Satellite C660D - high Processor temperature

Hi
I have recently had high readings on my C660D-14W its sometimes hitting 91 degrees not all the time mostly between 55 degrees Celsius to 70 degrees Celsius. I was thinking of taking it to a technician because it could be full of dust and Im not able to open the case. The odd thing is I have been using for about a week or two with these high readings and I have not randomly shut down once which is normal a big symptom for this Im not sure to waist the money on a technician but Im not prepared to use a hoover or anything to dust it and compressed air would just push it more inside.
I got a quote on taking all the hardware out and dusting its not loads but Im really not sure if I should take it to a technician if I have had no freezes or random shutdowns at all. I did have one freeze while I was stressing the computer at one point and that was about 2 weeks ago since I have been using it for everyday activities such as videos, music and email accounts and no freezes, random shutdowns or random restarts so what gives. Also I have noticed a bit of high pitched noise so I think the fan has a problem its very faint though so Im not sure if my laptop has always given this noise out.
If anyone could help me on this matter that would be great, I may take it to a technician anyway because Im worried I will fry the CPU, I think its been like playing with fire using it for the last 2 weeks.
Kind Regards
Rine

Hi
The CPU temperature can increase running high performance applications like games, videos, etc
This is nothing unusual
The temperature between 55C 70C is normal level.
91C is high but I doubt it appears always possibly this level would be reached in cases the CPU would be stressed a lot
However, the cooling modules should be cleaned from time to timeIm doing this very often and I could recommend using an compressed air spray to get dust removed.

  • High processor temperatures?

I've bought a new Hp G6-2220sl and it's working fine. The only problem I've seen are the temperatures of CPU.
I've installed CPUIDHWMonitor and all temperatures are fine except the one in Amd A6-4400M in "Package" section.
It says it's 80-90 °C even if I'm not doing anything, only desktop opened. The computer isn't hot, it's normal, first use, but I can't understand that temperature.
    O.S.: WIN8
    CPU: AMD A6-4400M
    RAM: 6GB
    HD: 500GB TOSHIBA SATA DISK
GRAPHICS: AMD RADEON HD7520+7670M DUAL GRAPHICS
    Could someone help me?
    Thanks a lot.

I also have this problem since Yosemite upgrade. Infuriating because I can't just read incoming emails anymore. It seems to be specific to one email account and doesn't necessarily cause a problem with others. When this happens, (showing the content for a second then disappearing), there is a segmentation fault reported in the error log.
For me, this is a category one critical business problem. If I can't read and reply to incoming email reliably on my computer, I will need to switch to another system or device that can.

Good news is that the email app does seem to work a bit quicker than before using Mavericks where it could hang for 10-20 seconds for no particular reason.
Hope this can be fixed or a workaround posted soon.

I use the imac mainly for editing Video which when doing so it has reached temperatures of near to 60° C which causes the program to become unstable and needs to be cooled down to operate correctly.
An Apple technician (by phone) advised me to download an smcfancontrol.  This allows each individual fan to increase speed and also advises the current temperature at °C.  The smcfancontrol has been downloaded but this has not resolved the problem.  By increasing the speed of the fan more heat is generated and creates additional noise.
I have since taken the iMac to an Apple Store for examination as suggested by APPLECARE when the fans were found to be working correctly.  An Apple Store technician carried out a test, but not whilst working under the pressure of FINAL CUT PRO when the iMac generates a high temperature.
The Temperature Specification  for this model is
    Operating Temperature 20 °c to 35°C
    Storage Temp.47°c
Clearly the temperature my iMac  is operating at is excessive and could cause the computer to break down prematurely.  Has anyone experienced this problem.

When was the last time you cleaned/vacuumed out all of your iMac's vents, slots and ports.
You need to do this with the iMac powered down, disconnected from power and everything disconnected.
Lay your iMac, screen down, on a soft surface, like a heavy towel. Use a small electronics vac, or portable or full size vac with hose and a crevice tool attachment and carefully and slowly vacuum every vent, slot and port on your iMac.
Then reconnect everything up, power up and download and install iStat Pro. Start working, then report the temps of your iMac after this has been done.
When using SMCFan Control, it is important not to run the fans at too high an RPM. This doesn't generate heat on its own, but will suck in more dust, lint and dirt into your iMac, and that will be the cause of additonal increases in heat.
I run my fans in the range of 1400-1600 RPMs. You can go as high as 1800 RPMs but it is important to keep the RPM range below either 1800 or below 2000 RPMs.
I, also, run a very small desktop fan pointed toward the upper back of my iMac to keep temps down even further.

  • Can high cpu temperature melt processor?

Hallo, mayby stupid question, but i was just wondering, if high temperature inside my macbook air (2012 i5) can melt my processor or something like that...
I am talking about 85 C continuosly1 or max 2 hours per day at cpu (oc course not every day) :/ i dont want to demage my mac...
    Thx for any answers.

High enough temperatures can melt anything, but your mackbook air is designed to operate continuously, with fans to manage CPU temp.  As long as you are in an environment where the air temperature is within standard (10 to 35C), your macbook is fine.

  • Satellite A100 - high temperature

    Hello,
I have an A100 less than one year old and I noticed from the beginning that it has a tendency to be very hot (I almost get burned just putting my hand below the on/off button.
At first I didn't bother too much but now it's getting worse. I have run an Everest test and it says 89C for the processor temperature?!
    Please advise.
    Thanks and best regards

    Hi
Well what to say... in fact the temperature is a little bit high but the notebook supports an overheating protection and should shuts down automatically if the temperature increases the critical level.
You said the temperature is higher on the notebook side where the power button is placed??
This is nothing unusual because on this notebook side the cooling modules and the CPU are placed.
There is an air circulation and the warm air flows outside.
The notebook bottom and the side are always warmer as the other notebook case parts.
Therefore it's not advisable to use the notebook on the knees but only on the desk!!
You should always be sure that there is enough free space around the notebook for properly fresh air circulation.
You know, after one year of working the dust and debris could has a bad influence on the fan rotation and notebook cooling.
Maybe it's necessary to clean the cooling modules professionally. In such case you should ask a technician for the help!

  • Satellite C660D-13Q - drivers for Windows XP needed

    Hello
    Got Toshiba Satellite C660D-13Q (PSC1YE).
In BIOS I've changed SATA Controler Mode from AHCI to Compatibility to make installation of Windows XP possible. In AHCI mode during installation I'm getting Blue Screen all the time.
(By the way - is it possible to install Win XP on SATA Controler Mode switched to AHCI?)
I've installed Windows XP SP3 and I need drivers, especially for Bluetooth - I tried file BT-stack-toshiba.zip (after unpacking: v80012T_20110809_x32.exe size: 38 786 027 bites) from Toshiba servers but it doesn't work.
I can find drivers only for Windows 7 (32 or 64bit) - why Toshiba doesn't support Windows XP - some applications and games still don't work on Windows 7 and I guess never will.
Is there any chipset/APU driver needed for this notebook as it is based on the new Fusion processor, which combine the CPU and GPU into a single processor architecture known as an APU (CPU AMD E-240 and GPU AMD HD 6310)?

    >In AHCI mode during installation I'm getting Blue Screen all the time.
(By the way - is it possible to install Win XP on SATA Controler Mode switched to AHCI?)
Of course this is possible. This forum contains lot of threads about this theme.
I found also this Toshiba document:
+How to integrate a SATA AHCI driver in a Windows XP Setup CD+
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB85017Z0000R01.htm
It seems to be AMD A50M Chipset and the SATA (AHCI driver) should be part of the AMD Radeon HD 6250 Graphics chip (code AMD HUDSON M1)
However, I agree with user above: the Win XP is more or less past and Win 7 and in the next time Win 8 would be the OS which is supported.
    >some applications and games still don't work on Windows 7 and I guess never will.
Therefore Win 7 supports the compatibility mode which allows to run the older software in the Win XP compatibility mode

  • Re: Satellite C660D-102 - How to copy Windows on DVD?

Hello people. I have bought a new Toshiba Satellite C660D-102.
The seller told me to copy Windows on DVDs soon to open the laptop. Do not know where to take the Windows installation files. You've encountered this problem? How can I fix this problem.

    Hey,
I think the seller did mean creating the Toshiba recovery disk that contains an image of factory settings. In case you cant start Windows anymore or the HDD must be replaced you can use this disk to restore Windows with all drivers and tools. With other words you get factory settings back, the same settings as you purchased the notebook so its very useful and easy.
You can create this disk if you start Toshiba recovery media creator that is preinstalled on your computer. Depending on the installation you need some blank DVD mediums. I would recommend high quality mediums, Typ: DVD-R from Verbatim or TDK. They work good and other users here can recommend them too.
Last but not least you should also read your user manual. It contains interesting information about this and other interesting things. Its also preinstalled on your notebook. :)
But its really great the seller gave you a hint about this. If you check other forum threads you will read about lot of other users they forget to create this disk and are not able to restore factory settings if Windows failed to start.

  • High System Temperature

    Hi,
I am running Arch Linux with XFCE4. My system is really high on temperature which forces fan to run 24X7 and hence poor battery life. I usually get 45-50 degree Celsius on windows but i am getting around 65 with just browser open on Arch. I have configured TLP, Powertop (would be nice if it could permanently save its recommendation), thinkfan and power regression solution suggested by phoronix. I have a Thinkpad T420.

What processor and video chip do you have? Are you using a spinning-disk hard drive or an SSD?
Also, how do you have your sensors configured?
Thanks for replying. I have Thinkpad T420i (4177CTO) with i7 Dual Core 2620M 2.7 Ghz Intel processor, 8 GB RAM, Intel HD 3000 (integrated) and Nvidia NVS 4200 1 Ghz GPU, and 500 GB 7200 RPM spinning-disk hard drive.
I mostly tried these two webpages to setup thinkfan/sensors.
    http://thinkpad-wiki.org/Thinkfan#Keine … nel_2.6.38
    http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p= … ostcount=3
Installed lm_sensors and ran sensor-detect to locate sensors using command find /sys/devices -type f -name "temp*_input"
I have thinkpad_acpi, tp_smapi, coretemp in modules section of rc.conf and thinkfan in daemons.
Installed thinkfan and added options thinkpad_acpi fan_control=1 to /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.d.conf and created /etc/defualt/thinkfan with START=yes
I have TLP installed and added it to daemons.
I came from Ubuntu due to heat problems. I think this laptop suffers from power regression issues. I updates to grub2 and added pcie_aspm=force to /etc/default/grub but i couldn't do sudo update-grub but pcie_aspm=force seems to have replicated itself to kernel line of grub.cfg
I have ran Powertop. I wish if i could make it permanent.
    Thanks.

    Hi
Your notebook supports the Realtek 802.11(b/g/n) RTL8188CE WLan chip.
First of all you should check the control panel -> software are
Check if there is something installed related to Realtek Wlan driver.
If yes, then uninstall this piece of software firstly.
If you will not find any Realtek Wlan software there, I recommend downloading the driver from here:
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/wlan/?page=downloads
The latest available version seems to be 1005.19.0420.2011
    feedback would be appreciated...

  • Satellite C660D-1GD: no sound and Red Cross over speaker

Just turned on my Laptop, Satellite C660D - 1GD and my sound isn't working.
There is a red cross over the speaker and the diagnosis didn't help at all.
Tried a system restore, nothing - no change at all. Tried going through the system drivers and there is no driver for sound :o. Ok, came to this site, downloaded the correct driver, installed and restarted and nothing again :s .
Updated the BIOS and then went into and checked the BIOS, and even checked for simple sound to just have my time wasted. Any help would be great.
    Thanks in advance.

    _Firstly:_
Did you check if mute isnt enabled?
Press FN + ESC to enable or disable mute
    _Secondly:_
Go to control panel -> sound -> Playback tab
Check if the devices in the playback tab are activated and set as default device
Additionally click right to ensure that options are marked like; show hidden devices, show disabled devices
    _Thirdly:_
The sound card is from Realtek.
So you can download the Realtek HD audio driver from Realtek driver page
Before installing new driver, uninstall installed Realtek driver from control panel -> programs & features

Can I download a booting sequence to use on a USB?

    Hi
It looks like something happened to your HDD. Maybe its faulty, or maybe just the system partition is corrupt.
Well, in best case you need to install the system again.
If you dont have the recover disk, you could order this here:

  • High processor use and blank messages in Yosemite mail

    Hello
I am noticing very high processor use from Yosemite Mail, and I am also having problems with blank messages.
Under Mavericks, I had a problem where I double click on a mail message to open it.  The message would flash on the screen for a moment and then disappear.  The message in my inbox would be marked as read.  I could then open it again and read it normally.  Over time, I tracked this down as having to do with Mail doing anything else when I requested to open the email.  For instance, if I delete a message and then immediately try to open the next message, the problem would occur.  If I waited 5 seconds or so, then opened the next message, the problem would not occur.
Now, under Yosemite, I find that if I open a message quickly after performing another task, the message window is blank and never fills in.  I can close that message window and open it again, it may work, or it may still be blank.  I have found where certain messages appear to be stuck and will open blank until I open a different message and then come back to the problem message.
I have also noticed that Mail under Yosemite appears to use very high percentages of processor time.   Checking the activity monitor, Mail is third behind WindowServer and kernel_task for processor usage.  And I have another question on the community about my system running hot with the fan spooling up and down constantly under Yosemite, something that almost never happened under any of the previous OS's going back to Snow Leopard.
Any idea what is going on with the Mail app in Yosemite?  I was excited about Mail finally advancing in capability, but it seems to have come at a cost.....  Come on Apple - Mail needs to catch up with Outlook!

  • Can't enable my NIC on my new Satellite C660D-10M

    Hy there,
My laptop (Toshiba Satellite C660D-10M) came with Free-DOS. I have installed WIndows 7 and all the required drivers from Toshiba website except the driver for my Network Adapter. I can't go to the Internet because of this!
    From this page: http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp?service=EU
    I enter the correct info:
    Notebook - Satellite - Satellite C Series - C660D - PSC0WE - Windows 7 32bit.
    A) There are no CHIPSET drivers for my laptop here? But i think they are merged with the DISPLAY DRIVER and i could install only them.
    B) LAN DRIVER - after installing this driver, in my DEVICE MANAGER -> Network Controller has a question mark and is not installed.
Checked BIOS - it is enabled.
Uninstalled, found my NIC SPecific driver on realtek website. Realtek RTL8139/810X Family Fast Ethernet. -> Installed the driver for win7, ----- NOTHING!!!
I don't know what to do next?
    Please can you help me?

You are right about chipset driver. By AMD based notebooks it is integrated with display driver.
The same LAN card has Satellite C660D PSC0UE so the right Win7 32bit LAN driver you can find HERE . It must work. All offered drivers are tested.
Please test it and send some feedback.
    Have you installed WLAN driver?
Be sure unknown device in device manager list is definitely related to LAN and not WLAN card.

  • No wireless on Satellite C660d-14W after clean Win 7 intsallation

    Hello,
I bought a toshiba satellite c660d-14w off a friend, and reinstalled a clean copy of windows 7 x64.
After installing, the laptop didn't recognize any hardware (graphics, sound, wireless network card) so I've been slowly trying to install all the drivers for them all.
However, no matter what I install for the wireless, it just doesn't seem to work.
Have installed the realtek RTL8188CE driver, the wireless lan driver from the Toshiba website, and have set the network connections service to auto and restarted it and still nothing.
In device manager, under network adapters, I have two entries:
    Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller
    Realtek RTL8188CE Wireless LAN 802.11n PCI-E NIC
Both say they are working correctly and have the latest drivers but I have no access to wireless, the icon doesn't show in the tray, and i just get a generic error message from windows when trying to manually set it up.
    Please help!

Try to use the command ipconfig /renew in the cms (command dos box)
    Also try this:
Control Panel > Administration Tools > Computer Management > Services & Applications > Services.
Scroll down this list to find 'WLAN Auto Config'
Double click on 'WLAN Auto Config' On the general tab, select from the start up type drop down menu, select 'Automatic'. Under Service Status click on 'Start'. Then 'Apply' these settings and exit from all open control panel windows.
Otherwise uninstall the Realtek driver in the device manager.
    Then reboot the notebook.
Download the Realtek WLan driver again and install it.

    hi ppl,
I bought my new Satellite C660D few weeks ago. Its great to work with it, but the damn A-key is broken since I've got it. What I have to do to solve that problem? Do I need a whole new keyboard? If i do, could I have another keyboard, which has a POS1-key and not that num-block ? Who could I ask about that?
    sry 4 my english :( i'm from Germany but I hope u understand what i want :D
    thank u!
