Dear SAP Support,
We would like to know the SAP Hardware sizing for "User-Based sizing".
Our queries is
1. In "User-Based sizing", What we have to consider,
the number of users are calculated in the basis of
Concurrent users in the system in a given point of time
or
total number of users logged into the systems in the whole day?
We have referred the SAP document "Sizing SAP System" and the above
point are not clearly mentioned.

As the document says there are number of possible definitions for "users" in SAP context...
For understanding assume that no of users logged to the system they consume different resources / areas in the system, some login to the system whole day but they don't work whole day, some user open multiple session to work while other open multiple session but they don't exactly work on it which means (every new session consume memory/resources) like you said their are concurrent users wherein they work and consume resources (SAP WPs)
So before finalizing the sizing first compare the both reports (user based, thorhgput) and read the advantages and disadvantages for both. You can also consult with SAP / Account Manager to help you
as per SAP document there's no point in counting no of pc's, laptops to calculate no of users

Dear Monica,
You can do this with Roles & Profile (Authorizations).
Go to T-Code PFCG - Either enter the roles that currently exists or create a new role. Insert T-code VKM1in Menu tab page & then go to Authorizations tab
Expand the Thread Standard - Sales & Distribution,
Once again expand the thread Standard - Credit Doc. Value Class: Processing of SD Documents
Then expand the sub-thread - Credit Doc. Value Class: Processing of SD Documents
Here There is a option Document value class (credit management) - Here you can enter the Document Value that user is Authorized to release the block...
You might have to take help og your Basis person to create Roles & do the above...

SAP Password Reset for user opted system / client

Hello, we have a requirement where the user will log on using LDAP and go to the portal and from the web page opt to reset the system and client where he/she wants to reset to his specified password using CUA. This is similar to as specified in
www.microsoft-sap.com/pdf/Password_Reset.pdf
Problem is : Is there a way to reset the corresponding (non production) systems password as done in SU01 through abap. creating a bdc recording of su01 and running does not seem to work. Nor does SUSR_USER_CHANGE_PASSWORD_RFC as the user does not know his current password. Any solution / way out by BAPI calls (maybe) along with their sequence info would be appreciated.

I tried that. But this happens : The function executes successfully with status 0 and message as User xxxx has been changed but when that user tries to logon with that password then it fails meaning it really did not change . This happens for all destination systems other than current logon system.
Question: is there another process to synchronize the change or commit i have to run/ call. I thought SAP took care of it automatically.

SAP periodically benchmarks different servers and indicates their SAPS. Visit:
http://www.sap.com/solutions/benchmark/index.epx
Select on the right under SD Benchmarks ->"SD two-tier results" (as NW MDM is more similar to a 2 tier architecture).
A table will open with all benchmarked server's SAPS results.
The list updates periodically.
You can download it to a text delimited file.
Hard to indicate regarding the RAM you received without having more details.
The calculation should be done for each repository on the server separately and then added up.
Generally, 10GB memory seems a resonable result.

How do you stop BSPs on WebSEAL for asking for user-credentials?

We are currently having an issue with BSP Pages. When we test the BSP pages on the R/3 system they work OK. When we test them directly on the Portal then they too also work. The problem is that they are not working properly on our Intranet.
The intranet that we use is an IBM Tivoli product (also known as WebSEAL). We currently have WebSEAL SSO to our SAP Portal. This is working OK. When we use WebSEAL to access the portal we are prompted to enter our user-id and password so that the BSP page can be displayed. This should not be happening and it defeats the purpose of SSO. I have attached a screen shot document to demonstate this.
Some time ago we had a similar issue where the transactions on the portal (when executed from WebSEAL) were giving us a Webdynpro time-out error. I later determined that the cookie information was not being passed to WebSEAL. To fix this, I went to the Visual Administrator and went to server >> services >> web container and for the web container "sap.com/irj" I went to the cookie configuration to add a session cookie. By doing this I fixed my previous problem.
Coming back to my problem, I had a junction created in WebSEAL to point to the bsp directory (sap/bc/sap/bsp/*) on the host concerned. I had both a SSL and TCP junction created both resulted in error messages - stating that the client (SAP) is asking for user credentials.
Hoping that I have provided enough information above my question is as follows:
(1) How can I get the BSP messages to work on WebSEAL such that it will not ask for user credentials to be entered? Would this involve making a further change to a Web Container? If so - which container also needs a session cookie to be generated?

My security department have logged a call with IBM 2 days ago yet have not received any response.
In your document you mention that you need to have a junction to AS-JAVA and a junction to AS-ABAP.
We have created the junctions "/sapep" (for AS-JAVA) and "saphr1" (for AS-ABAP).
The junction /sapep" also contains the junction mapping entries "/irj/" and "/SSOTicket/".
The direct URL to the hidden image is : https://uadsfi01.auiag.corp:53001/SSOTicket/1x1.gif. I have tested this (using my user id and password) and it works OK.
When testing the image through TAM (https://test.insideiaghome.iaglimited.net/sapep/SSOTicket/1x1.gif) we get an "unexpected authentication challenge"
I have reviewed the log below and it seems that we are having an authentication issue with the image:

When logging into the SAP Portal directly general user ids have no problem accessing this (Non-Administrator portal users), however through Tivoli it is causing an issue.

App is user-based rather than computer-based?

One thing I am really concerned about (and I really hope I am wrong) is that FCPX and Motion seem to be user based now rather than computer based. The structure for effects and such which I am concerned will affect how multiple accounts on the same machine will access the same features.
Has anyone played with this or noticed any change in the directory structure and placement of plugins, effects, generators etc. from the main librbary/application support/ that would affect this? Have some things been moved to the app package instead?
Moving forward I just want to know that when I have effects, plugins, generators, etc. that they are accessible to everyone on the computer. Perhaps I have a funky install and need to reinstall.
Tell me I am wrong! Please.

Thanks Tom. I thought and was hoping I was wrong. The few I have installed were setup for user-based installation except for FXFactory. Just wanted to be certain. I thought that would have been a change almost as bad as dropping FCS for sale the day of the FCP X release.

CRM User based Sizing

Hi Experts,
I am referring CRM 7.0 hardware sizing guide to perform sizing for our CRM 7.0 system.
Here is the screnario..
User based sizing..total user approx 1500
I am using CRM sales scenario and distributing 25-50-25 as High Medium Low activity users.
With this i am gettign around 18000 SAPS which i feel is quite a High value.
Can you pls provide some inputs to let me understand the optiimal value here.

Sizing guide has also state that if number of users is too high, over 500, you'd user throughput based on sizing rather than user based sizing...

Hardware sizing recommendations for B2B Server

My customer Welch Foods Inc. is on 11i Oracle eBusiness Suite and is planning to uptake the latest 1Sync integration features in the PIM product. For out-of-box AS2 connectivity with 1Sync - they are planning to use Oracle B2B Integration Server 10.1.2.3.
They have an average transaction volume of 30 transactions per month. One time - initial load of 20,000 transactions.
Based on the above estimates, they are looking for hardware sizing recommendations for the B2B server.

Yes, B2B instance will run alone on a box.2. what will be the size of message
Messages can be anywhere from 5-20 KB3. how many messages will be part of a transaction.
It should be 2 - Registration and publication. But sometimes it depends on how successful the first “registration” goes. Typically we get one or two errors that the users go into PLM, correct and re-send.However, Looking at your current requirement, 30 transaction per month, we can easily address in a 4 GB machine itself.
Additionally, Oracle B2B supports 10+ messages per second in 32GB, 4 processor machine.
Memory suggested above is 4GB, does that take into account memory used by the 10G App server foot print or this is only to take care of messages? Also, how many Processors (Risk IBM) will be needed?

Hardware Sizing for EBP, MDM Catalog

This is for an SRM implementation project in extended classic scenario. The plan is to use all 3 components EBP, MDM Catalogs and SUS.
We are sizing hardware for a mid size company with around 10,000 employee base and USD 350 million of spend to be processed. With not more than 50.000 (X) Purchase orders annually, and therefor assumed Goods confirmation document and invoices to be 100.000 (2X).
We are using Quicksizer tool for sizing. Here are some of the areas which we need to validate-
1. Is there a benchmark or a recommended or empirical percentage (%) of total employee strength that will be concurrent users.
2. What can be the SAPS number range for EBP for a typical mid size company as described above. Any experience with respect to this would be helpful.
3. Quicksizer doesnt suppoer MDM catalog sizing. Any inputs on the same would be useful.
4. We are using EBP sizing template in quicksizer for SUS sizing with object data with respect to SUS. Is this the right approach.

Hardware sizing for web dynpro

Hi All,
our users for the implementation of some new SAP (we have R/3 4.6C) modules want an UI more friendly. So we think to implement Web Dynpro (abap and java) on Web Application Server NTW 7.0 which make an RFC call to R/3 4.6c functionalities. How can we estimate the sizing of WAS NTW 7.0? How can we estimate the workload of web dynpros?
