Satellite S3000-X4 Power Up Issue.

I've been given a S3000-X4 to look at, and I can't seem to find the problem. (I've searched these Forums, and Google prior to posting this, and can't seem to find a result)
The Machine won't turn on.
I've had the original PSU in, Battery, DVD-Drive and Memory. If I hit the power button the device appears to try to start up, the hard-disk whir noise, the power light and the HD light illuminate green (the AC power is already illuminated), this happens for about 5 seconds, then it all stops and just leaves me with the AC power light.
I've tried using another PSU with the same output (Voltage and Amps), and the same thing happens.
I removed the Battery, just on AC, and again the same. This too after the DVD-Rom was removed, and even I remove the Memory and gave it a wipe incase it was a faulty connection.
When the battery is connected, I get a flashing Orange (approx 4 seconds off 1 second on) I guess that is the battery charging? Althought my own Acer Notebook, when it is charging it stays static, I don't know if Toshiba's indicate differently.
If I just have the battery connected, and no AC power it won't start at all, so I'm thinking the battery is dead, and the flashing errors maybe saying the battery isn't charging, but with it not working on AC only, it is confusing me.
The Toshiba was working ok at one point, then the next day they went to turn it on, and it just wouldn't turn on. I thought it might hiberated, but I can't seem to find a button that brings it back from hibernation. (If that is the issue)
Can anybody shed any light on this problem, as I would like to help my friend before he has to shed out any money on repairs. (If the wants to get it repaired at all, after all the price of notebooks/laptops are so cheap now, it might be worth while buying a new one)
Regards.

Hi Paul,
from your description of the symptoms I would suspect a faulty mainboard. As you rightly say, the notebook should power up without the battery in place so I think that can be eliminated as a possible cause.
Having removed/cleaned the RAM modules and also the optical drive there is only the hard drive left and even if this had failed it should still be possible to power on the notebook.
regards,

  • Satellite A60-106 power up issue

I have a A60 with a massive power up problem. It's a A60-106. The problem is that when i press the power button and it starts up great it wotks perfectly when i shut down and go back to it i have to press the power button about 50 times before it will power up the led light are on but nobody is at home.
I have tried everything but no success when it works there is no problem, it runs great. I am a pc techy and can't get to the bottom of it.
    Can any one help?
    cheers

    Hi
In this case its not easy to say why it occurs and what the problem can be. For me it sounds like something wrong with the power button contacts.
But I can give you a precise answer.
I dont know if your warranty is valid but if yes, so you should ask the ASP for the help. You shouldnt open the notebook because you will loose the warranty.

  • Power on-Power off issues with X200

I am having power up and power down issues with my Lenovo X200.
Prior to the immediate problem, I would experience occasional unexpected shutdown of the computer (I would hear a relay click when it happened), and on some occasions when I put it into hibernation, then power it back up later it would not resume, instead, it would restart with a new session of Windows.
About a month ago, it shut down while I was using it.  I powered it back on, but it took a long time (nearly a minute) to get the “ThinkPad” initial boot screen, then the screen would be blank for about a minute, then I would get a screen that read, “Intel Management Engine BIOS Extension v 4.0.4.0007” and also “M.E Initializing……”   That screen would show for about a minute, then I got another screen reading “Security chip is generating endorsement key pair.  Please wait.”  That screen would show for about 5 minutes, then it would read, “Generation failed!!!” for about 5 seconds.  After that, it would boot to Windows (I am using Windows 7 Professional).
When I would shut it down, either in hibernate mode or full shutdown, after the hard drive icon stopped flashing (indicating it had shut down), the power icon, battery icon would stay on, and the “sleep” icon would flash.  I would have to hold the power button down to turn those icons off; if I failed to do that the power would stay on until the battery completely drained.
I read something about the “Security chip is generating endorsement key pair” message so I went into BIOS and changed the security chip from “Active” to “Inactive”.  However, when I would start the computer with the chip “inactive”, it would go first to the initial boot screen, then to the “M.E. Initializing” message, then the screen would go blank and remain blank, not ever booting to Windows.  So I went back to BIOS and changed the security chip to “Disabled”.  With it disabled, it will boot up, but still is very slow booting and I still get that “M.E. Intializing” message for about a minute, and also I still have to hold the power button down to power down the computer after I shut it down (or hibernate) with Windows.
The good news is that, after this started happening, I have not encountered an unexpected shutdown nor has it failed to resume the previous windows session if I hibernate it.
Any suggestions?  Thanks in advance for your help.

The difference may be that the G5 iMac bus (where your fire wire plugs into the back) is a powered bus. What this means is the LaCie drive will "sense" the power from the bus and not turn off. The power it gets from the fire wire bus however may (is) not be enough to actually operate it, only leave it on. You still need to the drive into a power outlet.
In the LaCie manual (CD that comes with drive) and the FAQ section of LaCie's web page it states this as well.
What I do is manually turn the drive on when needed (performing back up or for scheduled back up). The LaCie drive should be quiet when not in use as it has no fan.
PS - try SuperDuper for backups, much better (IMHO) than Silverkeeper.

  • Power Mac G5 DP1.8GHz - Bad Logic Board or Power Management Issue?

I have a Power Mac G5 DP1.8GHz/1.5GB/80GB which I bought non-working. It has not yet been disassembled or examined by a certified tech. This is it's issue (which replicates): the computer powers on. It makes a single warning tone, then the LED flashed at least 15 times (too fast to count). Then the posting chord is heard. Hard drive spins up. Then nothing (no video). Won’t boot from any disk. I have changed the RAM and tested the RAM banks with known-to-be-good RAM from another DP1.8GHz G5. The warning tone stopped once or twice after this switch, but then it didn’t chime. I changed the PRAM battery, but not with as new one. However, after installing the used one and then resetting the PMU, it displayed video briefly for the first time. While installed in the other 1.8GHz G5, the hard drive was formatted, given a clean install of OS X 10.4.11, and then moved into this computer where is never mounts. The computer is not accessible through TDM.
Do I have a bad logic board? Bad CPUs? A power managment issue? A RAM issue?

Through my own trial and error troubleshooting, I have found the CPUs to be in good working order and the logic board passes the Apple Service Diagnostic every time. Despite the installation of numerous pairs of modules that worked in another DP1.8GHz, the computer has a RAM issue-it gives the "no good RAM" tone most of the time when it powers up (after a PMU reset it does not). Also the computer boots from disk or into Open Firmware but the disk utility can't see either hard drive so I may have a bad SATA controller.

Did you try downgrading to 3.11 to see if that helps ? Looks like other people may be having similar issues - see the later posts in this thread here .
That was originally about a issue with suspends on 3.11 i386 only that was fixed in 3.12. But the last few posts seem to indicate a different issue that started with 3.12.

  • IPhone 5 Power button issues after recent update.

After this most recent update, my power button is not working as it normally does.  It takes two or three attempts to turn the phone off and more than once to turn it.  Sometimes it turns on and immediately turns off.  This is happening only after this update.

Yes 7.1.2  I had a 7.1 backup, and no issues with that... but then I did a clean DL of 7.1.2 and once again with NO apps on the iphone power button issues... as mentioned.  So it is not the apps, nor songs, nor anything else...just 7.1.2  I am now running 7.1  no issues.

  • My Time Capsule has just failed, 2 months after the end of 12m warranty. same old known power supply issue, "just unlucky" says my local Apple service center. ***?

i bought a 2TB Time Capsule in Sep 2010. its just failed last week, less than 2 months after the expiry of the 12month warranty.
and 3 months after the end of Apple's offer to replace all the many Time Capsules that have failed previously due to this same fault.
    nice timing guys.
"yeah, its dead. same old known power supply issue", says my local Apple service center, "just unlucky".
huh? "unlucky"? you sell products with known defects, and when it fails i'm "unlucky". nice.
"OK, anyway, how much to fix it ?", i ask.
"you can't fix them, its closed", is the reply, "you have to buy another one".
"hmpf. OK, how do I get my backed-up data off it ?"
"you can't. we could try break it open and recover the hard disk i guess, but no guarantees we'd get it, and you'd have to pay for us to do that, whether it works or not of course".
"er.... is there a hidden camera in here? are we on TV? you can't be serious ? ..and this piece of garbage is what i've been using for a secure backup of my precious, irreplaceable, priceless personal data  ???"

ceeb28744.  Welcome to the Apple Users Support Community.  Sorry to hear your TC died!  You said it was a 2TB so I would guess it be the model A1355/MB997LL/A or MC344LL/A.  Believe it or not all users of these time capsules will eventually experience this problem like you have.  There is a 99.5% (or better) chance that the only thing that is wrong with it is the internal power supply.  If you will go to this site.... https://sites.google.com/site/lapastenague/a-deconstruction-of-routers-and-modem s/apple-time-capsule-repair  and once there look over at the left side and you will find:
Apple Time Capsule Repairers    and from that list you will be able to choose from a list of individuals that could repair your TC and have it returned to you fully operational again.  The individuals on the list are hardware technicians and they can save you a lot of money and time.

  • Satellite S3000 - Modular Bay HDD

I have a Satellite S3000-400 and am trying to put in place a 30gb 2nd HDD in the modular bay.
I have bought a HDD advertised as suitable for use in the modular bay (part number pa3101u-1h30) but was sent an equivalent Hitachi drive with part number 13g1486.
This drive has arrived without the HDD tray to install it into for inserting into the S3000 modular bay. Two questions
    - Does part pa3101u-1h30 usually come with the HDD already installed in the S3000 tray.
    - What is the part number for the S3000 HDD tray in which I need to install the HDD I have now received (and where can I get one).
    Thanks
    Phil

    Hi Phil,
I should not worry about the make of drive. Toshiba use various makes in their notebooks. They all generically similar in terms of performance and physical dimensions.
I am not sure what country you are in but I suspect that you may need to obtain a drive caddy to fit you S3000. The following is a link to a UK site who may be able to help you :-

  • Network Card turned off and Power regression issues.

    Hello,
Can any one please help me setup wifi/ethernet on my Thinkpad t420? It has Intel Wifi Link 1000 BGN. If i am not wrong it is suppose to work by default. How and what modules do i have to load to turn on my wifi card? I know how to make wpa_supplicant work.
Their are power regression issues with linux kernel. How can i make pacman to not to upgrade to latest kernel releases?
    Thanks.
PS:- I have done research but couldn't come find an answer. Sorry if this question has been asked many times.

Check http://intellinuxwireless.org/?n=Downloads for intel wifi drivers
Pacman should not syncronize system wide missing packages unless specified with the -u [OPTION] on the -S [SYNC] argument, see the man pages on pacman.

Also make sure you have done all the stuff on wireless setup in the beginner guide, it is very comprehensive

  • HT1430 iPhone 4S Power Button Issue

I have an iPhone4S that has fallen to the broken power button issue - is there a way to restart it without the power button? My phone is acting strange and I know if I restart it then it will be ok. I am already using the Accessibility feature to lock the screen, but cannot figure out how to restart it short of letting the battery run out.

I have the same issue.... just hold down the lock screen button on your accessibility menu until it shows you the power down option.  Then plug the charger in & it will automatically turn back on.

  • QIP 7216 power on issue

I have a QIP 7216 settop box connected to the TV via component cables (not HDMI).  Sometimes when I turn the settop on, i get audio, but the video is all black.... If i power the box off, then on again, it's fixed.  If I change channels, it's fixed.... Anyone else experience this?

I don't have a 7216, I have a 6416 with component cables, and I've certainly seen the problem. the easiest fix is to just change the channel, and then change back to the original channel. I haven't seen the problem on 1.6.2, but I've only had it a few days, so that's hardly a valid test.
So I doubt it is an HDMI handshake issue. I suspect it is a firmware issue on the box. I don't doubt that unplugging and waiting 60 seconds fixes it, but that's a major PIA compared to just changing the channel, and then changing back. It is strictly a power on issue, so once it is goes away, it stays away until the box is tuned off again.
Anyway I have come to regard it is a nuisance that is low on the long list of other problems with FiOS DVR boxes.

  • No man power to issue how to map this scanario

    Dear Gurus,
Pls any one provide a solution for this scanario,
Oil is received (say 50000 ton) and stored at one location. There is no man power to issue it from that location.Worker comes there with pail (bucket) and collects oil and go. Over a period, the remaining oil is measured (using dip), if oil goes below the minimum level once again PO raised. How we can map this
into SAP.Its not a pipeline material.
    Regards,
    AnandBalan

    Hi,
    Go through the following steps
1] Assume that today 5000 L of oil is received in the tank.
2] The person collect say 50 L from the tank. Now quantity 50 L is not known to the person who is resposible for stocks because there is no manpower available.
3] But as you stated before, physical stocks can be take with the help of dip.
The person will take dip and will found level 4950. So he will simply issue 50 L ( 5000-50=4950 L).
The same will be continued evereday.
But the problem is how to monitor the stocks and when to procure oil.
For this reason, maintain MRP Type VB with reorder point for example say 1500 L
Continuing the above procedure with stock will reach to the 1500 L, automatically PR will be generated.
With this PR, Procurement cycle will be continued.
    Hope this will help you.
