SAP MM Organization structure for the Utilities Industry

Hi,
Please let me know how does the typlical org structutre should look like for the Utilities company.
Thanks in advance

Hi,
Material management organizational structure includes
1. Purchasing Organization,
2. Plant,
3. Storage Location &
4. Purchasing Group.
Note:
It depends how you project or design the purchasing group in the organization & purchase group can be created and represent as department .In general, company have many more departments & need to control & approval of all purchasing documents at department level & at the end to know cost incurred in each department with various activities( more then one& each GL represent one activity) .So in turn Purchasing group(department) is linked  to cost center and then different G/L accounts which represent various activities linked with the cost center.

  • Sales Organization Structure for Distribution Industry

    Hi Experts,
Need some inputs wrt Distribution Industry
    1. In Distributor set up. how should we set up the different manufactures which supply the products for distribution.
    2. How should we link the manufactures to Products they supply.
    3. How should we link the sales representatives to specific manufactures.
    4. Would it be a wise decision to incorporate manufactures as a division in the organization structure. Or should we map the manufactures as vendors and maintain the Vendor Info records.
It would be really great if any one can share their experiences wrt to sales organization structure in the Distribution industry especially Pharma Distribution.

    hi
this is to inform you that:
first of all  i have a question to you.  you are manufacturer of products that means are you paying excise duty for manufacturing products or only distributor of products.
    1. In Distributor set up. how should we set up the different manufactures which supply the products for distribution.

If you are a manufacturer - tae material FERT if you are a distributor - tae HAWA asa material type.

    3. How should we link the sales representatives to specific manufactures.
3.a. it may be specific to divisions tae one sales group for each specific divisions.
    4. Would it be a wise decision to incorporate manufactures as a division in the organization structure. Or should we map the manufactures as vendors and maintain the Vendor Info records.
4.a. manufacturer as a vendor and different products a divisions.

    sales organizations : 2 - domestic & exports
    distribution channels : 3 - retail - super stocists - C & F agents.
retail/wholesales/distributors/superdistributors/super distributors - all you can consider all into one distribution channel or tae as different distribution channels you have to analyse from reports perspective to have all these.
divisions - products = divisions lie cardiac - orthopedic to name a few.
sales office : you can have many as per your requriment.
sales group : basing on divisions = sales groups
company code = how many balance sheets you are submitting now to AAI that many company codes you have to have.
batch management with FIFO or LIFO strategy has to be mandatory in implementation.

  • How to modify organizational structure for workflow?

    Hi,
What is the best practice for modifying the organizational structure for workflow? I know I can do all the changes in development and move it to production via transport system but is that always required.
It seems tedious to transport the org plan from dev to prod every time there is a position change etc.
And it does not allow you to change it in production since the client is locked.
I don't even have all the users I have in production in my dev box so I can't assign the correct ones to positions. Would it mean I have to have the users in the dev box mirror the ones in production?
    Thank you,
    Sergiy

This answer depends on the HR managment that you have there, if the HR area is a good coordinated area the best answer is to configure the system for automatic transports and pass the HR structures in this way, you can lock some dangerous infotypes in the T77TR tables and be sure that you will not have any trouble with that data. the best thing using this option is to have a specific DEV client to transport the HR structures.
If you will not have any control between the Dev Environment changes and some people will modify in Prod and other people will make transports in a Dev environment, the best option is to open the client and modify the Org structures every time you need it.
Refers to the SAP Press book Practical Workflow, section 5.4.2.

  • What is Organization structure in IS Utilities

    1. What is Organization Structure in IS Utilities and How it helps?
    2. How and Where can we configure that?
    3. any Building Block for this concept?
Kindly provide me the relavent links/Docs for further understanding... many thanks in Advance
    Srujan

Org, structure defn can be different for different industries, but in general it can be defined as mentioned below.
    Org. Structure is:
You use the organizational structure to represent and process
disciplinary assignments, remuneration flows and statistical aggregations.
As asked by you 1 example for this is:
In an insurance company, the organizational structure models the
hierarchical picture of an organization (generally sales and distribution), in particular for
    the derivation of overriding commissions.
One more definition for Org. Structure which can throw more light in understanding this is:
"A hierarchy in which the organizational units in an enterprise are arranged according to tasks and functions.
The organizational structure differs from the administrative enterprise or personnel structure, whose
structural elements are relevant to payroll accounting and accounting."
Please mark thread as answered if you get satisfactory answer.

  • Organization Structure for multiple countries

    Hi,
We are setting up GLOBAL support organization. Our support organization includes following countries:
    1. China
    2. Japan
    3. Korea
I am reading the SAP blog from forum. It says that,
"Enter the necessary data in the address tab (City and Country). In the Function Tab, Select Service and Service Organization. In the Attributes Tabs, check for the attribute maintenance Scenario: Service that you have a value in the attribute Country. Be aware that the basic organizational determination process is based on the Country value. This means that all of your business partners should have the same value in this attribute. If you have more than one country then you should create several organizations".
    My query is:
In my organization structure, it involves three countries (China, Japan & Korea). I have included all the three countries in a single organization structure. But as per the above statement, should i need to create three organization structure for three countries?
    Regards
    Kumar

    Hi Kumar,
Sorry for late response: but the answer is no, only one structure for each country.

  • Advanced Planning for the retail industry

    Hi,
First, I would like to know the best solutions for planning in the retail industry and if you can share with me more detail about these solutions.
Second, I want to understand the SCM menu....I know that under the point Advanced Planner and Optimzer are the DP, SNP, PPDS and GATP solutions......but I want to understand the point Forecasting and Replenishment, is it for the retail industry or what it is for?....how does it interact with SAP-Retail or the solutions that you explained in the first point?
    Thanks a lot!

SAP has avoided making any recommendations. I specifically asked one of their architects a similar question a couple of weeks ago.
In general the X12 and EDIFACT standards are king within the retail industry. Within the United States X12 has been the default standard for many years and is used by all the giants. Within the European Union EDIFACT is the default standard and is used by the vast majority of retailers. However the UK has a standard which is called Tradacoms. In my experience UK retailers have, when pushed, also offered EDIFACT messaging. It should be noted that these formats are not XML. However many XML convertors exist for them. X12, EDIFACT and Tradacoms are what are commonly referred to as Traditional EDI.
The GS1 standard called eCOM is being increasingly adopted. I do know that Accenture and CapGemini have recently been heavily involved in promoting GS1 and eCOM. This is because eCOM standard is realistically the most heavily backed replacement for the Traditional EDI standards. The several of the largest US and European retailers and manufactures are now throwing their weight behind eCOM.

  • I use PSE 11 on Windows 7. I have about 40,000 tagged jpg files in the Organizer. For the past several months whenever I try to back up the Organizer it just freezes. Help!

I use PSE 11 on a PC with Windows 7. I have around 40,000 tagged jpg files in a catalog in Organizer. For the past several months everytime I have tried to back up the catalog, Organizer freezes. I add and tag new items all the time, but haven't been able to back up Organizer since last December. Please help me figure out what to do. Thanks!

I'm happy to report that I've managed the resolve this issue of mine
After a little discussion with customer support through online chat today, I was still advised to try the uninstall and install to see what happens.
So I used the CC cleaner tool first, restarted then started by installing CS2 then CS5 using my serial numbers and made sure that I selected 32 and 64 bit programs to be installed
Anxiously, I restarted my laptop to see if it would reboot okay and thankfully it did *relief!*
Now I can open avi files using 32 bit of Photoshop CS5 without any problems (thank goodness!!)
I think I probably didn't install the 32 bit program when I first bought the installation CD, since I thought I didn't need it but never knew it was still required for editing avi files!!
Surprisingly, I still got to keep both versions of CS2 and CS5 this time around, as CS2 was simply replaced by CS5 when I first installed it two years ago....hmm.
    So thank you again gener7!

Error on uncompressing file: Error : ActiveX component can't create object.
    ==>
You should do this step such as:
    1. copy file "XceedZip.dll" into the directory SAP BPC
    2. register that file into the register window using sintaks: "regsvr32"
    3. If the successfully message box appears, You should open the MS.Excel or SAP BPC administration
    2. Create dimensions -
    Split File Error
    ==>
You should check the database your application in MS.SQL first please.Perhaps, It's does not open and retrieve data.
    3. Delete dimensions -
OLAPConnect Error - The Database with ID = 'ApShell' doesn't exist in the collection

The help is wrong. When you request a number from Next number, it returns the Current Sequence. It then adds the value of the Increment By to that number and stores it back to the Current Sequence, ready for the next request.

  • Organization structure for Case study .... need yr advice

Hi …I am in process of preparing an org structure for one of the company.
The company operations is like ….
The company has four factories in different locations and have 3 Regional distribution centers (RDC) across india. Each distribution center has 5 branches (Sales Offices), in this way they 15 Sales offices across India.
Most of the materials are procured by factories independently while some materials are centrally procured. Factories produce Finish goods and they are either sale to customer directly ( big regular customers) , or transferred to RDC to cater the requirements of other MID size customers and the other possibility to transfer it to Branches for Retail customers. RDCs also transfer FG to Branches.
All factories , RDC and branches have warehouse facility , however branches have limited warehouse facility as the customers supported by them are very few and generally deliveries are made directly from RDC / Factory.
They also have one R&D department in another location to develop new products and material is generally transferred from factories to R&D department. They also have one project division at the same (R&D) location which handles commissioning of new plants and procurement of capital goods.
Raw Material , Semi finish and FG are transferred between factories and FG material is also transferred between RDCs.
The group also has another Company which produces another line of products. RDCs and Branches of first company also work for second company (which means same RDC can store FG produced by both companies) and also Branches can also have FG material of both companies. Second company doesn’t have any specific R&D or capital division and R&D and capital of first company also work for second company.
Inter company transfer between both companies is a regular practice.
    > Proposed Org structure
    Company – Group Company
Company Code – First company and Second company
    Factory Configurations
    For first company
4 Factories will be 4 plants
Factories Structure (Storage locations / warehouses and storage type)
Since factories have different type of material ( like FG , Raw material , WIP ) therefore I am confused what option I should select
    1) 3 storage location ( for each plant) and one warehouse, 1 storage type
    2) 1 storage  location and three warehouses (I think this is not possible in SAP , not sure ?? )
    3) 1 storage location , 1 warehouse and 3 storage types
    RDC structure
RDCs have full fledged warehouse facility and therefore thinking of making them also as Plant. Every RDC will have 6 Storage locations , 1 for First company RDC itself, 5 for associated branches and I feel each “RDC storage locations” should be a associated to a separate warehouse also.
( Since both companies produce different set of products therefore they will have different material and hence thinking of handling products of both companies in same plant and same storage location and warehouse , may be two storage type/area can be defined to differentiate material of both companies.)
Branches: Will be storage locations under RDC …..
While making branches as Storage location …. I have another question about valuation , since material from Plant and RDC is being transferred to Branches and  from there it is distributed to customers therefore the valuation of FG at BRANCH and RDC should be different as transportation cost , packing , unpacking etc cost should get added at Branch level.
Therefore in case I make branch as Storage location , I will miss the valuation part while if I make them as Plant then there will be lot of documents get generated for each movement. Hence not sure for what option I should go.
    R&D:
Since R& D department is involved in testing in New Product development and generally material is required to be scrapped after testing therefore thinking of making it as Plant with one storage location and may be here I don’t need any warehouse (WM) here.
    Project Division
Project division may also be a separate plant with one storage location and NO WAREHOUSE is required to linked with it.
    Purchase Organizations
4 purchase organizations for each plant respectively and 1 centralized purchase Org for central procurement.
Your all valuable inputs are welcome .... looking foward to have a best possible configuration for above mentioned case study.
    Regards

    Phew... long long question
The rule I generally follow is that the org structure should map reality.
Company code - where Balance Sheet and Profit and Loss are prepared at the end of the year. If an entity does not do this, it is not a company code.
    Plant
    1) Each manufacturing facility is a plant (could be in 1 location or separate).
    2) Each separate location is a plant (even if it only stores goods). May be an overkill, but helps when legal requirements change or the location is upgraded.
So in your case, RDC will be a plant (may be more than 1 if necessary). R&D should be a separate plant without warehouse management
    Storage location
The only rule I follow is that there should not be any overlap of storage locations. So physically, any area of say 1 square foot should belong to one and only one storage location. Otherwise there is a lot of confusion during physical inventory. So logical locations are a no-no.
I usually use a lot of storage locations.
Don't have a warehouse spanning multiple plants (even though it is allowed).
    Purchasing organizations
Have one for each location of purchase. If there is a team sitting in each plant procuring for only that plant, have it as a separate purchasing org (not strictly necessary, but makes authorization simple). For central purchasing, a central purchasing org should do nicely...
    Hope this helps,
    Lakshman
