Saving As without the program

Question

There must be some way to save a file (photo, picture, text etc) without the program coming along with it - is there? Because, with my post card that I made on my "The Print Shop 2" and along with photo's edited on Photoshop, I will be taking them down to the local store to have them printed. So will the program (Photoshop and The Print Shop) be a problem when I poke my Flash Drive into the Photo Print machine down there at the store?

You've got about 10 different issues going on. First off, in order for a Windows machine to read a flash drive the drive must be formatted MS-DOS FAT32, which a Mac can write to and a Windows machine can read. Every operating system has its own drive formats, the Mac has used HFS+ for many years, Windows started with FAT32 and can still read it, although it now uses something else (which a Mac can read, but not write to), and Linux uses still another drive format. Windows machines of all types are quite unable to read the Mac drive format, without a special translation program, which is not free and most Windows users don't have.
Then there is a completely different kind of format: the format used to write the files. Different programs support different file formatting schemes. Some schemes are nearly universal, for instance plain text, jpeg, tiff, and pdf. It does not matter what machine or what operating system a program that wrote something in one of those formats is running on, as long as:
1. It writes the file in the specific universal format with the proper extension, for instance: somefile.txt, somefile.jpg, somefile.pdf
2. It is presented to another machine on a disk that is formatted in a way the other machine is able to read--the best choice is FAT32 since Macs, Linux boxes and Windows PCs are all able to read that disk format
3. My experience is that even though psd is an Adobe proprietary format, Macs, Windows and Linux machines can all read any psd file with pretty standard software that is usually present on all of them, which is why I am surprised that Kinko's can't handle a psd file
I have never had a problem opening a psd file in Windows or Linux that I created on my Macs, provided the file was transferred to the other machine on a properly formatted drive, a correctly burned ISO 9660 CD, or sent by way of local FTP or over the Internet.
