Sapcar -cvf & sapcar -xvf

HI All,
1.Can some one please explain what is the diff between sapcar -cvf and sapcar -xvf. It would be better if you can explain the usage with an examle.
2.While installing the oracle, is there any special with sapdata4 directory, I was going through one installation document and there I found some thing special with the sapdata4 directory such that all the extracted files go to this ...
Appriciate your quick reply on my first question.
Thanks & Regards
Rajesh Meda

Not really portal related, but I'll give it a try!
sapcar -xvf extracts files from a .SAR file. sapcar -cvf creates a .SAR file. These are SAP's compressed files. sapcar |help will show you other commands.
You should probably ask in one of the other forums about Oracle installation.

  • SAPCAR file usage

    Hi..
I want to install JIDE19_0-10002804.SAR and I do have SAPCAR.CAR file. What is the procedure ? I am not able to find setup file from .sar file. please help.

    Hi,
SAPCAR is a application which can unzip the SAR files.
    To do this:
    1. Start CMD (Dos Console)
    2. Place the SAR file and SAPCAR file in the same directory
    3. In you dos console navigate to the above folder
    4. Run command: <b>SAPCAR -xvf "*.sar"</b> or <b>SAPCAR -xvf JIDE19_0-10002804.sar</b>
This will extract the sar file, then go into the extracted dir and run setup file.

  • How to upgrade SAPCAR version?

    Hi gurus,
I am trying to apply support packages using SPAM. But whenever i am
trying to upload the Support Packages through frontend i am getting
    following error:
"CAR error message: SAPCAR: can not change date
    for /usr/sap/trans/EPS/in/CSR0120031469_0034275.ATT"
I down;loaded again the support package but still getting the same
    error.
I tried to uncar the same in the application server but i still got the
    error while doing SAPCAR -xvf.
I have got a solution to upgrade the version of SAPCAR. but i dont know how to do it?
how to upgrade the version OF SAPCAR.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Priya

    Hi Priya..
You don't need downtime to change permissions...
You can run "/sapmnt/IRQ/exe/saproot.sh" script as ROOT user to set the permissions on Kernel Directory.
    OR
    Do as follow:
    # chown -R irqadm:sapsys /sapmnt/IRQ/exe
    # chmod -R 755 irqadm:sapsys /sapmnt/IRQ/exe
    # chmod 4755 /sapmnt/IRQ/exe/saposcol
    # chown root:sapsys /sapmnt/IRQ/exe/saposcol
After that don't forget to set the permissions of BRTools (brbackup, brrestore, brarchive, brspace etc.) according to below note.

  • Sapcar error

    hello everyone
i am facing the problem in sapcar please provide me the solution
    SAPCAR -xvf DBATL700O10_48-20001000.SAR
SAPCAR: processing archive DBATL700O10_48-20001000.SAR (version 2.01)

    Hi
First take backup of the existing run folder to oldrun
now, copy the existing SAPCAR file to another location like /home/tmp/SAPCAR
    also remane saposcol to saposcol.tmpold
now, extract the SAPEXE file on  /home/tmp/SAPCAR from the /usr/sap/<SID>/SYS/exe/run directory.
    I hope this helps..
    Cheers

  • How to use SAPCAR?

    Dear Experts,
I tried to use SAPCAR.exe to extract *.SAR files but somehow it appeared an error message, which it seems like it tried to extract from SAPCAR.exe file itself as well.
I tried many ways, such as follows:-
I pasted the sapcar.exe in the same directory where all the *.sar files located.
    I used the following options.
    sapcar -xvf *.sar
It extracted all the files in alphabetical order till the letter "s", which it also tried to extract from sapcar.exe.  Therefore, the rest of the files, after "s" were not extracted.
I did try to use the following option too.
sapcar -xvf *.sar -R d:\patch file   (I use the sapcar.exe from different directory than the directory where all *.sar files located).
But still not working, maybe I used the wrong switch.
Does anyone knows the right way of using SAPCAR?
    regards,
    Abraham

I just tried with this option.
In the same directory where sapcar and sar files are located, I did try the following option.  I did it one file by one file but still the same.
    sapcar -xvf sapexe_117-10005992.sar
It extracted all the files in the content in alphabetic order, but one reach the letter "S", it pop up the following message,
SAPCAR : Could not open for writing sapcar.exe (error 28)
The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.
By the way, I also got another error message, when I tried to extract from another file, sapexedb_117-10005992.sar.  It appeared this message, "processing archive SAPEXEDB_117-10005995.sar format error in header"
Does anyone knows what went wrong?
    regards,
    Abraham

    Dear All,

    Regards,

    Hi,
whenever you are doing kernel upgrade and trying to uncar the files, then don't use SAPCAR of exe to extract it because when it uncar the kernel files then it gives new SAPCAR file which tried to overwrite present SAPCAR file but it is in use as you are using it.
So, it is not able to overwrite it and through errors.
So, copy the SAPCAR to some other directory and use it.
By the way path to new SAPCAR on service market place is:
    Support Packaeges --> Entry by Application group --> Additional Components --> SAP Kernel --> <Select your kernel type > --> <select kernel version> ---> <select operationg systems> --> Database independent
    Thanks sunny

    Windows:
    sapcar -xvf LSMW180.CAR

    Hello Eric,
Please refer to SAP Note 130683.
Make sure the sidadm has rwx persmissions on the file being uncarred and all the files in the directory where SAPCAR resides including . and .. (. & .. are usually hidden)
    Hope that helps.

    Hi Hiroya,
what is the operating system you are working on?
The file your downloaded is SAPCAR 7.00 for Windows Server on x64 64bit.
Make sure the file sapcar.exe (rename from SAPCAR_0-10003696) exists in the directory you are executing the command from or at least make sure the SAP system run directory is in your PATH environment variable.
