subscribe(). When we receive the acknowledge message, we call consumer2.subscribe() (likewise with consumer3)
     The problem is it takes over 2 minutes to receive the acknowledge message from the call to consumer1.subscribe(). (With max-streaming-connections-per-session set to 1, the acknowledge message is received in a few seconds.)
     So, increasing max-streaming-connections-per-session removes the error about reaching a limit, but it appears to come with a cost of a big delay in a long delay on the call to subscribe? Or is there something we are missing?

I guess I will answer my own question. Hopefully this will be useful to someone else in the future...
The problem was coming from IE being limited to 1 connection by the registry. The solution can be found at:

I manually performed the steps to update the registry, though microsoft provides a "Fix It"; MicrosoftFixit50098.msi
One other key element was to make sure to have kickstart-bytes="2048".

Max-streaming-connections-per-session limit

i'm trying BlazeDS with Air app.
I set blazeDs on a Jboss Server with JMS adapter.
I configure it with a streamingAMF channel.
In user agent configuration i put msie, firefox value to 10 for the max-streaming-connections-per-session limit param.
In Air client configuration i instantiate a producer and a consumer on the same streaming AMF channel.
After the consumer.subscribe() i launch the producer.connect() on the server i get this error :

Is it a limitation of use of blazeDs with Air app ?

First, if you change the limit to 10, then it should be 10 and not 1. If you still see 1, then please log a bug.
Second, you really want this limit to be 1 in IE and 4 in Firefox 2. But there's no reason to have more than 1 streaming connection from the server to the client unless you need to talk to two different endpoints.

Max streaming connections per session error

I have a flex application that uses messaging with a streaming AMF connection, falling back to polling. When the max number of streaming connections on the server is reached, it does fall back to polling (at least it prints the max-streaming-clients error but the client connects, so I assume it is falling back - how can I tell?). However, occasionally the streaming connection will not initialize and it does not fall back - no messages are received on the client. The following error is logged on the server:
[EMST]09/25/2008 13:43:18.231 [ERROR] Endpoint with id 'my-streaming-amf' cannot grant streaming connection to FlexClient with id 'D5B8E3A1-1A1C-063E-84A6-6A743A1E4EE0' because max-streaming-connections-per-session limit of '1' has been reached.
This would make sense if the issue was caused by trying to initialize the streaming connection in two tabs of a browser, but I am only trying to initialize in one tab. Closing the browser (and thus destroying the session) does not fix it. The only solution I've found is to reboot the client machine. This has happened in both FireFox 3.0.2 and IE 7.
(1) What could cause the client to get in this state?
(2) When it happens, why doesn't it fall back to polling? Is the fallback only for when the server max connections is reached? When the streaming connection doesn't initialize, no messages are received.
(3) Is there a way to explicitly close the streaming connection on the client so we can fix this without rebooting?

Hi Mary. If you turn on Debug level logging on the client and the server you should be able to tell if you have fallen back to a polling channel after the attempt to connect over the streaming channel has been rejected. In the client log, you will see the flex application sending poll requests to the server at the polling interval configured in the channel and in the server log you should see that the server is receiving these requests.
The behaviour you are seeing seems very strange to me. The reason we have the max-streaming-connections-per-session limit on the server is because most browsers limit the number of active connections that can be made to a server from a single session. In IE for example, this is 2. What happens in most cases when the browser's connection limit is reached is that new connections are put on hold until one of the existing connections closes. This would cause your flex application to hang with no errors being reported on the client or the server. This is why we need the max-streaming-connections-per-session setting on the server. This prevents more than one persistent connection from being made from the same session, so the browser should never reach it's max connections per server limit and lock up.
It looks like you are somehow getting the browser to lock up even though the server is only limiting you to one streaming connection per session. It may be possible to do this if you reload the flex application in the browser (by doing a page refresh) in which case the browser could possibly briefly leave the streaming connection open in the background and when you tried to create a new streaming connection, the browser's connection limit to the server would have been reached and the application could hang. When the application hangs are you reloading the swf/page in the browser?
I really don't know why closing the browser wouldn't fix the problem. You're right that closing the browser should end the session. If you launch a new browser and load the swf do you get the same "cannot grant streaming connection" error on the server or is the browser just locked up, ie. no error is received on the client and the server?
You're not using a proxy server or anything like that are you that might be holding a connection open to the server?

In case of a brand new setup (with no information about the number of concurrent users), you need to start with a reasonable value and revise if needed.

I am trying to connect to wireless router using WEP. I have configured the access point and when I try to connect with Opera Mobile 3.6 an error occurs:
Max. Number of connections in use. Close na active connection first.
Note that my phone is not woring in dual mobe but GSM only.

Every time you up-date the firmware, you get from your network opperator the settings for various access points (Internet, MMS, Vodafone Live, whatever....) This leads to duplicates (or even mode) access-points. Moreover, some of these access points are saved as "default" access point in various applications. This is where the mess starts.
To clean-up the mess, you first have to REMOVE all duplicate access points and keep only one access point for each purpose: Internet connection, MMS, Live (if you are are on Vodafone), etc. After this, you will probably get messages from various applications to define a new default access point. And things will be sorted our automatically.
Hope this helps, even though it might not be simple for some.

Like Jay had mentioned the limitation on the number of connection to server depends on the capability of your server.
You can get the maximum number of connections made to the server, number of active clients... etc details through Administration APIs.
'getServerStats' gives you the "total_connects", which is the maximum number of connections made to the server. "connected" property will return the number of active clients to your server at one point. It also has many more statistics for your reference. This api returns the overall information of the server. If you want to get the details for specific vhost, you can use getVHostStats or getActiveVHostStats. To get more details on Administration API, refer your pdf documentation on "Administration API", that gets installed in your system under "$Root\Flash Media Server\documentation\flashmediaserver_3.5_administrationAPI.pdf".

DataSource max number of open connections

We are using Oracle 9i AS.
We are using the pre installed emulated data source.
We have specified 30 and 100 as the min and max number of open connections.
We are using BC4J application modules in my application . For each application module we have specified the JDBC data source, so the default connection pooling at the Application Module level is disabled, via doConnectonPooling = true.
The question :
1. When i go into the OC4J Home screen and monitor the Open JDBC connections, why is the number more than the max that i have specified ? My data source is being used , because my app is up and running.

Chints -- There were a few cases that where max connections was not honored prior to the Oracle9ias v903 release. These issues should be fixed in the Oracle9iAS v903 production release.

Connections per user

I have a WAVE 474 running v4.2.3. I see 20-30 connections per user, with several to the same host and sequential ports. Ex. x.x.x.y:56678, 56679, 56680.. to 56685 going to x.x.x.z:3456...3480. Is this correct? I am running out of TFO connections on this box and am not sure what is going on. I have 3 other sites with 474's and the connections/user appear to be much lower.

This type of behavior is usually indicative of a virus or maybe a security scanner of sorts on your network.
The fact that WAAS is optimizing the flows and taking up TFO resources is unfortunate, but there is not much you can do from a WAAS perspective to stop these PC's from consuming your TFO resources.
An interim work around would be to use a WCCP redirect list or an inline interception ACL (whichever is applicable to that site) and bypass those IPs completely from WAAS interception.
However, the long term solution would be resolving the virus/ disabling the security scanner.

Max number of TCP connections to one IP?

Is there any limit, imposed by the TCP protocol, to the number of active connections to one IP address on one interface?
I'm asking this because it's easy to add more servers behind a load balancer, but I wonder if the TCP protocol limits in some fundamental way the number of connections to the load balancer itself.
Let's say there's an ACE 4710 load balancer in front of a bunch of Web servers. The balancer exposes one IP address to the clients on the public network. The connections are forwarded to the Web servers on the private network. The balancer is also doing NAT: the servers see the connections originating on a private IP on the load balancer.
On the client side, each connection is uniquely identified by the quartet (source IP, source port, dest IP, dest port). So as long as each client only creates one connection, I think the limit here is just the amount of RAM on the load balancer.
On the server side, same thing, each connection is identified by the same quartet, so I guess the theoretical limit here is 64k connections per server, due to the limit imposed by the source port numbers on the load balancer.
OTOH, if the load balancer is not doing NAT (the servers see the connections originating on the public IPs of the clients), then there should be no limit imposed by the TCP protocol.
Is that right? Comments?

1 connection per user using Tomcat?

Hi all, I've created a connection pool on Tomcat 5 and during testing realised that I couldn't run more than 1 query to my web app i.e. I opened up multiple windows and ran each query at the same time. Is there any way (out of interest) of setting up the connection pool so that a user can be assigned more than 1 connection if they so wish?

Usually a connection is retrieved from a pool when a transaction is performed.
This means that one connection is associated with one transaction not a user:
1) user logins
2) Get Connection
3) carry out a transaction
4) return connection to pool
5) Get Connection
6) carry out a transaction
7) return connection to pool
8) user logs out
You seem to be giving each user a connection which will lead to the issues you are having:
1) user logins
2) get connection
3) carries out a transaction
4) carries out another transaction
5) user logs out
6) return connection to pool

WLC 5508 Flexconnect dhcp request landing on wrong vlan/dhcp pool

We've recently setup our 5508 to work with Flexconnect. The 5508's run on 8.0.100, they are setup redundant. On the remote site we've setup a local dhcp pool for the various WLAN's/VLAN's. The AP's have registered with the WLC succesfully.
We then setup the flexconnect groups, added the ap's and configured 1 vlan mapping to it's corresponding wlan id. Alsio setup the wlan, made it so it's using flexconnect, bound it to the interface which will allow it to reach the local dhcp machine.
User can see the SSID, can login using the password, but they are awarded an ip addres from a different dhcp pool, meant for antoher vlan than the bonding in the flexconnect group is indicating.
When I check the local dhcp pool for bindings on the mac address of a machine I can see multiple bindings. At 1 point I had 3 bindings in different pools, 1 on the native vlan for the AP, 1 on the vlan it should have and 1 on another vlan which wasn't configured anywhere in the flexconnect setup.
Does anybody have a clue how and why this is happening?

Just to add to Salma... All your AP's in FlexConnect are most likely connected to a trunk port. Make sure the native Vlan is defined and the vlan's are allowed on the trunk port. Then you need to verify that the AP's native Vlan and WLAN to Vlan mappings are correct. Seems like you might have some AP's that are not defined properly and that's why users that connect to a WLAN is getting in the wrong subnet.
