Saved Search Folder Doesn't Update

I've created a saved search folder, but it's not updating properly when I add new files to my machine. Here are the search terms:
(kMDItemFSName ="*") && (kMDItemFSName !="temp") && (kMDItemFinderComment != "Ignore") && (kMDItemFSCreationDate > $time.today(-30)) && (kMDItemContentType = public.folder)
Occasionally it works, but most of the time it seems stuck showing only folders it'd perviously found.

Something went seriously awry in the date saved in the Raw Query part of user generated SavedSearches. See my reply to this post:
http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=10292658#10292658
What I did was to open my own RecentApps SavedSearch in Property List Editor and replace the faulty RawQuery with the one I copied from Apple's canned search. Not very elegant!
Be sure to let Apple know this is happening to you, and it matters:

The only real fix has to come from them.

  • Search Folder Doesn't Include Items

    Hello,
When I setup a Search Folder to contain From and To Emails for a specific email address, the folders contain the items received from the email address, but not items sent even though all folders are searched within the Mailbox. Office365 Pro Enterprise environment.
Updates for both Win7 and Office have been applied.
    Suggestions?
    Thank you for your support.
    Steve Sr

    Hi,
How did you create the search folder? We can just use the criteria "Mail from and to specific people". It works in my environment.
And then click Choose button to select the specific email address.
If you created a custom folder to contain From and To Emails for a specific email address, please let me know which criteria you chose.
    Best Regards,

  • My Itunes Folder doesn't update with my library...?

I deleted some songs from my itunes library last night and today I was going to move my library to a different computer. But, when I looked at the itunes music folder, it still had the deleted songs in it. I can't move the folder until it exactly matches my itunes library. Does anyone know how I can update the folder?

Deleting from the itunes library index doesn't necessarily delete the songs from your hard drive, as you've found.
It only does this if they are getting deleted from the itunes folder location set up in itunes prefrences > advanced.
Looks like you are going to have to delete those same files using windows explorer.

  • Filtering non required updates from Search Folder

I wish to create a Search Folder for software updates that filters the updates on product, severity, whether it has been superseded or not, whether it has expired and also if it is required or not.
I have managed to create the first four steps fine, but I am having difficulty filtering out non required updates.
Following the instructions provided by Kent Agerlund (http://blog.coretech.dk/kea/creating-a-search-folder-with-all-required-security-updates-in-configuration-manager-2007/) I have selected required in the search folder criteria and added the numbers from
1 to 9 as well as entering ^0 but no results are returned and the search folder is empty.  There are a wide range of PC numbers in our environment from single figures right up to the hundreds where PCs do not require updates so in theory the ^0 should
    work, but it doesn't.
Would anybody be able to point out where this may be going wrong?

I would never use Required filed to filter the updates since you never know when clients would request for update that never requested by any client (assuming you created SU group and later new clients clients requested) .
its always good to download all the updates with the required criteria except required.
Did you try with [^0] ?

  • Af:query saved search not getting deleted.

    hi,
    I have a af:query component in which I am setting saveQueryMode="default".
As per the docs, setting this value to default implies: "default: all saved searches are displayed. In addition any saved search can be created but only user saved searches can be deleted/updated."
I fire a search on the query component and then save it as "mysearch".
I then try to personalize it.
However, here I don't find the Delete button enabled for it.
I want the user saved searches to be deletable.
    Am I missing anything here?
    Thanks.

    Simo,
I guess you have to look for MDS or Meta data service. MDS stores changes to the ui like table layout and query state for each user in a central store (db or file).
To use MDS you must use ADF security as this gives MDS the user ID.
I can't search for more info right now as I'm not in front of my pc. Check the doc for MDS and you find more info.

  • Saved Search - Last Opened Today

Hi. I want to make a Saved Search Folder in Finder, to show my Last Opened Today files. However, I don't want this including all the behind-the-scenes hidden files. I just want it to include the regular stuff that I look at, i.e. Images, Music, Movies, PDFs, Text Documents, Bookmarks, etc.
How do I program my Saved Search Folder to do this?

It's possible, but a little more involved. In Finder, you can do any/or searches if you set up a Raw Query. For more info, read the developer documents:
    Query Expression Syntax
    Spotlight Metadata Attributes
Supposedly, greater support for boolean commands will be part of Leopard.

  • TS4083 Is there a way or a setting my folders in Mail to automatically update across all devices? if I transfer an email to a folder for follow-up on my PC, my folder in Mail on my iPhone doesn't update until I actually go into the folder and update manua

Is there a way (or a setting) for my individual folders in Mail to automatically update across all devices? For example, if I transfer an email to a folder for follow-up on my PC - say 10th of the following month - the same folder in Mail on my iPhone doesn't update until I actually go into the folder and update manually.  Interestingly though, if I create a new folder on any of my devices they automatically appear on the other devices so it is just the actual contents that I am referring to here.  Appreciate any help or guidance.
    Regards
    Justin

You can turn mail off in the settings but then you can't use it for anything, including the "test" that you want to perform.
Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Account Name>Mail>Off. That totally turns off the mail account.
As long as mail is turned on and you launch the app, it will look for an download new mail.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on some Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)

  • Yosemite: Saved search from Spotlight does not work the same

    Hi,
I have various Logic Pro folders throughout my computer and want to create a Saved Search that brings all and only the Logic project files together into one place.
There's a couple of catches: the Logic file extension has changed over the years with the various application updates.
It would be nice to create a Smart Folder/Saved Search with something like File Extension:logic OR File Extension:logicx OR File Extension:lso
However if you just add these search criteria as separate lines, it appears they are "AND" filters so nothing shows up at all.
I seem to remember older versions of Smart Folders allowing you to have much more control over boolean search parameters.
After a bit of online investigation I discovered that you can do some more complex searches using Spotlight and then save it as a Smart Folder or Saved Search.
    In Spotlight I used:
Kind:Logic -.0 -(crashed) -.cst -.pst -.prf -.patch -.logikcs
This cleaned out all the extra unneeded files and backups that are associated with Logic and just displayed only my desired .logic, logicx and .lso files.
Awesome! Then I saved it as a Saved Search in the sidebar.
Which doesn't work. Or at least the extra flags don't work. All I am seeing is the Kind:Logic again.
This is how the Spotlight search translates across into the Saved Search window (I can scroll across to see the extra flags). Any good ideas or workable solutions? Thx!

    >
fromObject in the code above is a key (String) that I retrieve from the OrderedHashtable and clone it using the code above.No. How could that code possibly clone a String? Where are you telling it what the new String's contents should be?
    (HINT: Nowhere.)
I guess there is a work around where I can check if the cloneClass is an Instance of String and just do fromObject.toString(), but I was curious to know if there was a change in the way class.newInstance() works in Java 1.5No, it has not changed.

  • Saved search for Photo Stream not working in Mavericks

I have a saved search for JPGs in my photo stream so I can easily access them via Finder instead of iPhoto. In Mavericks my saved search no longer sees my latest photo stream iPhone pics. Anyone else notice this? I can see them in iPhoto though. I've tried re-doing the search, etc, but it doesn't work. Any suggestions?

Oh man, I've been beating my head on the desk trying to fix this. The only clue I have is that photos taken from iOS 7 (vs iOS 6) devices after about a week ago (wasn't there an OS X update recently?) don't show up in finder the same. When you dig through the "sub" folder to find the long-named folders with the photostream files in them, hit command+i and check out the "More Info:" section. The recent ones don't have anything in them (see http://d.pr/i/WKzR). Furthermore if you drill down to one of those folders containing such an image (see: http://d.pr/i/nIUP) and try to create a saved search from there it won't show up (see: http://d.pr/i/FOri).
I even tried to create an automator to pull those images out, but when you're searching for a file in any of those new folders finder doesn't see anything.
Not an answer for ya, just more confusion. Let me know if you get any bright ideas.

  • Preview App Saved State Removal Doesn't Work

I'm having trouble with my Preview App in Mavericks.  I evidently had too many windows opewn and it became unresponsive, so I had to use Force Quit.  Relaunching opened all the previous windows and the problem was repeated.  After searching the Communities, I learned that the Saved State folder for Preview should be deleted.  Then, I couldn't find the Saved State folder, and, after more time searching, I learned it's hidden in Library of the Go menu (Thanks a lot, Apple).  I trashed the Saved State folder for Preview, but nothing changed: It STILL opens up all the previous windows.  I can't even wrap my brain around how this is possible!
The machine is a 2010 Mac Pro running Mavericks 10.9.1
    Any help would be appreciated.

Edit: I should have said "Zoom to Fit doesn't work as expected"
I was hoping to use Preview as a proper replacement for Acrobat but this is really aggravating. The zoom to fit only seems to use the horizontal Preview document space to determine the viewed file's fitment. Which of course is useless if you want to view the whole file in totality at the maximum space available. I simply want 100% of the viewable document area to maximize to the given space, not just 100% horizontal. As it stands there doesn't seem to be a way to do that other than using the scale field and just trial and error the percentage until you get the result...
    Any tips, tricks, workarounds?

I have had the same issue for over a year, and it's very aggravating, as I used to use it all the time, and still need to, but it just won't work. It will work if an image is too large, but not when it's too small, and it take multiple "zoom ins", and then you can't get it to fit right! I don't know Apple hasn't fixed this key flaw.... No OS update yet, has fixed it.

  • Adding Saved Searches task flow to a Page Template

I am trying to add the Spaces "Saved Searches" task flow to my custom page template. I have tried a few different approaches and none seem to be working.
First, I tried simply dragging and dropping the task flow from JDeveloper's Resource Palette into my template. JDeveloper created added the following to my template source code:
    +<af:region value="#{bindings.allsavedsearches1.regionModel}" id="pt_r1"/>+
After uploading the changes to Spaces, there seemed to be no change to the rendered template.
Second, I tried to simply add the task flow to a page in my test space via composer. However, as soon as I click the "Add" button next to the Saved Searches task flow, the page goes blank (white screen of death) and the following message shows up in the spaces error logs:
    javax.servlet.ServletException: com.sun.el.parser.ParseException: Encountered "\'" at line 1, column 65.
Finally, I looked at how the out of the box templates implement the saved searches functionality. It appears that the saved searches use a custom folder in the Default Navigation Model. I looked at the source in the Default Navigation Model and found the following node:
    +<customFolder factoryClass="oracle.webcenter.search.view.rc.SearchServiceContextFactory" id="savedSearchesFolder" visible="true">+
    +<attributes resourceBundle="oracle.webcenter.webcenterapp.resource.WebCenterResourceBundle">+
    +<attribute attributeId="Description" isKey="true" resourceBundle="oracle.webcenter.webcenterapp.resource.WebCenterResourceBundle" value="NAV_APPLICATIONS_CUST_FOLDER_SEARCHES.DESCRIPTION"/>+
    +<attribute attributeId="IconURI" value="/adf/webcenter/foldersavedsearches_qualifier.png"/>+
    +<attribute attributeId="Title" isKey="true" resourceBundle="oracle.webcenter.webcenterapp.resource.WebCenterResourceBundle" value="NAV_APPLICATIONS_CUST_FOLDER_SEARCHES.TITLE"/>+
    +<attribute attributeId="WEBCENTER_SERVICE_ID" value="oracle.webcenter.search"/>+
    +</attributes>+
    +</customFolder>+
I copied the entire node and put it in my navigation model. Upon rendering the template, I can see the new node in the navigation but when I click on it, nothing happens.
Can someone please tell me if I am on the right track with any of these three approaches? Or where to look to diagnose the issues I am running into?
    Thanks,
    Joe

UPDATE: I updated the "activation" property in the page def for the allsavedsearches task flow to be "deferred". Now I am getting an ADF popup menu with two menu items: "My Searches" and "Other Members" but clicking on the items does not trigger anything...
Any thoughts? What additional information would be helpful for analyzing this issue?

  • How do you get the root folder to recognize updated file in nested folder?

I believe in OS 9, a modified file nested in a folder would trigger the root folder to recognize and update to the top of the "date modified" column. As long as I've used the Mac (20 years) I've used the "date modified" to force my current client folders to the top of the column. Lately, I have many nested folders in the root client folder. When I make changes to a file in a nested folder, OS X doesn't make the root folder recognize changes within a nested folder. I realize there is not likely to be a fix for this in OS X, as Apple probably deems this behavior to be proper (I do not,) so my question would be expanded to include suggestions for third party software that may accomplish this.

Sorry, posted that last post and ran out of time while editing it. It should read like this:
"Yes, if you ADD a new item or folder to a folder, it updates the root folder, but if you simply MODIFY a file (like Photoshop) within a subfolder, the root folder WILL NOT update the date modified. Check it out."
Actually, whether the directory that a file is re-saved in will be modified or not can depend on the application in question and how it saves files.
Let's say a folder has a single file in it. The modification date of the folder will be the last time a change was made to the directory, either by adding or removing an item from it. (This can include the invisible .DS_Store file in which the Finder saves view settings for a folder, which can often be written without you're realizing it unless you have the Finder show all files like I do).
Then, let's say you open that file, which is a stream of bytes, in an application. You make some changes which alters the representation of the stream of bytes in RAM. The application then saves the changes to the file by filling it with the stream bytes as they now are in RAM. Modifying the contents of a file in this manner does not alter the directory that it's in. The modified date of the folder should remain unchanged.
Some applications use a different method than above to save files, however. Let's say that theoretically while the application is re-writing to the original file during a save, the power goes out and your computer shuts down. There's a good chance that the document that was being saved is now corrupt. A safer method that some applications use, is to first write out the information to a new file in the same directory as the original file, then delete the original file, and then rename the new file so that it has the same attributes as the old file. This method will, of course, modify the directory that the original file was in by adding and removing a file.
