Safari and Chikka java applet

Hi,
I am using chikka applet where you can find at www.chikka.com I can access it and it will load using firefox browser but not on safari...the workflow is:
www.chikka.com - mac users - launch javalite - then nothing happens (safari)
same workflow using firefox, it will ask me towards the end, certificate (trust or dont trust), when I click trust, the applet will load....but not in the case of safari. What do you think guys is the problem here?? help please...thanks...

Hmmm.
Java issues can be a "bugga" as they say in the Islands.
Java has a cache file, which you can clear. Do so by going to the Utilities folder>Java>J2SE 5.0 and removing any items in the cache. Also, select preferences in the Java menu. My panel looks like this:
Make sure your panel shows Java J2SE 5.0 at the top of the list (you can drag it there). Also, if Java 1.4.2 is installed in your system (Utilities folder>Java), open Java 1.4.2 Plugin Settings.app and click on the Cache panel>View. There you can remove any cache items.
Restart the computer/Safari.
If no go, post back and I'll give specific instructions for removing/reinstalling Java.

  • Java Control Panel wont open at all and any Java Applets crash web browsers

    Hello,
I recently installed a fresh fully updated copy of Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, and I have not for the life of me been able to get Java working at all. Java version is the latest JRE 6U31. I only have Internet Explorer 9 installed but I doubt it is a browser issue since I cannot even open the Java control panel. I have tried using the 32 bit version of Java, and the 64 bit. Anytime I try to open the Java control panel with either 32 bit or 64 bit, I get an error message (click link below to view error message):
    http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h204/gobigjeff/Java%20Error/javaerror.png
I can only bring up the Java Control Panel using the command “javaws –viewer” . Anytime I try to load a web page with a Java applet in either 64 bit or 32 bit, it freezes and crashes. I am running Internet Explorer 9 and have tried both the 32 bit and 64 bit browser versions. I saw Java’s recommendation to only use the 32 bit version so I have mainly been trying to get the 32 bit version working 1st, with no success. I have tried ALL of the following steps, and have done some exhaustive research on this problem. It seems others have had this issue as well, with no solution to be found:
    •     Uninstalled and reinstalled only Java 32 bit JRE 6u31 multiple times (Used Javara and reg cleaner to remove all old Java traces)
    •     Uninstalled and reinstalled only Java 64 bit JRE 6u31 (Used Javara and reg cleaner to remove all old Java traces)
    •     Uninstalled and reinstalled bit JRE 7 (Used Javara and reg cleaner to remove all old Java traces)
    •     Used SFC /scannow in safe mode to verify Windows files
    •     Ran spyware and virus scan with no issues detected
    •     Added all java processes to windows firewall
I am out of solutions here. If anyone has had this problem with Java or knows what I need to do to fix the problem your advice would be greatly appreciated. I don’t think reinstalling windows is the solution because this is a fresh install.

I figured it out. I changed the installation folder to C:/Java and it finally worked!

  • I have a Mac running OS X 10.6.8 and have installed all updates and disabled Java Applets.  Do I need to put virus protection on this computer and, if so, any recommendations?

I have a Mac running OS X 10.6.8 and have installed all updates and have disabled Java Applets.  Do I need to install antivirus software and, if so, do you have a recommendation on what works best.

Mac OS X versions 10.6.7 and later have built-in detection of known Mac malware in downloaded files. The recognition database is automatically updated once a day; however, you shouldn't rely on it, because the attackers are always at least a day ahead of the defenders. In most cases, there’s no benefit from any other automated protection against malware.
The most effective defense against malware is your own intelligence. All known malware that affects a fully-updated installation of Mac OS X 10.6 or later takes the form of trojans, which can only work if the victim is duped into running them. If you're smarter than the malware attacker thinks you are, you won't be duped. That means, primarily, that you never install software from an untrustworthy source. How do you know a source is untrustworthy?
Any website that prompts you to install a “codec,” “plug-in,” or “certificate” that comes from that same site, or an unknown site, merely in order to use the site, is untrustworthy.
A web operator who tells you that you have a “virus,” or that anything else is wrong with your computer, or that you have won a prize in a contest you never entered, is trying to commit a crime with you as the victim.
“Cracked” versions of commercial software downloaded from a bittorrent are likely to be infected.
Software with a corporate brand, such as Adobe Flash Player, must be downloaded directly from the developer’s website. No intermediary is acceptable.
Disable Java (not JavaScript) in your web browser(s). Few websites have Java content nowadays, so you won’t be missing much. This setting is mandatory in Mac OS X 10.5.8 or earlier, because Java in those versions has bugs that make it unsafe to use on the Internet. Those bugs will probably never be fixed, because those older operating systems are no longer being maintained by Apple. Migrate to a newer version of the Mac OS as soon as you can.
Follow these guidelines, and you’ll be as safe from malware as you can reasonably be.
Never install any commercial "anti-virus" products for the Mac, as they all do more harm than good. If you need to be able to detect Windows malware in your files, use ClamXav — nothing else.

  • Newbie Q: Does Portal allow StyleSheets and imbedded Java Applets

    Hi All,
Thanks for your time toi read my post.
We currently have a requirement to store Military Operations Analysis data for our simulation studies. Our broad requirements cover:
1, Storing and presenting country data including sub catergories such as: Current Government; Military Orders of Battle; Base Locations and details etc. Basically organised document relation storage.
2, Storing and presenting detailed platform data (aircraft, ships etc) down to the individual field level, including sub system data such as senor and weapon system details. This needs to be done in such a way that our Visual and Analysis sub systems can extract specific fields of data from the Database (such as ranges, fuel loads etc). At the "Portal" level it just needs a nice user interface to enter in this large amount of data aswell as view it nicely.
With the country data we wish to enter data in at the sub catergory level. Such that the document included will only detail information about that sub catergory such as demographics. We then need a way to display this information based in a template or style sheet, when displayed overviews can be seen. An example might be for a country overview template we may define for the HTML page to show:
+ top left of the page has the country map (image)
+ top right the text of the country
+ First 10 lines are on the government, (with a more button to see the whole document)
+ Next 10 lines are military power, (with a more button to see the whole document)
    + etc.
For the detail platform data we need some nice GUIs to enter in these moderately large amounts of data (approxmately 30 fields per sub system, ~3-7 sub systems to a platform). Perhaps some tabbed layouts using Java widgets or Dynamic HTML to ease the viewing and entering of the data. From our trials with WebDB, using HTML forms did not work at all.
Given your knowledge of Oracle Portal, how hard is to generate dynamic HTML as per the ideals for the country data and are Java inserts fairly easy to acheive working with the Oracle database backend?
    Thanks for your time,
A direct email would be appreciated aswell as posting to the group.

  • Drap and Drop between MS-Word and a Java-Applet

    Hi,
i've read that it is possible to drag a text in an applet and to drop it on a word document. Somebody know if it is possbile to do it the other way round ? To drag a text within a word document and to drop it on an applet.
    thanks a lot

How about dragging text from Word and dropping on JTextArea? Check the source of VietPad (http://sourceforge.net/projects/vietpad) for a working example.

  • Cannot load java applets in Safari

I have several accounts on my machine. In one, the one I use most of the time, Safari will not load java applets. I have checked preferences and compared with those set on the other accounts. They are the same, including enabling javva and javascript. I have removed the Safari plist. I have repaired permissions. I have reset safari, cleared history and caches, used Cocktail to clear caches. I have rebooted.
I set up a new test account and it works fine.
What's going on, and how do I cure it?

I will try the pram reset, though I am not confident of it since this problem affects only one account.
On the new account business. I note that when I set up a new account, before I launch safari, there are no files in the Library related to Safari. They are created on the first launch. If I delete them all, then they are recreated on another launch. What if, in the affected user directory, I exported the bookmarks and/or dragged the bookmarks file to the desktop. Then deleted all evidence of safari from the account. I should now have, in effect, a virgin install of safari. Launching it would create all of the necessary files and directories. If safari works with java applets, or does not, I can simply move the bookmarks back in and be no worse off than I was in the beginning.
Any serious fault with that? I am working at home today so cannot do this until I am in the office on Monday.

  • Tab jumping Java applet window.

I get a problem on my site (very much in the early stages and a work in progress. I have put a navigational menu bar in Java on the site which you can find at: http://matrix.netsoc.tcd.ie/~64ndhi/64ndhi.html. If you use any tabbed browser such as Firefox, Mozilla 1.8b2, Camino or Opera (not Safari though) then open another tab the window shows up in all open tabs. I got the code largely from a site offering trial versions of such windows, but I don't know what to do to correct it. Any help would be much appreciated. I'm sure I'm missing the obvious. If needed I can post the code inline. Unfortunately I'm not on the computer where I created it.
    Thanks,
    Jon

Gekko derived browsers and any java applet don't mix well with multiple tabs. (Firefox also has odd behaviour wrt closing the java console on OS X). These are known bugs.
The applet on http://matrix.netsoc.tcd.ie/~64ndhi/ also throws a security exception.
If all you want is a site menu, use JavaScript and CSS rather than Java; applets generally work better in their own popup window where there's something more akin to an interactive application that requires the extra capabilities.

  • Java Applet Constantly Asks for Authentication

With have a ADF application on Weblogic 10 that has occasional access to a Java applet. The Java applet is loaded whenever it's needed and not loaded whenever it isn't in a facet. The applet is currently in the public_html/applet folder.
When we set the SSL configuration to requiring a client certificate, when the Java applet loads, it'll constantly ask for a client certificate even though the user already presented the client when hitting the website:
Request Authentication Identification required. Please select certificate to be used for authentication.
This is annoying to users and the Java Applet doesn't need authentication. Is there any way we can disable the authentication or remove the prompt?
    Here's the embedded applet code:
    <applet height="1" width="1" code="applet.Applet.class"archive="/app/applet/SApplet.jar" /><param name="permissions" value="all-permissions"/></applet>
    Things I've already tried:
    1) Setting the Applet up on HTTP instead of HTTPS; I get a warning about mixed content and still get the authentication pop-up.
    2) Created a minimal applet that only types out "HELLO WORLD" in the console, still get the authentication pop-up
    Here's the console window:

  • Forms for Web: To Java Applet or Not To Java Applet?

As I understand it, the only way to get a forms application onto the Web is to utilize the forms server and the Java Applet UI client. I was wondering if people had any issues with the fact that the only deployment method is a Java Applet? Have any of you avoided forms because of this? Are there any options for getting forms into HTML?
    Thanks in advance,

    Any suggestions?

    Yeah, me too here.
I Had to force-quit Safari 4.0 for the first time also, with the spinning pizza ball.
It loaded at first and hic-upped a little first then I just got the spinner.
That page is dangerous, some bad coding there, for sure.
I have been to many other pages, with flash and many with animated gif's and have had no problems what so ever.
And, Otherwise, the new Safari and that Java Release 9 has been behaving fine for me.

  • Java 1.5.09/10 Java Applet on Vista - starts but never downloads files

We are attempting to test a java 1.5.07 compiled and signed Java applet with Windows Vista (from MSDN).
Logged in as an administrator on the client PC, we installed the 1.5.09 and the 1.5.10 JRE on the client.
We then changed the html of the applet page to specifiy the new plugin version so it matched the JRE installed on the client.
When we start up IE7, point to our HTML applet page, and attempt to download (cache) our applet, the default Java plugin graphic with the progress bar onthe bottom shows up, but no progress is ever made.
Taking a look at the Java console with full debugging turned on, we don't see any activity. When I dumped the classloader list, it only shows the codebase string, but no classes are actually loaded.
I thought that maybe a popup window (asking to verify the certificate) might have popped up and was hidden by another window, but that's not the case. It never appears.
Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions? I can certainly attempt to capture more debug if someone can point me in the right direction!
    Thanks!

Ok, some more info - and this gets interesting!
The server is located in a DMZ here at work. (We have offshore teams in russia who are developing and testing code)
It seems to be an issue with the internal firewall/DMZ here at work.
We moved the codebase to a machine that is locally located (not in a DMZ) and presto, the applet begins to download.
When I find out more information, I'll post in case anyone else comes across a similar concern/issue. It may be the firewall/router vendor?!?

  • Help with java applets

Ok i know i haven't read the applet tutorial or had much experience with applets but just hear me out and see if you can help me.
    BACKGROUND
Ok...so i have previously viewed an applet on windows viewing an html file on my computer. I am trying to view just the most simple applet (helloworld) on linux. I'm using Ubuntu linux, the latest version as of February 23, 2006.I created an applet file and an html file in the same directory with the html file having an <applet> tag in it linking to the HelloWorldApp. I have tried viewing the html file and the java applet won't load. Everything other than the applet worked and I'm just stuck.
So my plea is would somebody please just paste the bare minimum html file and applet file that you can see an applet with? I want to learn about applets and will do the tutorial but I would really like to just see one.
    Please help,
    A frustrated applet noob
    p.s.
According to java.com I have installed JRE 5.0 and i have compiled a java application so I'm pretty sure I have successfully installed JDK 5.0.

Bob, what web browser are you using?
Make sure that the browser supports Java applets.
If you want just to debug your applet try appletviewer utility
    from JDK first.
