Scammers

Beware of scammers phoning you to say they are from O2. they have access to details of your account including your billing amount and ask for payment then the scam continues, they take payment from your card having pretended to be O2 and tect back a so called receipt of payment which is headed as UK which was the reason we then found out the scam. They have an automated sytem when you call them back claimimg to be O2 bill payment. Watch out for the following numbers calling you0800111612108009524874They have access to your personal details which they must have hacked from O 2 take care

Verizon won't allow me to apply the $14.13 that they owe me on the electronic gift card that they forced me to take as payment. What a bunch of sleazy scammers!!! With all the billiuons of dollars that you guys make, why do you have to scam me out of my $14? I was told by on line chat that i could buy screen protectors with it. Ha! Or redeem it in the store. AT the store I was told I could redeem it online. Why do you guys have to cheat people and make so many hoops to jump through that all I want to do is never use your services again? You alienate me, all for $14. How much am I and all the influnce that i have over my friends and family worth to you guys? Obviously less than $14. FYI, I have started a social media campaign exposing your sleazy business pratcies!!! Thanks!

Have you tried using it for purchase with customer service over the phone. I have used gift cards to pay part of my bill through the phone or online.

  • Scammers using my Skype In Number

For the past few weeks, I have had voice messages left on my Skype In number related to people asking for refunds from a tax department.
It seems that the scammers will call these people, and when they ask questions and want a number to return the call, the scammers will leave my Skype Number as their contact details.  So, lots of calls from dear old people expecting me to help them get a refund.
I have cancelled my subscription for this number, however the number is still active until the next bill cycle in January.
How can I inactivate this to where the phone number is no longer valid?
    Thanks

I allowed PC Update Support to take over my computer (long story) When they were done I checked them out and discovered they were most likely scammers. I ran my antivirus program and changed passwords. Should I be concerned that they may have installed malware?

If you are sure they were scammers the only way to be 100% sure they left nothing behind is to wipe your system disk, do a clean install and restore from a backup you are sure was made before the scammers got onto you system.
There is no other way to be sure that thye did not leave somehting behind. In addition if you have used any credit card numbers while on the system, back account (or any other) passwords, tax returns, etc. You need to be alert fo IIdentity Theft | Consumer Information. It may be a good idea to place a fraud alert with one of the credit reporting agencies (the link above will detail what to do)
And of course change the passwords right away.
    good luck

  • Refused to pay scammers. Got skype account banned.

Several days ago received a letter on my email, he asked for 70$ or he will ban my skype.
If I ignore his email or refuse to pay he promised to ban my account.
He guaranteed that he can ban any skype account through bug in the system and asked for any skype login if I want him to proof his ability.
I refused to pay and my skype was blocked. Support says that my accounts are under investigation right now.
This person explained how he can block any skype account:
They send a message to their friends asking to spam report any skype.
After 20-50 such reports your skype automatically blocked
Instruction how to block any skype step-by-step is published on various websites, for example largest IT website in Russia: http://habrahabr.ru/post/183302/
Currently both of my Skypes are blocked : login: "s---" and "a---"
I have used s--- for business chat with clients and now I don't have a possibility to work and my work completely stopped.
I have used a--- for personal purposes on my iPhone and it is blocked too.
I guarantee that all who reported me on spam never recieved any message from me
Also our news partner and largest Diablo 3 fan-site was blocked almost the same time as our skype. There is already about 150 likes from readers asking to unlock his skype.

Do you know any solution how to protect myself from scammers?
Right now I registered new one "[Removed for privacy]" and they already ask money again and promise to block new skype as well, as they can trace my skype on website which is widely known because of my work and I need to place my skype on my website.
I suppose premium skype does not help from scammers? Maybe Business Skype will help?
I think it is very bad idea that anyone can be blocked forever by spam reports from people that never wrote to you and you never wrote to them.

  • HOW TO DISCOVER SCAMMERS, SPAM, FISHING ???WHO THE...

Hi everyone who read this message,
I have been personally scammed and disappointed. But what is happening now that the stammers share all my info. Some  people now contacting me and asking who that person is. The person who pretend to be is DAVID A. WELSH US NAVY Capten, ADMIRAL is the biggest scammer right now on Skype and Facebook. You can find him just on google, facebook of many versions just little different pictures. Who is doing all this investigation and report that person who can open account. What is going on?? Who is taking any criminal, legal actions?? Does anyone know some answers. This is just good way to share but its really not much to stop fooling honest people.

Just legal actions, we don't want to choose the side of this criminals. My emphasis, seriously said, is to inform the persons whose identity informations these scammers steal. From my point of view they are victims also.

  • Microsoft helpdesk scammers keep calling me

Does anyone know why I would be targeted by a scammers pretending to be from either the Windows or Microsoft helpdesk (they sound Indian) and telling me that they know my computer is on and it has a virus ?.
I have a macbook Pro,  I haven't told them this I told them I dont have a computer and hung up.  But they keep ringing !
Do they really know when I'm on my computer ?
How did they get my phone number ?
Has this happened to anyone else and is there anywhere we can report this too ?
Sorry if I've posted this in the wrong area but its not clear where I should.

It has nothing to do with your computer. They use autodialers and say the same thing to anyone who answers.

  • False Copyright Infringement Claims (Scammers?)

Likely scammers. Your timeframe coincides nicely with about 8 notices I recieved in a 10 day timeframe. The notices were all for "adult materials" from cegtak.com, which a simple Google search revealed to be likely porn copyright trolls who normally ask for a settlement to avoid embarassing lawsuits. Last I was aware, Comcast only acknowledges and passes along copyright infringements, not the demands for money. I'm quite certain the complaints I recieved were not legitimate. In any case, as of mid-2015, if sent under the Copyright Alert System (CAS), your account will likely not be terminated. See generally about  comcast copyright alerts and lack of service "shutdown" . DMCA notices are a little different and could be more serious, but if offered by a company such as CEG TEK, it seems it would be likely easier to defend yourself since they are essentially known trolls. Furthermore, since the majority of money a company like this makes is from "scaring" people into paying, a lawsuit is less likely. I am unsure whether Comcast would be more or less willing to go along with such trolling, but currently, anecdotal experience is that no ill effects have been percieved by myself at this time in terms of lawsuits or service interruptions.

Today I've received 4 copyright infringement notices in the mail (all at once). As I read the barrage of letters, I noticed that not a single one of their claimed copyright "videos" has ever been downloaded by my hand or anyone else in my home IP. I personally searched every computer with the given file names. Absolutely nothing on my end.
P2P copyright porn videos? Seriously? People go to known public sites to get stuff like that for free. The whole accusation is bogus. I run an extremely secure network so I know that it's not on my end. No one uses Bittorrents in my household. Was my IP mixed up with someone elses on Comcast's end when this happened?
I also went ahead to check my Comcast e-mail to see if there was any word of it. The 4 strikes were also there sitting near the end of the last month and the start of this month. Like they snuck in these e-mails / letters on dates to get this "Six Strike" BS all at once onto me. A bit too convenient for these false copyright strikes, don't you think? I know Comcast is the middle man in all of this, but it's really disappointing that people are going threw all of these false claims. Even worse, Comcast is enabling fraud companies / lawyers to harass their own customers.
I made a new / even stronger network password for the sake of it. I run a WPA encryption on my wireless router along side my network firewall. I then, went ahead to check on other online forums / Reddit. Only to find out that people were being scammed / abused with fraud with these copyright claims that Comcast is forwarding to their customers. What am I to do? Are all these false claims going to be delivered to me by paper mail? How do I make these false claims stop? Personally call Comcast? I've read a ton of topics on this matter now, but I have yet to see anyone solve this problem. Most people seem to ignore them? I'm too paranoid to see that as the answer. I have a bad gut feeling that I'm going to get a bogus 6th strike while no one at home is doing anything wrong; while having my network stronger than it ever will be. Just so these copyright claims get abused to take money out of my pocket or harass me to no end.
Any help on this subject / matter would be highly appreciated.

  • Reporting on Malicious 419 scammers

    Hi Skype,
Firstly let me say I'm seriously dissapointed in your support services. I used to be able to just email a problem and someone would get back to me very promtly. Now, for whatever reason one has to jump through hoops to find an actual person. With nothing in your forums, I took to sending you a private facebook message which has not been responded to for over a week, in addition the form I found to email you directly keeps breaking. That's seriously lacking guys.
Anyway... below is the security concern. You really should have systems in place to report this kind of thing. I would have expected so much more from you... especially since I have been a paying customer for many years.
All I ask is please get back to me with assurance you are going to block this profile.

Thanks for replying. I didn't realize it was so bad as this is my first one.  I'm fully aware of 419 scams, but I do use for Skype for work purposes and am sometimes contacted by strangers so unfortunately I do need to initially engage a little.
I have checked again and I don't see any place within the skype app to report a user. I can block them, but not report them.
I still feel that skype should at a minimum do these 2 things:
    1) List and warn users of 419 scams under the security FAQ/Support areas. (Not just phishing)
    2) Allow an online area, or within the app to report users so MS/Skype can disable the account permanately.

  • Any way to report scammers?

So my dad just got a call from a skype number that has been reported by others as being a scammer/hacker. Yet skype has no way to report these numbers? I think that would be a great feature considering that most people wouldnt know whats going on...
google voice has a post about it, yet Skype has been around longer and has nothing that I could find.

  • Paypal allows scammers to keep on scamming.....utterly ridiculous...

I sent a 10 car Hot Wheels set to a Canadian buyer through Ebay.....The buyer immediately after receipt claims 'Not as Described", including different color, different model, everything they could check off.......Now I know what I sent, So I sent the picture to Paypal of the listing and asked the buyer to descbribe to me what they had 'received'.....No reply, of course, so I then sent them an e-mail authorizing a return as Paypal requested........The buyer sends back an envelope addressed to "Homeowner"' at an address 7 houses down from mine.....Now I know i gave him the correct name and address and I am sure Paypal did the same..... I tracked through the Post Office where this was delivered to and signed for after the tracking showed such......and went to the house to retrieve what I thought would be 10 random cars in a package....the wife called her husband at work who told her where the 'package' was, it was an empty envelope......(He had thought about calling the FBI since he got an empty envelope from a foreign country with a blan piece of paper inside).... I called Paypal and spoke to the 'customer Service' (or lack of), told them exactly what I received, and told them the buyer was trying to pull a scam by showing signed delivery in my town, but not my address, since the Post Office tracking does not show the exact address......I told them I would send in scans of the package matching the same tracking number that the buyer gave them, and also note that the envelope states "Documents Only" so there is no way that he returned any items to me, just a blank piece of paper in it.....Well, surprise, surprise, they rule in favor of the buyer since the return showed 'DELIVERY"...WTF.......I have attached the scans that I sent in, just unbelievable that Paypal favors a buyer with 3, yes 3 feedbacks over a seller with 2800+ at 100%.....I am done with Ebay and will not send another item to Canada to outside the US.   Paypal has no seller protection, they are a joke...... My rant is over $59 and my 10 car set gone to a scammer that Paypal let happen...shame on Paypal... Paul.  ( I may not be able to attach yet)......

  • BEWARE **DOORSTEP SCAMMERS*****

BEWARE OF SALESMEN CALLING DOOR TO DOOR - LYING AND ATTEMPTING FRAUD
On Friday I had a knock at the door.  It was two young studenty type men in their early 20s
They introduced themselves as being "from your local telephone exchange".  They said they "were calling in connection with the letter sent to me last week".
Now I didn't have a letter from my local telephone exchange last week...In fact I'm pretty sure that my local telephone exchange doesn't send out letters....so I was immediately suspicious of these characters.
Both seem to have some ID badge, but this was cleverly tucked into their jacket and hidden....However he hadn't been as careful in hiding the lanyard attached to the hidden badge...and this lanyard poking out beneath his jacket revealed that he was actually from another ISP.    Yes....he lied, he wasn't from the telephone exchange at all.
I simply told him I had no letter, and I didn't want to buy anything he was selling.
He replied that he wasn't selling anything (another lie) and that he was from the local telephone exchange and wanted to collect the letter about the government upgrade to the broadband in the area.
I repeated that I didn't want to buy anything from him and shut the door.
In hindsight i should have kept him talking, to get more details of the scam.
If I had kept talking and said I hadn't received the non-existent letter, apparently the next step is that they offer to "check your phone line to make sure it is upgradeable".  They invite themselves into your home with the lie that they are checking the line...and eventually produce a copy of this pretend letter for you to sign.....Only the pretend letter is a contract to switch your home phone and broadband to another ISP.
The purpose of my post is to warn people to be careful if you get a doorstep visit from the sales scam team,  and also to ask BT why aren't you doing something about this?
It must be illegal.   Do I report them to BT?  Ofcom?  Trading Standards?  the Police?

They are from a respected (or, at least, profitable) company. You do sometimes see the odd over-enthusiastic salesman at your front door.
I had exactly the same situation some years ago with anothe ISP. He was coming to check my telephone line (please be ready see us tomorrow).. After a few questions I pinned him down to "I'm trying to save you some money". Poor long suffering individual!
If you are suspicious, ask to see a copy of  his Traders License. It's difficult to think of that, at the time, however.
I have a "No Cold Callers" sticker, issued by the County Council, on display. If push comes to shove you can always point to it politely.
