Safe to remove extra TempDB Datafiles after reconfiguring vCPUs?

So best practices state have one TempDB Datafile per CPU.
Our SQL Server had 6 cores, and 6 TempDB Datafiles. We have had to remove 2 cores. What is the best way to remove the extra two TempDB Files?
This topic first appeared in the Spiceworks Community

I would try to restart SQL Server in single-user mode, add -m to the startup options in the SQL Server Configuration Manager. You may still fail to remove the file if there is a process which eagerly connects directly and start to do work.

  • Removing extra blank space after Header in IE

    This is my first webpage in Dreamweaver (actually it's my
    first webpage!) I'm still super new and can use A LOT of help.
    First off, I'm using the two column elastic left sidebar
    header/footer template from DW. When I preview my page in IE I get
    an extra gap between the header and the sidebar/maincontent portion
    of the screen. I've tried zeroing all of my margins and padding and
    that seems to have no effect. I read some of the other posts and
    found some code that sounds like it should fix the problem, so is
    this all I have to add to my code?
    Attach Code:
    <!--[if IE 5]>
    <style type="text/css">
    /* place css box model fixes for IE 5* in this conditional
    comment */
    .twoColFixLtHdr #sidebar1 { width: 230px; }
    </style>
    <![endif]--><!--[if IE]>
    <style type="text/css">
    /* place css fixes for all versions of IE in this conditional
    comment */
    .twoColFixLtHdr #sidebar1 { padding-top: 30px; }
    .twoColFixLtHdr #mainContent { zoom: 1; }
    /* the above proprietary zoom property gives IE the hasLayout
    it needs to avoid several bugs */
    </style>
    <![endif]-->
    Also, I am trying to add an image placeholder to my header,
    but everytime I try, the placeholder becomes part of the <h1>
    tag. I don't want it to be part of the <h1> tag (I don't
    think). I would like to be able to just place it in the header so
    that I can float it left and have it not effect my <h1> tag
    at all. Is there a fix for that? I would assume that there would
    be, but seeing as I'm still at Newb status, I have no idea what
    that code would be.
    Thank you!

    Ewww - made the page in Word, did you?

  • No longer safe to remove iPod after updating (synching)

    I'm using iTunes 7 on XP Pro. AMD Athlon 64. 4G 60-gig iPod (color).
    "Enable Disk Use" is NOT checked, but my iPod now shows up as a Removable Disk in XP. And after synching, iTunes says "iPod update is complete" but no longer tells me it's safe to remove my iPod.
    Yes, I can manually eject the iPod, but that's a bit of a pain. I'd rather just grab it and go. Any ideas?
    (Please don't tell me, here in the WINDOWS forum, that buying a Mac will solve all my problems. Another answer like that will send me into the nearest clock tower.)

    Well, I believe you should keep it because you may need it later.
    Try to delete other files on your computer, or backup some of the data to CD-R, DVDR or external hard drive and then remove them.

    Is it safe to remove Photoshop CS5 after installing CS6??

    It is safer to remove it before installing CS6.  There can be some shared elements and/or settings that might be compromised if you install CS6 while CS5 is installed and then remove CS5.

  • Is it safe to remove Logic 9 after installing Pro X

    As the title says - is it safe to remove Logic 9 after installing Pro X? It is really taking up a lot of room on my computer.
    Will I lose much (if anything?)???
    Thanks in advance!
    Tom

    As octopi said, it's hardly worth it....
    But...
    Certainly don't use App Zapper...... or anything similar..... you will likely end up having to reinstall LPX and all it's additional content again and end up still using up almost the same amount of disk space in the end.
    If you really have to save space, delete any Apple Loops that you feel you wont need and leave the rest, well alone.

  • Removing extra text after a certain point for a field

    Post Author: ralph.devlin
    CA Forum: Formula
    Hello,
    What we want to do is remove extra text, IE (PO12345.195) We would want to remove the .195 from the end of that data so that the groupings will group them correctly. How can I accomplish this. The defaul trim commands seem to only elimnate white space, I want to elimnate text up to a certain point. thanks
    Ralph

    Post Author: Charliy
    CA Forum: Formula
    You want to do an INSTR to locate the period, then a LEFT to only show the data before it.  Something like:
    IF INSTR({table.field},".") > 0 THEN LEFT({table.field},(INSTR({table.field},".") )-1) ELSE {table.field}
    I subtracted 1 because in your example above the period is in position 8 and you want the first 7 characters.

  • What is the diffrence between cookies and cache, is it safe to remove cache?

    what is the difference between cookies and cache , is it safe to remove cache ? . I had cleaned cookies many times but I have not removed cache , does it goes on increasing day by day ? please let me know

    Cookies are small files that contain information useful to a web site -- such as password, preferences, last date visited, etc. You may remove the cookies that you don't want adn since some of them are a privacy issue, many people remove them all.
    Cache is just a collection of data downloaded to help display a web page. After you leave a site, much of the cache is left on your computer and is no longer needed. You can always remove the cache because it will be replaced as needed.

  • Removing extra spaces from a long document

    Hello
    I have seen a number of find/change and GREP formulas to do similar things. I have NO scripting or coding experience and have labored to understand GREP.
    So I am a little afraid to use it as I don't know what all the modifiers refer to (I do have a printout of some neat GREP cheatsheets like Mike Witherell's that I can absorb until I obtain a good reference )
    I need something I can copy and paste into either find/change or GREP dialog that will do the following in less than 12 steps (hopefully) without doing something catastrophic like removing all of my paragraph marks (which I almost did using someones GREP expression)
    No spaces before any comma, period, exclamation mark, question mark, colon, semicolon
    One space only after any of those
    One Space before any opening parenthesis and one space after the closing parenthesis
    No space after the opening parenthesis or before the closing parenthesis
    Remove any double or extra spaces ( en, em etc.)
    Remove any commas before parentheses
    Remove any spaces after a paragraph mark
    I think that's it
    I did find this one recently (Maybe Jongware?)
    [~m~>~f~|~S~s<~/~,~3~4%]{2
    Which from my dim understanding addresses em, en, flush and hair space ,  nonbreaking space ,figure space,third space--not sure of the rest. Really this is way over my head.
    I know this will be a piece of cake for you guys
    Thanks

A: Removing extra spaces from a long document

Peter is too modest, he's doing just great.
No space BEFORE-One Space after ---period,semicolon,colon, exclamation, question mark,CLOSING Parenth,Bracket,Brace, single & Dbl. quotation marks
Find (\s)([.,;:!\)\]\}~}~]])
Replace with $2
No space AFTER-One Space Before----OPENING bracket,brace,parenthesis,Dbl & single quotes
Find ([\[\{\(~{~[])(\s)
Replace with $1
These remove the space before/after but do not automatically add a space after/before.
In the first case, you could add a space right after the '$2' in the Replace With string, but it already may have a space, in which case you suddenly have two. One alternative is to optionally remove it with the Find string (add it as an optional match) and always add it with the Replace string, but remember that this string will only be found if there is a space preceding it. That way you'd only check the space after in cases where there was a bad space before.
So I propose you add another two find/changes to add the space, only when necessary.
One Space After: find
([.,;:!\)\]\}~}~]])(?!\s)
replace:
$0 [followed by one single space]
One Space Before: find
(?<!\s)([\[\{\(~{~[])
replace:
[one single space] $0
Color-coding with my WhatTheGrep might make it just a tad clearer what's going on in that jumble of codes:
(1 [ .,;:! \) \] \} ~} ~] ] 1) (?!! \s !)
and
(?<!<! \s <!) (1 [ \[ \{ \( ~{ ~[ ] 1)
(Orange is lookahead/lookbehind, blue is a regular escaped character, pink is an InDesign special character, green is normal grouping parentheses, and lavender is a character group.)

  • DVD drive is initiating "safe to remove hardware" by itself

    Hi. I am getting the following 2 error messages. I just did a clean re-install of Windows 7 and for the first 3 weeks I had no issues at all (could be unrelated). I am not initiating anything. My laptop is doing this by itself. It just randomly on its own
    tries to remove my DVD-ROM. Then it is unable to do it b/c the device is still in use. I have tried searching for this issue and cannot find any other threads. It clicks and beeps and does this all day long - it interrupts my work. The DVD player works just
    fine, and when I right-click Properties - it says driver is up to date and device is working. So there appears to be no issues with the device itself... rather that my computer is operating in phantom mode - trying to safely remove hardware on its own that
    I am not trying to remove. I have actually gone ahead and removed the DVD drive just to see if it would help, then put it back in, and the problem persists. I am running Window7 64-bit OS. Please help me stop this annoying problem! Thanks!
    error 1: "safe to remove hardware. The HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4247N ATA device can now be safely removed.
    error 2: "Problems ejecting HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4247N ATA device . Windows is unable to stop the device.... Close any programs using this device and then remove it.'

    Hi,
    The reson why I share KB555665 with you is that we can refer to the instruction to use Process Explorer to view what happened with the drive. We can view the detailed process of the drive and find out what is handling\controlling it.
    Or there may be some hardware or software that is interfering with the CD or DVD drive. You can test this after restarting your computer in a clean boot state
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135
    If this issue disappears in this mode, then we can go on to find out the cause. Detailed instructions about How-To are included in KB 929135

  • How to remove line space before/after paragraph in Photoshop Elements?

    I am using Elements 12 and want to remove the extra spacing that is automatically inserted between paragraphs after a hard return.  Is there some way to adjust the extra spacing before/after a paragraph in Elements?

    Try resetting the tool (the little arrow next to four lines in the Text Options panel). Setting the leading manually works fine for me in PSE12 with hard carriage returns,

  • How do I remove extra white spaces in a string?

    How do I remove extra white spaces in a string?
    trim() removes before and after spaces.
    If I have a string "This is Test"
    I want to remove extra spaces between words and also I want to keep SINGLE space
    between words. So output should be "This is Test". Thanks.

  • The last update 15.01 did not remove 15.0 is it safe to remove 15.0?

    After doing the the last update 15.01 a few days later as part of my regular maintenance I go to remove programs to check for anomalous or invasive programs. I noticed Firefox 15.0 is still there. Normally the program replaces itself and or removes older versions. I am assuming it is safe to remove 15.0

    Hey, me too. I'm not inclined to touch either of them without someone digging through the Windows Registy and figuring out what the Uninstall button will do. If you like to experiment, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings folder (your Profiles folder) in case something goes wrong. See [[Backing up your information]]. For example, you can copy your entire Firefox Profiles folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.

  • Safe to remove...?

    I was wondering if it would be safe to remove Adobe Premiere Pro CS 4 by drag-n-drop. When I installed Adobe Master Collection CS 4, I did not select to install it, however it still appears in my Applications folder and is hogging space. How can I get rid of this? I would also like to remove Soundbooth, Encore, After Effects, Device Central, and Adobe Drive CS 4.

    Check the folders to see if the applications were really installed or is
    the folder a placeholder filled with the additional content. I believe
    it is the later. If this is the case the material can be removed. You
    might make a backup in case it is not easily restored when/if you add
    those applications.

  • Is it safe to remove "en-US" from System32 ?

    Recently, after adding the French and English (United Kingdom) language packs to an image and installing that image, I selected "fr-FR" as the primary language of the system. I removed the en-US language pack using DISM, but its folder is still
    present in System32. Is it safe to remove this folder ?

    Hi,
    Why did you want to delete this folder? Its size is so small for your whole computer.
    This symptom is normal. "fr-FR" is your primary language. However, system main file need English to display and run many files.
    I would like to suggest you don't delete it in order to run system smoothly.

  • Safe to remove linux kernel when using linux-lts kernel?

    I'm using the `linux-lts` kernel on my work machine (less reboots after updates); I know in theory it should be safe to remove the normal `linux` kernel (and it's dependencies) but does anyone know if it is safe in practice? Nothing that assumes there will always be a `linux` package because without it there couldn't be a running system?

    This should be as easy to figure out, as comparing dependencies can be:
    linux-lts:

    archboot
    nvidia-lts
    r8168-lts
    virtualbox-archlinux-modules-lts

    That might mean, most notably, that infrared ports and cdemu-driven image mounts won't work with the lts kernel (or at least should not without pulling in the normal kernel).
