Satellite A300 - Windows 7 post upgrade issue

G'Day All,
I have made 2 posts to Microsoft Discussion groups:
*Post 1:*
G'Day All,
Just upgraded two (networked) Vista Systems to Win 7 HP (32-bit).
Minor network/Homegroup problems - all resolved.
Desktop - Fine.
Laptop - ??
Toshiba Satellite 300.
After restart, any login shows 'Performance Options' dialog - no pagefile.
Administrator a/c may change (Automatic/Managed/Manual) - 'Restart required'
as expected.
GoTo previous paragraph (loop).
Any offers?

Is there a "Toshiba" explanation?

Hi mate
First of all it seems that its not clear for you that this is a user to user forum
You can start a discussion with common Toshiba notebook users
Back to your posting;
To be honest its not clear for me what you are talking about or what the problem is
You try to upgrade the Vista to Win 7?
Well, please note that there are some installed applications which could not be supported by Win 7!

  • Re: Satellite A300 - Windows Vista hang on - what can I do?

I have a laptop Toshiba Satellite A300 with OS Windows Vista Home Edition.
After some weeks of working with my laptop, it hang on.
I have reinstalled the OS but and it work well during 1 or two months then the laptop hang on again.
I bought this laptop October 2008 and I have reinstalled Vista 3 o 4 times.
    What can I do?

You mean the Vista does not response after couple of time?
Well buddy, this can be an software issue.
I mean there are no magic solutions for such issues I assume you have installed and used many different applications on this notebook.
It could be possible that one of the applications causes this issue
It could be also possible that the registry entries and some system files have been changed during the Microsoft updates
In my opinion you should use some cleaning tools like for example the CCLeaner.
Its free tool and it cleans your registry and other files
You should also check the applications which are running while the system would start to hang up
Last but not least I recommend checking the memory you could run an memory test (www.memtest.org, www.memtest86.com) in order to find out some memory issues.
    Good luck

  • Satellite A300 - Win 7 installation issues

I purchased this Ultimate edition of windows 7 and now installing this o.s on my computer, i end up with this error "Windows setup could not configure windows to run on this computer's hardware", when it reaches the point "Completing installation" the monitor display, after 20-35 seconds, turns off for about 1.5 Seconds then back on before that thing comes up in very nice text hard to read for a while.....
Guys give me a solution but please don't tell me to remove my memory unit(RAM) because i've done that many times but the same error exists...
I have 2 laptops....the current one i am using is running Windows vista ultimate 64 and 86 vista home premium in dual boot.
It came pref-installed with Home premium but i prefer not deleting it unless replaced by the new 7 o.s. my other laptop is only a 1.86 Ghz compaq presario
    I have 4Gb ram, 2.27Ghz P8400 PSAGCA - 03C010 Toshiba A300 System unit, this current one.
I did remove and replace so many times with that Ram thing, it still didn't work.
I have an updated Bios but that didn't help either.
There is one thing, the installer shows an additional box that shows amount of memory being processed during the installation.
But that doesn't show on this laptop that i am using ryt now before that error comes up in the end of the install..
the other laptop clearly shows % and amount of memory processed at the bottom of the installer....
    I don't understand!
SATA mode is also set to compatibility for the advantage of the installer at every reboot, but this doesn't work with vista as it crashes all the time, so i always do the install from boot dvd when in compatibility mode set from bios edit...but nope, that didn't help either...
Windows 7 upgrade advisor only shows 3 issues. "Authen" that fingerprint program, i think that isn't a conflict...it just shouldn't work after the install is complete....
Anyways....guys any idea what this might be?

    Hi
I agree with the user above and I recommend using the AHCI mode in BIOS. This allows a better performance and you can use the best HDD speed.
But therefore the Intel Storage Manager is necessary. You can only use AHCI mode after reinstalling the whole system. So you have to boot from Windows 7 disk and then load the Intel Storage Manager drivers. You can copy these drivers on an USB stick to load it during the setup.
By the way: This seems to be a common issue. Have you tried the forum search? If not you should do it!!
You will find similar threads about this issue where you can also find some interesting postings and tips.
    Good luck! :)

  • Satellite A300 - Windows 7 causing overheating

    Hey all,
i have a toshi A300/y01 (psagca - 02y010) and have recently upgraded to windows 7 64bit , since upgrading i've been unable to find a toshiba power saver utility that is compatible with win 7, and my pc has been getting alot hotter then it did a few days ago under vista, i've been into power options and configured power plan to maximum performance under heating, tho is no change. also when i turn the pc on the fan does not seem to do its test spin as fast as it did.
There is still hot air coming from the vent on the left, and hasn't shutdown due to exessive heat, tho have not heard the fan kick in like it used to and laptop base and hand rests are getting alot hotter then they ever have before.
Have been to a few diff forums that suggest varying things like fan.exe tho from other comments i've read it doesn't seem to recognise toshiba fans, am planning on pulling the base off in the next few days and checking dust build up, tho this may explain raised heat doesn't explain why fan is working differently under new OS and why heat has jumped up so much coinciding with the change.
If anyone has any suggestions pls help!

I have European Satellite A300-1LI and last week I installed Win7 as clean installation, no update.
I must say that notebook runs well and I didn't notice much difference to Vista. Notebook runs pretty quiet. I must also say that my notebook is Win7 supported and I have installed Win7 VAp that includes Toshiba power saver.
Have you checked Toshiba download page for your country? Is your notebook model fully supported for Win7?
Try to use balanced power plan. Performance will be reduced but also CPU and graphic activity and I presume notebook will not produce so much heat as under high performance power plan where the hardware is is request to run on maximum level.
If the Toshiba power saver is installed on your notebook you can find it on same place as under Vista. There you can change settings for cooling method.

  • Satellite A300-1EG - after upgrade to Vista Premium missing some options

Floor of year back I have bought the laptop Toshiba SATELLITE A300-1EG (Short Model No PSAG4E) . Because of some problems it was necessary to reinstall Windows.
When bought in the laptop stood Windows Vista Home. Now to me have established Windows Vista Ultimate. A problem with some drivers, I can not adjust brightness and sharpness of the screen, and screen prompts do not work. Writes "or for screen prompt the updated video card is required, or the video card compatible with Direct3D" is required.
    Help please!

    Hello
This sound like that you have forgotten to install the display driver or did you install it?
I think you should visit the Toshiba European website and download the display driver:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com => Support & Downloads => Download Drivers
It should not be a problem to install it. Just follow the screen instructions. ;)

  • Lenovo z510 windows 10 upgradation issue

Hey there... once again I'm back with another issue on z510. Guess as long as it's with me, it's not gonna stop creating problems for me. But, I'm still madly in love with this machine, SORRY my machine. Actually, got this windows 10 upgrade reservation message earlier, so I did reserve it, and later, after it got released I tried upgrading it. Including today this was 6'th time I let my computer do upgrading process. Every time after it has done complete upgrading, it reverts back to 8.1 I dont get any error message, no compatibility issues.. What could be causing this...? And how am I gonna deal with this, any idea, anybody out there...? I tried to upgrade thru usb  also, and then it was started in win 10. It made me so happy.. But soon after doing all sign up and other setting, when I restarted it... same it was back to windows 8.1 after a long hold of dark black screen. Thanks in adv..

    1) Microsoft makes true its promise on that department. No issues there. You just upgrade and login via MS account. But if you wan't to be really safe (or you would be installing manually) you can recover your OEM key by using third party programs. You can google it your self but for reference I use a program called OEMkey (convenient huh?).
    2) I'm not sure but Onekey recovery is a standalone feature of the laptop so it doesn't matter what OS you have. As long as the partition is not damaged you can, in theory, always recover your laptop. The downsize is that the hidden partition will only install back to windows 8 (not even 8.1). A solution to this would be to create a backup image of your current OS using the Onekey Recovery program (hope you didn't uninstalled it, but then you can always download the latest version). Downside is that it's gonna take up at least 30GB of space (if OS only without the other programs)

  • Satellite A300 - windows freezes

    Dear forum users,
I am having 1 Satellite A300 laptop with vista on.
recently o observed, if i right click on any icon on the desktop, the system freeze to respond and the circle of vista keep on spinning.
if i pressed again and again, the dialogue box "programme stopped working, close/restart/wait option" is appearing.
after restart, all windows sidebar's gadget, yahoo messenger icons are appearing in the taskbar down ( which normally does not appear in task bar)and they are again not responding to close/ minimize/maximize anything from the taskbar.
    can anybody diagnosis the disease?

this also i have done , but in vain.
additionally, from yesterday, i am not getting wirless network detected by my laptop.
wirless button is switched on. my mobile which is kept just beside laptop, getting connected with my wireless router, but laptop is telling "no wireless detected"
i tried to format and re installed OS, but the system colud not format because the recovery folder stored in hard disk has something missing.
recovery folder normally contains image file, how a single file can be missed from image file is also a mistery.
now do i have any other option left apart from using recovery disc?
using recovery disc will lead me a severe problem because i have created 2 other partition and saved alot of work on those partition, and recovery disc is going to remove the total (my created) partition and will bring the only partition given by manufacturer.

  • Satellite A300 - Windows Vista restarts on shutdown

I have just done HDD recovery on Satellite A300, Vista and it gives me problems when i try to shut it down, it just restarts. It doesn't matter if it is on battery or plugged in.I did update on BIOS, did te setup in Power options but still the same problem. I do have non working WiFi and network card, if somebody thinks that might be the problem. Any and all inputs are welcome.
    Thanks

I have done the Recovery and without installing the new software it started with the problem of restart instead of shutdown. I'm having this laptop for over two years and am thrilled with it. this is the first real problem that i am having.
I did not connect it to the internet, didn't do any updates for my network card and WIFI is off .
What kind of testing should i do?
Right After the installation i shut it down, the only time it worked and the next time i tried it just restarted. And between those two points passed few minutes,no extra software installed.

  • SCOM 2012 R2 Post upgrade issues

    Hey all,
yesterday we upgraded our SCOM environment from 2012 SP1 to R2.  All of the installers ran fine without any issues.  After a couple reboots it was back up however we have run into some issues.
Issue 1:  The ACS seems to be broken.  I can usually run a query on the ACS database manually and get back audit entries.  However, now I am getting nothing back at all.  Here are the errors that are repeated every few minutes on both
management servers.  I did run the ACS upgrade on them both yesterday.

I am going to update this post.  The service is still crashing nightly.  The views dvAll, dvAll5 and dvHeader are not being created.  I tried the fix provided by the Microsoft rep and it did nothing.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled
the ACS server multiple times and the views are never created.  When I start the ACS services I get the same errors.
AdtServer encountered the following problem during startup:

  • Post Upgrade issue

    Hello Gurus,
we are upgarding SAP from 4.6c to ECC 6.0.
As a part of post upgarde activities , i am executing SU25 2(B)-(D) steps.
While analysing SU25 2(b) step, i had found that few authorization objects which are checked in 46c version and not found in SU24 proposal in new version.
    For example:
for transaction CG02 , in 46c sU24 proposal authorization objects C_SHEP_TPP is check/maintain, whereas in ECC version this authorization object doesnot appear in the SU24 proposal of CG02 transaction.
Also there are few objects which are check maintain in R3 version and Do not check in the new version for the same transaction.
How should i get the same SU24 values in ECC version as in R/3 version ?
This is my first upgrade project, iam very much confused with these inconssitencies, any help is very much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Sanketh.

I have found all such type of Conflicting tcodes and sent for client approval.
Meanwhile, iam doing Su25 2(B) for remianing transactions, i had a doubt here the SAP defaults for R/3 are  not the same as in the ECC version, Suppose for transaction /SAPSMOSS/QM12
Authorization objects PLOG ,PABAP,P_ORGXX,S_dataset,S_develop are maintained as check in R/3 whereas in ECC the SAP defaults for these objects are Check No.
Whether i should change the proposal to Check Yes in ECC version or maintain the SAP Defaults as it is in ECC version.
Will it affect to be any authorization issue, please clarify.
    Thanks,
    Sanketh.

  • Re: Satellite P - Windows Media Center issue

Without any visible virus problems or bug threats Windows Media Center starts to crack out in video release.
Simply random loosing pixels on a screen, and all other similar programs such as wmp, vlc media player, mv2 and Intervideo Win DVD working correctly?

I don't know what notebook model do you have exactly and what is wrong there but if you want to have well working Media Centre install OS using delivered recovery media.
After doing this it will work properly.
Maybe you have installed some codecs or some third part application that can have negative influence on WMC functionality. To be honest your posting doesnt offer some relevant info to this issue and it is not possible to say for sure what is wrong there.

  • WIndows 10 upgrade issues - HP Utility Centre missing shortcuts

I upgraded my HP ENVY 17-j171sa Leap Motion TS SE Notebook PC (ENERGY STAR), Product no F5D36EA#ABU to Windows 10 from WIndows 8.1 on 4th August 2015, since upgrading the HP Utility Centre no longer shows all the shortcuts that were on the previous version.  Prior to upgrading , I followed HP's guidance to update software & drivers and updated the HP Utility Centre to version 2.5.3 from the HP product support homepage (http://support.hp.com/gb-en/product/HP-ENVY-17-j100-Leap-Motion-TS-SE-Notebook-PC-series/5442842/model/6771256/drivers ) which was supposed to provide the following fixes & enhancements:-- Fixes an issue where HP Utility Center does not detect Beats Audio properly.
    - Fixes an issue where HP Utility Center displays the incorrect language.
    - Fixes an issue where HP e-Service does not display properly in HP Utility Center (HPUC).
    - Fixes an intermittent issue where HP SmartFriend does not display properly in HP Utility Center (HPUC). I went back to the HP product support homepage after upgrading to search for an updated Windows 10 version of HP Utility Centre and couldn't find one. I also used the HP Support Assistant and checked for updates and it says there are no updates available. Please provide an update to HP Utility Centre for Windows 10 which fixes the same problems as the updated Windows 8.1 version 2.5.3 above and also provides links to BEATS Audio, HP Documentation, HP SimplePass, HP Cool Sense, HP Recovery Manager & HP Support Assistant which was on the previous version of HP Utility Centre. Thanks

Your drive starts showing red after a certain percentage full, however 74GB of free space is plenty to install Windows 10.
After you run the disc cleanup the first time the dialogue will come back and have a button that says clean up system files, click the and run it again and make sure you clean out all your update junk, and temp instalation files, as well as any old instalation files. This will also clean out everything from your filed w10 downloads and installs, then you can try again fresh.
On one of my PCs it failed twice but I just reran the setup and the 3rd time it worked without me doing anything different.
Another option it to back up all your important files to your external, reset your pc to factory settings so you have a fresh clean install, then upgrade from there. I did this 2 weeks or so ago to prepare for Windows 10 so I would be upgrading from a fresh install of 7.

  • Satellite L750 - Windows 8 Upgrade - DVD Drive Missing

I upgraded to Windows 8, after a short while I found the DVD wasn't displayed in windows explorer and devices. I had seen this before on another laptop and installing the Win 8 SATA drivers seemed to cure it.
I have gone to the driver section on the Toshiba site for this model and there are none for SATA. Can anyone point me in the right direction for a fix or the Win 8 SATA drivers for this model please?

  • Post upgrade issues from Timezone setting

    Everyone,
We just upgraded from 4.5 -> version 6.0 SP1 (so we first upgraded the data to 4.5 WS then to version 6)
After the upgrade, we saw the web service registration to have the send timezone setting to portlet as checked for all the portlets that were upgraded/migrated.
Then after the DB upgrade, we saw some portlets not displaying because of a person's time zone setting. This went a step further and there are users who reported that they can't access the change locale settings page or even add portlets to their page.
A PT spy of the users experience showed this particular error: com.plumtree.portalpages.browsing.portalsettings.localesettings.LocaleSettingsView     LocaleSettingsView::Display An error occured when trying to display the HTML.
System.InvalidCastException: Specified cast is not valid.
    at com.plumtree.portalpages.browsing.portalsettings.localesettings.LocaleSettingsModel.GetTimeZoneSetting() in e:\buildroot\Release\portalui\6.0.x\ptwebui\portalpages\dotnet\prod\src\com\plumtree\portalpages\browsing\portalsettings\localesettings\LocaleSettingsModel.cs:line 192
    at com.plumtree.portalpages.browsing.portalsettings.localesettings.LocaleSettingsView.Display() in e:\buildroot\Release\portalui\6.0.x\ptwebui\portalpages\dotnet\prod\src\com\plumtree\portalpages\browsing\portalsettings\localesettings\LocaleSettingsView.cs:line 59
I noticed that the cast error originates from the GetTimeZoneSetting() method. This led me to believe that some values in the DB were unexpected. True enough, I noticed that for the strTimeZone preference some users has a value of 1/-1 and the PrefValueType is set to 3 (instead of 8). After modifying this we resolve the issue and the users could proceed as normal.
My question is that has anyone else experienced a similar issue(or is this just specific to our environment)? Also is there a list of settings/preference you need to check for data integrity after an upgrade? Thanks!

I experienced an issue similar to this once. I don't know if it was exactly the same because it was a 4.5 to 5.x upgrade done a couple years ago, but it sounds like pretty much the same thing. I also tracked it down to a pref problem in the database. I had to manually fix the bad values, but that resolved the problem, and that was the only problem of that type I encountered. That doesn't mean you won't find anything else strange with your upgrade, but it seemed to be a strange isolated incident to me. I have done many upgrades since that time, and never encountered the problem again. I would suspect that if you have fixed all the database records that were affected by this, then you are probably OK.

  • "The feature you are trying ot use...." iTunes post upgrade issue

    Hi,
Tried to download the automatic upgrade for Quicktime & iTunes. Something went wrong I guess.
When I try to open iTunes now, it gives me an error message that says "This action is only valid for products taht are currently installed."
If I try to uninstall iTunes (through Control Panel), or run the upgrade program again through Quicktime (which works fine), or try to run a brand new setup file for iTunes, I get a Windows Installer dialog that states "The feature you are trying ot use is on a network resource that is unavailable."
It then gives me the option for which source to use for the installation package 'iTunes.msi'
I've tried putting in both the iTunes.msi and the iTunesSetupAdmin.msi in there, both of which result in saying that the path for iTunes.msi cannot be found.
I am the only user on this computer, and have Admin privedges. Any ideas?

Solved problem myself after over an hour of googling/searching these forums for answer:
The reason this wasn't working, it seems, is because while upgrading I didn't click "Accept" on the user agreement, and restarted the computer before accepting. I tried playing a file that is associated to open with iTunes (which isn't my default mp3 player), and a dialog popped up for me to accept the agreement. Clicked accept, iTunes immediately started working.
Feel real dumb now, hope this thread helps someone else one day.
