Safari & my bank website

Hello all! Brand new to the Mac world (got a Mini over the weekend). So far it's been great - but I have one issue..
My bank's website seems to have issues w/ Safari. While I would get the "can't find on server" msgs occasionaly - and I got both Firefox & Google Chrome & had same results w/ the bank site (and much prefer Safari as a browser so far).
At this point, I find that my bank website DOES load in Safari - but it take FOREVER. Any suggestions? As to OS & whatnot - I am on the latest Snow Leopard & believe my Safari is up to date. Not much more specific info to give - not on the Mac right now (posting from lowly work PC, which however DOES open my bank site in IE just fine) - but if future replies ask for more details, they will be given as needed.
Thanks in advance for any advice - despite this one issue, I am extremely happy to get out from under Windows.

HI and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
From the Safari Menu Bar click Safari/Preferences and select the Autofill tab.
Click the Edit button next to Other forms. Delete your bank site url then click Done. Relaunch Safari.
If that doesn't help, From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset.
Go here for trouble shooting 3rd party plugins or input managers which might be causing the problem. Safari: Add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
Since you are running Snow Leopard, *make sure Safari is opening in 32-bit mode, not 64*. Right or control click the Safari icon in the Applications folder, then click: Get Info In the Get Info window click the black disclosure triangle next to General so it faces down. Select 32 bit mode. Also, (in that same window) *make sure Safari is NOT running in Rosetta.*

Web pages now include a small icon or 'favicon' which is visible in the address bar and next to bookmarks. These icons take up disk space and slow Safari down. It is possible to erase the icons from your computer and start fresh. *To delete Safari's icon cache using the Finder, open your user folder, navigate to ~/Library/Safari/ and move this file "webpageIcons.db to the Trash.*
bpageIcons.db to the Trash.*
Relaunch Safari.
Just so you are aware, some banking institutions will not allow customers to save their usernames and passwords. It depends on the site itself. (Applications/Utilities) Keychain Access is where your usernames and passwords are stored.
Go back to Safari/Preferencs and selec the Autofill tab again. If you want your usernames and passwords stored in Keychain Access select: User names and passwords in that pane.

I just started having an issue with my bank website working properly. They have told me it is because of the last safari upgrade. Is this being resolved?

You might want to consider "voting with your feet" and taking your business to another bank.  When they tell you the upgrade is the problem, it is really their problem and not yours.  If you don't want to do that, the suggestion that you try another browser is absolutely correct.

  • Safari and my bank website

    hello,
I am currently using a OS X 10.4.2 (up to date as of saturday september 24) on my 1.8ghz imac. whenever i try to log into my bank website to check my balance, each time i do so, i am told "Your current session has expired. Press the 'Exit' button above to exit. NOTE: This may be caused by reloading or resizing your browser window.  Some browsers do not support window resizing in a secure session."
this happens everytime i try to log into my online bank account. i used to be able to log in previous to using tiger (been using tiger a week after it came out) but since the upgrade, the above message is all i get. using camino, firefox, icab, shiira and omniweb log me in just fine. i have not messed with safari settings, nor have i resized my browser window at all (or at any time).
anyone have an idea whats going on? i would love to get this problem corrected as i am military and in the field 4 days out of each week and need to have 24 hour access to my account for day to day business and for emergency situations. is anyone else experiencing this problem?

    Hi Ryan,
is anyone else experiencing this problem?
Who is the bank in question? Since I'm not based in the US it's unlikely I'll be able to help but at least other posters can confirm/deny they are having problems with your bank.

  • Safari won't display a Bank website properly -

When Safari loads this Chinese Bank website - https://mybank.icbc.com.cn/icbc/perbank/index.jsp
(BTW my Mac is set in English as major language):
the 'Account Number' column shows ok, but the 'Password' & 'certify code' columns are closed and blocked. It won't let me key in anything.
    I wonder if it is:
    1. safari blocks pop-up windows?
    2. this bank website requires MS active X?
not sure how to fix it
    Thx,
    Jake

Hi and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
Safari only blocks pop up windows if you have it set to. From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari/ - Block Pop Up Windows But that isn't relevant to this area on this site you are referring to. A Pop Up window in most cases are unwanted advertisements.
You could try Safari maintenance just in case.
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset.
Also, if you are running Safari in 64 bit mode, try running in 32-bit mode instead. Right or control click the Safari icon in the Applications folder, then click: Get Info In the Get Info window click the black disclosure triangle next to General so it faces down. Select 32 bit mode. Also, (in that same window) make sure Safari is NOT running in Rosetta.
Active X is a Microsoft (.exe) file and cannot be read by the Mac OS X.. it is Windows based technology. You would have to be running Windows on a BootCamp parition and use Internet Explorer to use Active X.

  • I am unable to access my Bank website since upgrading to Mavericks (Safari 7)

I am unable to access my Bank website since upgrading to Mavericks (Safari 7)
I get the following error message in Safari before I even have the opportunity to
    connect to my bank's website.
It works fine in Firefox and Chrome.
    Access Denied
You don't have permission to access "http://www.tdbank.com/" on this server.
    Reference #18.a555ee3f.1382720248.13b74953

I experienced the same problem where by I could not log into my Nationwide Bank account when I had upgraded Safari to the latest Version before Mavericks 6.1.0 on OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.5. I believe.
I already had Trusteer Rapport installed as recommended by banks.
Some Banks worked but Nationwide skipped the log in page and kept taking me to a page about Cookies telling me I needed to enable them but they were enabled. I just could not get into the Log In Page. Incidentally the Nationwides Cookies screen shot is of an out of date Cookies setting page - it is now under privacy in Safari preferences.
I then installed Rapport again when it popped up as an option and bingo I could get to the Log In page.
Took the plunge and upgraded last evening to Mavericks
Same probelm occured cannot Log In to Nationwide.
I have just stopped Trusteer Rapport and thank goodness I can get into Log On again.
However when I logged out and tried to open another site Safari crashed with the following error message
"safari quite unexpectedly while using trf.dylib plug-in"
Chose Reopen and safari opened Ok
I googled the message and that got me here - seems it is Trusteer Rapport
So someone needs to sort this out I guess Trusteer I guess?
    Hope this is helpful
    Cheers

  • Bank websites on MAC

Hi! I want to know that is there ay way to  use IE applications on safari? I am currently located in China and all bank websites here require IE, so is there any way? may be some application for ICBC, Bank of china?

No, IE addons can't work in anything other than IE and there is no IE for the Mac (anymore).
But there is one thing you can try that sometimes works on IE-centic sites.  Make the site think you are using IE. You do that by changing the "user agent".
You do this with the Safari Develop menu.  If it isn't already enabled, in terminal, type (cut/paste) the following line:
    defaults write com.apple.Safari IncludeDevelopMenu 1
Hit return and relaunch Safari.  You should then see the Develop menu.  In that menu you can change the user agent.  For example, here's mine:
Hopefully, no guarantees, the web site will be happy thinking you are using some version of IE (6, 7, or 8) and won't foul up the display too much attempting to use IE-specific HTML additions instead of standard HTML.
Note, if you ever want to turn the Develop menu back off,
    defaults write com.apple.Safari IncludeDevelopMenu 0
i.e., set the value to 0 for off (as opposed to 1 for on).

  • My hard drive recently crashed and I had a new one installed and upgraded to Yosemite since then I have not been able to get on my banks website to do online banking.  Any suggestions on how to get back on there?

My hard drive recently crashed and I had to have a new one installed, at the same time I upgraded to Yosemite since then I have not been able to get on my banks website to do any online banking.  I just get a blank page after I log onto the bank.  Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Using Safari? Safari/Preferences/Advanced - enable the Develop menu, then go there and Empty Caches. Quit/reopen Safari and test. Then try Safari/History/Show History and delete all history items.  Quit/reopen Safari and test. You can also try try Safari/Clear History and Web Site Data. The down side is it clears all cookies.Doing this may cause some sites to no longer recognize your computer as one that has visited the web site.
Try another browser as a test.

My banking website ask me to install latest IE . but IE8/9 does not work with mac

You should contact your bank to see what browsers they support and until then ignore the message. The chances are very good they suppport Safari and Firefox, both are great browers.

  • Bank website problems.

I've had my iMac for about a week. The last few days when I try to use the bill payment feature on the bank website I get booted out. All the other features work fine. I'm only having problems with that particular feature.  I think it may be a problem with the Mac and not the website. Due to the fact I can access the website and the Bill payment feature on the PC's at work without a issue. This has only been happening since Sunday. Before that I had no issues with the site and used it multiple times. On Saturday I did load my ITunes onto the new iMac form the old PC using the migration assistant. It did create a second ID on the computer, but I never use that only the one I initially set up. Any ideas?

Web sites update their code all the time, so they may have done something to make it not work with Safari.
Also, a major new version of Safari, Version 6.0, was recently released.  If you updated Safari at about the time that feature stopped working, that may be the cause.
As a test, you should download an alternate web browser.  For example, FireFox
    http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/fx/#desktop
Try the same thing with FireFox, to see if there is any difference.

  • I have to reverify my computer on ONE banking website....no others. WHY? Internet Explorer works fine.

Exchange Bank is where I do online banking in Sonoma County CA. When I log in using Firefox, I need to re-verify my computer as if I never logged in before. They then send me a text with a login # and I log in. Pain in the butt! When I log in with IE I have no problem. My settings are all correct. It's something having to do with Firefox and I need help figuring it out. It sucks that there is no phone # to call or open a chat session. What's that all about?
Please contact me and help me out.

Some Banking website are created according to IE, so the issue may be like that also.

  • I cannot connect to the login page of my banking websites for Firefox but can from IE also firefox does not close when I shut it down I have just done a clean instal of windowsws7 and teh problem persists on reinstall of FF3.6.13

I can connect with my banking websites but the login page will not come up. This is a recent occurrence and I have done virus scans and have also recently done a clean instal of Windows 7. The problem persists. I can connect to any other website with no problems. When I close FF it appears to close and Task manager shows as not running but it will not reopen. If I attempt to uninstall I am told that FF is running and needs to be closed. I have to reboot to get to close and be able to reopen.
I can connect to the bank sites with IE. However I really don't like IE.
I am using Win7 Professional on a Sony notebook VGN SZ55

I don't have an answer, but I experienced the same problems trying to set up an airport express to route traffic to my stereo.
Apple Extreme router, iMac and laptop all worked just fine for months, upon installing Airport Express (step by step, according to instructions), all **** broke loose. Airport Utility was unable to see my Airport Extreme router, after hours of rebooting computer, cable modem, router, and finally a hard reset of the Airport Extreme router, it is finally recognized by Airport Utility again.
Recreated network, iMac connects to the internet just fine, laptop (Macbook Air) connects to the network just fine, but will not connect to the internet. Network diagnostics does not help, it gets to the "do you have a router? If so, reboot" stage, and never seems to see the router.
    Any suggestions?

  • Why does my bank website load in an old XP machine with 15.0.1 and will not load on win7 now, after I upgraded to 17.0.1

I upgraded to 17.0.1 on a Win7 machine and now I can't access my bank website. I checked to see if the website was available on my old XP machine with 15.0.1 and I had no problem getting on my bank website. I tried again with my new machine, and I can't even get to the site, much less the sign in page.
There are now a number of websites that I can no longer access, I get an "Unable to connect" page. I didn't have this problem BEFORE I upgraded to 17.0.1. And, something else is weird, when I do a google search, I usually can't click on the first link in the search results in 17.0.1, and sometimes other links.

Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.<br />
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.<br />
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

  • How can I create a whitelist of banking websites based on the server certifcates of legitimate sites?

I want to configure FF so that I can optionally activate a whitelist of my legitimate banking websites. When the whitelist is turned on, FF should only be able to display those sites. When the whitelist is turned off, FF works as usual and displays all sites. I would create the whitelist by visiting my banking websites and somehow adding the server certificates of those sites to the whitelist. So the whitelist would consist of the server certs of my banking websites. When whitelisting is then turned on, FF would allow me to visit only those sites whose server certs match those on the whitelist. This would protect me against phishing sites. How can I do this? Thanks

I believe that did it! Thank you. I am running those changes on a secondary E-Mail address for the same job and server and it appears to be working properly.
