SCM Optimizer Installation ?

We have installed SCM 5.0 with livecache 7.6; How to make sure SCM Optimizer is installed in my system or not and we are early birds on SCM System
How to identify SCM Optimizer installed or not ? if installed what version ?

Hi,
You need to login to your SCM system. Tcode SM59
Look for TCP/IP RFCs containing following names.
cso
ctm
dso*
mmp*
seq
snp
There will be 6 RFCS pointing to yout Optimizer server.
If these are missing then Optimizer installation is Not done.
Incase Optimizer is installed, you can check the version as follows
Login to Optimizer machine.
Traverse to the path where optimizer is installed. for eg. /apoopt/dps_tmp/bin
run the command
"/apoopt/dps_tmp/bin/dsoptsvr -version" -> This will display version of executable dsoptsvr
Similarly you can repeat the command for other executables. All the executables will be stored under
/apoopt/<CTM>/bin/ctmoptsvr.exe
/apoopt/<CSO>/bin/csooptsvr.exe
etc.

I've installed DS software. Now I want to start using Designer. Installation guide tell "Set up the repository as described in the Oracle9i SCM Repository Installation Guide". But I can't find such document in any place, including OTN.
In many places there is a link:

but it doesn't work.

You can find this document in the following location. (I presume, that you are using windows.)
Start Menu -> Programs -> Oracle 9i Developer Suite -> Software Configuration Manager -> Oracle SCM Repository Installation Guide.

SCM Optimizer error

Hi
the SCM optimizer run is failing with the following error.

I checked the logs from gateway dev_rd, found the same error..

Hi Kheer,
As per i know, there is NO standard function module or program by this name '/SAPAPO/OPT_SVR_CALL' in SCM system.
But anyways, you can check in your SCM systems but not in Optimizer.
Go to transaction - se37 & se38 for checking for both function module and programs respectively.
note - you may just put /sapapo* and press f4 to see the list of the function modules or programes in your system.
I hope this will help you in concluding the issue.

Optimizer Installation

Hi guys.
This is our current setup (system landscape) for our CLM installation
1)We have our e-sourcing installed on Unix O/S with an oracle DB which
also includes a j2ee engine.
2)Optimizer server running on Windows enterprise server, Same JDK as
Unix server(No j2ee and no DB )
3)Contract Generation also on a separate Windows server (2003)
We have seen that the recommendation from SAP is to install E-Sourcing
and Optimizer on two separate instances .Only difference is that we only have a
j2ee engine and DB on our Unix server.
Question:
For Optimizer, do we install a j2ee engine on our Windows server? That is, for Optimizer, do you have to have a separate J2EE engine to the one used for the e-sourcing application

Yes. The Optimizer should be deployed on a J2EE engine that is different from the one used for SAP Sourcing. No database is required for the Optimizer.

SCM optimizer CPU utilization mostly 0%

Hello All,
My SAP and DB are running on the same host. And its an SCM 5.0 system.
I observed that the idle time is always 100% for the optimizer.
Can anyone please elaborate the role of this optmizer and why the idle time is always 100.
for my SCM system, the CPU utlization keeps varying which is normal, but i dont get the role of optmizer.
Please let me know.

Thanks a lot again for the reply.
I have checked in /sapapo/opt11 and I am able to see only SNP related logs however the status are in yellow and when I click the log buttun it throws a pop with a message that "no log exist".
And in SM59, under TCP/IP i can see 4 rfc connections (OPTSERVER_SNP01, OPTSERVER_SNP02, OPTSERVER_DPS01, OPTSERVER_DPS02) and for all these connection test is working successfully.
So from this can I canclude that the planning method are not being used and for that reason CPU Utilization is 0%?

SCM - New Installation for ERP system

Wayne State is in the process of reviewing solutions for Configuration/Release Management for our enterprise applications. We have a site license and many developer seats that would allow us to utilize SCM but are not being encouraged to do so by Oracle due to it's status of going unsupported in the future for new development. We are interested in a demo of this product or any comments from those that have used it, installed it. We are very much interested in if this could be a solution or part of a solution for our environment even if only for the short term. Any info on your experience with this tool or demo assistance would be appreciated. We are SCT Banner shop but would use this for all our enterprise applications for release management potentially.

No update of Business Explorer 3.50 and SCM via Installation Server 6.40

Dear all
We use SAP Installation Server 6.40 to deploy SAP Front End 6.40 and updates. For new installations, target systems will get the latest version of SAP GUI 6.40 (PL 27), Business Explorer 3.50 (PL 13) and Supply Chain Management add-on (PL 6).
On existing installations only SAP GUI will be patched resp. updated. Business Explorer 3.50 and Supply Chain Management add-on will not be patched by Installation Server. We have checked this by local installation of patch (patch level 13, your present patch level 4). What is going wrong? Has anyone a hint how I can solve this problem?

Viewing the Log
Use
You can check the installation by viewing the log file sapsetup.log. The log file can be found in:
C:\WINDOWS\ under Windows XP
C:\WINNT\ under Windows 2000
The most recent log has no number. The older logs are numbered. The higher the number, the older the log. Each time new log is generated, each of the log numbers is incremented by 1.
Procedure
1. Run saplogvw.exe from the server, to start the SAPSetup Log Viewer.
2. Enter the path and filename of the log file.
3. Choose Finish.
The log file is displayed. Errors are colored red. Warnings are colored blue.
Also run this in command line
sapsetup.exe /check

Solution Manage Maintenance Optimizer Installation

Hi,
I am in the process of trying to configure maintenance optimizer for solution manager. I have performed the following pre-requisites as specified in the SAP documentation
1. Support Package 09 for Solution manager
2. Applied OSS Notes 1024932, 1008717, 0950974
3. Set up user with appropriate roles and authorizations SAP_MAINT_OPT_ADMIN
4. Activated BC Sets as dictated by OSS note 990534
5. Define a Solution
6. Assign S-user to MO user
7. Check RFC Destination and assign S-user Login details
When I enter the solution and attempt to configure MO via Change Management -> Support Package Stacks, I get as far as the screen where you select the appropriate product version. I select the product and click to continue however I receive the following message
<i>'Condition REQUEST_IN_PROCESS is not checked without Change Management integration'</i>
Can anyone give me any suggestions to resolve this error.

I am compiling an exhaustive list of SCM Optimization touch points from Third Party logistics business process outsourcing point of view.
Based on your experience, could you list out,
1) Third Party Logistics business process outsourcing touch points in the entire width of SCM
2) KPI's to Measure and Optimize at each touch points.

Few KPI's
- On time Delivery
- Response time
- Quality of WOrk
- Costing
- Profit at 3PL

How big is SCM/APO/Livecache/TM customer base?

Becuase these products are not used by some sectors such as finacial sector, etc., they
used to have a small customer base.
I have heard that now more companies start to use it.

Hi Jennifer,
the answer to this depends on what you define as 'small'.
It's correct that many of the optimization functions are based in production and supply chain management and that they are used most often for this as well.
I'm not aware of any optimization option available for SCM that might be used for the financial/banking sectors - but hey, I'm just a database guy
Anyhow, there are literally thousands of active SCM/liveCache installations that are heavily used by our customers and that are and inevitable building block of their processes.

SCM WP trace file error message

We are getting the below error in our work process trace files for our SCM 5.1 system
Tue Dec 30 17:35:51 2008
***LOG Q0I=> NiPGetHostByName: hostname 'OPTSERVER' not found: gethostbyname [niuxi.c 1470]
At same time, we have system log entries as below:
19:07:34 BTC 031 009 APOADMIN                Q0 I Operating system call gethostbyname failed (error no. 0 )
Documentation for system log message Q0 I :
The specified operating system call was returned with an error.
For communication calls (receive, send, etc) often the cause of errors
are network problems.
It could also be a configuration problem at operating system level.
(file cannot be opened, no space in the file system etc.).
Does anyone know about this?? The RFC connections between APO server and Optimizer server are working fine and there is no issue. However, for any dialog/background process we are getting the error above. Please suggest.

Thanks for your reply. As in the note 388193 that you have mentioned job /SAPAPO/OM_REORG_DAILY is executed daily in our system and there does not seem to be any issue with optimizer installation as optimizer is working fine and there is no connection problem with scm system.
However the SM21 errors keeps coming.

Regarding Designer Installation

have succesfully installed the Oracle Designer but
in designer's front panel we only have enabled the UTILITIES options (Repository Reports excepted), the rest of them are disabled (MODELLING SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS, GENERATING PRELIMINARY DESIGNS, DESIGNING AND GENERATING).
How to enable these options???

Have you installed a Repository? Have you set up subordinate users and given them access? Read the SCM (Repository)Installation Guide available here (http://otn.oracle.com/docs/products/designer/content.html) from OTN for more information.

Hi Gurus, Is that true windows 2008 server will not be supported for Optimizer?. I found in SAP quick sizer, Under SCM - optimizer.

TPVS Optimizer error: "orders cannot be delivered"

When executing TPVS Optimizer the optimization comes out with a high number of orders "that cannot be delivered". This is an initial message that appears just before it starts the capacity check.
At the log register this message is showed as green.
In fact that is not a problem of capacity or resource availability as when I filter only that specifics orders that weren't schedule before, the Optimizer is able to delivery any order.
I suspect that somehow this orders are "stucked" as dirty in some internal table, due to previous optimizations. In other tests when I copied the resources (load and vehicle) and set the new resource to the Optimization Profile, the orders where delivered. But this artifice is not working anymore.
I've already opened an OSS for SAP but they answered with Note 847234 that indicates a SCM Optimization Consulting service from SAP.

Thanks a lot for your answer, it was very helpfull.
I've tried VSCC and system consistency check. I also had sufficient vehicles available for the optimizer to plan the shipments.
Actually I was able to schedule all orders again after creating new resources** as copies from the original ones and assigning them to the model.
**Vehicles and loading resources - outbound at the shipping point and inbound at customers, delivery point
As I said, this problem had happened before and at the next time it occurs I will try to use transaction SM12.
I'll let you know the result.
