Scanned hand signature vulnerability

Hi,
I have few scanned documents which have my hand signature in my laptop computer. I am afraid that if my laptop is stolen and goes to the wrong hands, these signatures can be used to fake my signature.
May someone with my scanned sigature exploit it for bad purpurses ? I mean, is a simple scanner resolution (like 300DPI) really enough to fake my signature ?
What is the maximum resolution which disables the ability to fake my signature  ?
Is there any other solution you suggest (except encrypting my files, which I don't want to do because I am afraid that if I forget the password, the file would be no use) ?

Hand-written signatures are not really used for identifying a person, do they? Unless you're a known athlete or author or something like that they're pretty much meaningless.
And if you sign a document anyone with access to it can simply extract it from there (scan it, take a picture of it, etc.) and have a perfect (digital) copy of your signature, so there's no real way you can protect yourself from that.
If someone wants to sign in your name they can do it with or without a copy of your signature, so I wouldn't worry about it. That's not what's going to stop someone from faking your signature.

  • Mf6161dw scans are too light when scanning hand written text

mf6161dw scans are too light when scanning hand written text. I changed from b&w to greyscale, which now makes the text legible. However the text is still medium grey instead of black on my old scanner. Need help or i will have to return it.

    Hi steelcofence.
When scanning handwritten documents, the light from the lamp may reflect on the ink.  Since scanning in greyscale did not return the image quality that you would prefer, I recommend scanning handwritten documents in [Color].

  • Tidy up scanned hand drawings

    Dear forum,
I have several hundred TIF images at 1200 dpi+ which represent scans of hand drawings on parchment paper using pencil or ink-pen (.2mm or thereabouts) of 4000 year old cuneiform documents. The drawings were made over an extended period of time, the paper varied, and ultimately, the scans reflect this in that some lines are darker than others and there are occasional 'smudgy' areas etc.
What I would like to do prior to publication is to sharpen the images and make them consistent across the repertoire as black on white background.
I'm not well versed in the details of how various Photoshop (CS5, Mac) commands do what they do, but I've found several that seem like they might get me where I want to go: Levels (Auto?), Threshold, Shadows/Highlights... and there may be more that I don't know about.
I'm hoping someone can point me in the ideal direction for this sort of task, which I'd like to automate to run over a directory of images if possible. At the same time, I might have to change the dpi and output format of the new images.
I've attached a sample. In this case, the drawing is fairly clear (not much 'grey' background) but the lines are not as black and sharp as they could be.
Many thanks for any help that anyone can offer!

Thanks to everyone who offered suggestions on how to go about this. I finally came up with the following method, which may not be the most efficient, but it works...
Tidy up the drawings using pen (fill in unclosed loops) and eraser (remove overshot of original pen).
Add new adjustment layer: levels. Manually adjust to remove mid-tones and get a reasonably but not over-dark image.
    Save.
Apply magic want to background (i.e. 'white' area).
    Select inverse.
Refine edges with smooth set to 20, output to layer mask.
Add new layer, fill with white; move to just above background layer.
Add new layer, fill with black; move the layer mask from above to this layer.
Move the levels adjustment layer to just above background layer.
    Hide background.
    Flatten image.
    Save in 1200dpi output directory.
    Change image size to 600dpi.
    Save in 600dpi output directory.
I saved this as an action, with pause at the levels adjustment layer, since it seems best to adjust for each image. I've also found that since it is best to touch up all the drawings individually, I may as well run this action right afterwards, rather than as a big batch job.
Hope this may be helpful to someone else.

  • How to disable scan after signature update in scep 2012 r2?

I have found that after a reboot of 16 VM's suddenly my SAN had >1000 IOPS on a host with just 16 VM's.
That might not look bad based on numbers but we still run more or less green and now we have just 16 VM's soon there will be 500+.
I rebooted the VM's simulating a HA situation and found the huge amount of IOPS for some time.
MSMPENG.EXE was scanning and we disabled all automatic scanning so I was looking in eventviewer.
There I discovered a signature update.
It is highly unwanted to have a partly or full scan on servers. So my question is how can we disabled this?

    Hi,
I find a scan setting in Antimalware Policy - "Check for the latest definition updates before running a scan". You could check the policy in your SCCM console.
Please also confirm this is not a scheduled scan.

  • Signature with .pdf image only?

I have created a fillable form using Adobe Pro XI.  The form can be filled out using Reader and
users can put in their digital ID signatures into the blocks I created for
that.  However, going through the process
of signing the form, the only option for a scanned in image of a hand written
signature is a .pdf file.  Guess I
thought any type file such as jpegs, bitmaps, etc. could be used.  The problem with the .pdf file is our users
cannot crop this type of image down to just the signature using Reader.  So, when the image is placed into the
signature block, it is the whole 8.5x11 page.
Can’t really see the signature.  I
tested some other fillable forms for Reader found online from other sources and
it I is the same thing.  Can only use
.pdf  file as the signature image.  Is there another way to do this?  Am I missing something?

Reader only allows signatures from pdf files, Acrobat from other files. When scanning their signature they should be able to scan to a custom size page or use a graphics program to crop the scanned image even if it is a pdf. The Mac Preview program is capable of cropping pdfs. The only graphics program I use on Windows is Photoshop, which can do the job, but it is certainly what I would call overkill for the job. Perhaps ImageJ or Gimp can do the job of cropping.

  • Collecting digital signatures on forms

Hello. I'm working on turning our paper based forms into forms people can fill out on the computer through Acobat 9 PRO.
I know that you can distribute a form to multiple users who can fill it out and send it back; but I'm needing to send multiple users a filled out form, have then review it and digitally sign the document. So....example:
I send the same form to 2 different, who review the information on their own computers and digitally sign the form and submit it back. So now I have 2 versions of the same form, each one with one signature.
My questions is, is there a way to combine those 2 forms so that I have the same form with both signatures on it???
Also, if that's not an option, is there a way to set up a workflow so that when one person digitally signs the fom and hit submits it goes to the next individual who needs to sign it, untill it's all be signed and then submited back to the distributor? Thanks.
Hope that's not too confusing. Thanks for the help.

If you need to collect multiple signatures on a form, then everyone must have access to and sign only one copy of the form.  This is why I suggested using the shared review process.  This process does NOT require using the Adobe server as was suggested earlier by astarxy.  You can use any web server (even a free hosting account); in my case for internal use I created a SharePoint site which I use as the document and comments repository.  Using Acrobat Pro, we place signature fields on the form for each participant.  How you set these fields up can really simplify the process:
In the Tooltip for each field you may want to put something like "John Doe Signature" or "Business Analyst Signature" so that it is clear who signs where.
If not using shared reviews, you may want to try adding a script to execute on the signed tab.  The script could email the form to you and all other users that are required for your process.
If you need hand-written signatures you could have each person scan their signature to a PDF and assign the PDF to a custom stamp.  Users simply stamp where required.  I created a menu button that flattens annotations; if I used this stamping optin I would want to either have the option of using that button or have some code within the form's WillSave action to flatten annotations.
If using shared reviews you have the option to customize the email that will be sent to participants.  Here you can specify any requirements and give directions, such as "Mike in accounting should review and sign first, followed by Doug in Legal.  After Doug signs, the document should be reviewed/signed by Jane in Operations..."  You could also comment directly on the form if needed.
There are many possibilities beyond these, although most of which are fairly complex or involve 3rd party companies such as Docusign.  Hopefully the ideas listed will help get you going in the right direction.

  • Can you create an electronic signature in a PDF file using Adobe Reader 9

    Hello all:
I am filling out an application that I opened using Adobe Reader 9.
It is a PDF document, and at the very bottom there is a field which is meant for my signature..
Is there away to sign this electronically?
Do I need to scan my signature and place it that field?
Can I sign with a pen tool with in  Adobe Reader 9?
Or do I need to print, sign the document, scan my document, and then import as a completely different PDF file?
    Thanks in advance!!

    That depends.
Are they asking you to put a copy of your actual signature on there or are they asking for a "digital signature"?
    They are different things.

  • MS Word doc to PDF containing Signature

    Hi,
I am using Vista and Adobe Acrobat Professional 8.1.2.
I scanned a signature and converted it to a TIFF file with the background transparent. For those that are interested, my process to convert a scanned signature using Photoshop to a TIFF file with a transparent background can be found here:
    http://www.prophotohome.com/forum/photoshop-other-image-applications/79619-signature.html# post465601
I was able to easily resize the signature to fit in the appropriate space on a letter. Looking at the signature in MS Word 2007 under all zoom levels (50%, 100%, 200%), the signature appeared smooth and proper.
I then used "Create PDF" from the Acrobat Tab in MS Word. The resulting PDF has a somewhat jagged signature, which is more noticeable at higher zoom levels.
What can I do differently to ensure a better conversion of the MS Word document containing a scanned TIFF image with a transparent background?
I look forward to your assistance.
    Best regards,
    Kevin

  • Using Digital Signatures in a PDF File | Acrobat X | Adobe TV

This video details how to use the new Sign & Certify panel for digital signatures, including the new Time Stamp Document tool, in Acrobat X Std. and Pro.
    http://adobe.ly/yDHBdn

I wanted to add a scanned pdf signature to a W-9 form, and I changed the preference in Security as you suggested, but the new icon in the top tool bar is grayed out, as are all the choices within the Sign & Certify drop down. I watched movies, and looked at forums, and no one has this grayed-out issue. I have been trying to figure this out for an hour, and everything I find is a dead end.

  • Digital signatures and wet ink signatures

    HI all,
I am in the process of converting our paper checklists into fillable pdf forms.  Everything is working well, but Im trying to get my head around digital signatures.
Ideally I just want to click the signature part, choose a user from a list, enter the password and the 'wet ink' signature that is scanned in gets added to the form.
So on my laptop I setup a new appearance for my signature, scanned my signature and added it to my digital signature.  Perfect.
Problem is, I want to be able to use this on other computers.  I copied the digital signature .pfx file and imported it on that new computer, which worked, but it drops the 'wet ink' signature and appearance.
It also appears that anyone can create a digital ID on my laptop and choose my wet ink signature appearance, and sign the document which makes it appear as if I have signed it.  I was hoping the wet ink signature was locked with the digital signature but it appears this isnt the case.
Im trying to find the best way to store our signatures (we are all on a network), so that any user can use any computer and ideally lock the wet ink signature to the digital signature.
    Many thanks
    Chris

It doesn't work for everyone, but if you are considering moving to the world of digital signatures, it's best to forget the signature appearance ("wet"). This is just a distraction to the actual signature, and it encourages a deeply flawed workflow: one where people look at the picture on the page rather than learning about digital signatures and how to verify them. Since digital signatures are (if done properly) unfakeable and (in some places) legally recognised, it is best to completely change workflow, rather than trying to give the illusion it is just an electronic version of a paper workflow.
