SAP HCM / SAP Techno Functional ?

Hi,
I have 6 years of experience in SAP HR. Have started my career as ABAPer. Efficently worked in BSP.
For past 4 years i have been in eHR project ( SAP HR ABAP, ESS, MSS, eAppraisal - Configuration and development in BSP,elearning,EP ( Content and user Admin). For past 1 year i have been in SAP Payroll (Schemas, payroll functions, wagetypes). Currently doing payroll post production support.
Though my role is senior sofware engineer, i have worked efficeintly in functional side for eAppraisals and SAP Payroll (schemas, fns, features and wagetype configuration.
Wht role i can go for? Which will be good for my future? Which role has more openings?
SAP ABAP Techno consultant,
SAP ABAP Lead,
SAP Techno Functional,
SAP Functional,
EP Admin
I would like to pursue my career as SAP HR Techno Functional. Please Advice.
Advance Thanks,
J.Dhiya.

Thanks KG.
Some companies didnt short list my resume, as i have only 2.5 years of exp as functional.  though am confident of doing functional role, seems technical door is wide opened.
How about openings for SAP techno-functional?  Heard only small companies have techno functional positions and most of the MNC's have separate positons for technical and functional.
I am in dilemma, which one to go for. anyone had simillar experience?

J.Dhiya

    Hi,
    Good morning and greetings,
Wishing you a very Happy New Year 2007
Considering your experience, it is better to get into SAP as the market is growing a lot...eventhough you have functional experience, in order to materialize with Functional Consulting, you will have to undergo classes...SAP themselves conduct classes using various business partners and you can join them to understand the configuration bit...For pursuing your goal, first step would be to join a class on understanding the indepth knowledge on SAP...Since the market requires lot of consultant, but still the requirement is majorly for expereinced consultants and for achieving that you will have to work hard to gain that experience in SAP...At the time of doing the course please ensure that you keep continuing with your existing job.
    Hope this meets your requirement.
Please reward points if found useful
    Thanking you
    With kindest regards

  • SAP ABAP Techno Functional Consultant

    Hi all,
What kind of profile is this? I'm talking about 'SAP ABAP Techno Functional Consultant'. I'm thinking in a multimodule consultant with strong ABAP skills. Am I right?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Eduardo

    Thanks
Its clear that there are consultants with a shameful behavior, overselling themselves. But, in the other side that Jeyakanthan
tell us (an ABAPer with strong functional skills). If you are a functional with 10/15 years of experience, with 2 or more modules and you have ABAP skills (not all, of course, you develop your own enhancements/BADI/BTE, your ALV lists, perhaps you have problems with smartforms -ie: you are slow in the development of forms-, a little bit of ABAP OO, you are able to do traces and check bottlenecks...) ¿How do you sell yourself? ¿How do you improve your possibilities in the market?

  • SAP HCM Support Function reg

    Hi All
I have 4 Years of Experience in SAP HCM End user support and I also got a job offer for SAP HCM Support from one of the big company.
If I continue my career in SAP Support what will be my future career, whether is there any big career opportunities available in future for Support function.
    Please suggest your views
    Thanks

    I agree with Colleen,
There is a general perception among many that Support project work is degrading, boring, monotonous, non-challenging, lack-of-learning-opportunities etc.
Those who say this, have actually no real work experience or are ignorant of world they live in. A support project is as important as an Implementation or a Roll-out project. Most Implementation and Roll-out projects are a 100m dash to the finish line. No one is bothered whether you flew or limped to the finish-line - as long as you completed the run within a decent timeline. The real challenge of Support project is in fixing a hurriedly set-up system without taking into consideration future performance or sustainability. These points have been discussed many times(even recently).
Even if the above reasons don't excite here's one more. All Implementation/roll-out projects are short term and you'll end up searching for projects within months of beginning one, whereas Support projects are long-term and hence give you more stability and reassurance of steady revenue.

PS: And this comes from a person who's worked in Implementation/Rollout/Upgrade projects for 70% of his total SAP project experience.

  • Question about SAP "Techno Functional" label

    Hello all,
I am going on my 4th year of SAP BASIS.  I am in a very small basis team (3 people) and have experience with implementation and administration of Netweaver 2004s (BI 7.0, ECC 5, CRM 5.0)  Yes, not the newest, I know.  I also do DBA administration with Oracle 10g, and JAVA due to CRM dual-stack and EP.
My training and focus is on Authorizations and I have quite a bit of experience from projects helping our BA's with both MM and FICO.  So I have had a lot of experience on that side from the functional perspective, as well as the BI Analytics and Analysis Auth in our portal.
So I do "a little bit of everything."  I have spoken with some contacts who claim I am "techno functional" and should list that.  I just wanted some advice on whether this is true, and I should list that, or whether it would be misleading? I know this is generally sought after by smaller shops.
Also, it was suggested that since I do not have much interest in learning ABAP programming in depth, I look more towards PMI training to sharpen my project management skills on the functional side.  I am not sure whether PMP or CAPM would be beneficial versus further SAP classes/certifications.
Thanks and hopefully someone can give me an idea whether I can be labelled as "techno functional."

    Dear Respected Members,
Myself Abhinav Chandra , having a PG Degree in HR and a work experience of 8 yrs plus in HR Domain . At presently, I am associated as as Manager - Human Resources with India's 2nd largest Steel Manufacturing organization . My organization is planning to implement SAP HCM module in this May 2015 and I am designated with the responsibility for its implementation in my organization .
Pursuing a career in SAP HCM was always my dream since 3 yrs when had a refresher training in SAP HCM domain in 2012 . Now my question is if after gaining a SAP HCM Implementation experience and a SAP Certification with core HR exp of 8 yrs , how will it benefit in making a career move in SAP.
Request you all kindly update with your desired suggestions.
    Thanks and Regards
    Abhinav Chandra

    Hi Abhinav,
First I am very glad to hear that you have sound domain knowldge in HR. So for a person like you SAP Implementation experience will be fantastic advantage. Off course if you wanna do certification on SAP HCM that you can always do but for a person like you who has already sound domain knowldge if you add SAP HCM Implementation experienece in your bucket you are done.
You know the respective HR Processes so thats a big advantage. However following steps would be good for you:
    Participate in Requirement Gathering workshop
Participate in Design Process and finalise the design
Try to know the SAP Configuration to some extent
Involve in SAP HCM Process testing
Good amount of involvement in SAP Authorisation issues as well.
    Thanks & Regards

  • Help in getting into SAP HCM

    Hi All,
I am very new to this community. I was earlier working as a SAP ABAP HR consultant. 6 months Back I did my certification in SAP HCM ECC 6.0 and started working as a techno functional consultant. To explore my self in this new dimension I need guidance in HR functional ground. I would request here to provide me your valuable suggestions how to approach. Also I request all of you to please share with me relevant documents/videos, if any. Materials (i am having certification materials) relevant to any SAP HCM sub modules would be of great help though I am currently working in payroll. my personal email id is deleted
    Thanks & Regards,
    Chandra

You know, asking for documentation and material isn't permitted on these forums.  It's probably a good idea to check out the rules before beginning any new project.
    what do you think?

  • Obtaining the list of data interfaced out of SAP HCM

    Hello,
we got a good challenge from our partners in the business organization that we support. The Data Privacy officer on the business partner side would like to know:
    - what other systems are "takers" of the data from our SAP HCM instance
    - what data pieces (what tables, fields...) are being interfaced out
    - what is the frequency of that
We are trying to maintain the document whenever a new interface is being built but in practice you know how it looks like.In order to have 100% confidence in the anwser I would want to pull such list from the system. Is there a way to do that? What would you suggest?
    Regards,
    Pawel

Try the function below, pass the item name and get the Data provider for that particular item, you will have to do this for all the items in the template.
    function getDPName(item){
         prop = SAPBWGetItemProp(item);
         var tableHidden=true;
         if (prop != null){
           for(i=1;i<prop.length;i++){
             if (prop<i>[0] == "DATA_PROVIDER")
                   return prop<i>[1]
           }//end for
         }//end if
    }//end function
    Thanks.

  • FIM 2010 R2 Web Service Connector SAP HCM HTTP binding

    Hi all,
I'm currently configuring the FIM web service connector to connect to a SAP HCM system.
I followed the documentation (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=29943) to create the necessary web service on the SAP system. With the only difference that
I'm not able to select "None" (HTTP) under the Web Service Communication Security Settings as described in the documentation.
I had to select SSL and now get the following error message in the Web Service Configuration Tool.
    Synchronization Service Manager
Following Endpoints are configured with unsupported binding:
    - 'customBinding' binding for 'Z_IDM_CONNECTOR_SOAP12' endpoint
Please configure endpoint(s) with http binding only and refresh service(s).
Web service connector cannot be configured through Synchronization Service Manager if endpoint binding is not basic http.
Any help how to fix this is highly appreciated. I already can see the available BAPIs in the Web Service Configuration Tool. (In other words "Discovery" is working.)
I'll get the same error if I try to load the configration file into the Web Service Connector in the Sync Engine.
    Thanks
    Chris

Ok. I got that fixed by changeing the Transport Security to "None" in the Security Profile of the Service Definition.
I'm now facing a different error that you might be able to help.
I'm not able to add additional BAPIs to the SU_USER Function Group as described in the documentation because the "Plus" Button is missing in my screen. How can I add these BAPIs in order to use the Web Service Configuration Tool with the provided SAP ECC
    6 configuration template?
     Thanks
    Chris

  • BW implementation for SAP HCM.

    Dear Experts
I am on a new project where they need to do HR Data Migration from PeopleSoft (Legacy System) into SAP ECC. The Client wants me to implement SAP BW (New Implementation) doing the following Functional Areas for SAP HCM:
    1. Personnel Administration
    2. Learning Solution Online
    3. Occupational Health & Safety
    4. Leave
    5. Time
    6. Allowances
    7. Position Management
    8. Organizational Structures
    9. Delegations
    10. Competencies
    11. Payroll
    12. CATS
    13. Business Intelligence
This is the scope of the project.
They were using just over 600 reports from the Legacy System.
Please let me know how long does it take developing an average of 25 Reports in each of the above mentioned areas (Area-wise) including ETL (Backend) Design in SAP BW? We are also looking at using Business Object Reporting Tools moving forwards.
What is the best order of implementation of above Functional Areas?
I am to start off with a SAP BW Solution Blueprint with As-Is, To-Be (Solution and Approach). Please let me know if there are better ideas.
Your time in very much appreciated.
    Kind regards,
    Chandu

    Hi chandra,
You first need to understand the requirement of the business first because if there are 600 reports in legacy system you no need to presume that you need to develop 600 coz of the multidimensional report of BI you can club so many requirements in to one report. And you have to decide, up to what extent the Business content reports would be helpful. If the BC report meets the requirement it is as simple as that to activate and use it. But if the BC report wont meet the business requirement then you need to estimate the efforts to develop. Here you need to keep in mind that the standard extractors would be fine or need to enhance or need to go for Generic extraction. And also the HCM reports are big tricky and lot of data issues would rise. By considering all this you need to plan the days of work to complete all the reports.
I hope you understood what i am trying to explain.
    Thanks,
    RRRR

  • Right PAAS/Middleware for SAP HCM and SAP Cloud Integration ?

In 2013, SAP has lot of Focus on SAP Cloud and SAP HCM on premises integration elements following the hybrid model, I will like to know the direction from SAP on integration Middleware/PAAS which will reap great returns in terms of TCO to customers over next 4-5 years basis the SAP Integration Road map esp the exposing standard connectors ?
Please do keep in mind the the Middleware/PAAS should be able to support easy integration with Third Party Vendors like ADP/Hewitt etc

The SFAPI and OData API are exposed for any web service integration, including Dell Boomi AtomSphere. The OData API can handle delta changes.
HCI is an evolving platform and offers similar functionality to Boomi in terms of building integrations with a drag-and-drop interface, etc. There is a SuccessFactors connector provided for HCI and the Talent Hybrid integration content is available on HCI as well as PI. The Employee Central integration content currently available on Boomi should be available on HCI hopefully by the end of the year. The Talent Hybrid high-level roadmap can be found here:
SAP HCM and SuccessFactors Integration Packages: an overview
Boomi is included in the Employee Central subscription, but is very expensive to license for other use cases (i.e. Talent Hybrid scenarios). HCI costs 7.5% of the SuccessFactors subscription. PI is free. HCI may be included in the Employee Central subscription at a later date, but this is not definitely going to happen.

  • Is SAP HCM training/certification worth taking a risk and money?

I am based in one of the metro cities and have around 5 years of experience in HR-Recruitment field, current working with a big5 consulting firm. I sense a very slow career growth in my field and am planning to go for a SAP HCM certification. I checked with ATOS and they are charging a whopping amount of 4 Laks.
The amount is very high and also I fear of losing my current role. I am unable to decide shall I go ahead with my plan or shall I continue doing my current job.

I was also have 6 years of functional experience before coming into this field. I took a drop of one year, and studied for certification. I was based in a small town where there was just one good company into SAP. So I joined that, gained good knowledge and learned how to deal with the clients. Worked there for 3 years at a low salary (it was quite low. But in metros you have good options, so you might expect more, and this was 4 years back, so that time in small town like Indore, the salary was very low as compared to Indore). Now I am in Mumbai, and earning a very good package. It surely takes time, but within this span of time, your money will be refunded to you. If you get a good branded company, it can be repaid within a year.
So, I would suggest, do try for this, and clear your certification, which will give you added advantage. Do not bother if you get a small company at an initial level. Rather I would suggest to try for a small company first, as you get to learn a lot from there. In MNC, you will have limited scope. But if you go for a small company at an initial level, your learning will be good. But yes, package will be less. I feel at initial stage in SAP career, package should not be the constraint. If you do your work sincerely, and honestly, you definately get paid in future with a good reward.
So I would suggest, do go for the certification. If you cannot afford the classroom training, go for online training (which I had also done), it might be cheaper than the classroom training.
All the best, and do your best.
    Regards,
    Bhagyashree

  • Reporting in SAP HCM using Crystal Reports

We have decided to use Crystal Reports for SAP HCM Objective Settings and Appraisal component.
What will be the best option to access SAP HCM Tables using Crystal Reports?
    Regards
    Faisal

    Hi,
I have to assume that you've followed the Admin guide and given sufficient Authorizations (as per the detailed list)
Actually, there are quite a few related notes about this, if you search in SDN or via SMP: www.service.sap.com/notes or /x-search . for example:
1334461 - After upgrading SAP R/3 ECC5 to version ECC6, the Integration Kit transport package /Crystal/BC was found in DELETED OBJECTS and Crystal ODBC connection cannot view or browse any tables
1374874 - Cannot see the SAP tables, clusters or functions in Crystal Reports
    here's a suggestion:
    using the Database Options:
When creating a new report, in the Database Expert window, click on SAP Table, Cluster, or Function
Log on to an SAP system
Once connected, right click on the connection created and select Options
In the Options window, in the Data Explorer area, use the Table name LIKE field to select only a subset of data.
Type the full or partial name of the tables you are looking for
Use the percentage sign (%) to denote any number of characters
Use the underscore (_) to denote one characters
Once done, click OK to accept the change.
Back to the Database Expert window, right click on the connection and select Refresh

  • SAP HCM Life Cycle

    Hi Expert,
Can anyone help me with the life cycle stages of SAP HCM.
I have a student who asked me what is the concept of SAP HCM, I explained about where was it started, what is the architecture, why is SAP preferred against other applications, modules covered, logic of integration... I would like to know if I am missing on anything as far as Concept is concerned.
    Thank you in Advance.
    Sejal

    Hi,
There is nothing as such called lifecycle of SAP HCM.
It is similar to an ERP application, and basically your organization first decides which of the ERP module they are going to implement, once they have decided to go for HCM, they wil opt for it.
Again in HCM it depens on customer which module he is going to implement and HCM is vast it inlcudes PA, OM, TIME, PAYROLL, BENFITS, TRAVEL MANAGEMENT, LSO, Performance management, HR Forms and Processes etc.
This implmentation has a life cycle - like
Requirement gathering, Blue printing, Realization, implementatin (Configuration and coding), Custom implemenation, Integration if required, Testing (includes, UT, SIT and User acceptance testing), Documentation and hence Go Live.
This is a huge process and requires domain / business / technical/ functional / Quality / Knowledge experts.
    Hope it helps you.
    Thanks & Regards, Swapnil Mishra
