  • SCOM 2012 UCS pack and C-series monitoring

    Hello,
Does anyone know if the SCOM 2012 UCS pack can be used to monitor Cisco C-series server at the hardware level?
If so, can it do this directly without going through UCSM (FICs)?
If not, is there any sort of pack setup for monitoring of C-series servers?
If this requires the 2248TP units connected up to our FICs, I'm open to that, but need to justify the costs.

    Hi Justin,
Currently we do not have a MP to support the C series in standalone mode. This is on the roadmap and we should have it in some future releases.
However C series integrated with UCSM can be monitored using the SCOM MP.
Please note: For the integration, you need the 2232 FEX. UCSM version 2.0.2 onwards, we only support 2232 for the C series integration.
    Thanks!

  • SCOM 2012 R2 RU5 and OpsInsight

    Hi there,
In the description of Rollup 5 for SCOM 2012 R2 it states:
System Center Advisor is improved with many exciting features and is rebranded as "Operational Insights." Learn more about the new Operational Insights
          (https://preview.opinsights.azure.com)
feature. The product name is updated in the Operations Manager plug-in for System Center Advisor.
However, in the SCOM console when I got to Administration I sill get the "System Center Advisor" setting section with all the Advisor branding. When I lookup rules e.g. SyncAlert I see two rules:
    Microsoft.OpInsights.SynAlert
    Microsoft.SystemCenter.Advisor.SyncAlert
Which one is now valid? Did I miss something during the RU5 installation? Should I remove the Advisor MPs manually?
    Regards,
    Gunter
    Gunter - www.server-log.com

    Hi Gunter!
Thanks for your post. After you installed the update rollup, did you import the following management packs:
    Microsoft System Center Advisor Internal
    Microsoft System Center Advisor
Microsoft System Center Advisor Resources (ENU)
    Microsoft.SystemCenter.Visualization.Library.
You can find them under: %SystemDrive%\Program Files\System Center 2012 R2\Operations Manager\Server\Management Packs for Update Rollups
After importing these, you will need to reopen the console to see the branding changes under the Administration.
Note: You will still see Advisor mentioned in the "Monitoring" section folders and alert data. We chose to keep the naming in that section intact to avoid issues with alert names.
    I hope this helps!

    Hi,
According to the error message and its sub status, it seems like that user name is correct but the password is wrong.
I would like to suggest you reset the account password and re-enter it for all those services that run under the account.

  • SCOM 2012 R2 Agent Deployment - Uninstall Old and Install New

By chance anyone come up with a scripted method for removing an existing SCOM 2012 SP1 agent and installing a new 2012 R2 agent? While I've come across a few scripts I'm trying to kill a few birds with one stone. This is a cross-domain attempt where the
SCOM servers sit in one domain and the member servers are scattered across multiple domains. Member servers range from Windows Server 2003, 2008, and 2012. In most cases the servers have the 2012 SP1 agent installed and in some cases there are multiple management
groups from previous SCOM standups. In addition there's a separate DEV SCOM 2012 R2 environment to manage DEV/QA servers. Active Directory Integration is configured and I have the necessary security groups created. There is a group policy created which is
filtered to just that security group. So the plan is to simply drop the servers into the correct group and have the agent installed via group policy start up script. ADI should have DEV servers appear in DEV SCOM and PROD in PROD SCOM.
Although there are ways to facilitate agent deployment via the console I need to perform a staged migration against a ton of server so as to not impact the existing production environment. So I'd rather do this remotely to pre-selected servers. This process
should involve removing the existing agent, installing the new one, and if possible removing any existing management groups. So far I've come up with the following:
    Uninstall SCOM Agent:
    %WinDir%\System32\msiexec.exe /x <path>\MOMAgent.msi /qb
    Install SCOM Agent:
    msiexec.exe /i \\path\Directory\MOMAgent.msi /qn /l*v \logs\MOMAgent_install.log USE_SETTINGS_FROM_AD=0 MANAGEMENT_GROUP=<MG_Name> MANAGEMENT_SERVER_DNS=<MSDNSName> ACTIONS_USE_COMPUTER_ACCOUNT=0 ACTIONSUSER=<AccountUser> ACTIONSDOMAIN=<AccountDomain>
    ACTIONSPASSWORD=<AccountPassword>
    Remove Management Group via Script
    http://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/Remove-a-Management-group-336c849a/view/Discussions#content
I'm guessing this wheel has already been invented or maybe there's a better way. So I'm open to ideas or suggestions.
    Any responses appreciated.

Wow! 4 days and no responses, not good Microsoft SCOM Community. So here's a status on this issue.
As stated I have Active Directory Integration configured which means:
I see the OperationsManager container in AD: dev_scom
I see the HealthService SCP and separate OU's for each of my management servers.
I have an ADI security group containing my management servers and scom action account.
I have an Agent security group which will contain servers the scom agent will be deployed via group policy.
I also have an AD LDAP query set to target the SCOM agent group.
    (&(objectCategory=group)(name=DSCOM_ADI))
I finally get the script to install via the following steps:
    Reference:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc754995.aspx
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc770556.aspx
    http://blog.coretech.dk/msk/install-a-scom-2012-agent-silent/
    1. Launch Notepad ++ and enter the following:
    msiexec /i
    \\server.yourdomain.com\opsmgragent\%Processor_Architecture%\MOMAgent.msi USE_SETTINGS_FROM_AD=1 MANAGEMENT_GROUP=DEV_SCOM MANAGEMENT_SERVER_DNS=YourSCOMsrvr1.yourdomain.com ACTIONS_USE_COMPUTER_ACCOUNT=0 USE_MANUALLY_SPECIFIED_SETTINGS=0 ACTIONSUSER=svc_dscom
    ACTIONSDOMAIN=yourdomain ACTIONSPASSWORD=YourPassword! AcceptEndUserLicenseAgreement=1 /qn /l*v c:\scom2012r2mmainstall.log
    2. Save the script to a name of your choice. For me it's installdopsmgragent.cmd. Watch the extensions as you may end up saving it as installdopsmgragent.cmd.txt.
Note: Make note of this steps in the reference articles listed above:
"In the Add a Script dialog box, do the following:
In the Script Name box, type the path to the script, or click Browse to search for the script file in the Netlogon shared folder on the domain controller."
It's been a while since having to use a startup script so it took me a minute to figure this out. "getting too old 'fer this..."
    3. Copy the script to the Netlogon folder which is located in the following directory on my Windows 2012 server: E:\SYSVOL\sysvol\yourdomain.com\scripts
    4. Launch the group policy management console, create a new policy, edit it, and navigate to the following location:
Computer Configuration > Policies > Windows Settings > Scripts (Startup/Shutdown)
    5. Double-click Startup to open the Startup Properties window.
    6. Click Add and browse to the location of the script which you copied to the Netlogon share.
    7. Click OK to close the Startup Properties window.
    8. Close the Group Policy Management Editor.
    9. Link the policy to an OU containing the servers.
    10. Add the SCOM Agent group to the Security Filtering area of the group policy. I also remove Authenticated Users.
Note: make sure you have a few test servers in your Agent security group.
    11. Drop to a command line and run gpupdate /force. You can also use gpupdate /force /sync but you will have to reboot the box you're running this from.
    12. Log into one of the servers you have slated to deploy the agent to, drop to a command line, and run the same gpupdate command.
    13. Follow this with a gpresult /r command to ensure that you see the policy applied in the Computer Settings area.
    14. Reboot the server and you should see the startup script run.
    15. Log into the server and launch the Control Panel.
    16. If all went well you'll see the "Microsoft Monitoring Agent" icon.
    17. Launch Event Viewer, navigate to the Operations Manager events node located under Applications and Services Logs and validate the logs.
    17. If all didn't go well check the error log located, for me, on the C:\scom2012r2mmainstall.log
My issue: I don't see the management info in the Agent properties.
I installed this last night and waited until the next day still no changes. Event logs show the following:
Event ID: 2011 The Health Service did not find any policy in Active Directory
Event ID: 2003 No management groups were started.  This may either be because no management groups are currently configured or a configured management group failed to start.  The Health Service will wait for policy from Active Directory configuring
    a management group to run.
I see the HealthService is Running in Task Manager on this server and of course I don't see anything listed in the Management Groups registry key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\HealthService\Parameters\
I don't want to manually add the management group info. Checking as I may have missed something in one of the switches.
    Any responses appreciated.

  • SCOM 2012 R2 Gateway installation error and no System Center Management server after install

    Hi,
I have installed SCOM 2012 R2 Gateway and I got an error 25372 error at the start of the install. It still installs though. However I have no system center management service running in services but I can see healthservice.exe is running.
Why am I not seeing the system center management service?
    Thanks.

Using gateways with certificates is always a bit complicated because there are several things that needs to be configured correctly.
DNS: The MS and the GW server need to be able to resolve each others FQDN. you can adjust the hosts files if needed.
Traffic is only TCP 5723 from the gateway to the MS. You can test this with the telnet client.
    Certificates:
    http://marthijnvanrheenen.wordpress.com/2012/03/28/scom-2012-connecting-a-gateway-server-using-certificates/
The gateway server should NOT be in pending management. Remove it from here before running the approval.
You should start by making sure DNS and the 5723 port are functioning because that is probably where the problem is.

  • System Center Operations Manager 2012 SDK: Is there a ways to get MonitoringAlerts by ManagementPack?

I have a couple of question on SCOM 2012 SDK usage:
    1. In SCOM 2012 SDK, GetMonitoringAlerts API has various overloads that allow user (client) to filter alerts by properties, management class etc. but I do not find a way to filter the alerts by management pack.
I can achieve it by enumerating classes in a management pack and then querying alerts for each class, but this would result in a lot of calls to management server. I wanted to check if there's a easier way to perform this operation.
    2. I do not see any support for sorting/paging alert data, does the SDK support server side sorting/paging of data?
PS: I could not find SCOM forum, please re-direct to appropriate forum if possible.
    Thanks in advance!

  • Discovery Issues with OnCommand Plug-in 4.1 for SCOM 2012 R2

I have a customer who has a NetApp cluster with FAS8040s running 8.2.1 in cluster-mode. The have SCOM 2012 R2 UR6 and the OnCommand 4.1 SCOM plug-ins. I can do an initial discovery of the cluster and it pulls back the SVM, but no other objects are discovered...no LIFs, no Nodes, no Volumes etc. I've been over the install doc many times and have not found where I might be doing something wrong. I've also searched on the interwebs and found a few suggestions, but none have changed the outcome. I've ensured the overrides are appropriate and to be sure its not a rights thing, I'm using "the" admin account. I see no indication of issues in:- The OnCommand Event Log- The OC.SCOM.logs (even in debug mode)- The SCOM task status Any help would be greatly appriciated.

  • SCOM 2012 R2 missing agents for HP Unix 11.23?

I am trying to discover/install SCOM 2012 R2 agents on HP-Unix systems running 11.23 and later meeting the minimum requirements as outlined in

  • Copy\Paste Views not working in SCOM 2012 R2 console

    Dear Concern,
Hi, I am using SCOM 2012 R2 and i have come across a problem that when i copy a view and try to paste it in same management pack, the paste action is not working. Cut and paste is working fine but copy paste not working. When i copy any view, the paste option
come alive but did not work when i clicked on it.
Has anyone tried and tested it?
    Regards,
    Jazeel Ahmed Siddiqui

    Hi,
I have tested it in my SCOM 2012 SP1 Environment and it worked there from Sealed to Unsealed and Unsealed to Unsealed.
I have no R2 Environment in reach at Moment so i cannot test it there.

  • SCOM 2012 R2 Reporting is down

    Hi All,
Reporting is down in SCOM 2012 R2.
Environment and issue: I have a small management group which consists of two MS and a SQL DB which is clustered. The reporting binaries have been run on node1 of the DB server only and the node 1 only has the follwing registry key :
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\System Center Operations Manager\3.0\Reporting,\ DWDBInstance
Now , all the sql resources are on Node 2 and when i run the report it says :
    Reporting Services Error
An internal error occurred on the report server. See the error log for more details. (rsInternalError) Get
    Online Help
And when i dug into the log it says:
library!ReportServer_0-1!1940!01/18/2015-21:07:03:: e ERROR: Throwing Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.InternalCatalogException: Incorrect security descriptor version, Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.InternalCatalogException:
    An internal error occurred on the report server. See the error log for more details.;
Earlier the following link format use to work but it does not now:
    http://clustername/ReportServer_instancename
I tried to change it to node 2 like below [which does not work]:
    http://node2/ReportServer_instancename
Finally i just tried with node 1 which works just fine via web browser:
    http://node1/ReportServer_instancename
I think switching the sql resources back to node1 will solve the situation, i have already created a ticket to the DB team to look into it.I know that SCOm reporting is not cluster aware and that is how i just ran the reporting server binaries on the first
    node.
Could you help me with the change of reporting server entries in either registry or config files or DB tables which could tell SCOM to look and contact only the node1 for reporting and not the node2.
Any comments would be greatly appreciated as I need to fix this soon else I would not be able to send the monthly SLA reports to my stakeholders as the Service Level Report Library option is not visible via SCOM web portal reporting.

    Hi,
As SQL cluster is not supported for operaion manager reporting(more information, please check

    Hi,
From my point of view, SCOM reporting is to use to get needed reports about service availability, performance and alerts and so on. With those report, we may do data analysis to get more details about the monitored environments.
With management pack imported, there may be many available reports that can be run to get proper information about what monitored by using this management pack.
If there is any misunderstanding, please feel free to let me know.

  • Upgrading SCOM 2012 SP1 agent to SCOM 2012 R2

    Hello All
We have created a new SCOM 2012 R2 environment and now planning to upgrade our agents which are in SCOM 2012 SP1 environment . We want to keep the agents dual homed for some time . I would like to know if there is any kind of automation/script that someone
has already made to upgrade SCOM agent from SP1 to R2 ,and at the same time have it dual homed (pointing to 2 MG)

    You may try
    1) upgrade the SCOM agent by
    msiexec /i MOMAgent.msi /qn /l*v D:\logs\AgentUpgrade.log  AcceptEndUserLicenseAgreement=1
    2) Add additional management group y using following vb script
    Option Explicit
    Dim objMSConfig
    Set objMSConfig = CreateObject("AgentConfigManager.MgmtSvcCfg")
    ‘Add a management group
    Call objMSConfig.AddManagementGroup ("MyManagementGroupToAdd", "company.sm.net",5723)

  • SCOM 2012 SP1 Web Console not filtering "Items by Text Search"

I have the weirdest issue with not one, but two installations of SCOM 2012 (SP1) specific to the Web-based Console.  I have to think that it's something that I've messed up since each installation (separate domains, separate environments) is exhibiting
the exact same behavior and that I cannot find a single mention by anyone else experiencing this problem anywhere on the 'net.
The problem I'm encountering is that when I try to filter the list of objects using the "Look for: Items by text Search" option, the list doesn't filter! It's just the *weirdest* thing!
For example, I go into "Microsoft Windows Server; Performance" and select "Disk Capacity".  The view loads just fine with two panes up top, and the object list down below.  I select a pane to display the list of objects which
gives me all the servers discovered/managed by SCOM.  I changed the "Look for:" drop-down from "All Items" to "Items by Text Search" which makes the text field (to the right) active.  I enter my text string and........
nothing happens.  When I hit "Enter" the pane simply refreshes.  The "Reset" button doesn't become active further reinforcing the fact that something just ain't right.
I have a installation of SCOM 2007 R2 and this feature works flawlessly.
Anyone have any idea as to what I may have missed or what I might do to resolve this issue?  Again, I've found absolutely nothing on the Internet specific to this issue (unless my search criteria is woefully flawed) which suggests that I've messed something
    up.
Thank you in advance for your time!
    -Todd
PS - this feature works just fine in the installed/thick client/console.

Unfortunately, I never did receive an answer to this issue/post, and I never found a solution with this version of SCOM.
I did, however, just test this functionality on the SCOM 2012 R2 installation and discovered that the "Items by text search" filter in the web console *does* work as one would expect.  So, if you're able, upgrade to SCOM 2012 R2 and you should
be much happier with the result.  (I think I'm running Cumulative Update #2, if that helps.)
    Hope this helps!
    -Todd
